Hello. Here's a new chapter. It's a bit short, but the end is important. A reviewer gave me a good idea, and for that, I thank you.

Chapter 53

"Tobias? What are we going to do when the initiates arrive in a few months?" I asked.

"What do you mean?" He replied, gently setting Carter back in her crib.

"With Carter." I explained. "Both of us will be training them and that takes up most of the day. Who will be taking care of Carter?"

"Good question. Maybe Christina could take her." Tobias offered. "She doesn't have to work since Will is a leader now."

I pondered this. Christina probably wouldn't want to take care of two infants at the same time. But maybe she would do it anyways, considering that I'm her best friend.

"I don't know if she'll be up to it, but I'll ask her."

"What do you think?" Tobias asked.

At first, I was confused. I had just told him what I thought. Turns out he was talking to our daughter, who was currently staring at him with wide gray eyes.

"Would you like to hangout out with Grayson all day?" he continued. "Just don't get too comfortable with him. You're not allowed to even think about boys until you're twenty." Tobias finished sternly.

I couldn't help but roll my eyes. "Good luck with that. The more you tell them to stay away the more they're going to try."

"But once they realize who her dad is they'll think twice about pursuing her." He informed me.

"Oh yeah." I joked. "I can see it now. 'Big bad Four is this girl's dad! I can't even look at her because he'll pummel me!' That's definitely what'll be going through every boy's mind."

"You know it will be." He said, not joking.

"Sure." I leaned over and grabbed my three week old daughter from her crib. "C'mon. We have to bring Carter to the infirmary."

"What? Why?" Tobias asked, suddenly alarmed.

"Calm down." I ordered. "Doctor Hart just wants to see if he can take the tubes out of her lungs yet."

At that, he relaxed. In my arms, Carter was snoozing. I gently rearranged her so that her head was resting on my shoulder. Tobias opened the door for me and I walked into the hallway. As we walked, Tobias held my free hand and talked softly about what we should do today. He didn't have to work and I didn't have to back to the tattoo parlor for another two weeks.

"I think that we should just sleep." I suggested. "You've been up for work. I've been up for Carter. Carter's been up because… well… because she wants to be. We all deserve some rest."

Tobias found no fault in that idea. He swung my hand around, now just talking about whatever came to mind, so that meant that he talked about Carter the whole time. He was a bit obsessed with her, always wanting to hold her or bring her wherever we go. Sometimes I had to literally pry her from his arms so that I could try and get her to sleep.

I checked us in as soon as we got to the infirmary. We were brought back almost immediately.

Since we've done this process before, I immediately handed Carter to Dr. Hart so that he could run a test. Silently, Tobias and I waited for the results. If they were positive, then Dr. Hart could remove the tubes. If not, we'd just have to wait a little longer.

Only a few minutes had gone by when the doctor returned, handing me my daughter before going to grab something from a drawer. A syringe with a light blue color.

"Carter's lungs are strong enough now to function by themselves." Dr. Hart informed us. "This injection will release a serum that will dissolve the tubes in her lungs. It may be uncomfortable for Carter so you're going to have to secure her so she doesn't move."

I did what he asked and waited for him to inject her. When he did, she cried out loudly. The sound broke my heart. It was over in seconds but Carter continued to wail. Try as I might, I couldn't calm her down. With pleading eyes, I looked at Tobias. He stretched out his arms and took the screaming bundle. He stood up and walked around the room, gently rocking her in his arms and whispering softly to her. It took only a minute for her cries to soften into quiet whimpers and sniffles.

"Thank you doctor." I said, and stood to join my two favorite people. As we left, I marveled at how good Tobias was with Carter. He went from being terrified of her to being the one person that can always calm her down.

I also marveled at the fact that the apartment door was open.

"Tobias, you did close the door when we left right?" I asked, confused at what I was seeing.

"Of course." He replied, equally confused.

The door creaked as I pushed it open. Its hinges were still intact, so whoever had broken in had picked the lock. At first, everything seemed fine. Everything was in order. But when I reached the nursery, I realized that everything was not fine.

It looked like a tornado had whipped through this room, and this room only. Every item on every shelf had been thrown to the floor.

"What the hell?" I whispered to myself.

So Tobias could set Carter down, I set the crib back up. Who would do this? It didn't make any sense. Someone broke in, didn't steal anything, and trashed the nursery.

As Tobias and I picked everything up, I thought of people who would possibly do this. It was definitely a woman. A man wouldn't attack a nursery. But we didn't have very many enemies who were girls. Tesa was dead. Bella was in Candor. Lauren has been keeping her distance. I couldn't think of anyone else.

After everything was back in place, Tobias led me into the living room. "I'll get the locks changed tomorrow." He told me.

"What's that going to do? They'll just pick the lock again."

Tobias had no response. He knew I was right.

Were we safe here?

-Page Break-

"I did it." the blonde said to her new friend. "I trashed their nursery."

"Great." Her friend replied. "We've instilled some fear. They'll be on their guard for a while and probably won't let Carter out of their sight. We'll have to wait a few days before we can take her."

"Where will we go?" the blonde questioned. "Obviously we can't stay here. They'll find us for sure."

"Don't worry about it. I have a place where we can go and they'll never find us."

"Why do you want to take Carter? I want a kid, but I have no idea why you're doing this." After a few minutes of silence, she spoke again. "Bella?"

Bella turned and looked at the woman addressing her. "Because Tris and Tobias humiliated me, Marlene. And I want some restitution."

Tell me what you think please! I love you guys.
