Prompt: Effie finds a condom that's not hers and she acts all jealous because she thinks Haymitch has someone.
Tour day. As much as Effie Trinket loved the glamour and glitz of it all, she dreaded getting everything and everyone organised; even though it was her forte. Especially, Haymitch Abernathy.
The train slowly creaked into the station, the ice tracks shone in the dull sunlight which district 12 received. She stepped out and instantly felt the frost hack against her bare legs. She instantaneously thought of one of her mother's favourite sayings; 'fashion requires sacrifice'. Effie found it could never be more true than this current moment.
Walking up victor's village, she joined in with the prep teams small talk.
"Your legs look amazing Effie! Have you been working out?"
"You're so gorgeous, I wish I looked like you!"
"I know loads of people who literally talk about how hot you are, all the time!"
Honestly, she had heard it all before. Not from them, but from everyone, and escorts job was to be a sex symbol. It was probably written in the rules somewhere.
After setting the prep team towards Katniss's house, Effie made her way to Haymitch's. Careful not to slip on ice, she warily stepped up the marble to his door. Long gone were the days where she would politely knock; now she just entered, not caring of the consequences. What could he do after all? Well, kill her she supposed, but she'd felt worse.
"Haymitch!" She shouted. If he wasn't sober for today...
"Haymitch! Are you here?!" She wandered upstairs and into his room where he would most likely be. Many times had she found him passed out on his bed, a tidal wave of bottles surrounding him.
Searching through his things, she was shocked at how much alcohol he did actually consume. He obviously drank to die. That sudden fact made her heart drop and her feel hollow. Effie felt constricted inside a massive bedroom and she wanted out.
As she was just about to leave, she spotted something on the dresser next to the door. On closer inspection she realised what it was and dropped the offending item on the floor.
Why did he have this? Did he have someone? Was it just for fun or was it a serious girlfriend? Questions raced through her mind and she paced down the staircase at and equal speed.
On her way out she almost took the woman at the door out. She had olive skin with dark hair and was carrying a baby. Effie stared at her.
"Hi, I'm hazel." The woman smiled and held out a free hand. "You're Effie Trinket, aren't you? Nice to meet you,"
Effie felt sick. Not at the possibility this woman was Haymitch's new love, but at how this mysterious woman, Hazel, had introduced herself to her with no disgust. She didn't deserve kindness here in district 12, and as much as Effie knew that, she longed for it anyway. Now this woman was giving her it and she felt disgusted with herself. Effie glanced at the baby in her arms and felt dizzy. Oh god. She felt like crying. She needed out of this house, now. A hurricane of imagines filled Effie's thoughts as the baby giggled at her. A grown-up 12-year old version of Hazel's child picked for the games, by her hand none-the-less. The child at the tribute's parade. The child interviewed by Caesar. The child in the games. The child murdered by an 18 year old career. Effie whimpered. It was better than a sob.
"Hello," Effie said, weakly.
"Why are you in Haymitch's house?" Hazel asked, not unkindly.
"I was looking for him." Effie was struggling to put a sentence together as the baby reached out for Effie. "The victory tour starts soon,"
"Ah yes! Katniss is a lovely girl," hazel smiled. Although she looked apprehensive when Effie's finger was caught in the baby's grasp, Hazel did nothing to stop it. Effie smiled at the baby, trying to stop the thoughts in her mind.
"Hello... Sorry I don't know 373838 name?" She confessed.
"83838" hazel smiled.
"You're lovely." She addressed the baby. 283939 smiled and giggled at her.
"Why are you at Haymitch's house? Sorry, I don't mean to be.. Rude," Effie asked.
"Oh I just do some cleaning now and again,"
"Really?" Effie felt guilty at assuming the worst. "You doing a good job," she said, looking around. So that's why it looked cleaner...
Hazel nodded. "Anyway, we better be tidying, haven't we little one?" She jumped 19338 in her arms.
Effie smiled, "it was nice to meet you,"
"You too,"

Effie arrived at Katniss's house flustered and smiling. She spotted Haymitch in the corner and clicked over to him.
"Hello Haymitch,"
"Why do you have to wear something so ridiculous? Have you not seen the weather outside Princess?" Haymitch grumbled, gesturing to her outfit.
Effie rolled her eyes. "I'm fine, thank you for asking. I met your cleaner, she's nice,"
Haymitch raised an eyebrow.
"Hazel? You liked...hazel? Even though she's not upper class like yourself?"
Effie nodded. "Stop making out that I'm a snob, I'm not."
"You are. I'm surprised you even spoke to her."
Effie coughed. "I, I found an, um, interesting item in your bedroom too,"
"Teaches you right for going into my room. Or my house, for that matter. What was it?"
"I was looking for you!" Effie snapped. "It was contraception,"
Haymitch laughed. A genuine laugh, it warmed Effie's heart to see him happy for a change.
"Jealous Princess?"
Effie blushed. "N-no! I'm just curious."
"Well curiosity killed the cat, as they say,"
"Who is she?!" Effie snapped again, she was tired of his mind-games.
"I don't have anyone Princess, did you bother to check the date on the packet?"
Effie stuttered. She hadn't even thought about how long it might've been there. Haymitch nodded "thought so,"
"Hmph! Well it's still rude," she mumbled. "I shall see you on the train Haymitch," Effie flounced away.
"I'm sure you will princess!" He shouted after her.
