Note: Let's see … started volunteer work & boxing again, worked weird hours and fell asleep at 7:30, took a week off and did nothing, read a book at the last minute for book club, bought a car. That's where I've been. And then on Thursday night, I dreamed that I wrote a story, and then didn't remember a word when I woke up. This is not that story.

What if: Booth didn't break up with Cam?

AU? Yes

Her mattress consistently receives incredibly good reviews, and her Egyptian cotton sheets are the best money can buy. The blinds on the windows let no light into the room, and the white noise machine blocks the sound from the street outside.

Rationally speaking, she should have no trouble sleeping.

Sometimes she hates that not everything is rational.

Sully spent the night at his place – he needed time to pack, and she is woefully behind on her book – but they're meeting for breakfast, and she knows she needs to give him an answer.

He loves her, and she … cares a great deal for him. Is it love? Certainly, she'd be sad if he died, worried if he were injured. She feels a suitable rush of endorphins when she sees him, and sexual intercourse with him is very satisfying.

Is that love?

Normally, this is the kind of thing she'd ask Booth, but he's busy with his suddenly-serious relationship. He has devoted the last couple of months to caring for Cam during her recovery, taking her to lunch after she returned to work, planning romantic weekend getaways.`Cam came very close to death, and Booth seems committed to making sure she knows how much he cares about her.

After Sully asked her to go away with him, Brennan took advantage of a slight lull in the case to ask Booth what she should do, and he'd told her to go.

Is that because he knows she is in love with Sully, or just because their partnership has run its course?

Or is it because he blames her for Cam's injury? After all, she is the one Epps was after. Cam was just … collateral damage. Maybe he thought that it is her fault, that the people he loves will be safer without her around.

She rolls over, plumping her pillows in an attempt to get comfortable.

She is the most respected forensic anthropologist in the world – surely the Jeffersonian will hold her job for her. And although there will doubtless be days where they will be miles from land, a satellite internet connection will allow her to stay in touch with the advances in her field, maybe even consult on a project or two.

It will be a glimpse into another way of life, and her apartment, her job, her life will be waiting for her when she gets back.

Of course, she'll miss things. Zach is working on an important paper – she'd like to be there when it is published.

And Angela and Hodgins are becoming closer and closer – maybe they'll decide to move in together while she is gone, maybe even get married.

And Booth and Cam ….

She sits up and turns on the bedside lamp, picking up the notepad and pen from the nightstand.

There's a lot she needs to do before she leaves.

I still love Sully. He was a fantastic plot device.
