This chapter is completely Kindness x Envy! How cool is that?
Chapter 19
Missed?
Kiara's POV
I woke up to the feeling of someone staring at me.
Of course, it happened to be Envy.
"Whut?" I asked sleepily.
"I want to know why you are laying on top of me." He said grumpily.
"I'm not-" I stopped, realizing I was half-on top of him. "Okay, so I am. . ."
"Get off. I can't move my arm." He groaned.
I scrambled off, which he sighed in relief at.
"Sorry, did I hurt you more?" I watched him worriedly.
He stared at me. "Who are you and what did you do to Kiara?"
"What do you mean?! I'm right here, idiot!" I said defensively.
"Ah, there we go. The short-fused girl is back." He shifted, then grimaced in obvious pain.
"Seriously, are you okay?" I asked.
"As good as I could be with you near-killing me then laying on top of me." He grumbled.
I buried my head in my hands. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry, I'm sorry."
"Shut up."
I froze.
"It was my fault, alright? Just shut up about it." He turned his face away.
"Wow." I breathed.
"What."
"It's working."
"What?"
"I'm guiding you in the sorta-right path."
"You are making absolutely no sense." He said flatly.
"I got you to feel guilty. That's a human emotion." I grinned.
". . .Shut up." He muttered.
I hopped off the bed, not feeling sick anymore.
"You need anything?" I asked.
"You to go away and let me sleep." He grumbled.
"On any other day I would refuse and bug you, but I'm feeling nice, so I'll let you sleep." I closed the door behind me, missing his disappointed look.
"Dammit. I was hoping you'd stay." He muttered.
I stayed home that day, going over things for class the next day. Ten minutes later, I was scribbling down notes (on a piece of paper, of course) on the wooden coffee-table I'd thrown together when the bedroom door opened. Envy stumbled out, pale and barely upright.
I jumped up, yelling for him to stop moving.
"I don't want you out here." He mumbled.
I paused, surprised. "What?"
"I said I don't want you out here." He said grumpily.
"Why not? Why do you care where I am?" I asked.
"It's cold in there." He shivered, changing the subject.
"No it's not, what-" I began.
"It is." He insisted.
"Well, what do you want me to do about it? I can't just make your bed catch on fire." I crossed my arms.
"Think carefully, you idiot Virtue. You can make it warmer." He stared at me.
My cheeks flamed.
"No. I am not sleeping with you." I crossed my arms over my chest.
Envy resisted the urge to facepalm. "You don't have to sleep, just lay there."
". . .Are you insane?"
"I've been called that before, yes."
"Well, you've just been called it again." I said flatly, then turned and went back to my papers.
Envy pouted, and I felt my resolve weakening.
Dang it.
"Please?"
"No. Are you begging?" I raised an eyebrow.
"No." He said forcefully.
"Uh-huh. Sure." I said sarcastically, going back to my papers.
"Don't make me do this." He growled.
"Do what-PUT ME DOWN! YOU ARE INJURED! ENVY!" I screamed as he picked me up.
"Urg." He stumbled, hitting my head against the wall and shutting me up for about two seconds as the room spun.
I had the sensation of falling, then it stopped as I hit something soft. Then I felt squished.
"Envy. . .get off, I can't breathe." I gasped.
He whimpered, trying to move, but cried out in pain and stopped.
I instantly felt sorry for him. "Hey, I got this. Don't move, 'kay?"
I instantly had a flashback to that tree root the other day. I cringed at the memory.
Not the best memory. Very humiliating.
I slid out from under him sideways, making him hiss in pain.
"Shh, it's okay." I soothed.
I rubbed his back, then flipped him over.
Envy let out a very colorful curse in pain that made my eyes widen.
"Nice vocabulary." I pulled the cover up over him.
"Never do that again." He growled.
"Alright, next time I'll give you a warning." I rolled my eyes.
"I don't trust you anymore." He grumbled.
"When did you ever?" I snickered, starting to leave.
"If you leave, I will hurt you." He threatened.
I stopped, looked at him over my shoulder, then started cracking up. "Yeah right, you can barely move without hurting."
"I swear I will." He tried to sit up.
"If you move anymore, Talia will hurt you more than I did." I walked back over.
Envy looked so pitiful, it was hard not to give in.
"It's cold~"
I sighed. "I'm such a pushover." I crawled in next to him.
Envy smirked, then abruptly began to laugh.
"What?" I asked.
"I'm ordering around a Virtue. Now Greed's going to be the one jealous." Envy stared up at the ceiling.
I rolled my eyes. "Ya ya, always competing with your brother."
The smile slid off his face, replaced with a familiar scowl.
"The stupid b****** always has everything. It's unfair."
"You do realize that you aren't completely envious anymore, right?"
"Yes." He growled.
I fell silent.
"He abandoned everyone. He's a lying, sneaky, little. . .argh." Envy strangled the air.
"Would this be a bad time to mention that he left?" I asked in a small voice.
"He did what!?" Envy yelled.
"Made his own little club." I sat up, looking down at him.
He looked furious. "He's done it again!?"
"Well, Claire's with him, so things aren't completely bad." I folded my legs, rested my elbows on the insides of my knees, then my face in my hands.
"What else have I missed!?" He demanded.
"Well. . ." I trailed off, hesitant.
"What. Did. You. Do." Envy growled.
"I didn't do anything!" I protested. "Sorta. . ."
"Just tell me, idiot." He sighed.
"Ialmostdrownedmyself." I said really fast.
Envy somehow understood what I said, because his face darkened.
"I thought you were stupid, but that is ridiculous."
"Says the one who died from suicide!" I protested.
Envy looked like he wanted to hit me. "Shut up." He growled.
"I'm so scared." I said sarcastically.
Envy tried to sit up; his face contorted in pain at every movement.
"You shouldn't-" I tried to protest, only for him to glare at me hatefully.
"Leave me alone." He pushed himself into a sitting position.
"I guess you could view every prick of pain as a person you killed. . ." I mused.
Envy groaned. "Whatever you do, do notkill yourself."
"Why?" I asked, taken by surprise.
"For one reason, I'll die," Duh. "And people will miss you."
I mulled that over.
"Nobody missed me." Envy muttered. "Lust was gone, Greed never cared, Father didn't need me. . ."
"What a horrible way to go." I said, sympathetic.
He stayed quiet.
"But. . .if you did die. . .right now. . .you would be missed." I picked at the sheet, refusing to meet his stunned gaze.
"Yeah? Like who?" He snorted.
"Me, for one." I mumbled.
"Yeah right." He rolled his eyes.
"No, really!" I protested.
He stared at me in contempt. "Really? Prove it."
I bit my lip. How to prove it?
The answer popped into my head.
And I didn't like it.
"You really want me to?" I asked.
"Yeah."
I took a deep breath, then leaned over and kissed him.
Filler chapter, but a cliffhanger at the same time!
Don't you hate them? Mwhuhahaha~
I realized why the first translation of the title was wrong. The current title is Angelus ad invidiam, which means To Envy an Angel. Angelus means Angel, ad is To, and invidiam is envy. Latin has no words for a, an or the.
No idea what's up with the first translation...
Anyways, to the reviews! Everyone gets cookies!:
vetty123: Aw, thanks! Ya, Greed is the first appearance, at the original Devil's Nest.
Ice Maiden Olivier: Writing Pride in history should be entertaining ;)
