COLBY THOMAS BLACK

When people go on flights that long, they usually talk about the view of the clouds or the cities zooming out. They tell you about how long they had to wait or sleep the fourteen hours off, but that wasn't the case with us. We were on one of the Cullen private jets, acquired years ago. It was designed for trips of four or five people maximum, with a king-sized bed and fixed bean chairs. I lay down on my side, Allie resting on top of me, her hair on my forehead, browsing my paper-thin tablet for non-tourist stops in Egypt. I'd travelled my fair share of countries, and I always had the best time when I wasn't visiting the overly-polished tourist spots, they were all becoming so alike it was tasteless.

Allie took my tablet from my hand and folded it, throwing it on the end of bed. I turned my head to her, amused. "Enough planning," she said, "We'll have fun no matter where we end up there." She kissed my jaw.

I re-positioned her so I was lying on my back and she was on top of me, pushing her hair up, pulling her face to mine, kissing her. She moaned into my mouth, her arms on both sides of my head. I ran my hands down her back, pulling her top from inside her skirt. She broke our kiss to unbutton her shirt, letting it hang from her shoulders, revealing her black lace bra. I kissed down her jaw, passing by her neck, to the top of her breasts. Did I ever mention how thankful I was that her growth spurt didn't go lightly on that part of her? She bit her lips, suppressing a moan and I slid off the straps of her bra, sitting up, taking off her top and my shirt completely.

Her hands roamed on my chest and down my abs. I growled, pulling her face to mine again, taking her lips between mine alternatively. She moaned, pushing me down on my back again. Still kissing her, I felt her bare back with my hands, moving up to grab her barely-covered chest. She gasped and moved her hips slightly against mine, her mini skirt riding up all the way to her waist, revealing her matching panties. My growl sounded more like a roar as she closed the distance between our bare stomachs and it took all my willpower not to flip her and take her right this moment.

She moved her mouth to kiss the point where my neck and shoulder meet, licking it as I moved my hand to grab her ass and she sank her teeth into my flesh. My eyes rolled to the back of my head as she pulled away, licking the tiny drips of blood spilling out as my wound healed. "Fucking delicious."

"Mmhmm," I said, unable to form any comprehensible words as she grinded her hips against mine again - this time harder, more focused. "Fuck," I breathed. She moaned, her breath hitching, moving faster. I couldn't take it anymore.

With one hand supporting her back, I roughly flipped her on her back, pulling her long, soft legs so they were wrapped around me, still wearing my jeans, kissing her, tasting the leftovers of the metallic taste of my blood in her mouth, moving my hips against hers. Her chest rumbled with a soft, faint growl and she held on to me tighter with her legs. I was losing my mind. My control was slipping away way too fast for me to catch. Her face was flushed, her eyes darker, and her knees were shaking the slightest bit. I moved my lips to her ears and licked it a little, gasping for air. "Let go."

A moment later she let out a scream, calling out my name, and all of her body shook violently as she arched her back, subconsciously borrowing my own power to fill my head with the intensity of her pleasure, sending me to my own wave of shaking as well. We both panted hard. She dropped her legs and I collapsed on top of her, burying my face in her hair, inhaling her scent. She was still vibrating a little, her knees especially. I rolled to her side, pulling the covers over us. "Wow.."

I chuckled, kissing her forehead, taking her between my arms, her back facing me. "Wow indeed."

She took a deep breath. "There's a shower here, right?"

I laughed. "Yeah, over there." I pointed at the semi-private golden door across the bed, my hand roaming her stomach. When I reached her waist she gasped a little, twitching away from me. I sat up. "Did I hurt you?"

She shook her head. "No, no."

"Alison.." I took the covers off and, sure enough, there was a faint bruise where I'd touched her. "Fuck, Allie!" Why wasn't I more careful?

"Stop," she said, pulling the covers over her again, looking away. "It's not you, I promise. IkindoftriedtrainingwithEmmettbeforeweleft."

"What?" How could she have been so irresponsible? How could he?

She sighed. "I honestly thought I could take him."

I dropped back on the pillow, huffing. "You could've just asked me. Emmett gets carried away."

She shrugged. "That's the point. You're always willing to let me borrow your power, or your strength, or your healing," she explained, yawning, "I'm having difficulty with the unwilling gifted people," she explained, "I can't keep it up long enough." I snorted. "You know what I mean!"

