Chapter 41 :Size can matter
It was early in the morning on route 14 and the group was just south of Laverre city. The group had prepared breakfast for themselves and their pokemon.
"You know we could probably get to Laverre city today if we got moving soon " Red said.
"I guess we could, but we still need to finnish up our practice for the gym battle. Remember we haven't faced fairy types before" Ash said.
"True".
"Plus I still need to get some practice in before my tournament" Serena said.
"Are you going to use Zorua?" Bonnie said.
"Probably not, I haven't had a chance to train with him yet and I probably won't since he's with the professor. Which means I can't even get him in my party until we get to Laverre city".
"What about Spritzee?" Ash said.
"He's been training hard since I caught him, I think he's more than ready" Serena said. As the group ate , Pikachu and Lucario sat next to each other conversing.
"Pika Pikachu".
"Grauu".
Both were very excited that they were aura guardians, especially Lucario. Knowing they would be able to help people and pokemon in need anywhere they went.
"Pika pikachu".
"Grauu". As Noibat ate his food he looked at the other pokemon in the group. The Charizards, Pangoro, Tyrantrum, Delphox, and the Lucarios. So many pokemon had evolved, but not him. He let out a sigh , which some of the other pokemon noticed.
Pikachu came over to Noibat.
"Pika?".
"Noi".
"Chu". Pikachu said patting Noibat on the back trying to reassure him. After finishing breakfast , the group got up and got ready for some battle practice. On one end, Ash and Red stood a few feet apart. On the other end facing them were Korrina and Serena.
"Go Amaura!".
"Totodile I choose you!". Serena's Amaura came out and faced Ash's Totodile.
"Meinfoo go!" Korrina shouted as her Meinfoo came out and took a battle stance.
"Pangoro I choose" Red started before his Noibat came right out of his pokeball.
"Noibat?" Red said.
"Bat!" Noibat said full of determination.
"Ok I guess you want to battle. Alright why not, Noibat climb up high and use Steel wing" Red said.
"Meinfoo use Bounce with Jump kick". As Noibat flew up high and turned his wings Metal, Meinfoo hurled herself up and knocked Noibat's wings away before smashing her foot into Noibat's face.
"Noibat!" Red shouted as Noibat fell down a few feet before regaining his composure.
"Totodile use Watergun!".
"Amaura use Icebeam". Totodile opened his mouth and unleashed a jet of water at Amaura. As soon as he did, Amaura opened her mouth and unleashed a beam of ice that froze all of the water.
"Aurora beam!". Amaura's crystal glowed yellow before she opened her mouth and unleashed a yellow beam of aurora energy.
" Totodile Aqua tail, then duck and charge!" Totodile covered his tail in spinning water before smashing the ice hard enough to send a large chunk flying back at Amaura and striking her across the face.
As soon as he did he ducked down and ran forward, narrowly avoiding the Aurora beam before jumping up and smashing Amaura across the face with his tail.
"Great hit!" Ash said.
"Noibat keep low and use Steel wing".
"Bounce up and onto him, then use Drain punch". Noibat flew in low and turned his wings metal. At the same time, Meinfoo bounced up high and came down at Noibat. When she reached him, Meinfoo knocked his wings aside and came in for a punch.
"Air cutter!". Noibat had prepared himself, and unleashed a furry of quick strikes across Meinfoo's face before smashing his metal wings into her face, hurling her into the ground.
"Totodile use Aqua tail". Totodile sprinted forward with his tail covered in water.
"Amaura use Mist " Amaura let out a shroud of mist around her. After doing so , Amaura backed up and out of the mist as Totodile went into it.
"Ice beam!" Amaura unleashed a furry of ice into the mist hoping to hit Totodile. After a minute Totodile leapt up and out of the mist right in front of Amaura.
"Aurora beam on the ground!". Amaura blasted the ground with Aurora beam, causing large shards of ice that had collected on the ground to fly up and into Totodile, knocking him off balance. Amaura quickly took advantage of this and blasted Totodile.
"Great shot!".
"Meinfoo use swift !" Meinfoo whipped her hands forward and unleashed a furry of spikes stars at Noibat.
