Hello!
First of all I have to apologise for not updating in a LONG time. I've been busy with school, I'm still kind of am but I'll try my best to update Big Girls at least one per month.
Second, I found a beta! Actually, the beta found me. Either way, thank you lostandalone2011 for your awesome job :)
Regarding one of the guest's reviews. Emma and Mary Margaret are definitely not grown women, at least not mentally :P. But I'll disagree with you, jealousy is not only because someone is with the person you love, jealousy is an emotion that happens when we have negative thoughts and feelings of insecurity and fear over a loss of something of great personal value (I kinda copied that from Wikipedia,). It can be seen in siblings, when a brother starts dating someone the sister gets jealous, is not because the sister is in love, it's because she feels she'll be replaced. Same happens, to some extend, to childhood best friends who are still best friends through all their lives.
That was a huge authors note, I'm sorry, I just like setting things clear for the readers, if you guys have any questions, let me know and I'll do my best to answer but please do it as a logged account so I don't have to put a long explanation before each chapter. I don't mind if it's in a negative or positive context, I won't get mad. I just this big paragraphs before the actual story :)
Other than that, thanks for reading, reviewing, commenting, favoriting, etc. I love you all,
M.
P.S: I did a time jump. We are in may now.
"Hey," I said walking into the room, "Today is our annual Blanchard/Nolan Harry Potter movie -" I stopped talking when I realised what she was wearing, "and you are going out..." I pointed out.
"Yeah, I'm going out with Rubes,"
"But, today is the 2nd of May; it's Harry Potter International Day,"
"Oh, that's tonight?" She pretended not to know. "You can do the Harry Potter marathon with your new favourite Nolan,"
There it was; I had waited four months for this conversation. Things between Emma and me had been as normal as things between two friends who pretend nothing awkward is going on can be. We smiled at each other's ideas, and supported them completely. No matter how stupid the idea actually was, we agreed with each other. We did everything to avoid a fight; a fight that had been brewing itself since the first night I didn't come home.
"What is this about?" I asked.
Emma shook her head. "Nothing," she replied as if it was not important.
"Emma," she looked at my reflection in the mirror, "What?" I asked again.
"You know," Emma said putting on her lipstick, "You and my brother,"
"That doesn't mean I don't want to do stuff with you," I replied.
She fixed her make-up, getting rid of the excess colour she accidentally applied outside her lips. "Oh, really?"
"Yes," I replied trying to remain calmed. "Maybe you didn't realise but I make plans for Ruby, Belle, you and me pretty much every week and you always cancel on us,"
"Like when?"
I could enumerate so many times, but I decided to go with the most important ones. "Belle's birthday," I reminded her. Emma had not been for our friend's birthday party.
"Regina had an emergency with her propaganda that night," she countered.
"Ruby's promotion from waitress to manager," I continued with the list. Ruby had always wanted to be more than a waitress, and when Granny finally agreed to it, we decided to throw a party; of course Emma wasn't able to make it.
"We had a meeting with Gold, I told you," Emma retorted.
I shook my head; not believing what I was hearing. I decided to go on with the list of unattended events, "The Hobbit premier,"
"I had to wake up early next day!" She protested while she put her earrings on, "And who has a premier on a Wednesday?!"
"Maybe, you've been so busy planning Regina's campaign that you haven't realised how many times we invited you and you left us hanging,"
"What is that supposed to mean?"
"That you are no better than I," I snapped.
Emma didn't reply, which was unlike her. She was always like dynamite; once sparked, it exploded, no matter what. The blonde sat on her bed and stared at the other earring she had yet to put on. I walked towards her bed and sat next to her.
"You don't understand," she said after a while, "I distanced myself from you because I was ashamed of feeling what I feel,"
"Emma, you've been my best friend since I can remember," I placed my hand over hers, "I'm sure we can work through whatever it is you are feeling,"
She stared at our hands for a while before talking again, "That first day when you didn't come home, I really thought something bad had happened," Emma said, "Regina told me that obviously you had slept with David and that I shouldn't worry," the blonde continued, "Then when you came home, so carefree, I realised I actually didn't have to worry; you were with David,"
I tilted my head, not sure what she meant with this explanation.
"Then a thought hit me. If you were with David, and David was with you, neither of you really needed me." Emma looked at me with teary eyes. I pursed my lips.
"I was angry at you both, and I was angry at myself for feeling like that," she admitted, "You deserve someone like David, and you have always been in love with him," my friend added, "So I decided to walk away,"
I squished her hand, "Why didn't you tell me this before?" I asked, "Emma, I would never leave you alone. And I know David wouldn't either."
"Yeah, now..." Emma said in a sad tone, "But when you have kids -"
"You'll be the greatest aunt on earth," I interrupted her.
She smiled shyly. "You think so?" I nodded,
"Just, please don't give marihuana or alcohol to my kids." We both laughed. "Now, go. Ruby must be thinking you forgot about her," I told her, "again," I added.
"Hey!" Emma protested and stood up to check her outfit and make-up one more time. "You want me to stay here for the Harry Potter marathon?"
I shook my head. "We have a lot more years ahead of us to do that," I stood up and hugged her, "I'm glad we talked,"
"I'm glad too," she replied hugging me tightly. It was the first real hug we shared in a long time. When she finally let go, she waved goodbye and wandered off.
I sat on the bed again, trying to process the new information. So Emma was not mad at me for dating her brother, she was just afraid of being left alone, which was totally understandable since her whole life she had been left alone. Her parents were always absent, she was raised by a number of nannies, and then David left for college while she was still a kid. I always had her back, as she had mine. And David was her brother; he may have not been a part of her everyday life, but he was still an important part of her life. The mere thought of David and I drifting away from her must have caused her a great deal of pain. Even if Emma loved pretending she was tough, sometimes she was still an insecure girl that didn't want to be left alone.
I felt my phone vibrating next to me, and without checking the caller ID I answered,
"Hey!" I recognised David's voice, "How are my two favourite girls?"
"I'm sitting at home and Emma's out," I replied.
"Is everything alright between the two of you?" he asked. I had spoken to him about this topic, but I made him promise he wouldn't interfere in it.
"Yeah. We talked about our problem,"
"So?"
"Everything is fine," I didn't want to go into details. Whatever Emma told me always stayed between us.
"Then why isn't she with you?" he sounded concerned.
"She already made plans with Ruby," I replied, "But everything is alright, really,"
"Ok," I heard him say, not really convinced. "Do you want to come over, then?" David asked. "I just bought the House of Cards on Netflix,"
We had talked about watching the series ever since we saw the trailer a couple of weeks ago, but we had been busy; especially me with my college assignments. "Sure," I agreed, smiling to the ceiling, "I'll be there in ten."
