Remember: Sarah's name is Sarah Rose Black (middle name after Rosalie Hale), sometimes Colby calls her Rosie.
ALISON ANDERSON
It was like a million lions were released from their tight cages into the wild at the same time after being locked in for ages - that was how it felt inside me when I told him I loved him. I wanted to before, but I didn't have it in me. I was so exhausted, and I felt so empty. I appreciated his presence but I couldn't really feel anything - until recently, everything kicked in so hard I had to tell him. I had to express it, and I couldn't find a better way than under the moonlight in an exotic country.
His face was indescribable. He stayed still for a while, his eyes searching mine, before his mouth broke into a grin. He held my cheek with one hand and pushed me to him, kissing me softly, taking his time. He tasted like garlic and tomatoes but I didn't mind. "I love you, too, beautiful."
He didn't need physical contact to communicate mentally with me, but he kept his hand on my cheek as he showed me every moment we had together, excluding the painful parts for him, from the moment he imprinted on me, to my transformation, to our first kiss, to living together, to every time we touched. Seeing the imprint from his point of view overwhelmed me and I found tears trickling down my cheeks involuntarily. He was about to speak when I hushed him, a finger on his lips.
I smiled at him, kissing his lips again. He kissed me back, pouring everything into it. I moaned into his lips; he was driving me crazy. I needed him, I needed him everywhere and I needed him right now. I took his hand in mine and slipped it under my abaya, he squeezed my thighs, driving his hands up, turning us so I was laying back and he was on top. My arms were wrapped around his neck, both his hands now sliding my clothes up to my waist. His fingers went through every curve, every muscle, every exposed piece of me. He'd stop when he reached my panties and go up and down again, before slipping his hand farther up as we kissed. Fuck, yes. I arched my back and moaned, sighing into his mouth. He lingered for a while before moving back down, almost reaching the exact spot every inch of me needed him to. Almost.
He broke our kiss. Both of us panting and I was practically writhing underneath him, begging for the contact he so deliciously yet selfishly deprived me of. "Don't stop," I breathed, holding myself up to kiss him again but he rolled over.
He smiled - a restrained smile, like he was going against his very nature to do it. "Not like this, Allie."
Bullshit. Bullshit. He wasn't going to lecture me about staying a virgin until marriage or shit, was he? I sighed, burying my face into my hands, trying to contain the desire that was building up within me from taking over. "You're supposed to be the whore in this relationship."
He laughed. A beautiful, musical laugh that just made me want to kiss him again. He kissed my forehead and I twitched away a little. Physical contact at that moment was next to impossible. "I probably want this ten times more than you do." Highly doubtful. "But, let's just, take our time. We have forever."
"I'm not waiting until marriage."
"Whoa, whoa," he said, "I'm not God, I won't be waiting that long either. Just, trust me on this, okay?"
I rolled my eyes, standing up, straightening my clothes. "Whatever, tease," I said, "I'm going to bed, you're sleeping in the balcony tonight."
COLBY THOMAS BLACK
I woke up to my phone buzzing next to me. I barely opened my eyes, answering it, resting it on my ear. "Hello," I said groggily, yawning.
"You're spending your vacation in bed?" Sarah said.
I glanced at the clock. "It's six AM here, Sarah," I whined, "Someone better have died."
"Sorry to destroy your dreams, but no, nobody died," she said, "I'm just calling to see how you guys are, and I have some news."
I rubbed my eyes. "We're fine, what's up?"
"Well," she said, "The news of Alison's dad's death reached William and Allen -" his brother and nephew, Mary's father and brother "- They're looking for Alison, they thought she ran away somewhere. The police is looking for her everywhere."
That got me awake. I sat up, my back to the wall of the balcony. "What are we going to do?"
She stayed silent for a while, then she sighed. "There's this suggestion.."
"Spare me the dramatic entrance, Rosie."
"Don't come back here," she said, "Go from Egypt to somewhere in Europe, maybe, both of you, and stay there until she's as old as she looks. The Cullens will move with you. Rosalie and Emmett will adopt her, if she approves."
"What about the pack?" I said, "What about you? And Mom?"
