Chapter 48: A birthday double battle
Another two days had passed since the group had gotten out of the harsh blizzards of Route 17. It was late at night and the group was only a few miles away from Anistar city eating dinner around the fire.
"Just a few more miles and we're at Anistar city, we should be able to get there by tomorrow morning if we leave early" Ash said.
"Two gym battles and a battle Chateau. The next few days should be very interesting" Korrina said.
"So Serena how close are you to becoming a Marchioness?" Ash said.
"I got still got some points from my last tournament, but I still need a few victories before I can made it to Marchioness".
"Are you going to use Zorua?" Red said. Serena looked over at Zorua who was sitting beside her.
"I'll be using him first".
"You two have been training very hard since your last tournament, I think you guys are more than ready" Ash said.
"Korrina will you be competing in this tournament too?" Clemont asked.
"The last tournament was fun, but I think I'm going to sit this one out", "I won't have to put on all those ridiculous cloths" Korrina thought to herself.
"What about the gym leader? What's she like?" Bonnie said.
"Her name's Olympia and she's a Psychic type trainer" Clemont said.
"Right, Psychic type this should be interesting" Ash said.
"From what I hear she's a very impressive gym leader. She's said to have mastered the way of Psychic type pokemon." Clemont said
"Eh she's nothing special" Korrina said in an condescending tone as she turned her head away.
"You have something against her?" Red said turning to her.
"You could say that" Korrina said.
"What happened?". Korrina took a deep breath then turned her head back.
"It was a few days after I was named gym leader of Shalour city. A few other gym leaders came over to induct me, she was among them. You weren't though" Korrina said turning to Clemont.
"Uh well, I was sort of busy" Clemont said sweat dropping.
"Anyway , after I started talking about how much I admire fighting type pokemon she gave us all a whole lecture on how reckless and predictable fighting type pokemon are compared to Psychic types. After that I was naturally offended and challenged her to a pokemon battle. But she refused to battle me unless it was a double battle. My Lucario was still plenty strong then but my Machoke was only a Machop and was easily knocked out. Lucario battled with everything he had, but he couldn't beat two Psychic pokemon".
"I'm guessing she's looked down on you as a gym leader ever since" Serena said.
"You'd guess right, every time i've met her she hasn't let me forget how poor of a gym leader I am and how bad fighting types are compared to Psychic types".
"That's not very nice, I would have expected better from a gym leader" Red said.
"She's only like that with me, she treats the other gym leaders fine" Korrina said.
"Well every time I've met up with her she has been very pleasant to be around" Clemont said before everyone glared at him. Clemont sweat dropped.
"Right sorry".
"Red I know you're already motivated to win this battle, but now do it for me. Put Olympia in her place" Korrina said.
"Don't worry Korrina, my pokemon and I have got this" Red said as he took her hand. Ash yawned a few moments before Pikachu did.
"It's getting pretty l think I'm going to call it a night" Ash said as he got up and walked over to his tent.
"I think I'm going to bed too" Clemont said.
"I'm staying up!" Bonnie said before Clemont picked her up.
"No you're going to bed".
"Aww" Bonnie said.
"I'm going to get some sleep too, see you in the morning" Red said before he gave Korrina a quick kiss on the cheek. Once Red was in the tent Korrina came over to Serena.
"Alright now that we're alone, is everything planned out?" Serena said.
"Well I got the food ordered and found a good area to set up the party, what about the cake?" Korrina said.
"I've been preparing it all day, i'd say it's some of my best work" Serena said.
"Great, so what are you doing with Ash after we split up?".
"We're going to coastline out on a boat tour to see lots of water pokemon. It will be just like the bay of lights date he took me on. After that I was hoping we could visit the sundial, I hear it's a massive colored crystal that takes in sunlight and reflects out onto the ocean creating beautiful lights" Serena said.
"Right the sundial, I've heard of it. Apparently those lights attract a lot of water type pokemon to the bay" Korrina said.
"From there we can have our tag battle" Serena said.
"I hope you and Ash are ready for defeat" Korrina said.
"We'll see" Serena said. The following morning Ash slowly opened his eyes and saw Serena slowly open her eyes.
"Morning Serena".
"Morning Ash, happy birthday " Serena said before giving hims kiss. The two slowly got up and stretched a little. As they slowly got up Pikachu slowly opened his eyes and stretched a little before climbing onto Ash's shoulder.
"Pika!" Pikachu said with an excited tone as he rubbed his head against Ash's neck.
"Morning Pikachu". They walked out of the tent and saw the others were already up.
"Morning Ash, happy birthday " Red said.
"Happy birthday Red" Ash said.
"Excited guys, you only turn 15 once" Korrina said.
"We're plenty excited for our gym battles" Ash said.
"No come on Ash it's your birthdays , you have to celebrate" Serena said.
