A/N-I DO NOT OWN THE NAKED BROTHERS BAND!
Hey guys!
So I unexpectedly realized, this is the LAST chapter of "Keep Your Enemies Close."
Wow, how far this story has come. And thank YOU to all of you who continued to read and review when I would stop posting for 2-3 weeks at a time. Thank you to all my new readers and the ones who have stuck with me through it all.
I know a lot of you were looking forward to Just A Face in The Hall, but I've been on major writer's block for that story. Also, because I've become extremely busy with school, I don't want to start a story that I can't promise a finish to. So, because of these reasons, I've made a tough decision that is to take a break from writing fan fictions for a while. I will occasionally post oneshots, but I don't think it's a good idea for me to start another story because I don't want to leave you guys hanging. Please understand that this is only me thinking of you guys. I'm sorry to those who were expecting Just A Face in The Hall. I hope you all understand.
And finally, enjoy the LAST chapter of "Keep Your Enemies Close." (:
Nat's POV
"Alex, c'mon! We're gonna be late and I'm nervous enough as it is."
"Why are you nervous?" Alex asked walking into the living room. "It's just Rosalina's dad."
We were going to have dinner with Rosalina and her dad. I basically had recovered from the accident. It had been about 3 weeks since it happened. Rosalina
"Exactly. What if he doesn't like me?"
"Are you being serious right now?" Alex looked like he was trying to hold back a laugh. "Why is it such a big deal?"
"If he doesn't like me he won't let Rosalina and I date."
"Do you really think that after everything Rosalina would just stop dating you because someone told her to?"
I shrugged.
"Just relax, dude. Everything will be fine."
I was still nervous about meeting Rosalina's dad. He's probably the only other person in the entire world besides my own father who's ever made me nervous. Alex and I walked Rosalina's house and knocked on the door. (I figured I probably shouldn't use the key this time.)
Rosalina opened the door and smiled at us. "Hey guys. Come on in." She stepped aside so we could walk in. The minute I stepped inside she took my hand. "Don't be nervous," She whispered to me.
"How did you…?"
She looked at Alex who smiled sheepishly at me.
"I thought Rosalina could help."
"Don't worry Nat, my dad's okay with you already. He just wants to meet you officially."
I relaxed slightly but not much. "But what if he doesn't like me after he meets me?"
"How couldn't he? Just come on." She led us into the dining room. "Dad! Nat and Alex are here."
Mr. Tai walked in from the kitchen, and I could tell he was Rosalina's father. He smiled at Alex and I. "Hello boys, it's nice to finally meet you." He stuck out his hand for me to shake, which I did.
"It's nice to meet you too, sir."
After that Rosalina and I helped set the table and serve dinner and when we sat down was when I got really nervous. I guess I was so nervous that my leg started shaking because Rosalina put her hand on my knee under the table. She gave me a reassuring smile which calmed me down a bit.
"So Nat, Rosalina tells me you've helped her out a lot these past few weeks."
Did he know that I knew? Did he know that I found Rosalina passed out in this very room? Did he know that I knew that he went off with some woman and lied to his own daughter? "Well, yeah, but Rosalina's been there for me through a lot more. I don't know what I would've done without her." Did he know about my father? What exactly had Rosalina told him?
"How are you boys doing?"
I glanced at Rosalina who shot her father a look.
He picked up on it and quickly added, "I don't mean to pry. You don't have to answer if you're uncomfortable."
"No, no, it's fine. We're fine. We're doing great actually. I'm just ready for this school year to end."
"Oh yes, and Rosalina's graduating this year."
"Dad," Rosalina said in a warning tone.
He's clueless. "What?"
"Can we not talk about graduation? Please?"
"Why not? You should be proud that you got accepted into FIU."
Rosalina stopped, but refused to look at me.
"FIU?" I asked, looking at Mr. Tai.
"Yes, Rosalina's been accepted into Florida International University. She didn't tell you?"
I look at Rosalina who still refused to look back at me. "No, uh…she didn't tell me that."
Mr. Tai suddenly looked guilty. "I shouldn't have said that, should I?" He asked, looking at Rosalina.
I pushed away from the table and stood up. "Please excuse me," I said, walking towards the front door.
I heard Rosalina and Alex getting up to follow me but I didn't stop, I kept walking until I was almost a block away from Rosalina's house.
"Nat, stop!" I heard Rosalina calling after me.
"C'mon dude, just let Rosalina explain," Alex said.
"Explain what?" I asked, turning around to face them. "Explain how she planned to leave us? Explain how she didn't even tell us that she was applying to FIU in the first place?"
"Nat, please," Rosalina begged. "Just calm down and let me explain."
"I'm not going to calm down," I snapped. "Everyone in my life leaves Alex and me and they don't even care."
"That is not true and you know it."
"My own father left didn't he? He chose to drink rather than be our father! And look where that got him!" It was out before I could take it back. And the minute I saw their facial expressions I knew it was the wrong thing to say. "Everyone leaves…" I mumbled.
Instead of trying to say something, Rosalina wrapped her arms around me tightly.
"What are you doing?" I asked, looking at her.
"I'm sorry. I'm so, so, sorry."
I slowly wrapped my arms around her. "It's okay, I should be sorry. I overreacted."
"No you didn't, you just didn't want to lose me."
"So does this mean you're not going to leave?" I asked hopefully as we pulled a part.
"I was never going to leave."
"Then why would you apply to the college if you weren't going to go?"
"When I applied to the college I had every intention of going. I had nothing keeping me here. My relationship with my father was deteriorating and I didn't have any real friends that I would keep in contact with, so I planned on going and living there probably for the rest of my life."
"So what changed?"
"You did."
"What do you mean?"
"That night at the party turned my whole life upside down. And then when you asked me out, I knew my college plans would have to change too. Then as time went on I knew for sure I couldn't leave. Now I have the guys and Alex here. My dad's and my relationship is better than ever now. And I have you."
Suddenly I felt really guilty. "But I don't want to be the reason you give up the college of your dreams."
"I'd much rather be here with you and Alex than miserable at some college."
"Really?"
"But Rosalina if you really want to go to this college, we'll understand," Alex spoke up. "We'll miss you a lot, but if we don't want to hold you back."
"Its fine, Alex," She reassured him. "I'll be just as happy right here in New York. That way I can keep you and the guys out of trouble." She smiled.
"So you won't hate us when we're older?" Alex asked, looking at Rosalina.
"I could never hate you."
"You did once," I remind her.
She took my hand. "Yeah, well you hated me too."
"I never hated anyone," Alex chimed in. "I didn't even know who you were, really."
"I guess that old saying is right," Rosalina said, looking at both of us.
"What saying?" I asked.
"The saying, 'keep your friends close, and your enemies closer.'"
I laughed. "That's so cheesy."
"But we were enemies weren't we?"
"Yeah we were, but we aren't now."
"Well how do I know you don't still secretly hate me?"
"If I hated you, I wouldn't have told you everything I did. Heck, I wouldn't even be here right now if I hated you. Hating you would mean losing you, and that is something I don't plan on doing anytime soon."
A/N-Thank you all SO SO SO much for reading and reviewing.
You all are amazing. Thank you so much for understanding (:
