A/N: Thank you to everyone who reviewed (:

By the way, the reason Alison is sort of going through a transition with her senses and her physique in general is because she's mostly human - only part vampire - and she only carries the wolf gene. And unlike Colby/Sarah, who are the grandchildren of one of the most powerful vampires, Edward, and a very gifted human, Bella, and the children of the true Alpha of the wolf pack, Jacob, her grandmother was the daughter of a normal vampire, with no special powers or abilities, and her grandfather wasn't a wolf, he was just human - only her father's a wolf, so she has weaker construction in comparison. Meaning, she was always a little vampire but it only started showing now because her wolf side also starts activating around puberty - slowly, but noticeably building up.

Also, she's mortal. Her mother's also mortal. The only reason Colby and Sarah are immortal is because they phase. But, that being said, no one was like them, so they could be immortal without phasing, still. No one can know, at this point, for sure.

I hope that explains it.

Oh and Bryce Cameron is Jared & Kim's son. He's only a couple of months older than Allie.

ALISON ANDERSON

The next day at 7AM, there was a complete Cullen convention at the Call's. Carlisle, Edward and Alice were the ones supposed to try to figure how my body works out, but Jasper, Emmett, Rosalie and Esme also joined in half because of their curiosity and half because they wanted to be there for Colby. It was obvious they were all very protective of him, even if he didn't need protection. They all wanted to make sure he was doing well with all of this.

To be honest, I was worried about him, too, but only slightly; he seemed to handle all the surprises pretty well. I didn't know if it was the imprinting that forced him to be so considerate and protective, and the thought that he might not want to do that otherwise stung a little, but I was grateful nevertheless. He was always within arm's reach and he always made sure I had everything I needed. It was getting a tad tedious but I couldn't really complain.

He sat next to me on the couch while everyone else was spread throughout the living room. I curled my legs beneath me and held onto a cushion. There it was. The verdict. They'd been researching my family history for God-knows-how-many hours, and it helped that they never slept. They'd been discussing all the possible scenarios and narrowing them down until they reached a somewhat plausible explanation at 1PM.

Carlisle pulled a chair and sat right in front of me. I knew he didn't need to sit so it was mostly for my comfort. Oh well. "From what we have gathered," he said, "Your family history is quite unique. All the hybrids we knew of, outside our family, only mated with other hybrids like themselves, or vampires. Your grandmother, however, chose a human. Even though you're mostly human, however, you're still part-vampire - but we think your human side has been suppressing that part of you to a great extent throughout your childhood, but now that you're growing up, it started to show - you're actually getting more powerful by the second.

The fact that your mother also went through a similar phase even though she didn't carry the wolf gene makes us think it's a lot stronger with you. Your wolf side strengthened that process - we don't think it will dull out after a while like it did with your mother." He looked at Colby. "That being said, we don't know if she'll have to phase. This might only be a very complex, very powerful growth spurt that just comes with heightened senses."

Colby's tense shoulders visibly relaxed. "So there's a chance she might not be phasing after all?"

"Even if she did, is that so bad?" Emmett said, "At least you'll both be immortal."

They all gave each other a meaningful glance and I looked at Colby silently. I expected him to be as angry as he was whenever the subject of my phasing was brought up, but instead, he looked pained. "I'll stop phasing at some point."

Everyone stared at him.

"Colby.." Esme breathed.

"This will kill Renesmee," Edward said, "You know it will. Do you remember how she was when she thought Sarah was going to be mortal?"

"I love Mom," he said, "I really do, and you all know that very well, but I will not wish my imprint a life full of danger and worry just because I want us to live forever - or you do. That's just selfish, and you should know that more than anyone else."

"But-" Rosalie was about to speak.

I cleared my throat. "Do I have any say in this?" They all stopped talking and looked at me with curious, golden eyes. Colby balled his hands into tight fists but didn't look my way. "You're all taking this a step too far," I said, "No one knows if I'll phase, no one knows if I'll even survive this 'growth spurt'-" I had heard them whisper it earlier "-Why don't we all just take this one step at a time and not worry unless we have to?" I said, "Or are you all just built to worry over every little detail all the damn time?"

"Thank you!" Jasper said.

Carlisle nodded. "She's right, we'll take it one day at a time, like we first did with Nessie, and see what happens."

Colby huffed - he was clearly not amused. I slid my hand on the couch to meet his, squeezing his giant fingers reassuringly. He looked at me with the corner of his eye, grimacing but seeming more relaxed. I turned my head to Carlisle. "What about what, errm," I didn't know how to phrase it,"Happened yesterday - when my back and my head felt like they were on fire - what was that about?

"It's probably just your vampire side taking lead," he said.