"She's right guys you only turn 15 once and you have to do something" Clemont said.
"Well what if we?" Red started.
"No , you guys are enjoying your birthdays today. You have the rest of the year to get your badges and only one day to have your birthdays" Korrina said.
"Maybe they're right" Ash said.
"Alright let's get moving" we can get to Anistar city by noon if we leave now" Korrina said. The group began trekking through the edge of route 17 , getting closer to Anistar city.
At 11:40 the ocean came into sight on the left side.
"Hey look it's the ocean! We're getting close!" Serena said.
"No, we're here" Clemont said as the city came into sight.
"Finally" Ash said. From where they were they could see most of the city, most of the buildings were on large cement and metal platforms over the water. Near the edge they could also make our what looked like a large gemstone near the edge.
It took them another few minutes before they got into the city itself. They saw that the buildings had plenty of space between them and there was a lot of extra room in the streets extra spacing was filled with sections of grass and short trees.
All around these patches of grass and trees were children playing with their pokemon. Most of buildings themselves also seemed to be in very good maintenance, there only seemed to be a few older buildings, and those buildings weren't on the platform area but on the edge of the cliffside on the edge of the platforms.
They could also see a number of boats in the bay below them.
"Huh? That's strange, most of the buildings here either look older or newer. There doesn't seem to be any average buildings" Ash said.
"That's because this is a newer city. It use to be an older town until it became a bigger tourist attraction" Korrina said.
"What made it became a tourist attraction?" Red said.
"Well usually people were more attracted to places like Nummel city, that was until people started to notice Sundial , and unusually large amount of rare water type pokemon that gather in the bay" Korrina said.
"Sundial?" Ash said.
"Unusual amount of rare water pokemon ?" Red said.
"Did you see the huge stone on the edge of the city?".
"That was the sundial?" Ash said.
"That's right, as the sun reaches the right angle it shines lights into the bay that attract water pokemon to them".
"That sounds amazing, we should go down there while we're here" Ash said.
Hearing Ash say that made Serena feel very good about that part of her planned birthday date with Ash.
"We should get to the pokemon center before going anywhere" Red said.
"Good point" Ash said.
"Actually we needed to head to the market and refill on supplies, we can take care of that though" Serena said.
"We're not low on supplies?" Red said.
"Yes we are, you see it's just. Clemont forgot to pack up the pokemon food" Korrina said almost nervously.
"I did?" Clemont said before Korrina and Serena gave him a glare.
"Oh right, I guess I just forgot to uh get those" Clemont said.
"Clemont I asked you twice to make sure we had that packed. You said you had it covered" Red said.
"Well that's my brother , always forgetting what's important. Like finding a proper wife" Bonnie said as Clemont sighed.
"Don't worry we'll just head over and get the stuff, you guys just take care of the pokemon" Serena said as she took out her pokeballs and handed them to Ash. Korrina and Clemont did the same with Red.
"Alright we'll see you guys later" Ash said as he and Red walked off. Pikachu slowly turned around facing Serena and the others. Serena gave Pikachu a wink before he gave her a responsive wink.
"Does he know the plan?" Korrina said.
"I went over it with him this morning before Ash got up" Serena said.
"What the hell, why would you just throw me under the bus like that" Clemont said as Serena and Korrina sweat dropped.
"Sorry Clemont, it was sort of an on the spot thing. We had to have an excuse to be away from them" Serena said. Clemont sighed.
"Alright let's get moving , we still have to get everything set up" Korrina said. Elsewhere in the pokemon center Ash and Red were waiting at a booth as Nurse Joy tended to their pokemon.
"So if the other's are adamant on us not having our gym battles today they must have planned something for us" Ash said.
"Are you kidding, the whole thing of them wanting to go to the store was just a ploy. I saw Clemont pack the food this morning" Red said.
"So what do you think they have planned?" Ash said.
" I don't know, but I stand by what I said earlier about not wanting some big flashy present" Red said.
"Knowing Serena she's probably got something else in mind. If there's anything she loves, it's planning celebrations" Ash said.
"I know we aren't allowed to have the gym battles today, but I think I know who I'm going to use Skarmory and Talonflame" Red said.
"Well Skarmory is your newest pokemon and Talonflame did just evolve" Ash said.
"I know, they're both really pumped for this battle. What about Mightyena?" Red said.
"She's plenty excited about this battle, she's gone above and beyond in training" Ash said. Just then Nurse Joy came back to the counter with all of the poke balls on a trey and Pikachu on her shoulder.
"Excuse me gentlemen, your pokemon are all fine" Joy said as she set the tray down and Pikachu lept onto the counter.
"Hey buddy, feeling alright" Ash said as Pikachu climbed onto his shoulder. As Ash and Red collected the other poke balls Pikachu looked over at the clock and noticed what time it was. When Ash put the last pokeball in his bag , Pikachu leapt down from Ash's shoulder and ran out the door.
