Chapter 15

Early morning came and my slumber was awakened by the sound of familiar voices echoing throughout the hospital room.

"So Himuro-kun, what do you think about my daughter?" A sweet and an extremely familiar voice stretch across my ear. It somehow irritated me… now I'm quite sure who this voice belongs to…

I slowly opened my eyes and I bolted up from the bed to sit up straight. I was greeted by the sight of my parents, wearing ear-to-ear grins, their eyes glimmering with interest and their attention was cast upon the smiling raven-colored hair teenager in front of them. They did not even notice that I'm awake now.

"Well, Mrs. Nishino, all I can say that your daughter is a pretty dignified woman with an outstanding character and physique. She was really brought up well by her parents and I can see why… You both are wonderful people Mr. Mrs. Nishino." He replied to my mother's question with an obviously fake smile on his face.

I was gradually getting annoyed by how "chummy" he can get with my parents. And really? Does he really have to answer in such a submissive way? I bet he is trying to gain their trust… and his tone sounds so fawning, can't my parents notice that? And what happened to my mother's scary side?

"Hahahaha, oh stop it you!" My mother replied with a giggle. "You too are one fine young man yourself... I can see why Kasumi trusts you, isn't that right dear?"

"Hahaha yes, you really are a promising lad. I am really grateful to you for being by my daughter's side." My father chuckled heartily.

(A/N: Hahaha yehey! Himuro gets 1 point! Uhm, no make that 2 points! Since it came from 2 parents! ~(^o^)~)

It was quite obvious that my parents were flattered by Himuro-kun's words but knowing myself, if I were them, I wouldn't have been swayed by such a honey covered statement.

"Hahaha, thank you for such compliment, Mr. and Mrs. Nishino…" Himuro chuckled along with them.

"Oh no, please call me Okaa-san [1] from now on okay? And please call my husband as otou-san [2]. You are very welcomed to call us that." My mother suggested with a wide smile and my father just nodded in agreement. It seems to me that they are really entertained by Himuro-kun… pffftt…

"If you wish, then I am most honored, Okaa-san, Otou-san." Himuro replied. I face palmed myself. I will never get use to this, I am sure.

My parents started chuckling, they are overflowing with entertainment and then Himuro-kun chuckled with them. They then started to rant about weird things, having an enjoyable conversation between themselves while laughing and chuckling an awful lot.

They all looked like chuckling fools now… I'm really getting irritated; the fact that they still did not notice me is unacceptable! I should do something about this…

"*ahem*" I coughed at them to make them notice me but then again, my effort was futile, they just continued on talking.

A tick mark appeared on my temples. Well this is frustrating. I tried to do the same thing again, only louder and clearer this time.

"*ahem**ahem*"

But nothing happened, yet again. My parents' attention was all directed to the point guard of Yosen high. They are so sucked into the conversation that they didn't even notice me.

Hmph! How dare they not notice! I am the injured one not him. Such a good set of parents they really are… pfffftt… I should try once more, before I snap at them.

"*AHEM* *AHEM*"

Yep, just as I expected, nothing happened, well it's about time… I have to relieve myself from anger somehow…

My eyes scanned across the room, finding for the perfect weapon in which I'm going to use… hmmm… let me see… Ah, this is perfect.

I found myself picking up a tool from the drawer beside my bed. Steadily looking at the ranting figures with dead eyes, I raised the apparatus, took my aim, and threw it to their direction with all the strength I have.

"GaahhhH!" My parents shouted as the sharp tool pierce the wall, leaving the wall to crack and chip off at its wake.

Himuro bolted up from his seat and came closer to the weapon to inspect it.

"A S-SYRINGE?!" Himuro stated aloud.

My parents, including Himuro, then looked behind them, from where the syringe came from with scared expressions only to meet with my obscure gaze.

"GOOD MORNING EVERYONE" I smiled like a maniac. Seriously, I am getting the feeling that the scissors wielding psychopath just infected me with that psychotic rabies of his.

