A/N: Thank you for the reviews :-)
Just to be clear: Alison hasn't phased. She's getting the tattoo as a nice gesture from the tribe - a welcoming one. A couple of other imprints also have it.
COLBY THOMAS BLACK
The wolf that stood before us was as big as any wolf in our pack, but as Alison had described him before, he looked very old. He probably spent a lot of years in his wolf form, causing this form to age considerably. I crouched in front of Allie protectively, not wanting to phase, knowing we probably wouldn't be able to hear each other, unless he was the Alpha of another pack, and I wasn't going to take chances right now.
He looked at Alison and growled. I was starting to shake a little, trying to maintain my temper. I called for Sarah mentally, telling her to gather some guys and patrol around the perimeter of our location in case he had company. What do you want? I projected into his head.
He narrowed his eyes at me, circling around us, turning his attention to Alison again. When he moved, I could see what she meant by saying he looked a lot like her dad in his wolf form, but he wasn't her father; her father was a tiny shade lighter than this wolf, and didn't look nearly as old. I could hear her heart racing as she clutched to my arm. Don't worry, I told her, I'm stronger in my current form as he is in his wolf form, and you can take away his strength for yourself any time you want, he won't hurt you.
Who was this wolf? What did he want from Alison? Where was his vampire companion?
Before I could tell him to phase back so we could talk, he lunged at Allie. I jumped and caught him mid-air, pinning him down to the ground. The shaking that was slight a few moments ago roared within me and I phased. As expected, I didn't hear his voice in my head. Goddammit.
Is Alison okay? Sarah asked.
Yeah, but I think someone should - before I could finish my thought, I found myself being pulled away from the wolf by a very angry-looking Alison. Her eyes were fixed on him as she clutched her hands into tight fists.
"I know who you are!" she said, walking towards him. I stood next to her, ready to pounce in case either of them decided to get violent. I knew she could take him, but, for one, I couldn't stand there and take the risk, and for another, her head was still a weak spot. "Why are you chasing me around, ha? Why can't you just let me be, dammit?" I was confused. Who did she think he was? "What, you killed one kid of yours and now it's time to move to your grandkids?" her tone was deadly. Grandkids? Was that her grandfather? Old Quil's brother? Bidziil Ateara?
The wolf growled loudly at that, confirming her thoughts. "Wait, was it two kids of yours?" she tilted her head, "Did you kill Dad as well?" With that, he pounced. I caught him again and Sarah and Paul joined me. Allie stepped back silently. He writhed against our grips.
Should we bring him to Old Quil? Paul asked. Why can't we hear him?
He's probably part of another pack, Sarah said, We can't let him go. He needs to phase back so we can figure out what he wants.
I don't think he can do that anymore, I said, Look at him. He must've been like that for at least two or three years.
"I've never even seen you! All those years, Dad told me you were dead," she said from behind us, "What have I ever done to you? Jesus."
We need Edward, I said, Someone get him from the mansion.
Luckily, Randy was phased minutes away from the mansion. We kept him trapped between us, Allie a safe distance behind. I was afraid she would be depressed or scared, but the vibe I got from her was just anger. Pure, raw anger. If she was ever going to phase, she would have by now, judging by her stance and her hisses. A part of me was proud of her.
Edward arrived mere minutes later and stood next to Allie. They looked at each other for a while, and I assumed they were interacting mentally, using both their gifts alternatively. He turned his head to the wolf. "What do you want?"
Edward listened for a while. "I want her," he said, speaking the wolf's thoughts.
"Are you Bidziil Ateara?"
"I used to go by that name."
"Why do you want Alison?"
"She's dangerous."
Alison hissed, pushing past Sarah to stand right in front of him. I growled, inching towards her. "Even if I was," she said, "How's that any of your fucking business?"
The wolf glanced at all of us, staying still. "Your evil cost me my son."
Her eyes widened and she took a step back. I could hear her heart lose its pace for a second. "How?"
"I knew of your mother's origins. I warned him when you were born, but he chose to keep you. Because of you, he phased again, over and over. Then they found out about you, and he got in the way. I have to take you to them."
"They? Who are they?" she asked.
"Your ancestors, your family."
She took a step forward and without warning, kicked him so hard he actually flew off the ground and was knocked down. "You fucker took my family from me!" she yelled. I crouched in front of her in wolf form. "You're the reason he always thought of me as a mistake! You're the reason he got a divorce when Mom got pregnant again!"
Feisty as fuck, Paul said, I can see why you called her a mini me, kid.
Why's he so still? Sarah asked.
"He's confused. He never knew about the other pregnancy," Edward said.