"What the? Pikachu!" Ash said.
"What's he doing?" Red said just as confused. The two ran outside and saw him running down the streets.
"Pikachu get back here!" Ash shouted as he and his brother ran after him. For several minutes they tried to catch up, but Pikachu was too fast.
"This isn't working should we try going from above?" Red said.
"That won't work, the buildings are too far apart from each other. We won't be able to parkour across them" Ash said.
"Dam it you're right" Red said. All they could do was sprint after Pikachu as fast as they could. Eventually they came to a large grass area with a few trees and picnic tables.
Pikachu leapt onto an empty table and stopped before turning around. This allowed Ash to reach him.
"There you are" Ash said as he quickly picked up Pikachu.
"What the hell Pikachu why would you just run off like that?" Red said.
"Yeah Pikachu what was that all about?" Ash said. Pikachu looked around as he saw a few people hiding around the trees.
"Pika!" He shouted in a happy tone.
"Huh?" Ash was a bit confused. Through there aura connection, Ash understood PIkachu had just said "Now!".
"Now? Now what?" Ash said.
"Surprise!" Serena and the others shouted as they jumped out from behind the trees.
"Huh?" Ash and Red said in surprise as the others came out.
"Happy birthday!" The group shouted as they came out.
"Oh now I see, you were leading us here Pikachu".
"Pika!" Pikachu said as he rubbed his head against Ash's neck.
"Pikachu performed perfectly, now we can have your party" Serena said. Clemont and Bonnie revealed another table with several bags of food from a local restaurant set up around 6 plates , 6 cups, and a large white and red cake.
"Thanks guys" Ash said as he sat down with the others.
"You guys really went all out" Red said. All of the groups' pokemon soon joined them. Pikachu was sitting next to Lucario, Absol, and Hawlucha while he ate. On the other side of the table Furfrou and Mightyena.
Mightyena was sitting beside him with her head resting against his. Furfrou was still a bit confused on how he felt about Mightyena. His first impression of her wasn't a very good one, but since the frost cavern he was looking at her in a knew way.
He started to see her as a more energetic and free spirited pokemon than just a crazy battle hungry pokemon.
Across the table Red's Charizard and Noivern noticed Ash's Charizard giving an angry look as he watched Zorua in front of Delphox. Zorua changed his form into a Pikachu, then a Totodile, and then a Fennekin.
Delphox laughed a little as Zorua changed forms. Charizard started growling as he saw Delphox's cheeks turn slightly pink. Red's Charizard came over and put his paw on Ash's Charizard's shoulder.
Ash's Charizard quickly pulled away as he puffed out some smoke. Soon Pikachu and the others noticed this as well. Lucario and Pikachu came over to Charizard.
"Pika pikachu".
"Graouu". Both tried to tell Charizard that he had nothing to worry about. Charizard, however, was not convinced . That little hairball was after Delphox, but Charizard would burn Zorua to a crisp before he let that happen.
Meanwhile Serena cut the cake and started giving out pieces.
"Wow Serena this cake is awesome" Korrina said as she had some.
"Yeah it tastes amazing" Ash said.
"Thanks, it's just a recipe my mom taught me" Serena said blushing a little.
"So Ash, Red what is your favorite birthday memory?" Clemont said.
"Yeah, what was your best birthday before this?" Serena said.
"Well when we turned 7 we had all our friends over and our mom got a pair of professional pokemon trainers to come over and show us their pokemon which was very cool. I remember they had a Blastoise , a Nidoking, a Machamp, a Venusaur, a Magmortar, and a Fearow" Red said.
"After that we got to see them have a battle, they were so amazing. It was the first time we saw pokemon that strong before except from Felix. Speaking of which after the party we met felix Just outside of Pallet town and spent some time with him" Ash said.
"Did he give you some training?" Korrina said.
"No we didn't train, at least not like we had before. It was the first time Felix let us have a pokemon battle. He caught a Squirtle and an Abra, then let us use them in a pokemon battle against each other. It was the first time we ever had a battle against each other" Ash said.
"Yeah and I won it" Red said.
"Yes Red, as you've said over and over again" Ash said. After hearing that story it made Serena and Korrina even more excited about the battle they planned. After the group finished with the lunch and cake Serena brought out the presents.
The first one was from Bonnie, she had drawn two pictures with her crayons. One of Ash and all his pokemon and one of Red with all of his pokemon.
"Aww these are so thoughtful thank you Bonnie" Ash said.
"Your welcome, I worked really hard on them" Bonnie said.
"Here's mine!" Clemont said as he handed two small blue devices that looked a bit like pokedex watches.
"What are these ?" Red said.