"Steel wing!". Noibat flew down with metal wings and deflected each of the stars.
"Meinfoo Bounce into Jump kick". Meinfoo bounced up and knocked away Noibat's wings. Just before Meinfoo could kick her, Noibat slashed her across the face with a furry of claw strikes.
Just before Noibat could smash Meinfoo with his wings, Meinfoo slammed her foot into Noibat's face. After the collision both pokemon were hurled back into the ground.
"Totodile use Slash".
"Amaura use Ancient power!".
"Use Aqua tail off those!". Totodile's tail turned to water as he used it to bounce off each of the rocks before reaching Amaura and slashing her across the face.
"Bite!" Totodile opened his mouth, but oddly enough his teeth grew ice on the end as he bit into Amaura.
"What?" Serena said.
"Hey I think he just learned Ice fang!" Ash said.
"Too bad that's not effective on Amaura" Serena said as Amaura shook Totodile off looking relatively unharmed. Just before Ash could call out another attack , Pikachu heard something in the distance with his enhanced hearing.
"Pika?" He said as he listened closer. Through their aura connection, Ash could tell that something was bothering Pikachu.
"Hey is everything alright buddy?" Ash said turning to Pikachu. A few moments later Noibat could also sense what Pikachu had and turned to where Pikachu was looking.
"What's wrong guys?" Red said. Not a moment later 2 Bellsprout and a Weepinbell came running out of the trees and bushes with a few berries in hand. The group noticed that the 3 pokemon were covered in cut marks and bruises.
"Woah what happened to those Bellsprout and Weepinbeell?" Clemont said.
"Bell!" The Weepinbell shouted.
"What did he say Pikachu?" Ash said. Pikachu gave a confused look before Ash realized the pokemon said "Run!". A few moments later 4 Spearow shout out from above the trees, flying very quickly at the 3 grass pokemon below.
"Spearow?" Red said.
"What's a Spearow?" Serena said opening her Pokedex.
"Spearow the tiny bird pokemon. Very protective of its territory, it flaps its short wings busily to dart around at high speed". The three Spearow flew down at the Bellsprout and Weepinbell, then began viscously attacking them with peck and furry attack.
"What are they doing!" Serena shouted.
"Sproud!".
"Bell!" The Pokemon cried in pain.
"No you don't , Pikachu Thunderbolt!" .
"Noibatt Air cutter!". Pikachu leapt down from Ash's shoulder with his cheeks sparking.
"Pika chu!" He shouted as he blasted two of the Spearow with electricity , knocking them out. Noibat flew forward as fast as he could and furiously slashed both Spearow across the face , knocking them out.
The group quickly rushed over to the 3 hurt grass pokemon as they struggled to get up.
"You poor pokemon, why would those Spearow attack you like that?" Serena said as she helped one of the Bellsprout up.
"Bellsprout" It said in a faint way. Korrina took a deep breath and put her right hand on the Bellsprout's head. Ash did the same with the Weepinbell as Red healed the other Bellsprout.
"Pika Pikachu".
"Noi" Noibat said.
"Weep".
"Sprout". After hearing what the Weepinbell and Bellsprout said, Noibat's nerves tightened. He was anxious to do something about it. Pikachu and him turned to their trainers and explained to them what the Weepinbell and Bellsprout said through their aura connections.
"Woah" Red said.
"What's wrong?" Serena said.
"Apparently those Spearow are part of a dangerous flock that's been terrorizing these woods and the pokemon in them" Ash said.
"Terrorizing them?" Clemont said.
"They've been pushing other pokemon out and away from areas to make room for them. They've been stealing berries and other food collected by other pokemon, and seriously hurting any pokemon that gets in their way" Red said.
"How horrible" Serena said.
"Why would they be doing that?" Korrina said.
"According to the Bellsprout , one day a few weeks ago a large and aggressive metal bird pokemon came in with all sorts of different flying types from all over kalos , then began rounding up all the flying pokemon into his flock. Ever since then he's been terrorizing this area with his flock" Ash said.
"A Metal bird pokemon?" Bonnie said.