"YOUR INJURED DAUGHTER HAS NOW RISEN UP FROM SLUMBER."

Silence engulfed the entire room. Both of my parents were trapped in a death lock, with just my gaze alone. I suppose they were just shocked at how violent I could be, even when I just woke up.

The first one to break from their reverie was Himuro-kun

"Nishino-san! I am so glad you're awake, we were just talking about you…" Himuro-kun immediately approached me and pulled me into a gentle but firm hug. Wait hug. HUG. Whoa, he did not just hug me in front of my parents.

"u-uh… yeah… I can see that"

I gently pushed him away and took a peep at my parents. Luckily, their expressions were still the same; still shocked… Well… right now I'm not sure why their faces were in a shock, maybe because of what I did earlier? Or is it because Himuro hugged me? Maybe "luckily" isn't the right term…

Just then, both my parents snapped out from their horrified expressions, changing to their concerned faces.

"Kasumi! My dear Kasumi, you are finally awake!" My parents then raced towards my bedside and enveloped me into a tight embrace. I hugged back at them and smiled. Himuro-kun stood up and silently grinned at the corner. Well maybe, it is a good thing that Himuro-kun gained my parents trust since they did not freak out at what he did.

"What happened? Why did you end up like this?" My mom frantically asked me as she took a firm hold on my shoulders.

Okay… EXPLAINING. As a child of the Nishino family, this is one of my most hated parts. Especially to my mom. I'm not quite sure if I should tell them what exactly happened, I mean, If I do, it would just create bigger problems, and I wouldn't be surprised if that scissors wielding psychopath would even go to such great lengths as to hurt my parents.

"uh, oh yeah… about that…"

Oh gosh what should I tell them? I really suck at making up stories… I took a big and thick gulp and parted my lips n order to make a reply.

"U-uhm, well… I- uh… I fell down the stairs! Hahaha..ha…ha..ha…." Well, that was awkward. I am pretty sure that sounded pathetic.

"You fell down the stairs…. at the... park? Our park has stairs? Which part?" My mother asked me once again, looking a little bit confused. I forgot, there really aren't any stairs at the parks

"What? Hahaha, of course there a-aren't W-who told you I f-fell on the park? Nobody said something a-about p-parks! He..he..he.." I rebutted with discomfort.

"Well, Himuro-kun told us he saw you at the park…" father answered.

"He did?! Uhhh… well… I- I guess… " I stuttered. I looked at Himuro-kun and looked at him dead in the eyes. He… he told them! Gosh… that was one vital information that I did not know… well now I'm screwed…

"KASUMI…" My mother spoke with a very scary tone. "Why don't you just…TELL US WHAT HAPPENED."

A cold shiver went down to my spine and went back up again, making my whole figure tremble. My mother is such a monster when she is dead serious, and right now, SHE IS DEAD SERIOUS. Dark-purple aura is starting to fume out all over her figure and unto the intense atmosphere of the room.

I took a big gulp yet again, what should I do? I am going to be dead meat soon… that is unless… that's right! I have Himuro-kun! I should let him explain.

I then averted my gaze at the black-haired male in front of me, boring holes unto the teenager, trying to make him get my message. Luckily enough for me, he nodded softly and smiled.

"Excuse me Mrs. Nishino, what your daughter said was probably true since I only saw her near the park's entrance. Perhaps she is just travelling towards the clinic and by chance came across there?" Himuro-kun suggested as he gave my mother a reassuring smile. My mother's expression softens and then looks back at the young male.

"Y-yah! That's exactly true mother! Believe him!" I unexpectedly shouted, my voice went out a little bit desperate than I imagined.

My mother shifted her eyes back to me and asked me another question.

"Okay then… from which stairway did you fall from?"

"S-stairway? Uh… well.."

Which one? If I tell her that I fell from a friend's house then the question is whose? Murasakibara-kun's? Himuro-kun's? Apparently they are the only people who I know well… Ah, my mother would never buy that.