"My latest inventions, I call them poketchs. They're watches, map, calculators,notepads and more. They can tell you your pokemon's health conditions and even how high of friendship you have with them" Clemont said.
"Wow" Ash said.
"Brother are you forgetting what happens with your inventions" Bonnie said.
"Yes Bonnie, that's why I used normal batteries to power these" Clemont said. Ash switched on his Poketch and called over Pikachu. Ash held the poketch over Pikachu as he turned on the friendship meter.
A small heart formed in the center that got bigger.
"The bigger the heart get's the better your friendship with the pokemon" Clemont said. Ash and the others watched as the heart got bigger and bigger until it covered the entire screen.
"Well that's accurate" Ash said.
"Pika".
"Thanks Clemont" Red said.
"I'm just glad it didn't explode" Clemont said.
"My turn" Korrina said as she took out a pair of small blue wrapped boxes. Ash and Red opened them and saw a blue and red pokeball in each.
"Great balls" Ash said.
"That's right, for those harder to catch pokemon" Korrina said.
"Thanks Korrina, these'll come in handy" Red said before giving Korrina a short kiss.
"Alright, time for my gifts" Serena said nervously. Serena had felt unsure about the gift she gave Ash. Hoping he would like it as much as she had always liked having it.
Red opened his present and saw a pair of black sneakers. Red had been wanting to replace his old shoes for a while.
"It will be nice to get out of my old shoes, thanks Serena" Red said. Ash opened his only to find a small picture inside. At first he was confused until he saw what the picture was of.
It was of him and Serena back when they first met at summer camp. The two were standing next to each other holding hands as they held up a Squirtle together. Ash remembered that day, the day Professor Oak had given each pair of campers a pokemon to look after.
"It's us , at summer camp" Ash said.
Remembering the great times he had with Serena all those years ago filled Ash with a sense of joy he couldn't describe. Serena and the others could see the happiness on Ash's expression. At the same time Serena and Pikachu could feel how much that gift meant to Ash through their aura connections with him.
"I love it" Ash said. Serena had kept that picture with her all those years because of how much it meant to her. When they arrived in Anistar city she took it out and had a copy made.
"I'm glad you" Serena started before Ash grabbed her and kissed her. Serena's face turned red in surprise. After they withdrew Ash held Serena close to him.
"Alright now that we've had the cake, we actually had some things planned for each of us to do" Korrina said.
"Ash you and I will be taking a boat tour to see the rare pokemon of the bay" Serena said.
"Awesome" Ash said.
"Red I thought we could do some parkour" and get to some views over the city" Korrina said.
"Alright, I haven't got to Parkour in a while" Red said.
"What about us?" Bonnie said.
"We can find something else to do" Clemont said. Twenty five minutes later Ash and Serena had changed into their bathing suits before getting onto a boat on one of the small boat platforms under the city.
The man on the boat was tall with short brown hair and green eyes. They also saw he wore a pair of Kalos Navy dog tags around his neck.
"Welcome to the Anistar bay boat tours, my name is David. I'll be showing you around the bay and taking you to the best places to see some rare water pokemon".
"Great! That's what we came to see" Serena said.
"Well sit down we're about get going" David said as he started the boat and Pikachu leapt into Ash's boat started speeding out further into the bay.
As the boat drove through the water Ash and Serena could occasionally see a school of Magikarp, some Horsea, and even a Whailord or two.
"That's a lot of water Pokemon" Ash said.
"That's nothing, just wait until you see the special surprise I have for you" David said.
"Surprise?" Ash said turning to Serena.
"I don't know what it is either" Serena said. When they reached the center of the bay David stopped the boat.
"Alright here we are" David said as he walked over to the side and looked around in the water.
"Well go ahead and jump in, they'll be here to greet you soon" David said.
"Who?" Ash said.
"You'll see".
"Alright I'll race you in Sere" Ash started as he got up on the side of the boat only to be pushed into the water. Pikachu fell off Ash's shoulder and crashed into the water just as his trainer did.
Serena laughed a little as Ash and Pikachu came out of the water.
"Well looks like you beat me into the water" Serena said as she lowered her head to his. Pikachu turned to Ash and nodded as Ash reached up and grabbed Serena by her shoulders. Ash gave Serena a satisfied look as he dragged her into the water.
Serena came up and turned towards Ash.
"Now we're both in the water" Ash said before Serena splashed some water in his face. The two started splashing each other as Pikachu climbed onto Ash's head then leapt onto Serena's head as she splashed Ash. He then leapt back to Ash's head as he splashed her.
David continued watching the water when he saw who he was looking for and smiled.
"They're here" He said. That was when Ash and Serena heard something near them. It sounded like a mixture between snapping and squeaking.