"I wonder who it could be?" Korrina said. None in the group noticed as one of the Spearow regained consciousness and slowly got up.
"Squak!" It shouted as loud as it could before flying off.
"Hey there it goes" Red said as he watched the bird fly off.
"What did he just say?" Korrina said.
"Pika" Pikachu said nervously as he told Ash what he said.
"Pikachu said he called for help". A few moments later a massive group of different flying pokemon flew overhead. They were a mixture or Spearow, Pidgy, Fletchling, Zubat, and one massive bird pokemon made of metal.
"What is that?" Ash said opening his pokedex.
"Skarmory, the Armor Bird Pokémon. Because Skarmory nests in briers and is constantly scratched by thorns, its wings become razor sharp." The Bellsprout and Weepinbell all cowered behind Ash and the others when they saw the bird pokemon above them.
"That must be the metal bird they were talking about" Red said. Noibat looked up and saw the Skarmory. He looked into his eyes and gave him a very angry glare.
"Noi!". Noibat hated the idea of what Skarmory was doing. Being such a large and powerful pokemon, but using that size and power to bully other pokemon. He wouldn't let the Skarmory get away with it.
"Ska!" The Skarmory shrieked as 8 of his flying types flew down at the group.
"Pikachu Thunderbolt!". Pikachu leapt up and blasted 4 of them with electricity, knocking out 2 pidgy and two zubat.
"Amaura Ancient power".
"Meinfoo use swift!". Meinfoo unleashed a series of spiked stars at the incoming flying types, corralling them together before the massive rocks from Amaura's Ancient power flew up and knocked them out of the air.
"SKaa!" The Skarmory cried. Seeing an opening, Noibat hurled himself up and turned his wings metal as he flew at Skarmory.
"Noibat what are you doing?". Just before Noibat could reach Skarmory, the larger pokemon lurched back and smashed his Steel wings into Noibat, hurling him into the ground.
"Noibat are you ok?". Noibat got up and growled at the Skarmory. The Skarmory looked down at Noibat and gave a slight grin.
"Skaa!" He squawked before he flew down at Noibat with 2 zubat and 2 Spearow beside him.
"Noibat get Skarmory with Steel wing, but angle your pat".
"Pikachu don't let them gang up on Noibat. Use Thunderbolt". As Noibat flew up at an angle, Pikachu unleashed a furry of lightning, engulfing the three in electricity and knocking them out. As Noibat flew up towards Skamory, he came at an angle so that when Skarmory reached him, he would be able to easily move above Skarmory and strike him.
When the Skarmory reached Noibat , Red's plan seemed to have worked at first. Noibat was able to fly right over Skamory and smash him across the back and the head with his wings. Skarmory was knocked down a bit, but his strength and endurance were very impressive.
Skarmory flew right back around and faced Noibat head on.
"Noibat Steel wing with air cutter!" Red shouted. Noibat did his best to hold back Skarmory's steel wings with his own and slash the metal bird. But Skarmory was much stronger than Noibat. His sheer size allowed him to overpower Noibat and smash his wings across his face.
"Noibat!". Noibat managed to catch himself before smashing into the ground. He saw the Skarmory coming back down.
"Noibat fly in just below him". Noibat flew at Skarmory with incredible speed and burst forward at a angle just before he reached Skarmory.
"Bite!" Noibat latched his jaws onto Skarmory's right foot as Skarmory tried to shake him off.
"Air cutter on his stomach". Noibat furiously slashed the underside of Skarmory's stomach.
"Skaa!" Skarmory Shrieked calling a few of his Fletchling to come and help him.
"No you don't! Amaura use Icebeam!" Amaura opened her mouth and unleashed a powerful beam of ice that hit and knocked one of the Fletchling out of the sky.
"Totodile water gun!". Totodile opened his mouth and blasted the other Fletchling that was flying towards the Skarmory.
"Skaa!" Skarmory shouted as he shook himself forward repeatedly. Noibat tried to hold on as best he could, but Skamory's sheer size made too much momentum and he was hurled forward.
As soon as Skarmory was in front of Noibat he unleashed a furry of strikes with his Steel wings.
