I know I've taken forever to update, but I promise I havent forgotten this story. Here's another chapter! Thanks so much to every one of my loyal readers. You guys rock.
Kind of a short chapter today. But...
Big things are coming soon! (Maniacal Laughter!)
Los Angeles had gotten through another day without the threat of a terrorist attack. This recent lack of terrorist activity had resulted in the team getting caught up on several years' worth of every kind of paperwork imaginable.
"If I file another expense report my head will explode. Let's go home guys." Callen said.
Kensi shot Deeks a sharp look.
"Deeks. Don't you have something to tell them before we go home?" Kensi asked.
He nodded. He should have told them already, but he was a little afraid to.
"You guys better not be breaking up." Sam said.
Deeks laughed and Kensi rolled her eyes. "No. Never." He said.
He pulled his shiny new badge out of his pocket.
"Why are you showing us your badge?" Callen asked.
"Because this isn't the same badge he had yesterday." Sam said as he grabbed the badge out of Deeks hands.
"Special Agent Marty Deeks." He said.
"It has a nice ring to it." Kensi said, looking up at Deeks.
"Let me see that." Callen walked over to Sam and took the badge. "This is a terrible picture."
"We need to go out and celebrate. Go tell the Wonder Twins." Sam said.
"Wait for it." Kensi said.
About five seconds later Nell raced down the stairs with Eric close behind. "Deeks!" She nearly tackled him in a hug.
"What? How?" Sam asked.
"Little Sister's always watching." Kensi said with a smile.
"Let's go. Hetty are you coming with us?" Nell shouted in the general direction of Hetty's office.
"Someone has to make sure you all stay out of trouble."
They had all had a few drinks when a slow song came on. Deeks extended his hand to Kensi and they glided over to the dance floor. The song was almost half over when Eric took a chance and asked Nell to dance.
"May I have this dance?" He said as he regally extended his hand. She took it and smiled at him coyly.
Kensi and Deeks were standing close and moving around in small circles, only speaking in a few whispered "I love you"s.
Nell and Eric on the other hand, were quite chatty as always.
"I didn't know you spent your spare time thinking of couple's names for us." Eric said.
"Get over yourself Eric. I don't spend my time thinking of cute couple names. I came up with that on the spot."
"Okay. Whatever. If you don't spend time thinking of couple's names, you spend your time doodling Mrs. Nell Beale in your diary."
Nell rolled her eyes but didn't deny it.
"That's my cue to leave. Gotta go read my kid a story before she falls asleep." Sam said.
"Goodnight Mr. Hanna." Hetty replied.
"I guess it's just me and you, Hetty." Callen said.
"Indeed it is Mr. Callen."
"How did that end up happening?" Callen said, gesturing to the two couples on the dance floor.
"I suppose I am partially to blame. I hired all of them."
"I'm glad you did. They wouldn't be who they are without their partners."
"Try telling that to Assistant Director Granger. He believes that once a relationship goes beyond partnership and friendship, the partners must be separated."
"Are there NCIS regulations that agree with him?"
"No. That's why I've been able to hold him off, that and the period that Kensi and Deeks spent as a couple before they informed us of their new status. That time was solid evidence that they could uphold their partnership and a relationship outside of work. Without it he may have forced me to split them up."
"You know we would all fight like hell to keep them together."
"I do, but I hope it will never come to that."
Just then, the song ended and the couples rejoined the group at the table.
"Watcha guys talking about?" Deeks asked.
"They're probably telling war stories in Russian." Nell quipped.
Hetty and Callen laughed. "I'm going to head home. Goodnight guys. Congrats again Deeks. And prepare to go through hell starting tomorrow, Probi."
Callen hugged everyone and left.
"Hetty you aren't going to let them haze me like this are you? I mean come on. You can't let them bully your favorite agent."
Hetty, ever the diplomat, just shook her head. "No comment, Mr. Deeks. Goodnight everyone."
Hetty walked away.
"I told you that would happen. Just remember, you got yourself into this." Kensi said.
"No ma'am I did not. I just signed the paper. If you didn't make me fall in love with you I could have stayed a cop."
"I didn't make you do anything-"
"Guys. We're leaving. I hope they don't make your life a living hell, Deeks." Nell said as she hugged each of them. Eric did the same and added "we love you guys."
As they were walking away from the table, Kensi and Deeks resumed their stupid argument about whose fault it was that Deeks was facing the wrath of Sam and Callen for becoming an NCIS agent.
They had made it outside of the crowded building when Nell stopped walking.
"Do you think we're like them?" She asked.
"Who, Kensi and Deeks?"
Nell nodded.
"I really hope so."
Thanks for reading!
Review? :)