The wolf got up and turned the other way, running off. Our instinct was to run after him, but Edward said it would be better to let him go; his presence was of no benefit to us, and killing him would be both against our tribal laws and, well, common sense. We needed more information, we didn't need another Frederick incident.
I turned around and saw Allie's frightening face - her eyes were pitch black, narrow, her stance offensive, looking at the wolf's trail. She punched a tree in frustration, her fist leaving a visible dent. I approached her slowly. You're safe, none of us will let anyone take you or hurt you, Allie.
"Do you think I don't freakin' know that already?!" she yelled, closing her eyes, taking a deep breath. "I'm not worried about my safety, Colby," she said, "Whoever's looking for me isn't exactly looking for a family reunion with the freak, though. They want something from me - but what?"
I don't know, we'll figure it out.
She sighed, leaning her head on mine, going through my fur for a second before she turned around and hopped on my back, clutching to my neck. "Whatever, let's go get my tattoo done already so we could go home," she breathed, "Edward, thank you."
ALISON ANDERSON
Rosalie helped me braid my now-medium-length hair so it covered the lighter spot on my head where my surgery was. Emmett was sitting across the room, watching TV. I wore a gray sleeveless top tucked into a pink mini skirt, showing off both my tribal tattoo on the top of my arm and the Cullen crest that I also had tattooed next to it. It had only been a couple of weeks since we met the wolf, but the Cullens and the Blacks - as well as everyone I knew from the tribe, my tribe - were more than a family to me. I belonged with them, both. I actually belonged.
"Remember," Rosalie said, "Egypt's great and all, but don't wander off," she said, "You can handle yourself fine, I know, but Colby gets super worried and he's already-"
"I know," I breathed. She smiled.
"How come the Egyptian kid gets to train you first?" Emmett whined.
"Well," I said, "There's no one else except us here, and I still have a while before he has to pick me up, why don't we give it a try outside?"
"No! Emmett!" Rosalie said.
"You're on!" he said and we both grinned. Rosalie sighed but let us be. We ran out the mansion and he crouched, about 50 feet away, cracking his knuckles. "Ready?"
Before I could say anything, he lunged at me. I focused on wanting to push him away. I could feel myself getting stronger and I managed to get a grip on his arm and turn him around, wrapping an arm around his neck. He turned around and flipped me so I almost hit the ground, but he didn't let me go. He held me the same way I'd held him earlier. I could feel his strength slip from me and I struggled to keep it in order to escape his stone-like grip around my neck and waist. I only got half-way through pushing his arm off of my waist when I heard someone pull into the driveway and I lost my focus completely, my breath getting knocked out of me when his arm collided with my chest as soon as I stopped resisting. "Ow!"
"Shit," he said, turning me around, "Did you get hurt?"
I huffed in frustration. I was trying all week to stay concentrated on using my gift for more than three seconds against the other person's will but couldn't. Not only did my concentration fall down the drain, as soon as anything, no matter how slight, distracted me, everything slipped away - the same way it did right now. "I'm fine," I said, "Just, don't tell anyone about this, okay?"
"Don't tell anyone about what?" Jasper said, walking in with Alice. They all came back from their trip to PA - all the Cullens were there, sans the Blacks. "The part about your private session with Emmett or the part where he almost crushed you to pieces?"
"I saw you two," Alice explained.
I rolled my eyes, straightening my top. "Whatever," I mumbled, "I'll never get any better at this with all of you being overprotective asses the entire time."
Edward snorted from inside the mansion. Bella spoke. "It's part of the deal, honey. Welcome to the Olympic coven."
Emmett poked around the part his arm collided with me. It stung like a bitch. "Ouch! Watch it!"
"Man, it bruised," he said, his tone beyond amused. "Colby's gonna flip when he sees this." I could feel my cheeks darken.
Rosalie was by his side in a whiff, punching him. "Emmett!"
"Lighten up, Ice Queen." He kissed her briefly.
By that time, Edward, Bella, Carlisle and Esme stepped out of the mansion and lined up with the others. "Colby's going to be here in a minute," Carlisle said, "Take care of yourself there."
"Yeah, the Egyptian coven are not vegetarians - far from it - and your blood is not nearly as repulsive as Colby's," Edward said.
"Focus on your training, don't let anything distract you," Jasper added.
"Always wear cotton - always. It's 104 degrees there these days, on average," Alice said, "And cotton never goes out of style."
Esme stepped forward and kissed the top of my head. "We've packed enough animal blood for you. You'll be surrounded by new scents - some seemingly more delicious than others, but try to stay in control, sweetie."
I smiled and hugged her, hearing Colby's Royce screech to a stop. I waved at everyone else, but stopped to hug Emmett especially, before running to the car, sliding in. We were all packed and ready. He kissed my lips. "Ready to flee the continent?"
"Always."