"Noibat!".
"Noi!" Noibat cried before he fell down towards the ground. Before he could, the Skarmory flew down and caught Noibat in his talons.
"What?" Red said. The Skarmory let out a loud shriek before flying away with all of his flying types.
"Noibat!" Red shouted.
"Pikachu Thunderbolt!".
"Pika chu!" Pikachu shouted as he unleashed a powerful blast of electricity at the Skarmory, unfortunately the large metal bird was moving too fast and escaped the attack.
"No!" Red shouted as he tried to run after them.
" Red stop , you'll never catch them on foot!" Ash said.
"That's it! Go Charizard!" Red's Charizard came out and roared.
"Charizard a Skarmory kidnapped Noibat!" Red shouted as he got on Charizard's back. Charizard hurled himself into the air and flew in the direction of the Skarmory. When some of the birds saw Charizard coming after them they turned around and flew at him.
When Red and Charizard saw this, they readied themselves. As soon as a few of them were in range, Charizard opened his mouth and unleashed a massive jet of fire , engulfing three of them in fire and knocked them out. The last two, a Pidgeoto and Fearow quickly moved out of the fire's path.
The Fearow then came in from above Charizard while the Pidgeoto came in from below. Using his amazing reflexes, Charizard slashed the Fearow with Dragon claws just before smashing the Pidgeoto with Steel wing. After the two pokemon were knocked out, Charizard and Red looked around but the Skarmory was gone.
"No! He got away!". Charizard and Red both gave very sad expressions before flying back down towards the others.
"Red what happened?" Korrina said.
"He's gone, Skarmory got away with Noibat".
"Oh no" Ash said.
"Poor Noibat" Serena said.
"I can't believe I let Skarmory just take Noibat like that. I failed him" Red said.
"Red it's going to be ok" Korrina said as she came over and put her arms on his shoulders.
"You have an open aura connection with him right?" Korrina said.
"Of course".
"Then you can just track him through his aura".
"That's right!" Red said full of excitement. He took a deep breath and read the aura around him. After a minute he found Noibat's aura a few miles away.
"I found him! He's a few miles north".
"We can get there faster if we fly instead of walking" Ash said.
"Good idea, Korrina you can fly with me" Red said.
"Serena can ride with me" Ash said.
"What about us?" Clemont said.
"I guess you could ride Aero" Red said as he let Aero out of his pokeball.
"Aero?" Clemont said as Aero gave him a devious look.
"Yay!" Bonnie said. Elsewhere , Noibat awoke in a grove surrounded with trees. All around him were dozens of flying type pokemon in the air , on the ground, and in the trees.
"Noi?". As he noticed that he had been tied to a tree with a series of vines.
"Skaa" Noibat heard as he turned around and saw the Skarmory with a pair of Fearow standing in front of him.
"Noi!" he shouted thrashing, trying to get out.
"Skaa" Skarmory said smiling. The Skarmory had told Noibat that he was part of their flock and he would do as he said.
"Noi!" Noibat said refusing.
"Ska" Skarmory said telling Noibat that he was a trained pokemon commander.
"Noi?" Noibat said. According to the Skarmory, he had once belonged to the Kalos army. But escaped during a training exercise. After that he began rounding up every flying type he could find into a flock.
"Noi!" Noibat said in outrage. He wanted to know why Skarmory was seizing all the food and bullying the other pokemon in the forest.
"Skaa" Skarmory said. He explained how he and his flock had claimed the area as their own. Thus every bit of food in the area belonged to them, and that every pokemon living there was trespassing in their land, thus they were defending what was theirs.
"Noi!" Noibat said saying that Skarmory couldn't just take the land and claim it as his own. That the other pokemon had lived their their entire life and called their home.
"Skaa!" Skarmory said. He claimed that he had the size and the power to take the land and thus it was his.
Hearing that made Noibat feel very bad. In his fight against Skarmory , despite being the more skilled fighter thanks to Red's training. The Skarmory's size and power had been enough to defeat him. If he had been big and powerful like Charizard or Tyrantrum, he could have won. Why couldn't he just evolve, he had been training and battling for so long. Why couldn't he just do it already.
