Just a few minutes before the wedding…
- Harry -
"Jimmy, are you sure about this?" He asked, keeping up with his friend's pace. Harry had never seen his jovial friend this serious before. "Yes. I am."
Charles, Herbert and Joseph followed them closely. They were called for this 'mission' and they simply couldn't refuse when their pal's happiness was at stake.
A few more turns and they were at the gates of the Barbour manor. Tall, intimidating men in suits stood there. As the officers were about to walk in, the men stopped them. "May we please see your invitations?"
There was absolutely no movement at all for a moment before Herbert rushed forward and tackled one of the men. Harry helped him with the other and the two officers were throwing punches left and right. "Go!" They yelled at the same time.
Jim, Joseph and Charles weren't about to wait another second, as they dashed across the front yard and through the house, making a few of the maids and servants gasp. Another two men stopped them halfway. Joseph and Charles took them on and before he knew it, Jim was all alone.
He mustered all the courage he had and ran into the garden. "STOP THE WEDDING!"
Jim's eyes flew to Elizabeth and his heart fluttered at the sight of her. 'God she was beautiful.' He ignored the sounds of the guests gasping as he walked up the aisle. "I love you Elizabeth, and I'm not about to let him take you away from me!" He grinned when he saw Elizabeth smile through her laced veil.
Before he could say anything else, the initial two men came running in, and so did Herbert and Harry as they continued their fight. The guests were screaming at this rate. They had never really seen a physical brawl before so it shocked most of them.
Gayle, Jude and Albert immediately got to it, ushering the guests back into the house. Elizabeth was about to run into Jim's arms when one of the guards seated near the arch held her back. Jim immediately reacted and ran towards her, however he was stopped by Jasper.
Jasper punched him in the gut mid-run and Jim fell to the ground. "Jim!" Elizabeth yelled out, struggling in vain to get out of the pair of strong arms.
"You think you're so tough huh, sailor?" Jasper kicked him roughly. "Gatecrashing my wedding." He pulled Jim up by the collar, before punching him in the jaw.
"Jasper, stop!" Elizabeth's heart wrenched at the sight of blood trickling out of Jim's mouth. She couldn't count on Harry and Herbert to help either, as they were fully occupied and losing their own fight.
"Sod off you limey bastard!" Jasper was beyond angry now, as he kicked Jim a few more times. By then, Elizabeth had gotten out of the man's grasp by biting on his arm and rushed over to Jim's side. Tears streamed down her cheeks and they were clearly visible since the veil had been pulled away at one point in time, revealing that her make-up was completely smudged. "Jim!" She sobbed.
"You…look…beautiful." He managed to say, smiling a little at her. Jasper pulled her away, encircling his arms around her. "Stay away from her!" He spat. Elizabeth was crying and yelling as Jasper hoisted her up onto his shoulder, nodding to his guards before walking back to the house. All the while, Elizabeth saw them beating up Jim with no mercy at all and she never stopped crying.
Jasper brought her to the kitchen and told all the maids to get out as he set her down on the counter, standing in between her legs. He was silent for a while as he placed his hand on her cheek before slapping her hard on the face.
"We were supposed to get married and live a happy life." He said quietly after a long while. "YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO BE MY WIFE!" He screamed at her. She continued to remain silent.
"Yet, when that arsehole showed up, you couldn't wait to run into his arms!" Jasper was starting to tear up, overwhelmed with emotion. His face was quickly turning red.
"Don't you love me Liz?" His trembling hands caressed her cheek. Elizabeth looked into his green orbs. The look in his eyes reminded her of a frightened puppy and she immediately felt sorry for him, but replied listlessly, and as understanding as one could be. "No."
Jasper looked genuinely hurt as a tear slid down his rosy cheeks. "Jasper, I'm sure that somewhere out there you'll find someone that's more suitable for you than I am. I'm sure that-" She was cut off as Jasper cupped both sides of her cheeks and kissed her passionately.
