-J.C.

I was welcomed home by the entire family and though I could tell they were curious, none of them wanted to pry. When I changed into pajamas and went to bed that night, I really wanted to focus on how to move forward. Charlie seemed nice and I liked him and I want to get to know him better but to me, he'll never be my dad. I already have a great dad and a great mom and I didn't need another parent. I wasn't sure how that would work.

Still, when next Friday rolled around I was back at the lodge eating dinner with him. I found it was easier this time as he didn't bombard me with questions. I told him about my week at school which, aside from a new English paper, was fairly uneventful. Then he told me about his week. Apparently, there'd been a murder that week in town and that was very rare for Forks. It was the details of that murder that caught my attention,

"It's almost like an an animal attack but there are no tracks of any kind. I should say anything else, I don't wanna scare you, but you should stay out of the forests."

"Will do," she had sad weakly but inside her mind was screaming. That sounded like a vampire attack to her.

When Charlie dropped her off back at home she agreed to another dinner and then got inside as fast as she could and again, her entire family was gathered and she knew why. Edward came to wrap his arms around her.

"A vampire attack?" I practically shrieked.

"So it would seem," Carlisle answered, looking slightly distressed.

"Well, Alice, did you see who it was?" I asked, noticing she was standing in the corner with Jasper, frowning.

"No," she responded. "I wasn't looking for any vampires to be around here. I have no idea." She looked quite disappointed in herself.

"Well, they've only attacked one person," Mom chimed in. Everyone seemed to perk up at this but I didn't get it.

"Meaning?" I demanded. Esme replied calmly,

"Meaning it was probably just somebody stopping through that decided to hunt along the way."

I looked to Alice who looked extremely stressed. "It's possible." I relaxed a little.

"But why would they not stop by here?" Dad asked. "Surely they smelled our scents?" I tensed again.

"Of course, but if it was a nomad they may have been intimidated by the number of scents. We are quite large, even compared to other covens. A standard coven is usually three or four. They may not be used to so many of us," said Carlisle and I relaxed again.

"True and thankfully, it was clearly not a newborn so we may not see any more murders come up. There probably gone," Edward commented, seeming to take this all as a perfectly rational explanation. I looked up at his comforting face and that was enough to soothe me completely.

As my fear calmed though, I became extremely exhausted. Edward helped me upstairs and once I had changed and we were both in bed, I began to worry again. Mainly about Charlie and Edward could tell. He held me close and murmured,

"Don't worry, love. If anything else happens, Alice will know and we'll take care of it but I don't anything else will happen. Relax."

"I know, I know," I said, reassured.

"Good, because I don't want you worried for tomorrow," he said.

I asked, "What's tomorrow?"

I could almost feel his smile in the dark. "Well, it's going to be a sunny day so I thought I could take you somewhere special that I used to go to."

Special? Where could he go on a sunny day? "Oh, okay. Is it a surprise or can you tell me?"

"It's a surprise."

"Darn."

He chuckled. "Alright, love. Sleep, now."

"I'm not really tired," I lied.

"Well, try to sleep for me, love." He began to hum my lullaby and I was gone.

I was being chased by someone. I was running but it was no use. He was much faster than I'd ever be. We were in a forest and I was drenched in sweat. Suddenly he was no longer behind me but instead right in front of me. I stopped short. There, with his hard porcelain skin and his blood red eyes stood the vampire I'd been running from all along. James.

I woke up slightly disoriented. I was trying to hold on to my dream but it was quickly fading away. It was in a forest, right? Or was it?

"Morning, love. Ready to go out today?" I opened my eyes and saw Edward's gorgeous, smiling face looking at me with love and any memory of my dream disappeared as he leaned down to kiss me softly.

Once he pulled away, and I remembered how to breath, I responded, "Sure. How should I dress?" I desperately wanted to know where we were going. I wasn't in to surprises.

"Comfortably. I think Alice hung something on the inside of your closet door for you to wear if you want," he responded.

I narrowed my eyes. "Alice gets to know and I don't?"

He shrugged. "Take it up with whoever gave her visions."

I groaned and slid out of bed, walking slowly over to my closet. Sure enough, she'd hung something out for me. I was surprised, though, to see that it actually was comfortable clothing since that really wasn't Alice's thing. Hanging up were a pair of jeans and a comfy black t-shirt. I quickly dressed and then Edward took me to the kitchen were I promptly had a bowl of cereal before he led me out to the back hard were the forest was.

"The forest?" I asked as he scooped me up.

He nodded and murmured, "You may want to close your eyes."

I did so and then he took off. I was never particularly fond of this form of travel because I was always worried about running into things but nobody ever did. I could feel the wind brush aggressively against me and every once and awhile I could hear the chirp of a bird over the wind but that was it. Suddenly, the wind came to a stop. I could feel sun on my face.

"Okay, love. Open your eyes."

Slowly, I did and what I saw what breathtaking. He was standing in a wide, sunny, and flowery meadow and it was beautiful.

He sat me down. "This is where I used to come when it was sunny out and I wasn't going to hunt," he explained quietly.

"Oh, Edward..." I began but stopped, speechless.

He nodded and took my hand, leading me to the center of the flowered beauty. He gently sat down on the ground and brought me with him.

"There's something about this sort of nature," he murmured, "It seems to make everything seems simple and wonderful."

"I couldn't have said it better," I murmured and for the first time, I truly looked at him and saw his shining body. Sparkling and glowing like a thousand little diamonds. He was magnificent. I moved my hand up to his face to gently touch his hard skin.

"You're...amazing," I said, knowing that no word I could ever use would do him justice. He gently caressed my cheek as well.

"As are you."

We spent the day there, talking about everything and nothing in the world. Enjoying the gorgeous sun while we still had it around to enjoy. I felt as though no matter how much time I spent there, it might never be enough for me. We spent a great deal of the time intertwined, kissing, which just like the meadow, I would never get my fill of.

All too soon the sun began to set. "We should go," Edward whispered as I sit in his lap, my head resting on the crook of his neck. I didn't want to leave but I knew he was right.

"Promise we'll come back soon?" I asked.

"Promise," he vowed.

I nodded. "Okay." With ease, he was standing once more with me in his arms. I took one last good look at my gorgeous surroundings before I closed my eyes and we were off.
