Chapter Four

A queen, had she heard right?

Bonnie, her best friend since kindergarten who didn't even want to be the line leader; that Bonnie was a queen? And to top it off, she was the Queen of New Orleans; the city were magic and bourbon mixed and the streets were crawling with vampires and humans? Had Bonnie gone insane over the last five years? She hated vampires and yet here she was, staring them down like a queen would her subjects.

Elena watched as Bonnie laced her fingers with the man, Adrian's, and both began to whisper an incantation. Latin. The silence that followed seemed to be a good sign. Or it would have been if Elena did not know that what magic did. Moments later, the windows blew open and flames flared to life in the middle of the floor, creating a circle around the two witches.

"Wow," Damon muttered. "A fire show."

The fires died and Klaus stepped forward, waving towards the couple with a smile. "Ladies and Gentlemen, your king and queen."

The witches and humans applauded while the vampires bowed. The girl who had been flirting with Stefan walked up towards them with the boy who had been with Adrian. Klaus moved aside as they joined Bonnie and her husband. She would have to talk to her friend about her choice in men.

"And of course, the Princess and Prince of New Orleans, Mischa Ozera and her younger brother, Kit Ozera." Klaus introduced. Stefan arched an eyebrow in interest while Elena rolled her own.

A princess flirting with her ex? The girl had no class, Elena thought.

"You know you'll get wrinkles that way." Caroline told her with a snarky tone. She didn't like that. She didn't like how Caroline had tossed aside their friendship because she was now dating Damon. She didn't like that she seemed to hold Bonnie in high esteem when the witch had left them because Damon had turned her mom to save her life.

Some sacrifices had to be made. Yes Elena felt horrible that it was all of her fault, but Bonnie would forgive her. She always did.

That was a true friend.

"She could have told me," Elena said.

"Told you? I highly doubt you would have gotten off your high horse long enough to see that she was done with you." Caroline said, her eyes narrowed as she looked at the brunette. "Bonnie left because your stupid boyfriend murdered her mom and turned her into a vampire so that you could live. He would have killed Bonnie the very first time when she destroyed the amulet if it wasn't for the fact he still needed to find Katherine. With Damon walking around, it would only be a matter of time that she could have died."

Elena stared at him. "He wouldn't do that,"

"Oh really?" an accented voice asked. Elena turned to see Kol staring at her with a look that told her what he though. She was beneath him, not worth even his breathing space. "Because the last time I checked, the world did not revolve around Elena Gilbert. So much death and heartache has come from your feeble existent. It amazes that Damon Salvatore seems to love you. I'd say he's more drawn to your appearance: a spitting image of the woman who destroyed him and he can craft into the image he wanted."

"Kol stop being a meanie head."

Elena turned to see Mischa frowning as him with her hands on her hips. Kit stood next to her and he was flustered as he stared at Kol.

"I'm sorry darling, but she's an annoying Mary Sue." Kol expressed as the two siblings walked up to them. He smiled in Kit's direction and the flustered boy turned a lovely shade of red. "Hello Kit."

He waved.

Mischa sighed, "I can't argue with you there," she muttered. "But still, at least pretend to be nice to her, okay? Bon-Bons actually cares about her."

"Something I will never understand."

"Nor will I," Mischa sighed and watched as the king and queen made their way over to her and the group. She curtsied to them in greeting. "My Lord and My Lady."

"Princess," they greeted in unison.

"You look lovely little sister," Adrian said with a smile. He turned to the group of people. "It's a pleasure to meet you all."

Damon snorted. "Yeah, yeah, just hand over Bonnie and we'll be leaving."

Bonnie frowned. "And why would I be leaving with you?"

"Did you not hear me witchy? Your little vacation is over. Your job as resident witch of Mystic Falls is still open for you." Damon snapped. Adrian frowned softly as he walked up to him. "And what are you going to do Romeo?"

"I am going to do nothing but give you some advice," Adrian said and smiled. "Speak politely to an enraged dragon."

"What?" Damon asked.

Adrian said nothing to him but wrapped his arm around his wife, kissing her neck. "Hurt him slowly, my Queen."

Bonnie answered him with a smile before turning to Damon. "I will say this only once," she began. "I am done with you and your disrespect for witches. I am done being used as a doormat. I am done with being used because Elena can not get off her ass and do something for herself. I will not be mistreated ever again. And take my husband's advice because the next time you mistreat me or anyone in my family, I will end you."

Damon snorted. "Oh really?"

Mischa smirked. "Oh please push her buttons. I've been waiting for her to use her magic on you."

"Mischa," Adrian said in a firm tone. He wrapped his arms around Bonnie's waist, pulling her into him. "I want you to make him suffer, but not tonight."

She nodded. "Of course," she said and turn turned her attention onto her father. "Hi dad."

Rudy stepped forward and Bonnie removed herself from Adrian's embrace to watch his wife hug her father. "I've missed you sweetheart."

"I missed you too," Bonnie said. She turned to all her friends. "Come you all, let's celebrate."