"What was that?" Serena said. All three looked over to see a pokemon's head sticking out of the water. The pokemon had dark blue skin with a long bottle shapes mouth and nose. Behind its eyes and on its side was a patch of tan skin. They also saw three dark blue horn like appendages on the top of it's head pointing backwards.
"Eeeigh" it said.
"What is that?" Ash said.
"That is an Iruka, a very rare water pokemon native to the waters of northern Kalos. I first came across them when I was a diver in the navy" David said.
"I've never seen a pokemon like this before" Serena said. Moments later Ash noticed a large pointed dark blue fin come out of the water. On each side of the fin was a smaller spike shaped fin that came only slightly up.
Serena also saw a dark blue tail that looked like two fins put together and a straight spike pointed at the base.
"Pika" Pikachu said as he saw another two heads come up.
"Eeeigh" another iruka said. Just then a iruka leapt up and out of the water, spinning it's entire body above them and revealing a pair of fins on their sides. A few of the other iruka also began leaping in and out of the water. Some were able to swim backwards with their bodies out of the water.
"Woah they're so amazing" Serena said. One of them came right up to Ash and Serena with a very happy expression on its face.
"Eeiigh!" it said as it licked Serena's face, then Ash's.
Ash could feel the life in the iruka through their aura. They had such free and happy spirits, it made Ash feel very uplifted to be around them.
"Grab their dorsal fins and they'll let you ride them" David said.
"Alright I'll give it a try" Ash said as he grabbed the iruka by his dorsal fin. The iruka gave a happy sound as he quickly sped through the water carrying Ash and Pikachu with him.
"Woah! Serena this is awesome!".
"Pika!". Another iruka swam up to Serena and held up his dorsal fin. Serena grabbed the iruka by his as he sped through the water.
"Woah! Ash you were right!". The two iruka eventually stopped next to each other and swam off. Ash and Serena felt something big moving under them.
"What is that?" Ash said feeling a much stronger pokemon's presence.
"Oh their daddy's here" David said. Ash, Serena, and Pikachu were soon lifted up and out of the water by a massive black pokemon. The pokemon had a body shaped similar to the irukas. Only it had two more sharp looking dorsal phins on the sides of it's back. It also had patches of white skin around it's eyes, parts of its back , the front of its mouth and its stomach, It had two sets of fins on the side of its body with 3 large claws on the larger fins, and a mouth full of massive teeth.
"Eeeaiigh" It wailed in a loud voice.
"David what is this thing?" Serena said nervously.
"Shachi he's the evolved form of Irukas". Shachi had even more life and energy in him than the Irukas. The Shachi thrusted his head forward and hurled his two passengers into the air. Just before they started to fall down, the Shachi splashed into the water and raised his head up and out of the water.
The Shachi opened his mouth at the same time his children did. The Shachi unleashed a powerful Hydro pump as the Irukas unleashed Water gun.
Ash , Serena, and Pikachu were lifted up by the powerful jet of water.
"Woah!" Serena shouted.
"Pika!".
The pokemon stopped their water jet and allowed the group to fall towards the water. Just before reaching the water Shachi leapt up and caught them on his back.
When he landed in the water all of the Irukas swam over and next to them. One by one they raised their heads up and allowed the trainers to pet their heads.
"These pokemon are so amazing, thank you so much for brining us out here Serena" Ash said.
"Oh Ash it was nothi" Serena started before Ash lifted her up in his arms and kissed her.
Elsewhere just outside the city were a large group of trees. Korrina and Red were leaping through the tree branches, using their parkour to easily move through the trees.
"It's been too long since we've gotten to do this together" Korrina said just before she leapt forward off a branch and was caught by Red and pulled up onto another branch.
"I always did love parkour, the sense of freedom it gives you" Red said as he leapt onto another branch.
"Freedom is one of the core principles of what the brotherhood stands for" Korrina said. As they moved through the trees, Red's Charizard was keeping pace flying beside them as Korrina's Lucario kept pace in the trees.
"Any place in particular we're going? Or are we just seeing what's out here?" Red said.
"You'll see" Korrina said. Korrina continued to lead Red higher and higher into the trees until they had reached the very top of the tallest tree.
"Here we are" Korrina said.
"Where is here?" Red said before he realized what she had lead him to. From where they were the four of them could see the vastness of the area for miles. This included the ocean, and route 18.
"It's beautiful" Red said.
"It is a nice view, but there's something I wanted to try up here".
"What?" Red said.
"Synchronizing our aura with the aura around us and being able to see the aura of every pokemon for miles".
"We can really do that?" Red said.
"Yeah, my grandfather did it a few times with me".
"That actually does sound pretty awesome, let's give it a try" Red said. The two took each others' hands and took a deep breath. Moments later they were able to see the aura of their own pokemon as they reached them at the top of the tree.
Soon they were able to feel the aura of a few pokemon that had nested in the trees around them. As minutes passed they continued to push their aura vision and could see more and more pokemon around them.
