Rosalina's POV

My heart dropped to my stomach. I couldn't think. I couldn't breathe. "He's…is he okay?"

"I don't know the status of the patient. I'm only supposed to contact someone."

"Uh…okay, thank you." I hung up the phone and turned to Alex and Juanita.

"What happened? Was that him? Is he okay? What's going on?" Alex asked frantically.

"We need to go to the hospital. Nat's hurt."

"Okay well we need to go, right now!" Alex shouted, getting up with Juanita copying his actions.

"Okay, okay, we need to call Jesse so she can take us."

I didn't know what to do. He was in a car accident. A car accident. My God…he can't even drive! Who was he with? And why? Where was he going? What was he doing? What was he thinking? I didn't even realize that Jesse had pulled up to the hospital. "Thanks Jesse," I said taking off my seat belt.

"I'll be there in a little bit, you guys go ahead," Jesse said.

Alex, Juanita and I got out of the car and ran into the hospital. We went up to the desk. "Excuse me do you have any information about Nat Wolff?"

A doctor nearby spoke up instead, "Rosalina, Alex, I was hoping you two would come."

"Dr. Brennan," I said, realizing who the doctor was. "How is he?"

"He's stable, but it was quite an accident."

"What happened?"

"He was in a car with another man, who was apparently intoxicated."

I didn't care at this point. I didn't even think about it. "Can we see him?"

"Follow me," Dr. Brennan led the way down a hallway and stopped in front of a door. "Rosalina, I think you should see him first."

I nodded and turned to Alex and Juanita. "You guys stay out here okay? I'll be right back."

Alex and Juanita nodded and sat on a bench against the wall.

"Now he may look a little freaky, but he is fine. He should make a full recovery."

"Why would he look freaky?"

"We have an oxygen mask on him, just so we can stabilize his breathing." I must've looked worried because he quickly added. "But like I've said he'll be fine."

I nodded and followed him inside.

Nat was sitting up in the bed, asleep and just like Dr. Brennan said, with an oxygen mask on. He had a few scratches on his face, including one that looked like it had only recently stopped bleeding.

"How long has he been here?" I asked.

"A few hours now; he's been in and out of consciousness."

I walked over to the side of the bed, and took his hand.

"I'll let you have some time alone. I'll be back in a little bit." With that Dr. Brennan left the room.

"God, Nat what did you do…"

Suddenly he squeezed my hand, and his eyes opened the tiniest bit.

"Hey Wolff, you're pretty banged up there," I said softly.

He smiled weakly.

"I'll get Dr. Brennan." I moved to walk away but he gripped my hand tightly. "Or…not." I stood next to the bed again.

He slowly and cautiously lowered the oxygen mask off his face. "What happened?" He asked, his voice coming out raspy.

"That's what I'd like to know," I said giving him a look. "You went to go help Cooper, but then Cooper calls asking for you. Then when he says he has no idea where you are, I get a call from the hospital saying that you've been in a car accident. Where did you go? What did you do?"

"It's nothing…"

"You're seriously going to play that card when you're lying in a hospital bed?"

"I mean, it's obviously something, but it's no big deal. It doesn't matter where I went."

"It does to me, and to Alex. Where did you go?"

Just before he was able to answer, the door opened and Dr. Brennan walked in again. "Oh Nat, you're awake," He said walking over to the other side of the bed. "How're you feeling?"

"Tired and sore," Nat said, looking at Dr. Brennan. "How long will this take to get over?"

"Well it's good to know you want to recover, but I'm sorry to say this is going to take a bit longer than last time."

"How long?"

"To fully feel better, I'd say about a month or more. But it all depends on you. And we all know how stubborn you are."

"Well we know how to give him his pain medication this time," I spoke up.

"Oh yeah, real funny," Nat said, giving me a look.

"And this time I really must insist you stay in the hospital a few extra days. Just to make sure you're okay, and the minute we know, you'll be free to go home," Dr. Brennan added.

Nat groaned.

"I'm sure Rosalina and Alex will keep you good company."

Nat squeeze my hand tightly again. "What about my dad? Where is he?"

"Your dad?" I asked in shock. What was he talking about?

"If you mean the man you were driving with, he's in a room down the hall. Although when he gets out of the hospital, he'll be going to jail."

"How is he? Will he be okay?"

"He also experienced some head trauma, similar to yours. He hasn't woken up yet."

"Okay…thank you, Dr. Brennan."

"I'll be back later," He said, and walked out.

"What were you doing with your dad? I thought your dad was in jail. Why would you get into a car with him? Especially while he's drunk? Nat, what were you thinking? How did you even talk to him? Why?"

"Rosie, Rosie," He said, stopping me. "Can you please get me some water?"

I went into the bathroom and got a paper cup to fill with water and brought it back to him. After he drank the whole cup, he looked at me. "Okay, I can explain."

"Yeah, I think you should."

"When I went to get the mail there was a letter. It was from my dad. It said that he was in jail, but he got out a little early for good behavior. He said he wanted to meet me because he wanted to talk to me. And I first I thought 'no way' because I promised myself I would never to see or talk to him again. But then I kept reading it over and over and I was curious about what he would say if I met him somewhere."

"So that's when you thought it was okay to get in a car with him while he was drunk?"

"I didn't know he was drunk until I was already in the car!" He defended himself.

"Why didn't you tell me that your dad contacted you?"

"Because I knew you'd tell me I shouldn't go!"

"And you shouldn't have!"

"Why not?"

"Do you not realize where we are right now?" I wanted to literally scream at him. He was being ridiculous! "God Nat…you can't do stuff like this!"

"It was a one-time thing!"

"You should have told me, told someone where you were going! What if instead of getting into a car crash, your dad took you away and we never heard from you again? Then what would've happened? You would've been missing, and I would freak out and Alex would freak out–"

"But I didn't get kidnapped!"

"No, you got worse! You almost got killed, Nat!"

"It wasn't that bad of a crash," He mumbled, looking away.

I sighed, running a hand through my hair. "That's not the point."

He still didn't look at me.

"What convinced you that you should go see your father who was arrested for abusing you and your brother?"

"He said he changed…he said he wanted to get sober."

"But you said you didn't want to see him anymore; that you didn't care what happened to him."

"Well I didn't then…but…I don't know, he sounded convincing."

"Oh Nat…" I sat on the edge of the bed. "It's okay if you miss your dad."

"I don't miss him."

"Then why did you want to see him so badly?"

"I didn't want Alex to have to grow up without a parent…I figured if my dad was sober, he could come live with us again and we could start over and be a real family."

"That's a really sweet thing of you to do, and it really does make you the best big brother in the whole world. But Nat he can't become sober in that short amount of time, especially if he's been drinking like that for who knows how long. It's going to take more time."

"I know. I've always known, but I guess there was a part of me that wanted me to be wrong."
