Prolog - Vacation
Months later Bolt found himself enjoying the sun as it hit his fur, his resting eyes turned away from the rays as he curled himself around his tuxedo cat wife. He was now on the porch of a large Hawaiian hut, the straw roof expertly crafted with the round wooden walls. It wasn't very big in human standards, but to him and his wife, it was perfect. "Mmmh!" Mittens groaned as she snuggled in closer to him. Her whiskers tickled his nose, and he shot up, sneezing once and shaking his head. His ears slapped themselves against his cheeks as he turned his head from side to side. Mittens laughed a little, "Sorry Bolt!" she said in apology. The dog smiled at her, "It's alright!" he said and nudged her with his nose, "It's been a long time!"
"Where did that come from?" Mittens asked as she lifted her head to look at him. Bolt chuckled, and lifted his face to the sun, letting its light warm his facial fur, "I mean since Nightmare just disappeared!" he said, "What do you think happened to him?"
"He was erased!" Mittens said as a matter of fact. Bolt turned to her, wondering what she had meant by that. She laughingly opened one of her eyes, and looked up at him with a smile. "Come on!" Bolt said as she began to chuckle. He quickly pushed her over with his paws, and firmly pressed into her chest, "Spill!" Mittens smiled happily, it wasn't the first time he had done that, and she had a feeling it wouldn't be the last either, "SPILL!" he repeated. "Alright!" Mittens said with a smile, "I kind of journey to the Astral World once in a while when I'm asleep. And Kevin told me that he just erased Nightmare from existence!" Bolt lowered himself so that his chin rested on her chest, his lips just out of reach of hers, "And?" he asked. Mittens moved her eyes to the top of her lids as she absentmindedly played with the edge of one of his ears, "Well he also told me that because of the influence Nightmare had on the world, he'll never be forgotten, which makes it impossible for all of his destruction to be completely forgotten. That's why some of the buildings were still wrecked when he was erased. Bolt grabbed her paw from his ear, holding it gently and getting her to look at him, "And?" he repeated. Mittens chuckled as she looked to him, "He also told me that I'm going to have a new litter of kits!" she said. "Oh is that all?" Bolt said as he turned his head, and then let the words sink in. His eyes shot open wide as he let the information register with him, "Yup! You're a father for a second time!" she told him. Bolt stood up from her, his eyes still open wide from the information as memories of when his first litter was growing up. "Bolt?" Mittens asked and watched as his smile crept up, and he feinted, "Some things never change!" she said as she chuckled.
