It`s been so long, hasn't it. Like two months. In that time, my niece was born, one that I watch a lot, my school decided to have at least 2 tests a week, I had State required tests, semester exams, which are still going on, my sister acting up and doing stuff which got her suspended and in trouble by my parents, I`m pretty sure the highest I`m gonna get in geography is a C, and apparently my friend has a horrible love life considering the guy that she was dating was using her to get to one of our other friends, and of course boys just have to be annoying as fuck and bother me everyday at school. Even though, sorry for the inconvenience, but alot was going on and I simply did not have enough time, but since school is ending soon, I will probably have more time during the summer. On with the story, and remember to read and review.
"I… smell… food." Alex groggily woke up, not paying attention to anything but her starving stomach. The boy beside also woke up, noticing the same thing.
"I…do…too." Both suddenly got up in a flash, eyes widening as they look towards each other. They communicated through their faces, and both got off the bed and went towards the door where there were too plates of breakfast and two spoons. They uncertainly glanced at each other, hesitating for a moment.
"It didn't do anything bad to us last time…" Alex said, tempted at the food.
"Maybe he wouldn't put anything in it this time, either?" Dick suggested, though he was already reaching for the plate.
"Yeah. You're probably right." They both grabbed their plates and started eating the food; some waffles, eggs, and orange juice. After they were finished, they sat quietly, not sure of what they were going to do next or what's going to happen next.
"We're going to get out of here." Dick said, suddenly. Alex looked at him. He was looking at the ground, knees pulled towards his chest, arms wrapped around it.
"What do you mean?"
"We're going to have to get out of here sooner or later. My only worry is if it's going to be on our terms or Malvarma's."
"Hopefully it will be on our terms, but what will happen after? Things can't go back to normal after everything." She looked at him worriedly, like she was scared of the possibility of their friendship becoming worse. He grabbed her hand, though he was worried as well. There was no way of knowing what was happening outside, but he knew that at least one person found out her identity. There was no telling how Batman or the others might react.
"I'm not sure of what's going to happen once we get out, but I know that it isn't going to change the fact that you're one of my best friends. As I said before, no matter what happened, no one moment can define who you are. Just like what I said, the moments here won't make me think any less of you." He smiled softly at her.
"Thanks. I really wouldn't know what to do without y -"
Two of the robots came in, and Dick and Alex tensed.
"Richard Grayson, Alexis Jones, you are required to come with us." As soon as the first robot finished his sentence, their cuffs became stuck together behind their backs, flinging their arms behind them. The two complied, being dragged up to their feet and led out of the room. After walking through many, many, white and seemingly endless hallways, they stopped in front of a door. One of the robots opened up its palm, facing it to a circular device on the wall beside the door. Wires that seemed to be alive came out of its hand, attaching it to the device before the door opened. The duo was pushed in, nearly tripping on their feet. The cuffs released their magnetic hold on each other, letting Alex's and Dick's arms free. They looked around the room. It was an enormous dome, and like most of the place, it was sterile white.
"Welcome both of you." A voice they recognized and despised boomed. "You are here to work on your training. After all; can't let you be off your game. This is your first exercise; try to survive it." Suddenly they weren't in the dome anymore; they were in a jungle. There were vines and trees everywhere, puddles and small streams, making it seem more like a rainforest. They patted themselves down, finding their uniforms and weapons on them.
"What's going on?" Phoenix asked, turning to Robin.
"I'm not sure, but I know one thing going to happen; we're gonna have to fight." He looked at her. "Be ready." They stood in defensive positions, disc and batarang in hand. He looked around his surroundings, pausing for a moment, his eyes widening. "I recognize this place."
She looked at him slightly surprised. "Then where are we?"
"Santa Prisca. It's where Ba-" The sudden sound of bullets interrupted him, causing both to immediately climb up into the trees to stay hidden. "The team and I had our first mission here. It's where Bane and his workers do their thing. It's considered his island. If I know anything, it's that Bane's henchmen are in a fight right now. With who, I don't know." They continued to listen for little bit before Robin used his hands to signal something to her. She nodded, and they jumped silently from tree to tree until they were by the battle. She gasped.
"No way."
"That can't be."
"Is that…"
"Yeah," He looked toward her, then back at the battlefield. "I think that's us." They stared toward the darker and more shadowy versions of themselves; all sixteen copies.
