"Davos," is the only word Danny can mutter.

"He was once known as the Steel Serpent," Crane Mother explains, "Now you will know him as the Steel Phoenix."

Davos looks at his newly resurrected body and then turns to her, "Who are you?"

"Crane Mother, the ruler of K'un Zi. I have brought you back and have given you power. I only ask that you be my champion in return."

"That's a nice offer but I really have some unfinished business with this man," he turns and tries to go for Danny, only to find himself held back by an invisible force once Crane Mother raises a single fist.

"You always wanted the power of the Iron Fist," she tells him, "You could have been an Immortal Weapon and now I have given you that chance."

"Right now, all I want is his head."

"You got it," Danny rises to his feet and rushes to attack, but Crane Mother raises her other hand, throwing him back against the wall, "There will be a time and place, Daniel Rand."

"If you brought me back," Davos begins, "I suppose I'm in your debt."

"Yes."

"Davos, your father is here," Danny tells him as he stands up again, "Will you betray him? Will you betray K'un Lun?"

Davos glances at him and then back to Crane Mother, "If I become your champion, promise me the chance to kill him."

"You will get that chance in the tournament."

"Then I am at your service, Crane Mother," he bows to her.

"A wise choice," she smiles back and both disappear in a puff of black smoke, leaving a disturbed Danny as the light fades.

Outside the Heart of Heaven, Orson drives Colleen and Misty through the desert at night. "When I refused to participate in the tournament, I knew people were gonna come after me," he tells them, "I snuck around until I found a way out. It was through the underground sewers."

"But we're just driving through empty desert," Colleen tells him, "I can't even see the city anymore."

"The city exists in multiple places at once. We saw the entrance back there but as it turns out, there are other spots that also exist here on Earth. When I got out of the sewers, I found myself a few miles away."

"So what are we looking for?," Misty asks.

Orson slams the brakes and the SUV skids through the sand, the passengers lunging forward in their seats. "That," Orson points through the windshield. Ahead of them is a single, black wall sticking out of the ground. The women look closer and the headlights reveal metal grating along the base. "We should camp out here tonight," Orson explains, "Fumbling around the sewers in the dead of night is not a good idea. There will be more light tomorrow." He leans against the driver's door, "Get some rest for now." Misty and Colleen look at each other curiously.

The next morning, Danny rushes to see Lei Kung who is at his temple, meditating. "Master Lei Kung," he begins in a panic but Lei Kung raises a single finger to silence him. "I have studied chi long enough to sense it in those I meet," then adds, "I can recognize my own son." Danny is flabbergasted. He remains silent as Lei Kung rises to his feet and walks with him to the entrance of the temple. "You're calmer about this than I expected," he finally admits. "We are expected to meet with the other Immortal Weapons and the Council,ยจ he tells him as he leads him out, "You can explain everything else on the way."

They enter the meeting hall minutes later after everyone else has already arrived. Danny and Lei Kung eye Davos who sits across the room in a purple and black sleeveless fighting uniform with an open chest, exposing the phoenix symbol in the center of his sternum. Crane Mother rises from her seat, "Ah, the representatives from K'un Lun have arrived," she greets them, "As you can see, I now have a champion." The Green Mist eyes them curiously.

"Davos," Lei Kung speaks and seems to barely contain his conflicting emotions, "I am pleased to see you, although I wish it was as a citizen of K'un Lun."

"Hello, father," Davos stands up and bows, "What a pleasure it is to see you along with the man who killed me."

"You pursued Daniel Rand-K'ai," Lei Kung tells him sternly, "You tried to kill him and his loved ones. You killed innocent men."

"Outsiders," he sneers back.

"That's enough," One of the Council members speaks up, "There will be time to settle disputes in the arena. King Lei Kung, Daniel Rand, we have decided that since Crane Mother was late in getting a champion, she will be responsible for officiating the tournament."

"Great," Danny groans, "So you people are okay with the fact that she attacked me last night?"

"She did no actual harm to your body," Hua's father explains, "But rest assured she has been chided for her actions."

"Oh, well, as long as you gave her a stern talking to," Danny rolls his eyes.

Lei Kung leans in and whispers, "Restrain yourself, Daniel. She is a queen and you are an Immortal Weapon."

"So she's able to get away with bending the rules."

"In a way... Yes."

"Wonderful."

"There is a certain protocol to all this. We must follow it. This tournament is far too important for us to waste on petty squabbles."

"Let's just get this over with."

Later, the characters arrive at the large arena in the center of the city. The stands are now filled with thousands of spectators from K'un Lun and every other city. There is a wide variety of dress among the crowd. In the middle, each champion stands alongside his or her ruler as performers on the sides play drums. Crane Mother steps forward and addresses the audience.

"Citizens of the Seven Cities, I greet you," she announces, "It has been far too long since this tournament last commenced. Now, with the alignment of the cities, we can determine who can return to the mortal world. Immortal Weapons, please step forward," the fighters take turns stepping forward as she announces them, "Davos, the Steel Phoenix, ...John Aman the Green Mist of Death, ...Hua the Tiger's Beautiful Daughter, ... Dog Brother #1,... Fat Cobra,... Bride of Nine Spiders,... and Daniel Rand, the Iron Fist."

A servant approaches her and hands a cup of wooden sticks, "As with each tournament, the Immortal Weapons will cast lots to determine their opponents and the order of their matches." She passes the cup along the line and each fighter takes one, leaving Danny for last. He pulls a wooden stick curiously and sees the spider totem on it. The Bride of Nine Spiders giggles strangely, "You fight me in the first round," then gets a more serious look on her face, "If you harm any of my children, I'll kill you." Danny smiles awkwardly, "I'll try not to step on them." Davos glares at the tiger totem in his hand and looks at Danny. Hua walks over to him and nods respectively, "You seem like a strong opponent," she tells him, "I am honored." Davos glares at her, "You are nothing more than practice." "How dare you?," she snarls. Fat Cobra and Dog Brother hold each others' totems in their hands. "So we are facing each other in the first round," Fat Cobra tells him. "I look forward to seeing that speed you claim to have," Dog Brothersmirks. Green Mist examines the blank stick in his hand. "You will not be fighting the first round, it seems," Crane Mother tells him, "Instead, you will face an opponent in the second round." He glares at her silently. Davos and Danny stand facing each other and Crane Mother passes between them as she addresses the audience once again.

"The first round has been decided," she raises her arms as she motions toward the fighters, "Fat Cobra will face Dog Brother #1, The Bride of Nine Spiders will face the Iron Fist, and the Steel Phoenix will face the Tiger's Beautiful Daughter. The Green Mist of Death shall face the winner of the final match in the second round," she turns and faces the champions, "The first round shall begin soon. Immortal Weapons, prepare yourselves."
