"Son, we need to talk."
Stiles pushed up his glasses – they were not hipster glasses thank you very much Lydia – and looked up to see his dad standing in front of the table he had claimed as his. He deserved it after frequenting the bakery for as long as he has. He was a little surprised at his dad's abrupt appearance. He hadn't even known his dad knew where the bakery was, but he was the Sheriff. He had ways of finding stuff out.
"Okay… About what?" He was getting kind of anxious, his dad was a lot more fidgety than usual.
Papa Stilinski sat down and took a deep breath, "You know I love your mother very much right?"
"Yeah…" Stiles said, really nervous now"Why?"
"Well it's been a while since her passing, and I was thinking…" his dad started.
"That's never good," Stiles quipped, trying to loosen the tension that had surrounded the table.
"Shut up," his dad deadpanned. "Anyway, like I was saying, it's been about six years since her passing."
"Since she died, Dad," Stiles interrupted again. "Stop saying 'since her passing.' It makes it sound like she passed her driving test or something."
"Sorry, okay, it's been six years since… since she died," he stuttered, "and I was thinking it was time for me to get back out there."
Stiles started at his father blankly. "Back out where?" His father just stared at him, wondering how his son, who could be so bright at times, could honestly be so stupid. He mentally sighed when he saw realization finally hit Stiles. "You mean like date?"
"Yes, Stiles, I mean 'like date.' What did you think I meant?" the Sheriff asked.
"I don't know, thought you meant like out to the gym or something." Stiles squawked indignantly when his father reached over the table and Gibbs slapped Stiles on the back of the head. "Kidding kidding, geez, can anyone take a joke? Anyway, do you have anyone in mind that you want to 'get back out there' with?" Stiles asked, only slightly mocking.
"Well…"
"What about Lydia's mom?"
"Actually…"
"No, you guys would never work out…"
"Sti…"
"Oh, how about Ms. Montgomery? She's recently divorced you know." Stiles continued, completely ignoring his dad, and while the Sherriff was relieved that Stiles seemed okay with his announcement, he was tired of not being able to get a word in edgewise.
"STILES!" he finally yelled when Stiles continued to ramble on.
"What?"
"I've actually already started dating someone." His father admitted.
"Oh… Who? For how long? Why didn't you tell me before? Do you really like her? Is it a her? I won't judge you know," Stiles started rambling again.
"Stiles! Slow down. Okay, we've been dating for a few months. I wanted to tell you earlier, but then the whole Nogitsune thing happened and when it was all over I just wanted to give everything time to calm down. And yes, I do really like her, and yes, it is a her." His father answered, purposely ignoring Stiles' first question.
"Okay…" Stiles said slowly, processing all of the new information. "So, who is it? Do I know her?"
"Yes, you know her. Very well actually."
"Are you going to tell me who it is anytime soon? Or are you going to wait another few months?" Stiles joked.
"Well… It's…"
"Spit it out, Pops."
"It's mphhhh," he mumbled.
"Can we try that again in English?" Stiles joked.
"It's Melissa McCall," his dad finally got out.
Stiles sat there stunned, but slowly a wide smile started to make its way on his face. "This is great! You guys will be great together! How did it start?"
Shocked that his son was taking the news of his father dating his best friend's mom so calmly, it took a moment for him to answer. "Uhh, well we started to go to lunch a couple times a week after the whole sacrifice thing, and she would help catch me up on the whole supernatural side of Beacon Hills. Slowly one thing led to another, and friendly lunches started to turn into something more, and well, that's pretty much how it started." His father rambled, like father like son.
"Well, I'm glad this whole supernatural thing did someone some good," Stiles told him, smile never leaving his face.
"So you are ok with this?" He asked his son.
"Dad, the both of you deserve this and so much more. Like you said, mom died six years ago, and she would have wanted you to be happy. The fact that it is with one of her best friends would have made her even happier," Stiles told his father as honestly and sincerely as possible.
"You're right, and thank you for understanding and taking this so well." He looked down at his watch. "Well I have to go, my shift starts soon. I won't be home until tomorrow morning. I left money on the counter at home if you want to order pizza or something." With that, he got up and gave Stiles a hug.
"See ya dad, love you."
"Love you too. See you tomorrow."
As soon as his father was out of the bakery, Stiles got out his phone and dialed Scott. "You owe me ten bucks," he said as soon as his friend picked up.
"He told you?" Scott whined.
"Yup, just now at the bakery. He was all nervous and stuff, honestly thought we didn't know. Was kinda cute actually." Stiles laughed.
"Technically you didn't know, not until I told you." Scott laughed at him.
"I had an idea, you just got the conformation first because of your stupid werewolf senses." Stiles complained, honestly, he was going to get an inferiority complex if he continued to only hangout with supernatural creatures, to which Scott just laughed again. "But anyway, that is completely beside the point. The point is I won the bet. My dad told me before your mom so you owe me ten bucks." Stiles said dramatically.
"Whatever, I'll pay you tonight. Wanna hangout?" Scott asked.
"Sure, my dad left pizza money, so just come over whenever."
"Okay, I'll probably be over around six. I work at Deaton's today."
"Ooo, the joyously mysterious vet, have fun!" Stiles could almost hear Scott roll his eyes at Stiles dramatics. "I'll see you later, buddy." After hanging up, he stared at the table just thinking until someone sitting down across from him startled him out of his thoughts. Looking up, he saw Derek staring at him.
"Yes?" He asked tall, dark, and brooding.
"So how do you really feel about your dad dating again?" He asked Stiles.
"I'll have you know that I am perfectly happy for him thank you very much," Stiles responded indignantly. Derek just smirked knowingly. "O shut it, Miguel."
Soo… Another one! It's been crazy lately with work and all, but I finally managed to write another one! So timeline wise, I'm thinking this one is set just a little bit before the start of season 4, but also it pretty much just ignores season 4 because well… Derek didn't exactly go missing… Speaking of which! Did you see the new episode on Moonday?! Holy Crap! This season looks awesome! O, and this is dedicated to EpicPickleNinja solely on the bases that I am still too lazy to find someone else… and she edits for me… Anyway! Hope you enjoy and you are all looking fantastic today!