"Skaa" Skarmory said. He told Noibat that eventually he'd come to his senses and accept that he was part of the flock. Noibat slowly lifted his head up, he tried to reach out to Red.
Elsewhere in the air, the group was flying towards the flock. Clemont was holding onto Aero's neck as hard as he could, having never flown like this before.
"This is so much fun!" Bonnie said.
"Bonnie please don't" Clemont said shaking.
"So how close are we Red" Ash said. Red continued to use his aura connection to Noibat to track him. Red was troubled when he felt Noibat's aura felt weak, like he had low confidence or self strength.
"We're getting closer, but Noibat's aura is getting weaker. We need to hurry" Red said.
"Finding and rescuing Noibat isn't the only thing we need to do. That Skarmory and his flock need to be stopped. They're terrorizing the innocent pokemon of this area, as aura guardians it's our duty to stop them" Korrina said.
"She's right, we can't let this go on" Ash said. A few moments later, the group could hear a series of painful cries coming from below.
"What's that?" Serena said. Ash, Red, and Korrina used their aura vision to see what was going on below them. Apparently, there was a group of flying type pokemon attacking a few Bellsprout, Goomy, and Shelmet.
"Those pokemon are being attacked!" Serena shouted.
"We have to do something?" Ash said.
"But what about Noibat?" Red said. Red certainly didn't want to leave those pokemon to a horrible fate, but at the same time he had to rescue his Noibat.
"Red, you and Korrina keep going. The rest of us can help those pokemon" Ash said.
"Really" Red said.
"Go save your Noibat" Serena said.
"Let's go, Aero stay here and help those pokemon" Red said as his Charizard flew forward even faster.
"Charizard we need to get down there and help those pokemon" Ash said. Charizard nodded and roared as he flew down towards the pokemon with Aero close behind. As a pair of Zubat came in for another Wing attack on a Bellsprout, they heard Charizard's piercing roar and looked up.
Not a moment later they were engulfed in flames and knocked out. The other wild pokemon turned and saw the group landing on the ground.
"Delphox go!".
"Magnaton, time to help out!". Delphox and Magnaton came out and faced the flying types above them. The other Bellsprout, Goomy, and Shelmet saw the group's pokemon and didn't know what to think.
"Delphox use Fire spin".
"Charizard Flamethrower!". Delphox and Charizard stood next to each other and waited until some of the flying types pokemon started coming at them. Delphox waved her wand around in the air and unleashed a spinning column of fire at the incoming birds. The fire spin hit and knocked out a few of them and corralled the rest inside.
When Charizard saw this he unleashed Flamethrower engulfing the rest of them.
A few Zubat and Fletchling adjusted their paths and flew around Charizard and Delphox, around the back of the group.
"Pikachu , don't let them go around us. Use Electroball".
"Magnaton use Sonicboom" Clemont said.
"Pika chu!" Pikachu said as he hurled his tail forward and unleashed a ball of electricity at two of the Zubat. At the same time Magnaton unleashed a furry of charged electrical bursts at the two Fletchling.
The Electroball exploded around the Zubat, engulfing them in electricity. Meanwhile, the sonic booms exploded around the Fletchling, knocking them out. The last two pokemon, a Fearow and Golbat flew up and high above the group.
Just before they could come down at them, Aero revealed himself directly in front of them. He smiled as he revealed he had used Ancient power and carried several large rocks with him.
He hurled the rocks into the two pokemon and then smashed them with Steel wing , hurling them into the ground unconscious.
"Well that takes care of them" Serena said relieved. Pikachu, Charizard, and Delphox walked over to the hurt wild pokemon who were still very scared.
"Pika pikachu".
"Phox".
"Graww". The three explained to the wild pokemon that they were there to help them and stop the flock.
"Spout" One of the Bellsprout said in relief. Ash walked over and started using his aura to heal the pokemon one at a time.
"I'm glad we were able to help these pokemon, but I hope Red and Korrina are ok" Clemont said. Elsewhere, Noibat was still tied to a tree with the Skarmory in front of him. Sitting in front of him was a large pile of fruit and berries. Noibat hadn't eaten since breakfast and was getting very hungry.