After nearly 5 minutes they could see almost every pokemon's aura within miles. They could feel their emotions, their true selves, their spirits. It was a feeling like nothing Red had ever felt before.
"It's amazing! So many pokemon, so many different spirits among them. I love it!".
"I hoped you would" Korrina started before Red pressed his lips against hers. Korrina's face instantly turned red.
Forty minutes later Ash and Serena were walking down the beach just outside of Anistar city,
"That boat ride was amazing, those Irukas were amazing" Ash said.
"They were, I almost wish we could have caught one" Serena said.
"I doubt the Shachi would have been so happy about us taking one of his kids" Ash said.
"True" Serena said. That was when she realized what time it was.
"Alright Korrina should be here any minute" Serena said to herself.
"So Serena when is your tournament this week?" Ash said.
"It's two days from now" Serena said.
"You know we could still fit in some extra battling practice today if you wanted to" Ash said. Before Serena could answer she saw Red and Korrina in the distance.
"Actually we don't have to" Serena said.
"What?" Ash said. It was then Ash also noticed Korrina and Red approaching them.
"Hey it's Red and Korrina" Ash said. At that same moment Red noticed they were approaching the others.
"Hey Korrina look, it's Ash and Serena".
"Yeah it is" Korrina said. A minute later the four had reached each other.
"Hey I wasn't expecting to see you guys down here" Ash said.
"Me either, I thought you were out on a boat ride?" Red said.
"We just got back, how was your parkour?".
"You should have been there, we were able to synchronize our aura and see every pokemon for miles" Red said.
"That sounds incredible" Ash said.
"What about you, how was your boat ride?".
"We got to swim with pokemon we've never even heard of before" Ash said as he explained their encounter with Shachi and his Irukas.
"Woah, those Irukas sound amazing" Red said. At that point Serena and Korrina turned to each other and nodded.
"Alright guys, now that we're all here it's time we reveal out other special plan for your birthday" Korrina said.
"Something else?" Red said.
"We know that it's been so long since we've gotten to use our mega evolution stones and even longer since you two have gotten to have an official match against each other. So we thought we'd had a two on two battle between us. Ash and I vs Red and Korrina" Serena said.
"And each of us gets to use one mega evolved pokemon" Korrina said. The idea of a 4 way Mega battle filled Ash and Red with excitement. Getting to use their Mega evolved pokemon again, plus finally having a real battle against each other since they had started their journey.
"Alright! What are we waiting for!" Ash said. The group found a large open area on the sand that would serve as a good battlefield. At that point Clemont and Bonnie had joined them. The had also let all of their pokemon out to watch the match as well.
"Alright Serena are you ready!?".
"I'm more than ready" Serena said confidently as she took out a pokeball.
"I hope you're ready for a repeat of our 7th birthday Ash" Red said.
"You wish".
"Alright this will be a 2 on 2 battle between us. Each trainer is allowed one pokemon. Who ever knocks out both their opponents' pokemon will be the winner" Clemont said standing as the ref.
"Alright let's do this! I choose you Charizard!" Ash shouted as he let out his massive Charizard. Charizard roared as came out and slammed into the ground.
"Time to battle! Go Absol!" Serena shouted as her Absol came out.
"Absol!" he shouted as he stood next to Charizard.
"I choose you Charizard!" Red shouted.
"Battle time Lucario!" Korrina shouted. Red's Charizard and Korrina's Lucario came out and took battle stances.
"Alright here we go" Ash said as he touched the Mega evolution stone on his hidden blade holder. At the same time Serena and the others touched their mega evolution stones.
One by one the four pokemon underwent Mega evolution and roared as they took their ultimate forms. When Delphox saw Charizard in his mega form she gave an impressed look.
When Zorua saw this he gave a jealous look. He tried to change into a Mega charizard , but he couldn't get past Charmander. When Charizard saw this he gave a satisfied smile.
"Light up the battlefield with Flamethrower" Ash shouted.
"Absol get under him". Absol ran directly under Charizard as he soared into the air. Once Charizard was high enough he increased the size of his tail flame and unleashed a small hurricane of fire around the battlefield.
"Lucario get into Charizard's back!".
"Charizard Steel wing !" Lucario sprinted over and leapt onto Charizard's back as he turned his wings metal and covered Lucario with them.
When Charizard flew through the fire he only took minor damage, but Lucario was unharmed.
"Perfect now use Dragon Claw!".
"I hoped that ™ I bought works. Absol intercept them with Rock tomb". Absol's eyes glowed green as he slammed his feet into the ground. Several massive rocks rose up from the ground and hurled up at the other two pokemon.
"Lucario Close combat!".