Edward interrupted him. "When each of us turned from human to vampire, we experienced days of burning-like sensation, similar to the one you experienced yesterday, but much more powerful, and it didn't stop until we were completely turned," he said, "From what you think of it, we think it's the same, but since you're not a full-blown vampire, it's weaker, and apparently, only temporary. It might happen again - we actually think this is why your eyes are golden," he said, "Because they went from golden to your normal color when your body was healing, but not turning, we think your eyes will only be golden like that temporarily, until the growth spurt, or whatever it is, is over."

Don't worry, Colby said in my head, it's only temporary, they think, and I'll always be here.

"Can't I, like, use painkillers to dull out the pain?"

"No," they all, except Colby, answered in one breath. "We tried that with Bella but it only took away her ability to scream or express her pain. The pain itself wasn't gone," Edward explained.

"Okay," I said in defeat. I noticed Colby was shaking, beneath my hand, ever-so-slightly.

"Alison," Carlisle said after a while, "You know we are all here for you - the whole wolf pack, too - but I have to ask, shouldn't your father be aware of this? Wouldn't you want him to be around? I understand you chose to live with him, isn't that correct?"

I sighed. I hadn't told Colby about the letter Dad had left me. As much as I loved Dad, I didn't really want to leave everything here and head to Canada. It wasn't just about Colby, I was warming up to a huge family of people who understood me and, apparently, also understood what I was. It was hard to leave all of that to live with my father and someone I didn't know - and far away for crying out loud. I was given a chance to choose my own path, for the first time, and I wasn't going to leave it just to live with Dad. It didn't seem worth it.

"Yeah, Allie," Colby said softly, "You should really involve your father in all of this."

I looked at Edward, knowing he knew exactly what happened with Dad. Please don't say anything. He briefly nodded. "What? Are you tired of me already?" I gave him the best smile I could manage.

He rolled his eyes. Soon enough, everyone was talking to each other and not paying attention to us. "What do you want to do today?" he asked.

"Actually," I said, "I need a ride to First Beach in about half an hour."

"Why?"

"I'm meeting up with a bunch of people there who are going to surf. I don't surf, but it would be fun to watch."

He turned his body as he sat down on the couch to face me. "What people? When did that happen?"

"Last night?" I said, "You guys were asleep and this Bryce dude dropped by and invited me to go surfing."

"..why would Bryce drop by and ask you-"

"Can you just drop me off or do I have to walk myself there?" I raised an eyebrow at him. "I am going either way. I haven't gone out in a million years and I don't really want to hang out with you all the time, Weirdo. It's too creepy."

He narrowed his eyes at me. "Fine."

Ha. Mary was right. I could ask Colby for just about anything I wanted. "I'll go change." I got up and was about to walk upstairs when Alice walked by my side.

"So," she said, obviously amused, "What are you going to wear?"

"Errm, I dunno.." I said, "I think Colby packed me a sundress somewhere.."

"That would have to do for now," she said, her face sad, "But we have to go shopping later," she ran her hands through my hair, "You have so much potential.."

Colby didn't let me out of the car until he recited the whole list of what to do if anything went wrong - calling him, or any member of the wolf pack (he actually gave me every single number of theirs). I was feeling pretty well and I wasn't going to stay there for more than an hour anyway - his instructions. Gee. It was like having another Dad only he was a lot bigger.

As soon as he left I looked for Bryce. He was already surfing when I got there, along with three other guys and a girl. "Hey!" I called out. He caught my eye for a second and smiled, getting out of the water, running towards me. His hair was tied in a tiny ponytail and the surfing gear really flattered his body. I had to admit, he was quite attractive. I smiled back at him.

"You made it!" he exclaimed.

"Yeah," I said, "I figured, for a serial killer, you'd be really dumb to ask me to come over to the least secluded area in the whole reservation."

He laughed. "Well I was planning to kidnap you with the help of my friends here," he said, "But where's the fun when you already know I'm a serial killer?" I liked him. "So, Alison-"

"Allie, call me Allie."

"Allie," he corrected, "Those are my friends and accomplices." He pointed at the others that were still surfing.

"You look like you surf a lot," I said, pushing a loose strand of hair behind my ear.

"We used to be a huge group," he said, "But a lot of the guys quit over the past year or so."

"Don't let me hold you back," I said, "I'll watch you guys from over here." I was about to make myself comfortable on the sand when he grabbed my arm.

"Nope, you're not just sitting here so you can miss out on all the fun," He pulled me towards the water. "C'mon." He was moving faster.

I was laughing so hard; I hadn't had any spontaneous, fun moments that weren't about grim issues in a long while. "Are you crazy? I don't have any other clothes here!" He just laughed. I kicked my sandals and threw the bag that had my phone away as he pulled me into the water. As soon as my feet touched the cold but comforting water I relaxed a little. I tried to pull my dress up as the water made its way to my knees. "Okay, okay! Enough!"

