Chapter 28

Saturday

Kurt woke up and turned over to see that Blaine wasn't lying in bed with him anymore. He sat up on his elbow and looked around the room. Blaine was sitting at Kurt's desk looking at framed photos.

"Good morning. What are you doing?" Kurt asked. Blaine jumped a little.

"Oh, hey. Just looking at your pictures. I just woke up about twenty minutes ago. Is this you?" Blaine asked, holding up a small frame.

"Yeah. I was eight," Kurt answered sleepily.

"You look really happy," Blaine stated.

"Isn't everyone happy at that age?" Kurt replied.

"Yeah. When does that stop happening?"

"When does what stop happening?" Kurt questioned.

"At what age does everyone stop being happy?" Blaine asked. Kurt felt like something was wrong, but maybe Blaine just liked to get personal early in the morning.

"Not everyone does stop. Some people are happy for a long time," Kurt said.

"When did you stop?" Blaine asked. Kurt's face got red.

"What makes you think I'm not happy now? I'm happy with you and I'm happy with where our lives are heading," Kurt offered.

"I don't know. I think you're satisfied, but not so happy. You're satisfied with the little life we have going. But deep down inside of you, something is preventing you from being happy. You have this look in your eyes that says I'm not okay. But, in this picture, you don't have that look. So I'm wondering when that started," Blaine examined.

"Way to start off the day, Blaine," Kurt said sarcastically.

"Sorry, I just worry about you a lot. I desperately wish there was something I could do to make you look happy all the time. I mean, that day I kissed you at your secret lake, you looked happy. And when I snuck you out of the house at midnight the other week, you looked happy. But, I can't make that look last long. I just want you to be okay," Blaine said.

Kurt lied back down and closed his eyes. Blaine crawled back into the bed to lay with him. "I love you," he said.

"I love you, too," Kurt said back. They nearly fell back asleep when Kurt's phone rang, waking them up.

"It's Tina. She's coming today with Mercedes," Kurt informed him.

"They've been acting strange all week. They keep whispering and then when they see that I've noticed, they just smile and act like everything's alright. I wonder what's going on with them," Blaine said.

"Yeah, I noticed Tina was being really weird at glee rehearsal the other day. I guess we'll see what's up with them when they get here," Kurt said.

"Let's go out for bagels before they come," Blaine said suddenly.

"I'm always down for a good bagel," Kurt said back. Luckily, the bagel place was right around the corner, so they walked. After they ordered their bagels, Blaine insisted on paying, and then they sat down at a little table in the corner.

"My dad has to go to my uncle's house tonight to fix something, but he lives pretty far so he'll either be home really late or stay over their house tonight," Kurt told Blaine.

"Okay. How long are Tina and Mercedes staying?"

"They said they just needed to stop by," Kurt answered. Blaine nodded his head.

They finished their bagels and went back home to tidy up before the girls came over.

Tina texted Kurt, "We're on our way," at about one. When they got to Kurt's house they hugged him tightly and hugged Blaine, too.

"Do you want to go eat lunch in the kitchen?" Kurt asked everything.

"Yeah, that'd be great," Tina replied.

They followed Kurt into the kitchen and he made them each a peanut butter sandwich that he cut diagonally for everyone. He cut off the crust for Blaine, knowing he doesn't like that part.

They all sat at the table, Mercedes and Tina across from Blaine and Kurt.

"To what do we owe this visit?" Blaine asked. Tina and Mercedes looked at each other nervously. Mercedes was the one to speak up.

"We wanted to talk to you guys about something serious, and we thought it would be inappropriate to bring it up in school," she began. Kurt suddenly felt really nervous. Whatever they were here for, it didn't sound good.

"Is everything okay with you guys?" Blaine asked with concern. Kurt smiled, thinking it was typical of Blaine to make sure everyone's alright.

"Everything's fine with us," Tina stammered out slowly.

"Okay," Kurt said. "So what's up?"

"We just wanted to make sure that you're okay, Kurt," Mercedes continued.

"That I'm okay about what?" he asked innocently.

"I saw your wrists," Tina blurted out. Her face burned up, as did Kurt's. Blaine grabbed Kurt's hand underneath the table and held it tight.

After no one spoke for what seemed like forever, Tina explained herself. "Why are you hurting yourself?" she questioned.

"I'm- I'm not," Kurt stuttered back.

"Kurt, you can tell us the truth," Mercedes promised.

"You guys wouldn't understand," Kurt argued.

"We just want to help you," Tina bawled.

"I don't need any help," Kurt shouted, rising from his seat. He walked out of the kitchen and stormed upstairs. Blaine sighed.

"I'll take care of him. You girls go home," Blaine said. He walked Tina and Mercedes to the front door. "Listen, don't tell anyone about this. Kurt doesn't like to receive help from others. He can handle this on his own. But, thank you for your concern."

He nearly pushed them out the door before they could speak. He knew their intentions were good, but if anyone should be helping Kurt, it would be him.

He cleaned up the kitchen and threw out the sandwiches that were barely touched. He wrapped his and Kurt's up for later.

He wasn't sure if he should bother Kurt or leave him be. He carefully walked up the stairs and stood outside Kurt's room.

"They're gone. Do you want me to come in or go downstairs?" Blaine asked gently through the door.

"You can come in," Kurt answered. Blaine opened the door, walked in, and shut it behind him. The room was dark because the curtains were closed and the sky was gloomy anyway. Candles were lit around Kurt's bed.

Kurt lied on the bed with his eyes closed. Blaine crawled up next to him.

"I told them that you don't need anyone's help. You can handle everything on your own because you're brave and tough," Blaine whispered.

"You were right this morning. I am always sad and I don't know how to make it go away," Kurt admitted.

Blaine rubbed Kurt's arm gently.

"I'm especially sad that Tina saw. I hate my scars. They are the ugliest thing about me," Kurt moaned.

"Hey, that's not true. Absolutely nothing about you is even close to ugly. You're the most beautiful person I've ever met in my whole life," Blaine confessed.

Kurt remained silent, although his heart was screaming. Blaine sat up and kissed Kurt's cheek. Then, he kissed Kurt's hand. He looked up at Kurt and kissed the scar farthest down on his arm, then continued kissing every mark after that. He made his way up Kurt's arm and then moved to his neck, sucking at the skin. Kurt held his breath, scared to make a wrong move. The way Blaine was moving and holding him made everything feel better. He let out a gasp when Blaine continued sucking.

He moved his way up to Kurt's jaw, and placed kisses all the way up to his lips. Kurt felt like he was on fire. He couldn't even remember anything that had just happened before Blaine walked into his room. His pink lips grazed over Blaine's until Blaine moved just a bit closer to solidify the kiss. Kurt immediately slipped his tongue through Blaine's mouth. He listened to the sounds of the kiss, each breath Blaine took and every moan that escaped Blaine's lips. Blaine separated from Kurt and they both opened their eyes and he could see it. He saw the sparkling in Kurt's cyan eyes that promised happiness.
