Tears of a Broken Doll

Rin's POV

I sat up and placed my feet on the ground before getting up, dressed, and looking at the stranger in the mirror. Who was she? She was really scary with her hollow, dark, blue eyes and blank, ghostly white face. Not giving it another thought, as it would already haunt me like my nightmares at the strange black bird, which is always around me for some reason, I walked downstairs stiffly and slowly as I have been for weeks now. My wounds from yesterday's bully attack were mostly healed. My bruises went down and weren't as noticeable and my scratches had healed up. Just another day . . .

Another hellish day had gone by. The same things happened: the murmuring and gossiping and the harassing and beatings, thankfully the physical blows were not as harsh today. I was walking in the hallway when someone grabbed me by the wrist, my head was still facing forward and my bangs hide my face. I knew who it was. "Rin." Father said, "We have to talk."

I stood in front of him, hair hiding my face so no one could see my expression. He had his back turned to me for a moment before looking at me. "Rin, what's the matter?"

"What do you mean, Father." I answered, lifting my head, revealing my dead eyes.

"You know very well what I mean, young lady. Now tell me, why have you been giving me attitude and letting yourself get beaten up?"

"I do not wish to allow myself to get beaten up . . ." My voice was still monotone like a robot. "However, I have not been doing such a thing, Father. I am only being the model student you have always wanted me to be." He slammed his hands on the desk but I did not jump.

"See, there you go!"

"No, you are wrong, Father. I am only telling you the truth."

Mami's POV

I was walking in the hallway, about to report to the principle about the papers I had finished when I heard a slam making me jump. What the heck was that? I soon realized it came from inside the office and I pressed myself to hear the conversation. "No, you are wrong, Father. I am only telling you the truth." Huh? Rin? What was going on?

Rin's POV

I stared him down. "Tell me. Is this not what you wanted of me, Father? You disapproved my passion for music and told me to give it up. Well, I have and this is what I am without it." He stared at me as if he couldn't believe a word I was saying. But why? This was what he wanted me to be. I could tell he had nothing else to say and I bowed, "Excuse me, sir." I turned and left the room.

"Rin! Come back here, Rin! You get back here this instant young lady!"

Mami's POV

I couldn't believe what I had just heard! I quickly retreated around the corner before just before Rin exited the office and turned right down the hall. A moment later her father ran out and I watched in utter shock at the unfolding scene.

Rin's POV

I was still walking down the hall when Father was calling after me. Even so, I did not pay any heed or turn around. I just kept walking with my bag held in front of me. "Rin!" He grabbed my arm tightly making me stop in my tracks. "You listen to me when I'm talking to you!" I glared at him with my dark eyes.

"Don't touch me." I growled and round house kicked him in the stomach sending him flying.

Mami's POV

I gasped when I saw her kick the principle and immediately ran to his side as he was unconscious against the wall covered in tall windows. "Principle Kagamine!" I stared after his daughter with wide eyes then narrowed them in utter distain. Why the hell did I have a change in heart . . . she's such a bitch! Going off kicking her father! He just wants what's best for her and she treats him like this! Ugh how could I have even felt the slightest sympathy for her!

Rin's POV

I walked away, my dead eyes revealing total anger for once.

Hours had passed and I was sleeping in my bed. I walked home, refusing to get in the car with him. I was sleeping soundly when suddenly a piano key striking played in my head making me gasp and spring forward, eyes wide, and panting heavily. I placed a hand over my eye. Wh-what the heck? Wh-what was that? An image of a girl with long teal hair appeared quickly making me panic even more. Wh-what? I-I thought that girl was a dream! Wh-what's going on! I squeezed my eyes shut. Who is she?!

"Oh, she isn't a dream, Rin." I gasped at the mysterious voice and looked to my right with wide fearful eyes to see a black feather in my doorway. I got to my feet, walked over, and picked it up. "She's certainly not a dream at all. Not a dream. Not a dream." The strange voice was whispering and I stood to see another feather further down the hall. I walked over and picked it to find a trail of them, as well as the voice repeating it's strange words. I had fallen into a trance basically at this point, a cluster of black feather in my left hand as I walked up the stairs to the roof of my mansion of a house. Finally, I had made it to the top and opened the door to bask under the endless midnight blue sky. I stepped onto the concrete roof and looked around when I saw another feather just near the edge of the roof, and then I heard a call and looked up to see the very black bird that had been lingering around me for so long. "She isn't a dream, oh no, oh no. I can show you where she is if you want." I stepped closer.

"She's . . . not a dream . . ."

"Oh no, oh no and neither are the others."

"Others . . .?"

"Yes, others. The blonde one, the bluenette, samurai, and the fish lady, they're all real, Rin. Would you like me to show you were they are?" I nodded absently. "Then come here." I hesitated for a moment then went to the very edge of the roof. "That's a good girl, now look down at the pond below." I did so to see the bright full moon reflecting on the surface of the water in my front yard. "Do you see your friends? Close your eyes for a moment and imagine them. Do you remember what they look like, Rin?" I closed my eyes and imagined everyone then opened my eyes to see them smiling at me from the moon after a moment.

"Rin-chan!" The blonde smiled while the pink-haired lady smiled with outstretched arms,

"Rin, we miss you so much!"

"I miss sharing ice cream with you!" The bluenette added.

"And I miss showing my katana skills to you!" The purple-haired man commented then the long-haired tealette spoke up,

"Rin-chan, come to us~! We want to sing with you again~!" Tears trickled down my face.

"Miku . . . Len . . . Kaito . . . Gakupo . . . Luka-chan . . . Everyone . . . I've missed you. I've missed you all so much!"

"Hurry, then and join us!" Miku called cupping her hands to her mouth while everyone waved.