"W-well who said anything about staircases!? Screw stairways, I climbed up a tree!"

I gave myself a very big face palm. A TREE. Why do you do this to yourself Kasumi? And brain, Y U NO WORK WHEN I NEED YOU?

"A… tree?... you climbed a tree?" My mom inquired, giving me yet another look of confusion and disbelief. I anxiously nodded as fast as I can.

"What happened to the stair-"

"Th-there was no stairway from the start! Hahaha, m-my mouth just slipped" I interrupted my mother's statement while scratching the back of my head.

"Uh-huh… So you climbed up a tree… and I presume you fell?" My father was the one who asked this time. His voice was monotonous but nevertheless sounded drop-dead serious. I just nodded quickly, with my tongue-tied.

"Okay with that settled, what about that deep wound on your finger?" My mom joined on the conversation.

"O-oh, well this? This was… uhhh…bitten by a cat! Yes, a cat… ha….ha…..ha…"

AGAIN, with that awkward tone Kasumi… I hate you…

"A cat? Oh my… we should give you a shot of anti-rabies! That is so dangerous!"

"NO!" I unconsciously shouted "N-no, please… no more needles… there is no rabies in the cat I could assure you that!"

"No Kasumi, you have to! It's better be safe than sorry!" My mother insisted.

What should I do now? Get injected with anti-rabies even though I don't have any? That is just absurd! I have to do something about this-

"Okaa-san,-" Himuro entered our petty argument, "It's okay, the cat doesn't have rabies… the cat that bit her was probably mine after all… isn't that right Nishino-san?"

"U-uh yeah! Hahaha that is right!"

Wah, Himuro-kun, you're a lifesaver… I don't know what I'll do now if it weren't for you…

"Okay, but why does your wound doesn't look anything like a cat bite?" My mother decided to interrogate me more. She is staring at me suspiciously, sending yet another set of cold chills down my spine.

"IT IS A CAT BITE! I-I swear! Uh-uhm… the cat bit me at the park—"

"At the park? I thought you weren't in the park during the accident?" My mother cut me short by her scary tone, accompanied with her creepy aura. Darn it, she knows I'm lying…

"Yes but… uh… ahhh…"

"Kasumi… I KNOW YOU'RE LYING"

"I-I…I'M not lying! I- I just…"

"Okaa-san…" Himuro interrupted us yet again. Yes! Go Himuro-un, please explain it for me! Wahahaha! Wait what? No, what is happening to me, I feel so weird… I guess I really got infected by rabies… The rabies of that scissors wielding psychopath that is…

"How about let us leave Nishino-san to rest, yes? It seems that her memory is still hazy… She might not remember everything clearly as of now."

My mother's gaze turned to Himuro-kun for a while and then back at me, narrowing her eyes, intimidating me with her sinister façade. I looked back at her with the most innocent gaze I could muster, silently wishing for her to leave me alone.

Fortunately for us, my mother stopped giving me the icy stare and shifted her gaze towards my father with a sigh.

"Oh okay fine, if Himuro-kun says so then we'll just comply… Your father is getting late for work anyway… We should get going dear…"

My father nodded in agreement and then shifted his eyes towards Himuro-kun.

"Please take care of my daughter Himuro-kun, I leave my trust to you."

"Of course otou-san, I'll do my best." The black-haired teen replied with a slight bow.

Both my parents flashed a smile at him, and said their goodbyes before walking towards the exit. Wait- Why are they leaving me alone with Himuro-kun? Isn't he going to attend school?

But right before they leave my mother turned to me once again.

"Don't think this is over young lady! You are lucky Himuro-kun covered up for you. He even willingly skip his classes today to look after you! You should give me a straight answer when I get back!" She left me a bone-chilling warning before slamming the door shut.