"Look, we'll come and we'll stay with you guys for a week or so," she said, "Then come back here. Dad and I will be taking over the pack for a couple of years, it's been quiet here anyway," she said, "You'll be able to get the college education you've always wanted, and she'll get a shot at a normal start-over," she explained, "Plus, she's going to be off the map for at least three to four years, that's safer for her than staying here, where her grandfather can find her, or Canada, where the police would be looking because she was supposed to be with her father."
She had a point; starting over somewhere else could be a good fresh start for Alison as well as me. She would be much more protected, and she wouldn't have to be in the same place where she went through everything lately; she wouldn't have to be reminded of everything, and she wouldn't have to be alone. She could make friends wherever we end up, and she'll have me as well as the Cullens, and we'll always go back to La Push where we belong. Nothing else tied us up in Washington.
I sighed. "Let me discuss this with her, we'll get back to you, just give me a little time."
"Just, let us know as soon as possible so the new living arrangements could be planned," she said, "Oh and Mom says hi."
"Mhm," I said, "Get Dad on the phone." She called for him. As soon as he was on the phone, I spoke, "Dad, what the fuck?"
"I know, I know," he said, "I talked to Embry, he said he'd tell William if it came down to it, but he'd really rather not. He's afraid. And none of the bloodsuckers here seem to think of it as a good idea either," he said, "Too much risk of exposure, since the wolf thing alone doesn't explain the growth spurt."
"Where would we even go?"
"I dunno," he said, "But I do know you can handle yourself anywhere - same goes to her. And it's not like you'll be alone, right? You'll have family."
"I know," I breathed, "Alright. Tell everyone we'll get back to them tomorrow." I hung up on him and stood up, stretching. I walked to the bed where Allie was soundly asleep and slipped on a shirt they had laid out. I climbed next to her and pulled her into my arms, she smiled in her sleep and clung to me. She looked so beautiful like that - relaxed. I pulled the messy covers over us and closed my eyes; I needed the proximity. I needed to reassure myself that it was going to be okay. I was never a fan of change, and judging by what happened lately, neither was she for the most part.
But it was going to be okay, right? We both loved each other, and I know I would always do my best to make her happy, for as long as I breathe. Her presence in my life was more than enough for me, but I knew she'd always support me as well. We could do this. We could start fresh. We could breathe away from all the trouble at home. We could study and have a somewhat normal life. She could have a family that everyone knew about - she could have stability.
I ran my hands up and down her back. She'd changed into cotton PJs she had packed with her. She started stirring awake and I stopped, thinking she would fall back asleep but she didn't. She opened her eyes half-way through. "Hmm, I thought I kicked you out of bed last night." She threw a leg on mine. I smiled a little, silent. She frowned. "Is everything okay?"
I nodded. "Yeah, sure."
She sighed. "You're a terrible liar. I'm too sleepy to focus. Is it urgent? Did something happen?"
"Go back to sleep, it's nothing too urgent," I whispered.
I was about to get up when she caught my arm. "No, stay," she said. I fell back beside her. She hugged me, her eyes closed. "I don't know what's going on," she said, "But you're tense as fuck. Sleep here next to me," she said, kissing my cheek, "Whatever it is, it's gonna be okay. Alright?"
I kissed her forehead. "Yeah."
"You've been quiet all day."
She was right, I was. I hadn't realized it, but I probably haven't spoken a word since breakfast with the Egyptians. We'd packed our stuff, including our new set of clothes, and left to the airport. We had a week before Alison's next and last session and we had it divided between Alexandria, Cairo and Ras Shaitan, in that order. We'd gotten back on our jet and to Alexandria. I guess I couldn't stop thinking about what Sarah had said earlier.
Every time I thought about it more I realized it might actually be a lot better than it sounded, but the problem was that I had no idea how Alison would react to the news. Maybe she would be excited, maybe she wouldn't. Maybe she'd be depressed again. God. No. But the more I delayed it, the worse it was for her because she'd have to make a decision faster. I mean, I could take the easy way out and order Embry to tell William everything but that might damage her even more; I knew she still wasn't over her desire to feed off humans and I knew she definitely wasn't ready to face her extended family with that fact. Ever since she started living with the Cullens and the pack on a regular basis her aura had been a lot brighter, more compelling. She thrived.
