Read & Review!
Ao Ao: a voracious sheep-like creature with a massive set of fangs. Its name is derived from the sound that it makes, howling "Ao ao ao!" when it is pursuing its victims. Ao Ao is said to have humans as its sole source of food. Upon locating a victim for its next meal, will pursue the unfortunate human over any distance and over any terrain, not stopping until it has had its meal. If a person attempts to escape by climbing a tree, for example, the Ao Ao will circle the tree, howling incessantly and digging at the roots until the tree falls.
No One's POV
Patricia paced back and forth in front of the rest of the house as they watched her. All the Anubis residents were sitting in the lounge for their free period.
"Shouldn't they be back by now?" Patricia asked worriedly.
"Patricia, we don't know how this works. This could be normal," Jerome spoke softly.
"This isn't normal!" Nina screamed as she clung to a thick tree branch. The Ao Ao circled around the tree she was in, digging at the roots.
"You don't think we know that!" Eddie yelled back. Nina let out a loud shriek as the tree began to lean.
"Jump to another tree!" KT shrieked at her as Nina listened.
"Why's it always me?" she whined loudly as the sheep-like creature moved to the new tree she was in. "The Supernaturals are getting stronger! We could actually have a higher chance of dying."
"They shouldn't even have that high of a chance at dying; I mean, they've been doing this awhile. Death shouldn't happen," Alfie spoke softly. The residents hesitantly agreed as Fabian tried to get Patricia to sit down. Willow entered the lounge and let out a huff.
"I was walking by the woods and I heard screaming," Willow said in a vexatious tone as Patricia jumped up again.
"See! I told you guys they should be back by now!" Patricia shrieked.
"Maybe it's not normal for them to be gone so long but they don't need help," Joy tried to soothe Patricia's nerves.
"We need help," KT hissed in Eddie's ear as he tried to get a shot on the Ao Ao.
"You think I don't know that!" he snapped as Nina jumped to a different tree again. "Crap." They got up from their position in the bushes and moved to a new spot.
"Should I call it in?" KT questioned. Eddie bit his lip as he adjusted the crossbow in his hands.
"KT, there's no help here. It's not America, we don't have friends that are hunters," he spoke to her softly.
"I can set off a sensor," she suggested. He shook his head, still watching Nina.
"The only ones who would get the alert would be us and...no," he shook his head, realizing what she was suggesting.
"You're only saying that cause you don't want to put Patricia in danger," she muttered.
"Patricia, Eddie wouldn't want you in danger. So stay here with the rest of the girls," Jerome begged her.
"Why does Fabian get to go?" She scowled angrily.
"Because he's supposedly a boy," Jerome replied.
"Well you can't go unarmed and I know where the spare key to their trunks are. So, us girls are going," Amber spoke with a flip of her hair.
"They don't need us! If they did they'd find a way to tell us," Joy whined. A beeping sound came on as all of them turned to Fabian. He held out the beeping pager as the Anubis residents dashed out of the lounge.
"Don't!" Eddie hissed as he tried to snatch the slingshot from KT's grip.
"We need help!" she screamed at him, trying to aim.
"Not from our friends, who don't know anything about Supernaturals AND my girlfriend, who's stubborn enough to try to do what I do," he rolled his eyes.
"Well considering I'm the one who needs help, I should get final say," Nina called down from the tree she was clinging to.
"I don't like this," Eddie said as KT set off the alarm.
"I don't like this," Willow spoke softly. Amber was dragging out the trunks under KT and Nina's bed as Alfie and Jerome carried up the one from Eddie's room.
"Now Amber, where's the spare key?" Patricia questioned.
"I know where Nina's is but it takes too much work so I'll go get Eddie's," she smiled happily as she headed out of her room. Patricia followed her to Eddie's room as Amber climbed on top of Eddie's computer chair. She grabbed down a medium sized metal safe as she hopped off the chair. Amber punched in the numbers 25-1-3-11-5-19 as the safe popped open.
"How'd you know the combination?" Patricia questioned.
"It's Yacker spelled out in numbers," Amber grinned as she dumped out all the contents. Amber handed her a photo as Patricia examined it. It was of Eddie, Nina, and KT sitting under a tree, smiling at the camera. Setting the photo down, Patricia watched as Amber sorted through the papers. Patricia looked through them, identifying them as identification files, weapons licenses, and a hunter information guide. Amber handed Patricia another object as she looked at it with confusion. It was a black leather journal with two buckles on it so it would stay closed. The goth pixie traced the golden letters on the cover that read "logbook".
"What do you think it says?" Yacker asked, turning to the blonde.
"Probably his hunts, the feelings during it, what all happened, anything that happened that day. It's most likely a memoir. He probably talks about you in there," Amber smiled finally finding the key.
"Come on." They rushed upstairs and opened the door.
"Woah," Alfie gasped as the trunks opened.
"What do we need?" Joy asked as everyone shrugged.
"We need a tranquilizer gun," Eddie told KT as he fired a missed shot at the Ao Ao.
"We can text the gang," KT suggested.
"Since they're already involved, go ahead," Eddie sighed.
Patricia's phone buzzed as she grabbed it from her back pocket.
From: KT
We need a tranquilizer gun! Hurry!
"Tranquilizer gun and a stake for safety," the goth muttered.
"We have to go!" Fabian exclaimed as they all raced out the door.
"Eddie!" Nina shrieked as the tree she was in began to fall.
"I can't get a good shot!" he yelled back. Nina was finally out of trees to jump to. She clung to the falling tree as it finally came crashing down. To avoid being crushed, she jumped down to where the Ao Ao was. Tackling and pinning her to the ground, she let out a shrill scream.
"Eddie shoot!" she screamed desperately.
"I don't have a clear shot! I could hit you!" he shouted back. Drool dripped onto Nina's face as she struggled under its weight.
"Let me go!" Nina screamed. The Ao Ao's face moved closer to Nina's as she let out a struggled cry.
"Eddie!" Fabian called as the rest of the Anubis residents came running up to him.
"Give me this!" Eddie shouted, snatching the tranquilizer gun from Patricia.
"Eddie! KT!" Nina shouted in a last attempt. Eddie positioned the gun and fired three shots. The Ao Ao's limp body rolled off of Nina. The dirty blonde laid motionless for a second before shakily sitting up. Her hair was a frizzy mess, tears rolling down her face as she tried to get up. KT walked towards her, helping her up silently. Patricia glanced at Eddie as she walked to him slowly.
"Eddie?" she whispered as he turned to her. "Are you ok?"
"My best friend almost died because I couldn't get a stupid shot," he whispered, more to himself than to her. That's when Yacker realized it. He was in shock, feeling guilty, blaming himself.
"It's not your fault," she spoke softly. He broke from his frozen trance, bounding over to Nina and KT.
"I'm sorry," he whispered, wrapping Nina in a tight hug.
"It's fine," she breathed shakily.
"Are you okay?" he asked as the rest of the Anubis residents surrounded them.
"Yea, I mean, for the most traumatic moment of my life I'm doing fine. Nothing a few years of counseling can't fix," she joked, forcing out a laugh.
"You almost died!" Amber exclaimed, suddenly very aware of the situation.
"Yea," Nina spoke, letting go of Eddie.