"I will, I will, I'm coming!"

Mr. Kagamine's POV

"Damn." I grumbled as I continued to ice my sore stomach. Her kicking me was the very last thing I expected, I didn't even know she was strong enough to throw me. I sighed and leaned back on my chair as I listened to the radio.

"Alright, now here's a blast from the past! You all know and love her and here's her very first song ever released! Here's Rin Kagamine with Dolls." My eyes shot open and I lurched forward, soon regretting it terribly.

"What!" I grabbed the radio and placed my hand on the off switch. "I don't dare want to hear such fowl-" I stopped what I was doing when I heard Rin start to sing. I completely froze.

Rin's POV

I continued to reach for my friends and my heart began to break when their backs turned against me. "See you later, Rin." Miku smiled and slowly they began to walk away.

"No! No! Miku! Luka! Gakupo! Kaito! Len!" Len was last and he smiled at me,

"Goodbye, Rin." With that he disappeared too.

"No! Len!" I began to cry when I saw they were gone.

"You can still go to them, Rin. Are you ready to go to their world?" I brought my hands to my heart and nodded. "Then, come." Said the voice and I began to lift my foot when I gasped at a familiar piano tune being played. Why did it sound so familiar? Then a familiar voice began to sing. It was my voice. The sparkle had returned to my eyes and I began to cry and bring my hands over my mouth as I squeezed my eyes shut. The feathers I had held onto flew away in the wind. This was the very first song I had released. It's what officially brought me into the world of Vocaloid. The world where my happiness was laid to rest at the time. How could I have been so dumb? I had nearly taken my life because of not being able to do what I wanted to do: sing. I calmed down a little but tears still streamed down my face, I brought my hands over my heart, raised my head to look at the sky and began to sing.

"This town of night is lit by a light. The sound of a creaking gear and a wheel, it echoed as I walked I don't even have an address to go to and I'm not able to walk well."

Mr. Kagamine's POV

I sat in awe as the song continued, and then something caught my attention: a black feather had flown onto my lap. I took it and stood. "Where did this come from?" then I gasped, "Wait, this could only mean!" I ran out of my living room and up the stairs to see Rin's figure on the edge of the roof. "Rin!" Then I stopped when I heard a voice: her voice. Her singing. It was the first time I had ever heard her sing . . . Forgive me, Rin . . . Tears streamed down my face but I was too into hearing her song to really notice.

Rin's POV

"Why must I have been born? Why is my heart the color of silver?

In distant old days, that person spoke to me "You are a special doll" dancing and singing as he praised me, even I sing, always. He will not awake his and also sing.

Why must I have been born? I'll only continue singing for eternity.

Someday I'll sleep, and go to the wonderful place where that person is. My wish does not come true, I sing, live, and break alone.

Time passes and I even forget songs. I hurry to the place where that person sleeps while I drag my cracked body I fall down many times.

The place where you're able to see the sea is attached with flowers. Now, I'll go to sleep together with that person.

My wish come true "it was enough that you lived alone" I heard that person's voice, it was close by.

In my dreams, I heard the voice many times. It resounds kindly in my heart. A peaceful light envelopes me and I smile." Tears streamed down my face as I smiled brightly to the sky, "I smile!" I stared up at the starry sky with tears in my eyes but not escaping them.

"Rin." I hear and gasp when I turn I see Father staring at me and I was surprised when I saw the expression on his face.

"F-Father!" I gasped, "Please, let me sing! Please!"

Mr. Kagamine's POV

I stared at her and suddenly she was replaced with another girl. She had very long blonde hair and the same watery, pleading, blue eyes. Lilly. . . I smiled to myself. I promise I'll protect our daughter, like I always have . . . but I'll protect her dream even more so.

Rin's POV

He wasn't saying anything which made me cry more, "Please, Father! If I only have a few months left to live I want to live it doing what I love more than anything! I want to sing! I understand you disapprove in regards for my health but don't you think my happiness is just as important to you? I understand you're scared of losing me because of my cancer . . . you're terrified because it's the same way mother died . . . trust me, I'm just as scared, maybe even more, but it's how I want to live the rest of my life. I want to warm other's hearts with music just as it has done to me. So please, Father . . ." I looked him dead in the eyes, "Please let me sing!" He was silent for a while as I stood there crying like the little girl I still was deep inside. I always had been that terrified little girl and I always will be. He smiled,

"I will, Rin." I gasped,

"Eh?"

"I'll let you sing. I was such a fool for hearing you sing now for the very first time. God really did grant Lilly and I a miracle: an angel with such a musical voice. You deserve to sing your heart out every day, Rin, especially to those you want to touch." He smiled warmer, "And one of those people was certainly me." I couldn't believe what I was hearing; he extended a hand to me. "Now, come down from there please, Rin. It's dangerous!" I couldn't even fight the huge happy tears that rolled down my cheeks,

"Fa . . . ther . . ." I reached for his hand but the black bird above let out a shrill cry before flapping away, then a giant gale swept over the ground and blew me back. I gasped and my eyes widened as I fell backwards.

"Rin!" A hand then grabbed tightly around my wrist and I looked up to see Father on his stomach holding on tightly to me. "Hold on!" There was a hundred foot drop below me as he slowly pulled me up. Finally he did and he showed me onto the safety of the roof before engulfing me in a tight embrace. I hugged back tight, clutching at his office suit and crying into him as he played one hand on my head and the other on my back, pressing me into him. Then I felt another presence and could catch a the glimpse of long, golden, shinning hair drifting in an invisible, unfelt, breeze as it drifted around us. This presence hugged my other side tightly and more tears streamed down. Mother . . . Without even needing to see her I could tell she had the brightest smile on her face. A peaceful light envelopes me and I smile . . . I smile.