"Yeah, well," I said, "Are you okay now? Did it just bruise?"

"Yes, God," she said, though not as annoyed as she probably wanted to sound, yawning again.

I kissed her temples, snatching my tablet again. "Get some sleep, we still have eight hours to go."

We landed exactly on time at the Aswan International Airport. We'd both showered - alternatively, because this was getting out of control - and changed. She wore a strawberry maxi skirt, the color of her lips, with a white sleeveless shirt tucked in, her hair braided. I wore khaki shorts and a black v-neck tee. I took her hand in mine, our bag on my shoulder and stepped off the plane. We'd decided we'd travel light - only a couple of outfits to get us through travelling and whatnot, but other than that, we'd get clothes and other stuff on the go, since we didn't have to worry about a budget at all. I recently handed Alice my personal bank account, where I had my earlier savings and my current earnings so she could handle my money for me as I work. I didn't want to depend on my parents, especially that I took it upon myself to provide for Alison ever since her father passed away.

Customs were a breeze, since we didn't have stuff we needed to process and we'd already handed the Egyptian authorities our flight plan weeks ago. Amun had someone in a Jeep pick us up from the airport and drive us from Aswan to a remote location, in the middle of the Western Desert, not very far away from the Valley of the Kings. All four of them were waiting for us - Amun, Kebi, Benjamin and Tia. I got out of the car first, they were all looking anticipatingly. Benjamin was the only one who shot me a smile, the others were just trying to handle their expectations, I suppose.

I took her hand and she hopped off, her grin confident, welcoming. The wind shot across us and I felt all four of them tense. "You did not tell us she is human," Amun said with a strong accent.

I smiled, holding her by her shoulders. She spoke. "I'm not human."

Amun raised an eyebrow and Benjamin stepped forward, holding out his hand to shake hers. "Your heart is strange," he said, "Like his. You're a hybrid-wolf, are you not?"

She nodded. It was my turn to speak. "We're a lot alike, but her vampire side is more dominant than mine, she only carries the wolf gene."

"Amazing," Amun said, "Why don't we all go inside? I'm sure you two must be starving."

We went inside and I was amazed by the number of human servants they had. It was sad, because I knew most of them were going to end up as food, but we weren't here to make judgements, even though it made me cringe as a protector who descended from a family of 'vegetarian' vampires. They had an amazingly large meal ready for us, which says something because they had thought I would be the only one eating, but I assumed the rest of the food was going to go to the servants anyway. Most of the food we'd never seen before, being unfamiliar with the middle eastern cuisine in general, but everything was delicious. They were definitely missing out on this, even if they were having human blood regularly.

The entire time as we sat and ate Benjamin and Allie were staring at each other with curiousity. I'd briefed Alison about Benjamin's ability and had her promise she wouldn't try to absorb his power until the training actually began. Needless to say, after the formalities and asking about my mother and Carlisle in particular, we moved to the subject of the center of my pride - Alison.

"Do you only absorb the powers of the gifted vampires?" Amun asked.

She shook her head. "Shape-shifters, too. And not just special powers - other stuff like, strength and healing. I don't know about humans, though. Haven't tried."

"Ya Allah*," Tia mumbled.

"Is that term accurate, though?" Benjamin asked, "Absorb. Do you absorb the powers, or do you mimic them?"

She grinned mischieviously. "Absorb is spot on," she said, "When I have someone's power, they don't."

"Defensive and offensive," Amun noted, "That would be useful when the Volturi try to acquire her."

Before I left, I'd discussed the Volturi issue with the Cullens. We'd kept their destruction a secret for about thirteen years now, but one of the surviving guard was bound to slip someday - as much as the power game was unappealing to us, someone would have to keep vampires in order, protect our secret. Since only Vladimir of the Romanian coven survived and without alliances, he wouldn't be able to take over the rule, the Egyptians were the safest choice. We agreed not to interfere at all and let them handle their power struggle on their own. Once we decided that, Alice saw them taking over without much trouble, and even recruiting the Volturi's previous guards into their own coven.

"We don't have to worry about that," I said, "There is no more Volturi."

