Discovery and Tears

Rin's POV

I worked frantically in the kitchen as my arm circled around while I stirred the batter. I was determined to make this party the best one my friends have attended in their lives. I had made a bunch of cute decorations earlier the night before and now was working hard on sweets and treats for the party. I had been at it since the crack of dawn and the chef actually came in wondering what I was doing. Thankfully, when I told him what I was doing and why he told me a few quick and easy recipes which I was quick to learn.

At last I had finished and slumped back on the couch. "Done." I said with an exasperated sigh before looking at the clock which read six am. "I might as well catch a few more hours of sleep." I decided aloud before standing and heading back to my room.

My alarm went off and I quickly shut it off before getting out of bed again and fixed my hair. I went to my closet and chose a long-sleeved, knee-length brown uniform dress with white cuffs and a white sailor top. (A/N Basically Chi's brown uniform dress from Chobits which I do not own) I slipped on white stockings and slipped on a headband with a big heart with ribbon tails coming from it on the left side before scurrying downstairs to decorate before Luka, Gakupo, Kaito, and Len came down. Sure hope Miku didn't let the cat out of the bag about the party. They should all be in the recording studio or music room at this time so I should be good to get most of the decorations up. I giggled to myself with excitement.

Miku's POV

I knocked on Rin's door but there was no reply. "Rin? . . . Rinny it's me, can I come in? . . . Well I am anyway!" I opened the door and noticed she wasn't around. "Hm, must be decorating for the party, I'll go help her." I was about to turn to go when something on the calendar caught my eye. When I headed over I noticed she had written 'VALENTINE'S DAY PARTY' in big red letters in today's box. I giggled. Silly little girl. For the heck of it I flipped through her calendar to see any other things that might be written. No, it wasn't being rude. I could tell what was personal just by the corner of my eye and would know right away to skip it. However, something caught my eye and I stared at it for a while. One day in particular, in the middle of October, was circled. "What's this?" I wondered before taking down the calendar and sitting on the bed, carefully I began to examine the calendar from the beginning. "What could that circle mean?" Then my eyes widened when I found a sticky note placed in the middle of January: 'Most recent Doctor's app: October 28. Result: — ' I stared at it as I tried to wrap my brain around the meaning behind it as well as the circled day in October, then I took a shaky breath when my eyes widened. "No . . . it . . . can't be . . ." I threw the calendar on the bed and tore out of the room, "Rin!'

I bolted down the stairs, my heart racing. No, please, no . . . those things . . . they can't mean what I think they mean! My long blue pigtails trailed behind me in the wind as I ran down the stairs and I burst open the lounge door, "Rin!"

"Heh?" She said turning to quickly causing her to wobble on the ladder as she finished hanging up the last end of a pink ribbon, "Woah, woah! Ah!" She cried as she fell back.

"Rin!" I gasped and ran over to her to see her clenching her eyes shut as she propped herself up and rubbed her head,

"Owy. Oh, hey, Miku. What's up?" She smiled and I could only stare at her with pain in my eyes and heart,

"Rin . . . is it-"

"-What's this?" Said a voice and we turned to see the others, including Suzuki, Pablo, and Mr. Takahata standing in the doorway.

"Surprise~!" Rin cried standing up and throwing her arms up with a bright smile, "Happy Valentine's Day, everyone~!"

"Valentine's Day?" Luka blinked, "But wasn't that yesterday?" She giggled a little.

"Yeah, well." Rin replied with a feeble smiling as she rubbed the back of her head, "I had this planned out last minute." She giggled and I only watched as pain stabbed my heart. Everyone walked in and admired the decorations.

"Wow, this is amazing, Rin." Gakupo complimented,

"Thank you~! I wanted to make it the best party you guys ever attend~!" Mr. Takahata approached her and pet her head as the other hand was stuffed in his pocket like always,

"And I'm sure it will be, little one."

"Kya~!" Suzuki cried as she suddenly grasped Rin's hands in her own, "Rin, you look absolutely adorable, darling. Can I grab a few shots of you with the decoration?" Rin giggled,

"Sure, I don't mind~!" Suzuki led her off while I stared at everyone as they settled down to compliment the party decorations and mingle. I couldn't bring myself to participate with the discovery I had just made and I bit my lip to keep calm.

"Hey, Miku, sit down. Stay a while." Len smiled as he, Luka, and Gakupo looked at me from their seats on the couch. I swallowed and walked away to 'examine' the decorations where in reality I needed time alone.

A few minutes passed and everyone was having a great time: Luka and Gakupo seemed to have gotten together, because they held hands as they talked and laughed with Len. Kaito was with Mr. Takahata and Pablo while Suzuki was taking pictures of the party scene. "Hey, guys~." Rin smiled as she came out with a tray of delicious looking sweets. "I made these myself with the help of the chef, please help yourselves. I do hope you like them~!"

"Why thank you, Rin." Mr. Takahata said a she took a heart shaped cupcake.