"Skaa" Skarmory said. He claimed that all members of his flock were well fed and looked out for, and that all he had to do if join the flock and he could eat all he wanted.
"Noi!" Noibat said refusing. Skarmory shook his head as he used his talons to toss a piece of fruit over to the Fearow on his left and his right. The two birds began eating as Noibat heard his stomach growl and sighed. He looked up at the sky and tried to find Red through their aura connection. When he looked again he found something very encouraging. Red's aura was getting closer.
Skarmory noticed how Noibat's optimism seemed to have raised.
"Skaa?" Skarmory said. Wondering why Noibat seemed to optimistic. Noibat quickly tried to come up with something.
"Noi" Noibat said. He told the Skarmory that pokemon like him always lose in the end. It wasn't a moment later that Noibat's stomach growled again.
"Noi" Noibat said in hunger.
"Feara" One of the Fearow said to the Skarmory.
"Skaa". Noibat was so hungry that he didn't pay attention to what they had been saying. The Skarmory slowly turned and picked up a piece of fruit with his talon and held it close enough for Noibat to eat it.
"Noi?" Noibat said, confused at why the Skarmory was doing this.
"Skaa" Skarmory said. He told Noibat that eventually he'd come to his senses and join the flock, but he couldn't let him starve before then. Noibat was surprised that the Skarmory was doing this. Nevertheless he quickly ate every bite of the fruit as quickly as he could, savoring every bit.
Elsewhere in the sky, Red and Korrina were flying closer to Noibat's aura. As they flew, Korrina could feel Red's anxiety through their aura connection. She could understand why, one of his pokemon had been kidnapped by a savage group of pokemon. She would be just as anxious if she was in his position.
"Hey Red, how are you holding up?".
"Huh, oh fine. Once we rescue Noibat everything will be ok".
"Good just remember that".
"Hey Korrina, have you noticed that Noibat seemed a little down this morning?".
"I suppose he did seem a little down when eating breakfast this morning now that you mention it".
"I was pretty sure I felt this through his aura, his confidence in himself has been down lately. It's probably why he wanted to battle against your Meinfoo and that Skarmory so badly. He wanted to prove himself".
"You know Red it could be about his size".
"What do you mean?".
"Well you've had him for quite some time now and he still hasn't evolved into Noivern. Plus he's seen both Charizards, Tyrantrum, Lucario, Delphox, and Pangoro evolve. It could be he feels like he hasn't met his true potential".
"You could be right. When we rescue him I'll have to reassure him that he'll evolve when the time is right, and that just because he hasn't evolved yet, it doesn't make him less skilled as a pokemon". A few minutes later Red could feel Noibat's aura was very close.
"We're almost there" Red said. Charizard looked down and saw a patch of partly open land with some trees here and there. All around the area were dozens of different flying type pokemon.
"There it is! Alright Charizard, we have to make this quick. I want you to dive in and breath fire to keep them away from us. I'll rush over, free Noibat and then we'll get out and regroup with the others".
"Graww" Charizard said nodding. Back on the ground, Noibat was still facing the Skarmory.
"Noi?" Noibat said. He wanted to know why he wanted him in his flock so badly.
"SKaa" Skarmory said. He told Noibat that he was impressed with his battling skills when they had their first battle. A pokemon like him could be useful to him.
"Noi" Noibat said. Still refusing to become part of the flock.
"Skaa!" Skarmory said. He claimed that he would join the flock, and that he would never let him go until he agreed. It was then that Noibat felt Red's aura was very close. He looked up and saw Charizard flying towards him.
"Noi!" He said in excitement. Skarmory looked up and saw a massive Charizard unleashing fire all around him. Several of the birds and bats were knocked out , while others quickly backed away from the fire. It was then Skarmory realized the Charizard was coming right at him!
Skarmory leapt up and flew out of the way just in time to avoid Charizard's Dragon claws. His Fearow weren't so lucky, they were both slashed across the face and knocked out. As soon as Charizard landed on the ground , Red sprinted over to Noibat.
