This is late and I'm sorry. Also, it's a short chapter, but it gets super cute toward the end. There's also a surprise toward the end too.
Thanks for reading and reviewing!

Chapter 20
Monday:
A week later, Kurt still hadn't read the note from Blaine. It was their last week of school before their holiday break, and Kurt felt worse and worse every day.
"Blaine was going to come to my house for Christmas Eve, because that's when my family celebrates. Then I was going to go to his house on Christmas because that's when they celebrate it. We planned it right before we broke up," Kurt explained to Tina as they walked to fourth period. His class was near hers, and they made it accustom to walk together.
"Did you get him anything?" Tina asked.
"Yeah, I did. Well, I didn't buy it, I made it. I'm still working on it, but I don't even know if I should give it to him. We obviously can't be with each other still," Kurt said.
Tina shrugged. "Well, I guess you'll have to see how you're both feeling by then. Have you spoken to him at all?"
"Not since last week. He kind of cornered me on Friday and asked if I had read the note that he gave me. I said 'not yet' and he told me that it would be great if I read it," Kurt informed her.
"You haven't read that yet, Kurt?!" Tina questioned.
"A stupid little note isn't going to convince me to be his boyfriend again, so what's the point," Kurt defended himself.
"Maybe the note explains why he isn't ready to break up with Rachel yet. Why don't you just read it?"
They reached Tina's classroom, and Kurt said goodbye without answering her question. He quickly reached his own classroom and sat down in his regular seat. He dug through his binder to find the note from Blaine, which he began to carry everywhere with him. Because, although he did not know what the note contained, it made him feel cared for.
He found the note and held it in his hand for a few seconds, then he put it right back where it was without reading it. Mr. Schuester noticed him do this every day since the week before, and he always gave him a concerned look, but Kurt never noticed.
The class went by fast, and before he knew it, he was in the cafeteria with Tina for lunch. The two of them, plus Mercedes, now sat at their own table, while Artie sat with Blaine and Rachel at the old table. They asked Artie to join them, but he found himself becoming good friends with Blaine, and he didn't want to leave him.
Kurt, Mercedes, and Tina sat halfway across the cafeteria. They purposely chose to sit far away so Kurt wouldn't have to look at Blaine constantly. The girls forced Kurt to face the right side of the cafeteria because Blaine was on the left side. But, sometimes, Kurt would turn around just to glance at him. And, no matter what, Blaine was always looking at Kurt. Even when Rachel or Artie spoke to him, he was staring right at Kurt. When Kurt caught Blaine staring, it didn't stop him. He continued to look at him longingly from his seat. He always looked sad.
Kurt stood up to throw away his trash, and Blaine stood up as well. He met Kurt at the garbage can and didn't even try to act like it was an accident.
"Hey," he said as he approached Kurt. He threw out an empty paper bag and then watched as Kurt threw out a juice box. He noticed Kurt's marked arms as he was dropping the garbage into the can.
Kurt tried to walk away without saying anything, but Blaine lightly grabbed him by the shoulder. Kurt sighed sharply to seem annoyed, but he secretly liked the effort that Blaine put into talking to him.
"What?" Kurt asked. Blaine's eyes looked straight into Kurt's.
He slid his grip down to Kurt's wrists, but never took his eyes off of Kurt's eyes. "Hey," he said very softly. "Even though we aren't boyfriends right now, you can still come to me if you need me," he whispered to Kurt. "I don't like to think that you're going through rough patches by yourself."
Kurt knew that he was talking about the newly formed cuts on his arm. He pulled his arm away from Blaine. "Thanks," he said swiftly.
"You'll be at glee club tomorrow, right?" Blaine asked.
"Yeah, of course," Kurt responded tiredly.
Blaine nodded. "Okay. See ya," he said, then walked away.
Kurt walked back to his table. Tina and Mercedes leaned in when he sat down. "What'd he say?" Mercedes asked immediately.
"Just hey," Kurt lied.
Mercedes and Tina looked at each other and then silently decided to drop the topic.
Tina went on to talk about a song she wanted to sing for glee club, and Mercedes encouraged her to do so.
Kurt turned around to see Blaine, who was looking right at him. Kurt gave him a small smile, which was immediately returned. He liked to see the way Blaine's eyes crinkled when he smiled really big.
After lunch, Kurt walked to chemistry alone, but he knew Blaine was trailing closely behind him. Chem was the hardest class to go through because they sat right next to each other. They shared one lab table. They were so close that Blaine could read Kurt's tiny hand writing without even moving his head an inch toward Kurt's notebook.
The closeness should make Kurt feel uncomfortable, but it, instead, did the opposite.
When the class was over, Kurt purposely slowed down to try and walk right in front of Blaine. Noticing this, Blaine quickened his pace to meet Kurt. They walked silently next to each other, not even acknowledging one another. Out of the corner of his eye, Kurt could see Blaine smiling like an idiot.
They quickly reached Kurt's locker and Blaine stopped for a split second. "Read the note tonight," he whispered slowly, looking into Kurt's ocean-colored eyes. Kurt gave him the slightest nod, promising he would.
Kurt walked to Tina's locker, then walked with her and Mercedes to their buses. He felt anxious, knowing that he was finally going to read this note that was "so important" right when he got home.
Mercedes listened to music on her phone during the bus ride home, which made Kurt feel relieved because he couldn't speak. He just wanted to be home.