"Yeah, thanks they look delicious!" Suzuki smiled while taking a brownie with rainbow heart sprinkles. Everyone else took one and complimented the blonde petite chef who beamed as her friends took more of her sweets.

"I know these'll be great knowing you made them, Rin." Len smirked at her making her blush slightly with a small smile. I watched the heart-warming scene unfold when suddenly, the tray clanked to the ground, the remaining treats scattered on the ground as Rin began to cough vigorously and hold her throat. Immediately, everyone stopped what they were doing and surrounded her. I couldn't take the scene as the morbid meaning of the calendar came to mind. Bowing my head so my hair hid my face, I quickly left the room, scarcely hearing Rin calming down and ensuring everyone she was fine. Clearly, she's not . . . so why is she lying to everyone!

I stood at the edge of the roof, tears in my tightly shut eyes, while my hands clasped over my mouth. Rin . . . no . . . please no . . .

"There you are." Said a sudden voice making me gasp and whirl around with wide eyes as the wind blew my long hair. There in the doorway was Kaito who slowly came over. "What are you doing here? I saw you leave when Rin had an attack. Everything ok?" I stared at him for a moment then turned my back on him and covered my face with my hands. I refused to have him see me cry, but I heard his footsteps approach me and stop right in front of me. He gently placed his hands on my shoulders making me peek, through the V shapes I made with my long slender fingers and look up at his face which slowly adorned a smile. "What's wrong, Miku?" He asked gently, "You're never sad. What's on your mind?" That's when the dam inside me broke and I buried my face in his chest and clutched at his shirt as I sobbed.

"It's Rin! She has throat cancer!" I could imagine Kaito gasping quietly at my confession. "She tries to hide it and tell everyone everything's ok and she wants to keep singing even if it's going against her father's wishes! Her mother died of the same fate and I understand that's why he's so hard on her but that's beside the point! Wh-when I went to check on her this morning I noticed some things on her calendar! One was a sticky note saying about her recent doctor's appointment and the results . . . She's going to die at the end of this year. . ." I could still imagine Kaito's pained expression as I revealed everything to him. He hugged me close as I cried then he pulled away slightly.

"Miku . . ." I looked up and immediately gasped as my eyes widened when I realized the position I was in: Kaito's lips were against mine and the wind was blowing my hair, wrapping it around us as if saying to have him never let me go. He pulled away and touched his forehead to mine with his eyes closed while tears of sadness continued to stream from my own eyes. "Please, stop crying. There's nothing more painful for me than to see you sad. I don't want you to be sad so please, smile. . . I fell . . . in love with the Miku who always had a bright smile on her face, even in the dark times. She was the light in the darkness. . . She was the light in my darkness. And I never want to lose sight of it. I want to always see that smile because when I do it's like the sun's shining inside of me." He opened his eyes and stared into mine as he cupped my cheek. "I love you, Miku Hatsune. . . With all of my heart and I promise I'll always make sure you're smiling your cares away. . . Whatever you might be fighting, I want to fight it together . . . with you." My eyes were wide as I stared into his beautiful ocean blue ones,

"Oh, Kaito . . ." I then closed my eyes as one more tear escaped them, and kissed him. He placed his hand gently on the back of my head as he pressed his lips against might with slightly more force. I cupped his cheek with one hand and stood on my tippy toes in order to place my other hand on the back of his head to press our lips a little more together. His free hand slide down my sides until it remained on the small of my back. We remained there for a while until we finally broke free for a breath of air before smashing our lips together again, this time our tongues dancing in each other's' mouths. There we stood, making out. At last he confessed . . . and he knows how I feel for him too . . . of all the things that have so recently happened . . . at least this one . . . felt completely right. I have never been so happy, thank you Kaito . . . I'll keep smiling . . . just as Rin does . . . even with her fate approaching . . .

Rin's POV

Len walked me to my room, hand in hand, after the party. "Thank you so much for the party, I had a great time." He smiled and I giggled,

"I'm so glad you enjoyed it~!" He stepped closer to me,

"Especially because you were my sweetheart for Valentine's Day." I smiled with a blush on my cheeks,

"Yeah, well everyone is coupled up now. Gakupo and Luka, pretty sure Kaito went to make his move on Miku when they left, and-"

"Me and you?" He asked with round, blue puppy dog eyes.

"Yes." I smiled sweetly. He smiled and kissed me. I kissed him back and smiled into it, then we pulled away and our foreheads touched leaving us smiling and blushing a little as we stared into each other's eyes.

"Goodnight." He said giving me one last kiss on the head,

"Goodnight." I replied before waving him off and going into my room. I sighed happily then noticed something on the bed in the dark room. Curious, I walked over to it and noticed it was my calendar, only . . . the sticky note I had specifically placed was on the month of October. It seemed as though someone threw it down before darting out and then I knew why . . . Miku . . . I had my head bowed so my hair hide my face . . . I'm sorry for never telling you . . . Then a sole tear escaped as I stood in the dark solitary of my room.

Daaamn dat ending! XD Well there you go KaitoxMiku lovers made that just for you guys! Please comment and I'll see you all next time byeeeee~!