Elizabeth's eyes widened and she tried to push him away but he just pulled her to him, embracing her tightly. She turned her head to the side to try and scream but it was no use. When one of his hands slid up her skirt, she had had enough and used all her might to bite on his lip, similar to what Clara had done months back to Harry.
Jasper flinched and stepped backwards, creating an opening for Elizabeth, who wasted no time in escaping. Luck was not on her side however, for Jasper grabbed her tightly on the arm.
"HOW DARE YOU!" He yelled in a deranged voice. The sight of him was terribly scary to Elizabeth. Gone was the sweet steward she had met on board the Carpathia.
"If you won't listen to me, I'll have no choice." He grabbed her roughly and shoved her into her room, locking it from the outside before straightening his jacket, wiping his lips and smoothing out his hair, leaving the hallway and ignoring her cries for help.
Elizabeth banged the door hard, calling out for Jasper to return, or anyone for that matter. But no one came. Her breathing got irregular as she slumped down to the floor, crying non-stop. She sobbed for a while, remembering how she had been in this same situation before on the Titanic, being locked into a stateroom by Augustine.
But now, she didn't have Clara with her. She was all alone.
- Augustine -
When the officers had come, she didn't know how to react and followed the crowd back into the manor. Unlike all the other guests who immediately went to the sitting room, she stayed at the window and watched the scene unfolding outside.
She couldn't hold in a cry as she watched Jasper kick Jim over and over again. After all, she still had a heart. Seeing her niece so miserable didn't turn out to be as sweet as she initially thought.
Suddenly, she heard a noise from the back door. She went there and saw two officers who she vaguely recognized being beat up by two of Jasper's men. "Stop this!" The four of them turned to look at her.
"Leave. Now. This is none of your business." The burly men said sternly. "I don't think Mr. Bennett will be too happy to hear that you disobeyed his aunt-in-law." She folded her arms over her chest and said in her most firm voice.
It worked when they left. "Thank you miss…" Charles said, trying to recall who she was. "Augustine. I'm Elizabeth's aunt. Look, I know I've done some unpleasant things before, but I-" she was interrupted.
"Why are you here!" Harry shouted as he, Herbert and Jim arrived. Jim was badly bruised and had both arms slung over his friends' shoulders.
Harry was enraged at the sight of Augustine and left Jim to slap her on the face. Before he had the chance to do so, Charles and Joseph held him back. "Let go guys! Don't you fools know what she did to Liz and Clary?!"
"We know. But hitting a woman is never the solution to anything!" Charles firmly said. "She's trying to speak so let her!" Harry calmed down a little, but his heavy breathing did not subside.
"As I was saying before you so graciously interrupted me, I want to make amends. I-"
"Ha! Like you would ever want to make amends!"
"HARRY!" The four officers yelled, annoyed.
"I have a plan. Listen closely…"
- Elizabeth -
It was almost an hour since Elizabeth had been locked in her room when there was a noise from the other side of the door. The sound of keys unlocking the door.
She leapt to her feet and went up to Augustine. "Let me go." She said with a nasal voice, still recovering from her earlier bout of crying.
"Hush. I have something to discuss with you." Augustine said in a low voice as she closed the door behind her. Already, Elizabeth was formulating a plan on how she was going to push Augustine away and make a run for it.
"I have a plan and I've already talked to your officer friends about it." Augustine took a seat on her bed. "How do I know I can trust you? You've tricked me once before." Elizabeth crossed her arms.
"You're just going to have to trust me. This is the only way."
- Jim -
On the way back, Jim looked out of the window. He had hard time breathing due to the fight earlier and had a hand on his hip. He constantly wondered if Augustine was to be trusted, but was convinced by the fact that this might be the only way for them to be together.
- Elizabeth -
"What about grandpa?" Elizabeth asked, after Augustine told her of the plan. "I'll take care of him. I promise. After all, he is my father whether I like it or not."
"Alright then. Aunt Augustine, I'm putting my trust in you. Please don't make me wrong about this."