When the bus finally reached his stop, he jogged all the way home. He ran through the door and sat on the living room couch, taking off his backpack in the process. Then, he dug through his bag to find the note. As soon as his hand touched the piece of paper, he heard a noise in the kitchen and he froze.
"Dad?" he called out.
"Yeah, in here," Burt responded quickly. Kurt sighed. He was relieved that it was his dad and not a burglar, but he'd prefer that it was no one.
He put the note down on the coffee table, put his bag over the note, and walked into the kitchen. He felt anxious, and he had to remind himself that his dad would be gone in less than an hour, and then he would be left alone to read the note in peace. He didn't want to read it with his father home just in case he cried. He had no idea that was said in that note and he didn't want to take any chances.
"Hey, guess what," Burt said as Kurt sat down at the table.
"What?" Kurt asked.
"I have the whole afternoon off!" Burt exclaimed. Of course he does.
"Really?" Kurt said with fake enthusiasm. "Why?"
"I just needed a break, you know. Want to do pizza for dinner? I know you love going out for pizza," Burt asked. Kurt felt a sting in his heart. He loved going out to pizza with Blaine.
Kurt had to agree, though. He tried to tell himself, pizza is pizza, no matter who I'm with.
"Yeah, sure. Let me just go upstairs and get some homework done, and I'll be down in time for pizza," Kurt suggested.
"Nah, why don't you let your homework slide for tonight? I won't be mad at you. I mean, you have all A's anyway. Let's spend the afternoon together. When do we ever get the chance to do this?" Burt said in his happiest voice.
Kurt was suddenly reminded of how much his dad loves him. He'd never seen him happier than when he gets to be with Kurt.
"Sure, dad. What do you want to do until dinner time?" Kurt asked.
"Let me make us some hot chocolate and we'll sit in the living room and watch TV. And we can talk," Burt suggested.
"Okay. But, I'm better at making hot chocolate, so let me do it," Kurt joked. He took two mugs out of his father's hands and laughed.
"I'll go find something on TV that we would both enjoy. Maybe Cake Boss is on," Burt said. He went into the living room as Kurt made the hot chocolate.
It took him a total of five minutes to make two cups. It would've taken his dad ten minutes.
He walked into the living room holding the mugs in both hands. "Careful, this is hot still. Don't burn your tongue," Kurt cautioned.
"Thanks, kiddo," Burt said.
Kurt lifted his backpack off of the coffee table, forgetting that the note was underneath it.
"I think something fell out of your bag," Burt said, pointing at the note.
Kurt gave a quick oh and snatched the note from the table. "What is that?" Burt questioned.
"Just a note," Kurt answered quickly. He stuffed it into his bag.
Burt shrugged and turned on the TV. They flipped through channels until they finally settled on cartoons.
"So, what's going on with you, Kurt?" Burt asked casually at the start of commercials.
Kurt shrugged. "Nothing, really," he lied.
"It was nice to have those two girls over on Saturday. Tina and Mercedes, they're very nice," Burt commented.
"Yeah, they're good friends," Kurt replied.
"Who's your best friend?" Burt asked.
"Why do you ask?" Kurt said back.
"I'm just curious. Is it Tina or Mercedes or both of them or neither?" Burt asked.
Kurt knew that his dad was just trying to get Kurt to mention Blaine. He sighed and gave in. "It's Blaine. Blaine is my best friend," Kurt admitted.
"Oh. That's strange that he's your best friend and you haven't seen him in a couple weeks," Burt said, pushing the conversation further.
Kurt rolled his eyes. "I see him at school," he said.
"And he's still your best friend even though you don't talk to him anymore?" Burt pushed.
"How would you know how much I talk to anyone?" Kurt responded.
"Because I heard you talking to Tina on the phone the other night, telling her that you haven't talked to Blaine at all," Burt said.
"Blaine and I are fine," Kurt lied.
"Is he still coming Christmas Eve?"
"I don't know."
"What's going on with the two of you?" Burt questioned.
Kurt snapped. "Okay. Yes, Dad, I love Blaine. Are you happy?" he blurted out. His eyes widened. He shocked himself.
"I'm sorry?" Burt responded.
Kurt took a deep sigh. "Blaine needed space so he could collect himself and become comfortable with himself. It wasn't helping to see me every day. I got mad at him for fake dating some girl, and I'm still mad at him for not breaking up with her. And, sometimes I'm worried that he likes being with her more than me. I've been ignoring him, but I have to read that note from him that I just put in my bag because he says it's important but I was scared to read it because I don't want to fall in love with him even more than I already am if it's not going to work out, you know? But I have to read the note because I miss him and I want everything to be okay again," Kurt explained in one breath.
Burt took a second to take everything in. "You know what? Let's get pizza and bring it home, we can eat here. I'll go pick up some pizza, and you take all the time you need to read that note. I'll be back," Burt said. He stood up and kissed Kurt's head, then put on a large winter coat and walked out the door. Kurt felt pressure on him. He took out the note and took another deep breath.
His hands were shaking as he unfolded the paper.
There were less words on the note than he expected. It simply read:
Kurt,
Everyone needs someone. And, I don't mean everyone needs to be in a relationship because that's not true. But, everyone needs someone to talk to and to laugh with and to cry to.
You were right. I'm not as tough as I seem. That's because I need someone. I need you.