"Noibat there you are!" Red said as he reached Noibat and cut him free using his wristblades.
"Come on let's go!" Red shouted as he and Noibat rushed towards Charizard. However, the entire flock quickly surrounded them despite Charizard's fire.
"Oh no, we're trapped!" Korrina said.
"Skaa!" Skarmory shouted at them. Charizard and Noibat both told Red what the Skarmory had told them.
"Oh no" Red said.
"What?" Korrina said.
"The Skarmory said he'll never let us leave with Noibat".
"Noi!" Noibat shouted as he flew up towards the Skarmory.
"Noi! Noibat!".
"Skaa!" Skarmory said in an interested tone. Apparently Noibat had formally challenged Skarmory in a one on one battle. If he won, then Skarmory would let them go. But if Skarmory one, then he would join the Flock without a fuss.
"What!? Noibat I'm not letting you join that flock!" Red shouted.
"Noi! Noibat" Noibat said. He claimed that this was something he had to do. He had to prove himself.
"Noibat we'll figure another way out of this. You don't have to prove yourself, I know you're an amazing pokemon. That's what matters most, do you understand me". Noibat's eyes began to tear up , he knew how much Red cared about him. But he was wrong, this was something he had to do. Noibat shook his head and turned to face Skarmory.
"Oh no" Korrina said as Charizard gave an equally concerned expression.
"Alright Noibat if you're going to do this at least let me help you".
"Noi!" Noibat said nodding.
"Skaa!" Skarmory shouted as he soared forward towards Noibat.
"Noibat Fly underneath him, then re-angle your wings". Noibat flew at Skarmory from a lower angle. Skarmory tried to slash Noibat, but Noibat was able to quickly move under him. Once he had, Noibat re-angled his wings allowing him to soar upwards and back until he was directly over Skarmory.
"Steel wing!" Noibat smashed his wings into Skarmory's back and forced him to fall. Unfortunately, Skarmory was able to re-angle his own wings and use his size to force Noibat off him. Once he had he turned around and smashed his own wings into Noibat. Hurling the smaller bat pokemon into the ground.
"That's not good" Korrina said.
"It's ok Noibat we're still in the fight" Red said as Noibat got up.
"Ska!" Skarmory shrieked as he flew down using Agility to move from one place to another with incredible speed.
"Noibat fly straight up!". Just before Skarmory could reach Noibat, the smaller bat pokemon flew straight up narrowly avoiding his opponent.
"Air cutter, move after every strike". Noibat came back down and furiously slashed at Skarmory with everything he had. Each time he landed a hit on the metal bird he moved and avoided each of Skarmory's counter strikes.
"It's working!" Red said. Just as Noibat began to move , Skarmory saw the direction he was going in and made a guess where he would land. Skarmory hurled his left claw in that direction and smashed it into Noibat. Noibat was hurled into the ground. Before he could get up, Skarmory hurled himself onto Noibat and furiously began smashing his wings into Noibat.
"Noibat!" Red cried.
"Oh no" Korrina said.
"Graww" Charizard said in concern. Noibat was completely pinned to the ground, unable to move. All Red could do was sit there and watch his pokemon get beaten senselessly before being forced to leave him. Red felt one of his eyes tear up before he remembered what Felix always told them.
"Never give up until the end". Red raised his head and turned to Noibat.
"Never give up until the end" He heard from Red. Knowing Red was there and behind him all the way gave Noibat a burst of strength and determination. He forced his own Metal wings up and caught Skarmory's wings.
"Skaa?" Skarmory said in confusion.
"Noi bat!" Noibat shouted as he hurled his wings forward and smashed them into Skarmory, making him stumble backwards. Noibat quickly got up and smashed his wings into Skarmory again hurling him backwards.
"You did it!" Red said very relieved.
"That was close" Korrina said as Charizard nodded. As Noibat flew into the air he began glowing white and growing larger.
"Noibat are you?" Red started.
"He is" Korrina said. Skarmory got up just in time to see Noibat finnish evolving.