"Charizard Flamethrower and get that fire away!" Red shouted. Red's Charizard unleashed a furry of blue fire that came in contact with the other fire at the same time he whipped his wings around and forced the fire away.
Lucario leapt forward and used his paws to smash each of the incoming rocks into pebbles.
"Charizard Air Slash angle your wings!" Ash's Charizard Y flew in low just in time to avoid Charizard X's claws. Once he was past the other Charizard, Charizard Y flew right at Lucario who was now falling towards the ground and unable to do anything to avoid his opponent.
"Oh no! Charizard stop him!" Red shouted. But he was to late, Charizard Y slammed his wings and claws into Lucario, hurling him into the ground. Serena saw Red's Charizard about to come up from behind and Slash Ash's Charizard.
Seeing as Charizard X's wings were still metal, Serena knew that Rock tomb would easily get knocked away.
"Charizard look out behind you! Absol intercept him with Night Slash!". Charizard Y turned around just in time to see Charizard X's claws as they raked across his neck and face.
As Charizard Y slammed into the sand Absol sprinted across the sand at Charizard X.
"Charizard behind you , use Steel wing!".
"Kick off it!". As Charizard X whipped his wings around, at Absol. Mega Absol leapt up and kicked off Charizard X's wings as they flew at him. Once Absol was on the ground he leapt forward and slashed Charizard X across the chest with Night Slash.
"Pika!", "Grauu!" Pikachu and Tyrantrum shouted in excitement watching the 4 mega evolved pokemon battle. Clemont and Bonnie were just as impressed , never seeing this many mega evolved pokemon do battle all at once.
"Alright good start, Lucario Extremespeed on Absol!".
"Charizard give him a flame shield!". As Lucario sprinted at Absol with incredible speed Charizard quickly came in front of Absol and blasted the sand in front of them with fire. Being weak to fire, Lucario lurched back.
"Steel wing into Dragon claw!" Charizard X flew forward coming in low. Lucario leapt up and over Charizard X. Charizard X quickly shielded Lucario with his wings before coming forward to slash Charizard Y.
"Absol use Rock Tomb!" Absol smashed his feet into the ground and hurled a few rocks at Charizard X. Charizard slashed through
"Lucario get him with Power up Punch!" Lucario leapt up and clean over Charizard X and wrapped his legs around Charizard's neck and hurled him to the ground before slamming his fist into Charizard's face.
"Absol Pycho cut! The fin on Absol's head started to glow pink before he unleashed a wave of physic energy that flew forward and hurled Lucario back.
"Charizard Slash him with Dragon claw!" . Charizard X hurled himself forward with his claws glowing Violet.
"Dragon Pulse!" Charizard Y, who was still on the ground, opened his mouth and blasted Charizard X with dragon energy, hurling him back and away from Absol.
"Alright !" Ash said.
"Wow this battle is amazing!" Clemont said. Pikachu and the others pokemon were just am impressed with the battle. Ash and Red were having the time of their lives battling with their Mega Charizards.
Serena and Korrina were also having an amazing time battling alongside their boyfriends and Mega pokemon.
"Absol Double team with Rock Tomb!".
"Charizard fly around them and use Flamethrower through the gaps". Absol started to make a dozen copies of himself around Charizard X and Lucario as Charizard Y flew around the copies and blasted fire in-between the gaps.
As fire and Rocks hurled at the pokemon, Red and Korrina tried to think of something. That was when their combined aura connection gave them an idea.
"Charizard protect him with your wings!".
"Lucario find his aura!". Lucario took in his breath as Charizard X covered him from the fire and rocks with his metal wings. After a moment Lucario found the real Absol.
"Dragon Claw!" Red shouted. Charizard X flew forward at the real Absol with his claws glowing violet.
"Detect!" Serena shouted. Absol moved out of Charizard X's path just in time, unknowing Lucario was still right behind him.
"Close combat!".
"Absol look out!" Ash shouted. Absol turned just in time to see Lucario's paws come at him. Lucario unleashed a furry of powered up and very effective strikes against Absol. When Lucario was finished , Absol was knocked out.
"Absol!" Serena shouted as Absol reverted back to his normal form.
"Absol is unable to battle" Clemont said.
"Charizard Inferno!" Charizard Y emerged out of the remnants of the earlier fire right in front of Lucario. Before Lucario could even more he was engulfed in a tsunami of fire.
"Lucario!" Korrina shouted. When the fire receded, Lucario was on his back in his normal form unconscious.
"Lucario is unable to battle!" Clemont said.
"Pika!" Pikachu said excited to see it was just Charizard X vs Charizard Y. Serena and Korrina returned their pokemon as Charizard X and Charizard Y went back towards their trainers.
Ash and Red starred each other down as their pokemon did the same thing.
"It's just us now" Red said.
