Danny craddles Misty in his arms as she cries out, "It's okay, baby. I got you." He summons the Iron Fist and it emits the faint healing glow it produced when he healed Hua. He places it below her elbow where her arm was injured and closes his eyes to concentrate. Colleen runs to them, tears streaming down her cheeks as she watches. Misty cries out even louder as the glow gets brighter. The Immortal Weapons, now conscious, finally arrive on the scene and appear concerned but are unable to help. The glow becomes even brighter and Danny concentrates harder as his teeth clench and sweat beads on his forehead. "You can do it, Danny," Colleen tells him. The glow gets even brighter, almost engulfing them both as Misty can still be heard screaming. "You're doing great, Misty," Colleen asures her, "Hold on!" Misty lets out one, final cry and the glowing light bursts, then they both collapse. Colleen stoops down and checks on Misty while Danny is the first to sit up; the ordeal obviously exhausting him and draining him of a great deal of energy. Misty sits up next ... and raises her newly regenerated arm with a shirt sleeve torn at the elbow. They are all at a loss for words as they stare at Misty. "That,... was really weird," she says softly and they embrace, with Colleen soon joining them.
Later, most of the city is gathered at the exit of the Heart of Heaven. The Council stands before the Immortal Weapons, Colleen, and Misty. "Thank you all for your courage," one of the Council members tells them, "Your bravery will be remembered in the Seven Cities for centuries to come." They all bow to the Council.
"You have made your mother proud," Hua's father tells her.
"Thank you, father," she says with a rare smile.
"Do we have time to look around?," Colleen asks, "I've mostly only seen the inside of a dungeon. This place is the sort of thing my grandfather used to tell me about as a little girl."
"They say the city will disappear soon," Danny tells her, "We don't have the time. Sorry."
"Well, maybe in another eighty-eight years."
"So with the tournament interrupted again, does that mean K'un L'un will be the one to come back in ten years?," Misty asks.
"Appears that way."
Lei Kung walks over to Danny cautiously. He turns, smiles, and bows thoughtfully.
"I know this reunion was not as... pleasant as you would have liked it to be," Lei Kung begins.
"It was good to see you, either way," Danny places a hand on his shoulder.
"None of this would have happened if I hadn't allowed you to have the power of the Iron Fist. I knew your life would be more complicated once you received this power but I also knew you were worthy to have it. Do you... regret my decision?"
"Never," he says with a smile, "Not for a second."
"I"m very proud of you, Daniel Rand-K'ai."
"Thank you, Master."
Danny hugs him. At first he hesitates and appears uncomfortable but finally places a single hand on his shoulder. "See you in ten years," Danny tells him. "Of course," he replies.
Soon, Danny, Colleen, Misty, and the Immortal Weapons exit the front gates of the city and go out into the Gobi Desert. Danny turns to them, "So, I guess the Council has big plans for the Immortal Weapons. You guys all set to go out into the world?"
"Yes," Green Mist tells him, "If what Crane Mother said was true and there is an Eighth City out there, we'll find it."
"From all indications, the Eighth City doesn't sound too friendly. If you need my help, you know where to find me."
"Juding by the fate of the Iron Fist, it seems you may need our help at some point," Bride of Nine Spiders says thoughtfully.
"I would be glad to have it."
"You fought well, Daniel Rand," Hua tells him.
"Thanks. Do you guys need a ride back to civilization?"
"No thank you," Fat Cobra tells him, "We have strong legs... some more than others."
"Good luck."
"Until we meet again."
The Immortal Weapons turn and leave. As they walk across the desert, Fat Cobra turns to Dog Brother #1, "Can you endure my presence for a while longer, friend?". Dog Brother turns to him and laughs, "I can think of worse company." They continue on and Danny and the rest watch as they go.
Colleen turns to Misty, "You were pretty badass back there. You saved the day and everything. Feel better?"
"Yeah, I do," she answers.
"How's the arm?," Danny asks.
"Still weird," Misty explains as she takes another look.
They turn their attention back to the city as the gates begin to fade in the desert sand as a gust of wind blows past them. Inside the city, various parts of the landscape and entire buildings likewise fade away. Lei Kung watches from the top of his temple as the skyline disappears and is replaced by the city of K'un L'un. In the void, K'un L'un floats peacefully. Back in another part of the Gobi Desert, a single hand pushes a metal grate out of the ground next to a single wall. Davos, now bruised and dirty with a torn costume, pulls himself onto the sand and flops over on his side, then watches as the wall behind him disappears. "That was close," he mutters, stands up, and makes his way across the sand in no particular direction.
With the Seven Cities separated once again and the Heart of Heaven gone, the Gobi Desert is empty. Danny, Misty, and Colleen stand in front of a small wooden cross stuck in the ground with the name Orson Randall written on it. They give a moment of silence before heading to their car, which is still parked where they left it.
"Does your arm still feel weird?," Danny asks, "I had to use a lot energy to repair it."
"It doesn't hurt or anything," Misty explains as she goes to the passenger side door, "It just feels... almost too healthy if that makes sense."
Misty tries to open the car door and ends up ripping the handle clean off the car. The three of them look at one another silently and then, "That's gonna take some getting used to," she mutters. Danny nods with a confused look on his face. They all get into the car and drive off through the desert on their way back home. The Sun sets in the distance.
THE STINGER
It's night and Davos is still trekking through the desert on foot, his severed hand wrapped in what is left of his shirt. His chest is bare, exposing the phoenix symbol. Up ahead, he sees a few pairs of headlights and stops as they approach. Soon, the black SUVS come to a halt in front of him and several men in black military uniforms step out; they are followed by a very young Chinese man wearing a white suit with sneakers. He steps forward and smiles at Davos who simply gives him a curious stare.
"Hello," the man says in Mandarin, "You seem to be lost. May we give you a ride?"
"No, I'm fine."
The man looks off into the distance, "Are you sure? It's a long way to walk before you find the closest city," he turns back to Davos, "From what I understand, there used to be a city right here in this desert a few hours ago. Too bad we're late. We'll have to wait another eighty-eight years, huh?"
Davos' eyes widen but he says nothing.
"I noticed the symbol on your chest," the man continues as he eyes the phoenix scars, "You must've belonged to the city of K'un-Zi. I'm guessing Crane Mother was not successful?"
"Who are you?," Davos finally asks in English.
"My name is Xao," he responds also in English and turns to the men behind him, "And these are my men. We may have mutual goals. Maybe you'd like to join our little organization?"
"What organization?"
"You can call us... HYDRA."
THE END