"Gruaa!" Noivern roared. Noivern had masssive ears suited for precise hearing. He had a mane of white fur sprouting around his neck and upper back. Noivern had two black wings lined with a dusky purple and had maroon grasping claws. A teal membrane fans between his ribcage and wings. When his mouth opened, two pointed teeth could be seen on his lower jaw.
"Alright Noibat evolved!" Red shouted. Noivern roared again even louder, sounding very pleased that he evolved. Skarmory now looked a bit shaken as he was no longer the larger pokemon in the fight. Many of the other bird pokemon also noticed this and began whispering things to each other.
"Alright we've got the advantage now, maul him with Steel wing". Noivern snarled as he flew in and met Skarmory head on. Skarmory tried to fly away, but Noivern was too fast. Noivern smashed his metal wings into Skarmory, hurling him back .
"Air cutter!" Before Skarmory could even recover Noivern flew over and furiously slashed him all over his body.
"He's got it!" Korrina shouted as she saw Skarmory struggle to stay in the air.
"Noivern finnish him with Dragon Pulse". Noivern gathered his dragon energy and opened his mouth before unleashing a wave of dragon energy that flew across the air and hit Skarmory dead in the center of his chest, hurling him back.
"Now it's time to end this Skarmory's rein of terror. Pokeball go!" Red shouted as he hurled a pokeball forward. The pokeball hit Skarmory on the head and sent him inside.
"What?" Korrina said as Charizard and Noivern gave equally confused expressions. After a minute the pokeball sparkled and stopped shaking.
"Alright I caught him!" Red said. A few moments later the pokeball turned white and transported itself to Sycamore's lab.
Noivern roared in victory , knowing he had overcome and beaten Skarmory.
"Noivern you did it, I'm so proud of you" Red said as he ran over and hugged Noivern. Noivern wrapped his massive arms around Red and lifted him up into the air. Korrina and Charizard came over.
"Congratulations you to two".
"Graww" Charizard said nodding.
"Why did you catch that Skarmory?".
"I figured that he was the ringleader, and that If i got rid of him it would end all the violence" Red said.
"Good idea" Korrina said. Moments later all of the flying type pokemon came around Noivern and began saying something.
"What are they saying?" Korrina said. Charizard and Noivern were amazed when they heard what the pokemon were saying. Noivern told Red that the flock was amazed that Noivern beat Skarmory. They apparently wanted him to be the new flock leader.
"What?" Red said.
"Red what's going on?" Korrina said before she heard Red through an aura message.
"Wait they want Noivern to be their flock leader. That's amazing" Korrina said.
"Noivern can't be their flock leader, he's my pokemon" Red said before he saw Noivern looking out at the flock in a way he had never seen him before. Red could tell through their aura connection that Noivern felt honored hearing this, like he had really accomplished something.
Red started to think, if this was something his Noivern really wanted to do, could he really just tell him he couldn't. This was an opportunity for him like none other, not only that but it was a good way to make sure the flock didn't do anything bad. But it would also mean that he would have to say goodbye to Noivern for who knows how long.
Korrina and Charizard could feel Red's pain as he walked up next to Noivern.
"Noivern, if you really want to. I think you should lead this flock. I know it means we won't see each other for a long time. But if it's what you want I think you should do it" Red said as he began to tear up. When Korrina and Charizard heard this, they felt almost as bad.
Noivern looked back at the flock and started to think. This was quite an opportunity for him, to get to lead a flock and watch over them as a Noivern. But in doing so he would have to leave Red and the rest of the family he had grown to love so much.
"Grouu!" Noivern roared at the top of his lungs. The flock then broke up with the flying pokemon all going their own ways as they flew off. Noivern had apparently told the pokemon that as his first act as alpha was to disband the flock and for them all to return to where they came from.
"You want to stay with us" Red said.
"Grouu" Noivern said saying that they were family and that he couldn't leave his family. Red was touched by this and hugged Noivern. Red and Korrina were also touched by this and joined in the group hug. A few minutes later they were both in the air flying back towards the others. Korrina was on Charizard and Red on Noivern for the first time.
"So I guess we'll have a lot to tell the others when we get back" Korrina said.
"I guess so, I can't wait to show them Noivern" Red said as they continued ownward.