"Yup" Ash said. Charizard X and Y were just as pumped to have a one on one battle against each other. The last time they had a full battle was months ago and it ended in a tie. They were both itching to see who could perform better in Mega evolved form.
"Phox!" Delphox shouted. Hearing Delphox cheer for him again gave Charizard another boost before he roared in confidence.
"Charizard into the air and use Dragon Pulse".
"Charizard Dragon Claw!" Charizard X quickly flew up and after Charizard Y with his claws glowing violet. Charizard Y stopped when he got to a high enough altitude and unleashed a pulse of Dragon energy.
Unfortunately for Charizard X, he had been pursuing Charizard Y to well. He was now to close and could not dodge the incoming blast of dragon energy.
"Come on Charizard fight through it!" Red being hit with Dragon pulse, Charizard X felt his trainer behind him. He endured as he moved through the dragon pulse and slashed Charizard X across the face.
"Charizard!" Ash shouted as his Charizard landed on the ground.
"Great work follow up with Steel wing!" .
"Charizard Air Slash!". Charizard X came down fast with his wings covered in metal as Charizard Y flew up at Charizard X.
" Wait for it, wait for it. Now! Flamethrower at his wing!" Charizard Y opened his mouth and blasted Charizard X's right wing with fire, knocking him off balance. This allowed Charizard Y to slash Charizard X across the side and avoid his wings.
"Now use Dragon claw!" Red shouted. Just as Charizard Y went past him, Charizard X managed to rake his claws across Charizard Y's back. Both Charizard X and Y landed on the ground taking deep breaths.
"Those two are really going all out" Korrina said.
"This is amazing!" Serena said.
" Keep it up Charizard you're doing great!" Ash shouted.
"Pika!" , "Grouu!".
"We can do this Charizard !" Red shouted.
"Charizard Y I know you've got this!" Serena said.
"Charizard X show him what you can do!" Korrina shouted.
"Charizard use Flare Blitz".
"Charizard Dragon Pulse" Charizard Y quickly flew up into the air as Charizard X covered himself in fire and flew after him. Charizard Y turned around and unleashed Dragon pulse. This time , however, Charizard X was ready.
He moved out of the Dragon Pulse's path then smashed into Charizard Y, knocking him back a few feet.
"Charizard!" Ash said as he saw Charizard Y struggling to stay airborne.
"Great work, another Flare Blitz should finnish him!" Red shouted as Charizard X flew at Charizard Y.
"Come on Charizard you can do this!" Serena shouted.
"Pika!". From his aura connection with Ash, Charizard Y could feel what Ash was thinking and understood what he wanted him to do. It was chancy, but it could work. When Ash saw Charizard X only a few feet in front of Charizard Y, he shouted.
"Seismic toss!" Just before Charizard X could smash into Y , Y grabbed his arms and held them in place as he was moved back. Still when they stopped Charizard Y was still holding X in place.
"Graww?" Charizard X said with a sweat drop.
"Oh no" Red said. Charizard Y smiled as he flew up with Charizard X in his arms. The others watched in awe as Charizard Y did 3 circles in the air before flying straight at the ground. Just before they reached the ground, Charizard Y hurled X forward.
After the cloud of sand cleared Charizard Y was standing over an unconscious normal Charizard.
"Grawww! Charizard Y roared.
"Charizard X is unable to battle , the winner is Ash and Serena" Clemont said.
"We did it!" Serena shouted.
"Charizard we did it!" Ash shouted. Charizard Y turned back to his normal self before Ash ran forward and hugged him. Charizard ,feeling so proud that he won, blasted Ash with a small flamethrower.
"Still doing that I see" Ash said as he coughed some soot out.
"Graww!" Charizard roared smiling before picking Ash up and licking him. Serena smiled as she watched this.
Red walked over and helped his Charizard get up.
"Charizard are you ok?".
"Graww" Charizard said nodding.
"I want you to know that I'm very proud of you" Red said.
"Graww" Charizard said. Ash and his Charizard came over to Red.
"Congratulations Ash, you guys won" Red said.
"For 8 years I've been waiting for this. It feels good" Ash said.
"Just you wait till the pokemon league" Red said as his Charizard nodded.
"Sooo, what do you guys think. How has this birthday held up?" Serena said as she walked over to them.
"Well we got to see and encounter pokemon we've never seen before, got memories back of summer camp with you, and got to have a 4 way battle with our Mega pokemon" Ash said.
"I'd say it stacks up" Red said.
"Well happy birthday" Korrina said as she came over to Red and kissed him.
"Happy Birthday Ash" Serena said before she did the same.

Sorry this took me so long, school has kept me busy. Anyway I know I've introduced another set of new pokemon in this chapter, but I feel they should have made a Dolphin pokemon by now.

Also I want to clarify that the Red in this story is based more off the one from origins where as the Red from my other story was based of Red from Yellow.