After a while I decided I'd tell her in a few hours, when my surprise was over.
We'd landed a while ago. Benjamin had helped me a lot with my arrangements - most of which I had all set weeks before we left the States - so there was a rental BMW waiting for us at the airport with its assigned chauffeur. We took the keys and decided we'd like to be on our own for the trip, with the aid of technology, of course. She barely knew how to drive, so I took the driver's seat, and she sat next to me, in a short golden skirt and a denim top, her hair up in a bun.
"Is everything okay?" she asked, for the millionth time.
I refused to answer that, because I neither wanted to tell her now nor did I want to lie to her. "How's the weather treating you?"
She sighed. "Fine, I guess," she said, "It's not as hot here as it was back there, but it's definitely a lot more humid." She touched her hair slightly.
I smiled. "Any special requests today, ma'am?" She shook her head no. "Alright then, buckle your seatbelt."
It was a 45-minute drive to Abu Qir Bay, on the other side of the beautiful mediterranean city. I parked the car there and stepped out, rushing to her side before she could stand up. I snatched a black blindfold from my pocket and placed it gently on her eyes. "For the next fifteen minutes, no questions and no peeking."
She frowned, reaching out to hold my hand. "Where are you taking me?"
"Somewhere I think you'll really like," I said, locking the car, guiding her towards a canoe that was waiting for us on the shore. I carried her bridal-style so she wouldn't stumble and stepped in. The guy greeted us in sloppy English, but I told him not to say anything about where we were going, which was the only phrase Benjamin could teach me in Arabic. During our time on the canoe, she kept holding to my arms, sniffing the air, trying to guess where we were headed as if she had the slightest clue about anything around here. We both stayed silent, though, as if it was previously agreed. A while later we arrived at our destination.
Nelson's Island.
It was mostly sandy, with a little green on the shore. As soon as we stepped out of the canoe, I took off her blindfold. She took the scenery in, her mouth dropping a little. The island had a small hill, with carved stairs going up. The hill was surrounded by a huge graveyard, containing British soldiers from the Napoleonic Wars. There were carvings and prayers all over the place from another century. Up the hill, I'd prepared a picnic for both of us but the thing was, it was no ordinary picnic.
I'd set up, with the help of people Benjamin knew and the miracle that was video calling, an enormous baby blue and off-white tent, with artificial lighting wrapped in rosebuds. Just outside the tent was a wooden table for two, set with silverware and glass plates and lunch, which consisted of a bunch of salads I tried to remember but couldn't, medium-rare steak, the way she liked it, Mahshy (Mahshy's a middle-eastern dish, that was basically vine leaves stuffed in the most delicious rice-meat-veggie combination your mouth could ever taste) and a bottle of champagne.
When she spotted the setting her face broke into the most amazing grin I'd ever seen, and she turned to me, pointing at herself. "Is this all for me?"
"No, actually that was for my other supernatural, half-vampire girlfriend but she ditched last minute and I thought, meh, why not bring you or something." I rolled my eyes. She just jumped a little excitedly, kissing me on the cheek before sprinting up the hill to see what was up there more clearly. The canoe had already left, as planned, and wouldn't return until the morning. I followed her more slowly, watching her as she took everything in.
"So?" I said, smiling, standing beside her, "What's the verdict?"
"I love it!" She grabbed my hand and pulled me towards the table, sitting on one of the chairs. I sat across from her. "I mean, I expected awesomeness, of course, but this is amazing!" she said, "Being with you in an exotic country is one thing, but you setting up all of this in a freakin' historical island in the middle of the Mediterranean? Amazing." She was beaming, her cheeks darkening, jumping in her seat a little. It sent waves of joy through me just seeing her that happy.
"How'd you know it's historical?"
She had a sheepish smile on her face, pulling my folded tablet from her small purse. "I looked it up real quick."
I laughed. "Wouldn't it have been better if we had this date like, thirty years ago when people were still getting used to the idea of having a small phone to carry around that barely makes calls everywhere?"
