Chapter 10: Unexpected Coincidences
A couple of days later, Jim had moved in with his mother. It wasn't so hard moving all his stuff from his apartment, since he didn't have much things and the place was pretty small. Small enough just to have one person living in it.
After finally settling all the moving boxes in the big empty house, Jim was relaxed. He was happy and mostly excited. He was so excited that baby kicked him every time he had a slight rush of adrenaline in his guts.
He went to the kitchen to grab a cup of milk. When he opened the fridge he noticed that they were a little low on supplies.
"Mom, I'm going to go grocery shopping, we're running low on some things!" Jim yelled because his mom was upstairs. He heard a faint 'ok' in reply. He needed to go out for a walk anyway, doctor McCoy said that he needed to exercise regularly.
In the lounge are where all of his moving boxes were placed, he reached out for one of them grabbing a new pair of his maternity jeans, white t-shirt and big over-sized black sweater. He felt fresh after changing from his old clothes that he'd been wearing the whole morning.
He walked along the town that was closest to his house, thanking god that his stomach wasn't attracting much attention because of his large sweater. As he walked in the area that he hasn't been to in a very long time, he explored a little, remembering all the good times he had here as a kid. There was this restaurant that really attracted his attention. It was an Italian pizza place. It looked really neat and Jim couldn't wait until he told Winona about it. She would love to go here some time.
Before he had the chance to continue walking, Jim heard someone call his name with confusion in his voice.
"Jim?" the familiar voice called again.
Jim's heartbeat escalated quickly and his breathing quickened, because he had recognised that voice. Oh God, that voice. He slowly turned around, facing who he had wished wasn't there.
"S-Spock?" he tensed.
"Jim, I have finally found you." Spock said almost blissfully.
"What are you doing here?" Jim said, still tensed up. The baby gave him a series of kicks, causing him to be a little dizzy. Being paranoid, he slowly pulled down his sweater trying to hide his bump even more. Spock didn't even notice, for he was too distracted, gazing at Jim.
"I am here to visit a sick friend of mine. I had decided to look around the town here during my visit and I don't live far from here. How are you? It has been a while.." He said stepping closer, making Jim even more nervous by the second.
"I-I I've been good, a little busy actually, right now, at the moment." He stuttered a little.
"Please..could you accompany me have a lunch meal at the diner? It would be a pleasure to get to know you more."
Ah shit. This isn't what Jim needed right now. How could this Vulcan guy still be after him, after a god damn one night stand? Who does that? Spock doesn't even know he's pregnant for god's sake! He wanted to get out of this situation as fast as possible, but he didn't want to be rude.
"Ok, sure, I'll accompany you." He forced himself to smile and agree.
They sat at a diner, talking to each other as they ate. Spock ordered a medium salad with a strawberry shake and Jim ordered a large stack of pancakes with whipped cream and syrup on top and a cup of milk aside it. Spock tried his best not to judge. They talked for a little, even exchanging each others' number so they could catch up later on. Jim wasn't really interested in giving Spock his number, let alone receiving his. But still, he felt bad.
"Jim.." Spock said calmly, "There is something I must tell you, something I must confess." Jim nodded, letting Spock know to continue.
"I..have these feelings. Usually Vulcans choose not to feel at all, and they choose to store their feelings deep down inside, like I do. But..over the months, something has come over me. Ever since I've met you, I've been experiencing the feelings of...love and compassion-"
"Woah, woah, woah what!?" Jim exclaimed, surprised. "Love and compassion? We've only known each other for a night! And that was months ago! This isn't Romeo and Juliet, Spock!" he raised his voice. Everyone in the diner started looking at them, but Jim didn't care.
"Jim please...calm yourself." Spock said in a gentle tone.
"I will not calm myself! I'm not looking for a relationship with anyone right now, I just want to be left alone!" He shouted angrily and walked-well slightly waddled out the door, leaving Spock alone in the booth.
Jim's eyes teared up, he couldn't control his emotions. He cussed at the hormones making him like that. Apart from that, he was really angry, confused and..he felt..guilt? Screw the groceries, he was going home.
Jim stormed into the house, startling his mother. He avoided eye contact with her and rushed upstairs to his bedroom as fast as his pregnant self could.
"Jim? Jim what's wrong?" Winona worried. Jim didn't answer, all she heard was his bedroom door slam.
She decided to go up to see what was wrong. As she walked closer to the closed door, she heard soft chocking sobs. She felt so much sympathy for him. She gently opened his bedroom door, finding Jim laying in a fetal position, crying into his pillow, as quite as he could.
"Jim..what happened?" Winona said sympathetically. "Honey, why are you crying?"
"I-I ran into S-Spock today." He sobbed. "It didn't go very well." He said, sounding like as if he had the flu due to his blocked nose.
Jim told Winona every thing that had happened at the diner. From meeting Spock to the bit when he stormed out of the place leaving him all by himself at the booth.
"Jim listen..I know you're upset. I know that you don't want to have a serious relationship with anyone..but you are pregnant with Spock's baby. That's his flesh and blood too. He has every right to know about his kid too. And you know, when she is born, she is going to remind you of him everyday for the rest of your life. It will bring so much guilt and pain to you. Just think about it." She said, as Jim's sobbing calmed down a little. "You've been out for over and hour, I'll leave you to rest ok?" There was no reply the whole time she spoke, but she knew Jim heard and understood her.
Moments later, the baby seemed to have fallen asleep. Maybe it was tired from kicking and moving around inside Jim so much, but this was good. Because he finally got the rest he needed.
A/N: again sorry for the delay and hopefully I won't keep you guys waiting again, but I won't make any promises! ;-;