Apart from Allie's indifferent chewing, everyone was dead silent. They weren't even pretending to breathe. "What do you mean no more Volturi?"

My smile was smug. "They stepped over their turf, they tried to kill my little sister to avenge Jane," I said, straightening my back, spreading my arms on both sides of me. "I'm sure you imagine how that would play out. Maybe Carlisle was hesitant towards violence at first, but they left us no choice but to fight them. And, I don't know about you, but I don't walk out from a good fight, especially for family."

It was the first time Kebi actually spoke. "They're all dead?"

"Have been for thirteen years," I said casually, "Except for most of the guard. No one's in charge, the word of the Volturi was enough to keep everyone in order, but, this won't go on for long, they're bound to notice."

"Are the Cullens stepping up?"

"Please," Allie said, "If they wanted to, they had plenty of chance."

I nodded in agreement. "We're more than capable, especially with my pack on our side," I said, "But we don't really care for that. We think you would be perfect for the position, and we're ready to introduce you to all our allies and the guard, who both respect and fear Carlisle, on one condition."

"What is it?" Amun asked, the shock still evident in his tone.

"Spare us," I said, "As simple as that. We want nothing to do with the ruling coven, whoever it is. We don't want visits or people watching over us. We don't want to be recruited or anything of that sort."

Amun stared at Allie for a while, sighing. "Deal."

Benjamin didn't look as excited as Amun did about this, but he changed the subject. "When do we begin her training?"

"Now," Alison said immediately, I rolled my eyes.

"Whenever is fine with me," I said, "Just so we're clear, though," I was looking at Benjamin, "She's not as durable as your average hybrid, so, take care."

We were done with our food so he stood up and sped to her side, offering his hand to her. "Shall we?"

ALISON ANDERSON

Benjamin, Colby and I headed out and stood beside a relatively small pool. I could see the others watching from a distance. I turned to Benjamin - he was exotic in a way; I'd never seen a vampire who wasn't as pale as the Cullens. Even though his eyes were bright red, his aura was cheerful the entire time, so I wasn't scared of him.

"Tell me how your power works," he said, "How do you feel when you're using someone else's gift?"

"Nothing out of the ordinary, unless it affects my strength," I said, "But again, the only powers I've tried with were purely mental."

He moved a little closer to me. "Focus on the water," he said, "Focus on moving it, hold out your hands and move it."

I turned to look at the water and took a deep breath. I knew what he was capable of exactly, and I knew the extent of my powers as well. I held out my hands in front of me, and just like moving my fingers or any other part of my body, I moved the water. It rose up and twirled as I turned my fingers. I could actually feel how powerful it was in my body - it was like every inch of me was connected with my environment, and everything was at my will. I knew in my head that if I wanted to, I could control anything around me just like I would control my own body. It was exhilarating to say the least. Without thinking at all, I put the water down and moved the wind around a bit, making it breeze right through my hair.

It didn't last long though, as I could feel him resist, and I still wasn't able to hold onto the power for a long time once the person resisted. I could feel it move out of my body and back to his. He gazed at me in awe and I turned around to find Colby grinning, with a proud look on his face, keeping his distance as we agreed earlier, so I could focus on training.

"It took me years of training to get to the extent of control you had over everything around you like that," Benjamin said, "You not only absorbed my power, but you absorbed my current reception of it - amazing," he said, "Never in my life had I been stripped of my powers like that - seeing someone else do what is instinctive to me is quite something."

"But you resisted, right?"

He nodded. "It seemed in reach. I focused on it and was able to gain it back - you're easily distracted," he said, "Let's try that again - close your eyes, focus. I will resist, but don't be a stranger. Pinpoint the feeling of resistance, fight it. At this moment, it's as much your power as it is mine."

I did as he told me and closed my eyes. I could hear and feel the water move with my command and he started resisting again. I could feel a slight tug - his power slipping. It's my power, I thought, Mine. Not his - mine.

My inner voice was roaring within me and, to my surprise, his power was all mine again. I wondered if he let go. I snapped my eyes open and I could see him struggle, trying to regain control over it again in vain. I dwelled on the success itself for longer than I should've though, because it distracted me and it slipped back to him again, the water splashing violently as soon as it did.

"Good," he said, "Now, let's tune things up a notch - you up for a drive?"