He didn't listen. Instead, he picked me up and ran inside until the water reached his chest. Before I could speak, a wave swallowed us both. He jumped a little to go with it but I was completely under water level and I hadn't swum a day in my life. I tried pushing myself up but I was too short to be able to do that. I waved my arms around a bit with no luck, until I felt an arm swoop me up and back on my feet. "You!" I pointed at Bryce, who was way too amused for his own good, "You're freakin' insane!"

"Hey, it's not my fault you basically drown in a cup of water," he said, "But wasn't that fun?"

"You don't know me!" I wanted to sound angry, but my smile probably gave me away, "We could both have very different definitions of fun, did it ever occur to you?"

He shrugged. "You just looked so tense," he said, "And worried. This is the perfect way to relax!" We walked a little out of the water. A little wind hit us and I shuddered and wrapped my arms around myself. He wrapped an arm around me and rubbed my arms and side. "We have extra towels." After we got back on the sand I picked up my bag and sandals and he lay down a towel for me and threw another one on my shoulders. "There you go."

"You know, for a jerk-face you can be quite considerate."

He sat down next to me, not bothering with a towel except when he dried his face. "For someone who was laughing the whole time you sure have an uptight attitude about it."

His friends got out of the water before I could reply. "Poor girl!" one of the boys exclaimed in a heavy British accent. He was darker than all of them - they all looked like everyone else on the reservation, except for him- with a clean-shaved head and an earring on one side. He also looked a couple of years older than all of us. "Hello," he said, looking at me. "I'm Duncan and I don't know any Bryce Cameron's." He held out his hand towards me.

I chuckled. "Hi, Duncan."

"And this is Anna," Bryce said, pointing at the girl who was drying her hair but shot me a 'Hi', "Takoda," he pointed at the one with the exceptionally long hair, "And Joseph."

"So you're the mystery girl," Joseph said, "We heard about you all day."

They all sat down in front of us. "I'm an exchange student from London. They're all natives. So what's your story?" Duncan asked, "What brings you to the glorious La Push?"

"I'm going to be living with my cousin for a while," I said, "She's married to a native."

"The Calls," Bryce said.

"Oh, I know them," Anna said, "I passed by their house earlier actually - there were a couple of really sick cars."

I didn't comment. "Do all of you go to school here?" They all nodded. "Aha, cool. I go to Forks Middle."

"Hey, Alison," Duncan said, "What time is it now?"

I got out my phone from my bag. "Two forty-five," I said.

"Ah, we have to go," He looked at Takoda and Anna, "Don't we?"

"You really do," Bryce agreed.

"Well, it was nice to meet you, Alison," Duncan said, standing up, along with Takoda and Anna, "We'll see you around." They walked away. There was a hint of some sun and it was getting a little warmer. I rested on my elbows and lay down a bit, absorbing the warmth.

We sat there in silence for a couple of minutes before Bryce spoke up. "So, Allie," he said, "Do you have a boyfriend, or something?"

I wanted to say something along the lines of, "If I had a boyfriend, why would I ditch him to come here?" but I didn't. Instead, I stuck with a simple, "Nope."

He decreased the distance between us. "Have you ever had a boyfriend?"

I smiled. "Maybe," I said, "Maybe not. Why do you care?"

"I thought," He came even closer to me, our faces only inches apart, "I could take you out sometime, for a movie, or something."

This was the first time any boy had asked me out and I actually wanted to say yes. He seemed like a great mixture of hot and crazy, and I needed a different type of crazy in my life right now. On some level, I felt guilty for wanting him, seeing Colby had imprinted on me, but I didn't think either of us felt that way about each other - not right now anyway. Maybe we would eventually be together, but for now, I wanted this. I wanted him.

I was about to speak when I heard the oh-so-familiar voice, the Alpha voice, call for me from a distance. "Alison!"

"Goddammit," I murmured and turned the other way and, sure enough, Colby was standing there. Amused as ever. Bryce slightly backed away. "Could you just give us a minute?"

"No," he said, "We have to go. C'mon."

I raised an eyebrow at him. "You know what, Bryce?" I was still looking at Colby. I handed Bryce my phone. "Why don't you save your number here and I'll text you later?"

"Okaay," he said. I turned to look at him to find him looking very confused and nervous. I guessed that was just Colby's huge, intimidating presence. He handed me back my phone and I stood up, gathering my stuff and slipping into my sandals. I waved at Bryce as we walked away and, as soon as we were out of hearing distance, I turned to Colby.

"You were listening the whole time, weren't you?" He didn't answer, he just smirked. "God! Stop being such a creep, Weirdo."

"You know you love it," Colby said. I narrowed my eyes at him.

This imprint wasn't going to be smooth.
