REVIEW I LIVE OFF THEM

ENJOY

Mindy wiped away her tears, and held the bag of candy floss to her. Boys sucked. Quite frankly, in her opinion. She was 16 years old, and she had just seen her boyfriend kissing another girl. So she had run away, bought herself a bag of candyfloss, and was eating it by the pier, blinking back tears. Boys sucked. They sucked and she hated them.

"The sun set is particularly beautiful this evening," Came a voice. Mindy tried to swallow her candyfloss, and a few of her tears, listening. A male voice rang out

"Looks the same as yesterday love."

"No," she frowned "It looks particularly beautiful,"

He chuckled "You can say it twice, but it doesn't change my view."

"It's only because you're not paying enough attention to the sunset."

"How can I not pay attention? it's right there! This giant burning ball of gas!"

Mindy stifled a laugh, and she turned slightly, peaking at the couple through her long blonde hair. They were in their late forties, but they were both beautiful. The woman lovely tanned skin, and long dark hair, her hand was intwined with her husband, a tall, pale, blond haired man with blue eyes. "Jerome." She scalded

"Mara." He teased. Mindy smiled to herself. "Remind me why we come here every day? To watch the sun set?"

"Hmm...because sunsets are spectacular things. They're sunsets to us, but sunrises to someone else. Isn't that fantastic?" Mindy laughed under her breath at the blonds expression.

"Ah, you see I thought we were hear because this was where we had our first date."

"You remember?"

"Of course I do, clear as day,"

"What day was our date?"

"A Monday."

Mara burst out laughing, she almost doubled over, and Jerome watched her, a gentle smile on his face "Jerome, we were 16 years old, and I am a huge nerd, are you telling me we came here on a school night?"

"Maybe," Jerome nudged her "I bring out the rebel in you,"

Mindy smiled down at her bag of sugar, and pulled out a bit of pink fluff, leaning back, to watch and see more. "Well I bring out your inner nerd."

"Please," Jerome scoff "There's not one ounce of nerd in this brain," he tapped his head.

"Oh yeah?" Mara challenged.

"Yeah?"

"Fine...then I dare you..." a dangerous look came over her smiling face "To jump in the pier."

Mindy and Jerome blanched. "What?" He cried, in total shock.

Mara laughed "I mean, nerds really worry about stuff, like being embarrassed, and soaking wet without a change of clothes. Hypothermia. All that stuff. But you haven't got 'one ounce of nerd in that brain'," her smile was teasing, but she looked surprised when Jerome stood, shaking out his arms and legs.

"Watch and learn, Jaffray," he laughed, standing on the edge of the pier, ducking under the bars.

"Jerome." Mara warned, Mindy sat on the edge of the bench, eating nervously.

And Jerome jumped.

Mara shrieked, and raced to the side, Mindy stood worriedly, when Mara groaned loudly

"Jerome!" she yelled again, but this time in annoyance. Mindy stepped towards the pier, and looked down, and had to bite back her smile. This Jerome man was holding onto the ladder, he had caught it. He laughed up at Mara

"Master of deceit. But maybe...a tiny little bit of a nerd inside me," he clambered back up easily, and wrapped his arms around her "You were worried about me,"

"Many...a tiny little bit," she smiled, hugging him tighter.

Mindy headed back down to the bench, all traces of tears gone, and she finished her candy floss, watching the rest of the sunset. She watched couple stand, Mara even smiled in her direction, and they walked down the lane. Mindy wanted to follow them, follow their love story and their life, but with a sigh she stayed where she was.

"Want some?" a boy asked, sitting beside her. She turned, as he held out his own bag of candy floss "Yours is almost gone, and that is unacceptable,"

Mindy laughed, taking a small bit "Thank you very much, what's your name?"

"I'm Oliver," he smiled, sitting comfortably beside her "Sorry, I was hiding, my parents are crazy embarrassing."

"Really?" she laughed "Everyone's are."

"Yeah, but my dad just pretended to jump into to pier." She paused, turning to look at him

"They were your parents?" He nodded confused at her happy voice "You are so lucky! They were so in love," he smiled, understanding.

"Everyone says that," he said, looking at the stars appearing. Mindy sighed in content

"The stars are beautiful,"

"Look the same every night,"

Mindy burst out laughing, nudging him, and he smiled at the contact.

He was just like his father.

Maybe all boys didn't suck.