"So it is a date?"
"Sometimes you're just so dense," I said, "Of course it is. Last time in Seattle didn't count, so this is our first date, Allie. Our first official date."
She reached her hand to grab mine. I squeezed hers slightly. "You have no idea how grateful I am, Colby," she said, sighing, smiling, "This truly is fucking amazing. I mean, I've never seen you near food for that long without even trying to look at it. You must love me or something."
I laughed. "Or something."
She removed her hand from mine and we both dug into our food. She looked so beautiful, eating and looking at me occasionally with a great smile on her face, it almost distracted me from my own share. After a while, though, she dropped her fork and rested her hands under her chin. "I've always thought my life would be super normal, you know?" she said, "I didn't expect to fall in love, or be like this, or go anywhere. True, I'm good at school, but I never thought I'd ever leave Forks."
"Do you want to leave Forks?" I asked, hopeful.
She shrugged, grabbing a Mahshy finger and stuffing it into her mouth. "Yeah, sure," she said, "I mean, some day, right?"
I was hoping I could delay this talk, but it seemed fitting enough to talk about it now. She didn't look completely opposed to the idea, so maybe the setting would help. Maybe. "Would you like to relocate? Now?"
She frowned, leaning back in her chair. "Relocate where?" she asked, "What about you? What about the pack? And your family? Where would we go?"
"Well," I said, "I'm all yours, literally," I explained, "The pack can be taken care of, no worries. We could go anywhere you want - we could even move out of the States for now."
Her eyes widened, her face flushed. "Really?"
Wow, she was more into this than I thought she would be. "Yeah, sure," I said, "Actually, that's what's been on my mind all day - we might need to relocate."
"Why? What's wrong?"
"Um, William is asking questions," I said, "About you, mainly, so they thought it would be better if we relocated for a couple of years - maybe study somewhere."
"So I get to finish school?" she said, "And you get to go to college?"
"Actually, I might have to go to school again - just the last year or so. Last time I had any proper education it was thirteen years ago. Sure, I remember most of it, but things change and I need to update and whatnot."
She snickered. "You at school," she retorted, "With me. That should be interesting."
I rolled my eyes. "I'm not letting you go alone in some foreign country anyway."
She raised an eyebrow. "Why? Afraid I might get some extensive paper cut?"
I narrowed my eyes at her. "Very funny."
She laughed, hard. "Seriously, Tommy, I'll be fine. But," she said, "If you want to go to school, too, I suppose it would be more fun if we did it together."
"Are you sure about this, Allie?" I asked, "It's a huge decision. Relocating, starting over.."
"You're kidding, right?" she said, "I can finally be somewhere else, away from everything, and start over and start depending on myself instead of everyone else - it's perfect."
"Alison," I said, my tone more serious, "Do you want to be on your own? We could relocate, still, but you could also live indep-"
She cut me off. "Don't be ridiculous," she said, "I love you, and I love them. You're all my family now, I don't want to be away - just, depend on myself more."
As soon as she uttered the words, my phone rang. I picked it up - it was Alice. "It's settled!" she said, "We're going to Oxford, England. I can see it - well, at least until you two arrive. We're packing right now, and Esme is buying the house I saw," she said, "Do you want more details or should I wait to tell you?" I looked at Allie's excited face, amused, putting Alice on speakers even though I knew Allie could hear anyway.
"Tell us!" She leaned forward in her seat.
Alice squaled a little. "Okay, so you two will be going to Magdalen College School - straight to sixth form, which is the last two years of school," she said, "But you'll start next year. This year you're both getting your O-Levels from home, so you can be caught up with everything," she explained, "We're all excited," she said, "Rose and Emmett especially." Dammit, I hadn't told her about that.
"Yeah, Alice, of course," I said quickly, "Why don't I call you later so you could tell us all about the paperwork?"
"Oh!" she said, "Okay! You'll call me tomorrow." She hung up.
I smiled at Allie. "So, Oxford."
She stood up, sprinted to my side, wrapping her arms around me from behind, kissing my cheek. "Oxford!"
