A/N: here we goooo, get ready for feels galore I'm afraid,,,,
Disclaimer: In no way do I own starship or any of the characters, except Saki, Marz and Nord
"Taz!" Krayonder yelled. The Mexican glared at him. "What're you doing?"
"Trying to get outta this stupid bed that's what!" She was wriggling underneath a belt keeping her strapped into the bed. She knew nothing of Up except they found him last night and brought him in. Krayonder, Tootsie, Mega-Girl and Specs were all with her, and except from brief updates from Saki they didn't know the full extent of Up's injuries. Taz had a concussion from her trip down the vents and had only stopped seeing double recently.
"Sorry Lieutenant – we're under strict orders from Nurse Saki to keep you here."
"Saki doesn't mean dat-" Taz began but then glared at the three people and mega-girl unit in her area of the hospital sectioned off by a clean creamy coloured curtain. "I have to see Up!"
"The Nurse has informed us that you might become distressed with the Commander's condition." Mega-Girl bluntly informed her. "Which is why I've been put on watch tonight, Lieutenant."
"No way is dis tin can taking care of me. I'd rather have Candy-Ass do it!" Taz hissed. Tootsie frowned as Taz insulted his wife, and Krayonder's face fell into the "Please please don't call me candy ass face".
The curtain was drawn back and Saki stepped in, followed by two men.
"Taz, this is-" Saki began, but was then cut off.
"Hello Commander." The first man looked directly at Taz.
"Wh-"
"Commander Up asked us to promote your rank." The second one smiled slightly. He had light sandy hair compared to his darker haired friend.
"Can we see him?" Krayonder asked.
"Is he better?" Taz cut in.
"Before we begin all that-" the darker haired man looked at them. "My name is Commander Marz, and I'm the new head of the Galactic lead-"
"What happened to Dr. Space-Claw?"
"After you all exposed him he's now awaiting trial on crimes against humanity." The other man informed them. "I'm Commander Nord, the new Deputy Leader, now that Junior Space-Claw has died." He added to their confused faces.
"You've all probably saved this whole Academy from Space-Claw's evil grip." Marz continued. "Which is why we did decide to grant Commander Up's dying wish-"
Shocked gasps rippled through the room like a rock had been dropped into a bucket of water. Up had…. Had died?!
"NO!" Taz screeched as Tootsie and Krayonder pinned her arms down to stop her from finding a way out. The tiny woman started to babble in Spanish and the two men looked away. Saki made her way to her patient and shook her head.
"What's that?" Specs asked, as she dipped the needle into Taz's forearm.
"A light tranquilizer, her distress won't help her head wound from going through the vents." Saki murmured.
"Please….Up…." the Hispanic 25 year old looked around, before falling asleep. The rest of the room stood staring at her sleeping form. Nobody knew what to do anymore.
Two months later
Taz sat staring out of the window of the academy, looking out around the grounds. She didn't leave her room at all, and Krayonder brought her meals and brief updates on what was happening. If she left the room, she'd be forced to walk the same corridors that she'd walked with Up, forced to be see his face in every comforting one she saw. Rick and Kit had come down once, but they left. Everyone left her - except for Krayonder and Specs. They were getting married soon, and Taz couldn't even go to that, despite it being Candy-Ass' wedding. Up's departure had left her ripped apart.
It was the robot half that had killed him in the end.
Water and Mechanics don't mix well, do they. She hadn't realized as they ran through the corridors clearing the survivors that he was dying. She hadn't realized that the death wish mission was just so he could tell her that he loved her. She hadn't realized that Up was going to die, and even now she didn't accept the fact.
Up died of an electric shock from the robotic half; The Robots didn't kill him in the end, his robot "life-saver" did.
Taz couldn't even go to his funeral. Rick and Kit took his body to earth, and buried him in the nearest cemetery near his childhood home. Taz knew she had to get down there one day, she'd lost Gabrielle and Up. No doubt they were both watching her from above. Up would probably be angry, with Gabby's death being her fault. But Taz knew he wouldn't hold a grudge. If anyone was holding grudges it should be her. He left her here.
She did however manage to go to his memorial service, that almost every single member of the starship rangers were attending. He was given full military honours. The ensign and the cadets stood pale faced and sweaty, they were some part of the reason he was gone. But Taz was stood strong, for the most recent and final time she stood beside her commander, mentor and saviour and said goodbye. She was forced to write part of the eulogy, with Rick writing the first half and her writing the second. However she couldn't read it and so Rick read all of it, choking up at little details Taz had added like how he married Tootsie and Mega-Girl right away, how he accepted Bug without much of a second thought, how his careless attitude which so many loved eventually killed him.
"Taz?" Krayonder knocked on the door. "Dinners here." He put her food in front of her and sighed. "You only have another two weeks of leave."
That was when everything fit into place.
"I…I can't go back."
A/N: I'm finally wrapping this up L this is my first fanfiction, so I'm rather sad. I'll wrap it up finally next chapter. (And I'll leave you to cry now, sorry if I broke your feels!)