I let out a huge sigh as soon as my parents were out of sight, making my head hang low and my eyes fall upon the white crumpled blanket of the Hospital bed. There was utter silence for a few seconds…

"Nishino-san, why did you lie?" Himuro-kun started, his voice echoing inside my ears.

LIE.

Such a heavy and hurting word. It is not like I wanted to do it anyway… I just don't want them to know… It may hurt them in the process…

"… I am sorry Himuro-kun… I can't tell you for now…" I said without meeting his gaze. I should not tell him too…

He just sighed and sat beside me on my bed. "It's because of Akashi isn't it?"

My eyes widened in shock. How did he know? Was I muttering in my sleep?

"H-how d-did you—"

"It's really obvious, right from the start, when I saw Akashi pass me, I knew that something wasn't right. And then I saw you, injured—"

"And you knew exactly who caused it…" I finished his sentence for him. He just nodded in conformity.

"I guess that there is no hiding it anymore, huh?"

"Yes, I'm afraid that's right, so you better start spilling the beans now..."

It was my turn to nod now. I guess there really isn't helping it. I just have to tell him since he already knows… I just hope I wouldn't cause any trouble for him in the future…

I inhaled a lot of air and heaved a very big sigh. Here goes nothing…

"It all started when—"

"Wait for a moment Nishino-san…"

"Huh?" I replied, what is it now?"

"Someone's knocking at the door…" Himuro answered as he stood up and walked towards the door. Hmmm… I probably didn't hear anything since I was thinking so deeply…

Himuro carefully opened the door and revealed a middle-aged woman, clad in white, wearing a nurse's uniform. She whispered something unto Himuro-kun ears, making Himuro-kun's facial expression to gradually change into annoyance.

After saying everything she has to say, the nurse bowed down and exited the room. Being curious with what the nurse had to say, I naturally asked him what happened.

"What was that all about?"

"Nothing that you should know about…" He replied with a fierce face. I was surprised. What did that nurse say to make him this aggravated?

I think he might have noticed my sudden expression, because his lips was suddenly forced to curve a smile.

"Nishino-san… I have something to take care of… I will be back shortly afterwards. I'm sure that a girl like you can manage on her own right?"

I nodded slowly, not quite getting his statement as to what 'thing' that he should take care of…

"Good, now I should be back soon… take care…" Himuro-kun said swiftly and gracefully exited, but it's as if he was in a hurry… I really wonder why…

Silence once again engulfed the whole room, leaving me wondering all by myself again…Why did this have to happen in the first place… I really hate this…It's all because of that creepy giant. It feels like I really regret ever meeting him. None of this would have happened if it weren't for him…

"*ring* *ring*"

An unexpected sound came from beside me, looking from where the sound came from, I saw the creepy giant's phone vibrating. Almost immediately, I pick it up only to see that it was just a message… FROM AKASHI.

"ATSUSHI…. Remember what I told you last week? Well it seems that I was able to give her the punishment earlier than I expected, since she was asking for it… But don't worry; I didn't do anything fatal…YET. But maybe someday… I will. I decided to play this twisted game of chess with you a little bit longer. But remember this… I will ALWAYS win. So I suggest that the best move you'll do is to give up since it is still early… before I eat all those that surround you, especially your queen, until no one is left. Remember that the queen will still protect the King even though how much you want to protect her. The queen is a righteous character and therefore knows when to protect the king and knows for a fact that the king must always survive even if it meant being eaten… And once the king falls for my trap, it is the end for your precious queen, for she will undoubtedly sacrifice herself.

Decide now or get rotten by own selfish desire.

-Akashi Seijurou"

WHAT THE HELL IS THE MEANING OF THIS? How could he?! My blood is boiling like a kettle right now… Has he have no shame at all?! Such a stick in a mud he truly is! Using chess terms in replace of real characters, how arrogant! It is as if he treats life as a game. WELL! I should teach him the true meaning of reality! Make him lose at his own game… I shall show him…that life … is much, much more complex and difficult than that wretched chess game of his!
