Sorry I haven't updated for a while :/ This is why I don't like writer's block. Oh well, here you go! :)
Just then, Leopardstar burst in.
'Come on! I'm in the medicine cat's den. That's hardly fair...'
'Help me!' moaned the RiverClan leader unexpectedly.
'Help... a badger... ohhh...'
Brambleclaw shouted for Leafpool as she collapsed. 'Midnight got her. I think she's dying!'
Leafpool looked him in the eye. 'Her clan is attacking ours. Is that definitely a BAD thing?'
Brambleclaw stared in horror as his mind tried to process what she was suggesting. 'Yes! IT'S A VERY BAD THING!'
She leant over to help as Brambleclaw stumbled out to see that there were only a few stragglers left in the camp.
It dawned on him that now, when they were retreating, would be a good time to chase them down and look for Mistyfoot. He called for Brackenfur and started walking towards the exit. Or what was left of it. Then he remembered that Brackenfur and Tawneypelt were both with Leafpool after getting injured in the battle. Guiltily, he went into the den and looked inside. 'Can I come in?' he asked Leafpool.
'Yup.'
'How's Brackenfur? And Tawneypelt?'
'Brackenfur's sleeping and Tawneypelt... Well, she...'
'What?' he demanded, suddenly worried. Leafpool looked up at him and, to his shock, he saw that her eyes were brimming. 'What's happened?'
'She... Crowfeather... I don't think she's gonna make it through the night...'
'Isn't there anything you can do?'
He already knew what the answer was. That was the moment when it clicked. 'Wait, Crowfeather? I'll kill him! That DECEITFUL, LYING-'
'No! Don't! Please! He didn't mean to..' Leafpool sobbed.
'D-didn't m-mean to? DIDN'T MEAN TO?! Are you out of your mind?! He nearly got the lot of us killed, then he turned on us, then he DIDN'T MEAN TO?!'
Firestar ran in. 'I heard raised voices. Is everyone ok?' He asked. As Leafpool reassured him, Brambleclaw stalked out. Crowfeather had to be dealt with, and he was heading that way to try and help Mistyfoot anyway...
As he walked out, Squirrelflight appeared beside him. 'Where'ya goin'?'
'Um... Out. Now go away.'
'D'ya want someone to come with you?'
Yes. Brackenfur. Or Sorreltail. Or Tawneypelt. Or Leafpool. NOT you.
'I'm good thanks. Now don't you have something to do?'
'Nope.'
I should've known.
Brambleclaw sighed and went back into the camp and hopped onto a rock.
'I've found out why RiverClan turned against us.' He went straight to the point. 'WindClan have Mistfoot hostage.' There were shocked gasps and murmurs from the crowd but he ploughed on. 'I'm gonna go and try to rescue her. I want someone to come with me. Nobody who's injured; you stay here and see Leafpool. Quick, someone!'
Sorreltail stepped up. 'I'll go.'
'I think you should stay with Brackenfur. You two have had a long day.'
'But I-'
Squirrelflight bounced towards him. 'Can I-'
'Sorreltail, you're with me. Let's go.'
Seeing Squirrelflight's long face, he rolled his eyes and said, 'Squirrelflight, you need to gather some other warriors up and start repairing things around here. If that's ok with Firestar, that is.' he added, suddenly remembering that he wasn't leader- yet.
'Um... where is he?' asked the most annoying cat in the clan.
Brambleclaw stopped in his tracks. 'What?'
'Where's Firestar?' Squirrelflight repeated.
Brambleclaw looked around. No one knew. 'LEAFPOOL!'
The she-cat came running out of the den.
'Have you seen Firestar?'
'No. Why?'
'Oh, fox-dung.'
He gestured to Sorreltail and ran out of the camp...