Green Arrow, Batman, Superman, Flash, and Martian Manhunter were surveying the scene where it all went down three weeks ago. The first floor was still mostly ashes and charred remains of the objects in it. Green Arrow checked for anything on the top floor, where there were debris and a giant hole in the ceiling where Phoenix and Robin crashed through. Looking through the broken pieces of wall and ceiling, he found spotted something shiny under a broken board. Huh. He picked it up, finding a gold chain with an oval piece about the size of half his fist, marked with an 'R' on it. "I think I found something, Bats." He said into his comm. The Dark Knight came around quickly, and as usual, silently.
"What is it?"
"It's a locket. I think I saw Artemis wearing something like that too."
"They're all friends at school. Phoenix probably gave it to them before they were taken." Batman said, grabbing the chain from Green Arrow's hand.
"I think we should show it to her then, she should know something about it."
"I saw Robin wearing this the day they were captured afterschool. Phoenix might have known something was about to go down that night. This isn't your average kidnapping. It was planned, executed without anything left behind from the kidnapper. He must have been devising this for a while. " Batman looked right into the other hidden billionaire's eyes, and even though GA was wearing a mask along with the Dark Knight, he felt like Bats could see right through it. "With that much thought and preparation, he was obviously determined to have what he wants, but his motive is on a personal level."
"I know that when something hits close to home, you'd be adamant on helping them; or avenging them." Bruce looked at him, and knew what the archer meant. He was referencing to what he did for his parents, and what he also helped do for Dick's family. Batman gave the chain to back to him.
"Give this to Artemis; ask her if she might know anything that will help."
"And what should we do now?"
"Keep searching."
"What do we do?" Phoenix asked Robin.
"Fight." A voice said behind them, and before they knew what happened, they were launched off the tree. They recovered quickly in the air and rolled on the ground, ending in a crouch. They looked back to see on a copy of Phoenix in the branch they were just on. Robin heard a familiar 'woosh' through the air, and reacted instinctively, tackling the pyrokinetic out of harms way as a weapon dug itself into the tree, right where there heads were just 5 seconds ago. A shadow copy of Robin was looking straight at them, a sinister smirk on his face and another birdarang ready in hand. Checking, they saw that everyone with Bane has been either knocked unconscious, killed, or too injured to even move.
"Like our work?" The fake Robin asked. "I wanted to have more blood, but Fraud wouldn't let me." He nodded his toward Phoenix's twin.
"Don't worry. I told you that you can get messy later, Fake." She looked at them with a grin. "For now, let's give these bitches a lesson." Fraud twisted her neck around, cracking noises coming from her bones. Fake did the same with his knuckles, both pouring intimidation from their stance. Robin looked towards Phoenix, and she stared back, communicating with their eyes. They both got up and ran, each going in a different direction.
"A chase! This is gonna be fun. " Fake said, smiling insanely before running after Phoenix's retreating form. Fraud did the same, going after Robin.
Robin ran as fast as he could. He knew what he was capable of doing if he actually did turn bad (thank Batman for that) so he knew that his copy was extremely dangerous. He could hear the footsteps following him get louder and tried to run faster, until he felt a searing pain in his left arm. He hissed and tumbled a little bit, but continued to run. He figured that it was Phoenix's twin following him so he turned and threw a birdarang. Fraud smirked as she dodged it.
"You missed, Bird Boy." She sang. Robin smirked this time.
"You weren't my target. " A tree behind her made a loud cracking sound before it landed on top of her. He cackled and ran away, that was until a large shadow covered him, the smell of burning wood hitting his nose. He looked up to see a burning tree in the air right about to land on him. His eyes widened. "Uh oh." He braced himself for the impact about to come.
Phoenix sent a blast behind her, knocking down a tree hoping to slow down her assailant. She hissed as she felt something slice her cheek, but it didn't affect her as she sprinted. As soon as she started to bolt, Fake came after her, and the chase was on. So far she managed to stay ahead of him, but he was catching up quickly. She felt something sharp dig into her leg and she grunted, stopping to pull out the birdarang when it suddenly burst with cold mist, freezing everything below her right knee. Phoenix fell momentarily, but got back up swiftly. As she turned back around to countinue her run, she was knocked back down with pain blossoming in her jaw. She looked up to see Robin`s dark copy looking viciously down at her, her disc in his hand neear her neck. "Finally. I was just waiting for this moment." He brung his arm back, and she closed her eyes, preparing herself as he swung the weapon down.
