Guys I'm sorry it's been so long. Lately I've been so busy. I've been going to physical therapy and I just recently got cleared. But this is the last week of school so hopefully that will help.

Chapter 54

Tobias and I didn't take a day of rest like we had planned. Instead, we stayed up and kept a constant watch on the door. This is what happened for the next few days. It was exhausting but my daughter was obviously in danger. I had no idea who or why she was being targeted, but it didn't take rocket science to know that Tobias and I were part of the reason.

Tobias suggested that, since nothing has happened for nearly a week, we quit the constant vigilance. I was a little wearier. That could be exactly what whoever did this is waiting for.

Reluctantly, I agreed. Tobias would return to work and I'd stay home to look after Carter. If I needed to take shifts at the tattoo parlor then I'd drop off Carter at Christina's.

That's what I ended up doing. At around noon, Tori should up at my apartment and asked if I could come in. I said sure, but informed her that I needed to drop off Carter first.

After Christina let me in, I explained that I needed to go to work. She took Carter from me and told me not to worry about it. I took the opportunity to ask if she'd watch Carter during initiation. It surprised me that Christina didn't argue at all. She just sighed and accepted.

"What would I do without you Christina?" I asked her as I left.

"Well, you definitely would be very poorly dressed." She replied while laughing.

I ran back to Bella's apartment.

"Tris just dropped Carter off at Christina's!" I reported excitedly.

"Perfect." Bella said. "Now's our chance. Do you have your things packed?"

I nodded. After helping her finish packing the rest of her belongings, we set out towards Christina's apartment. I had to admit that I was very nervous. I managed to shove it down though. This is what I want. As long as I repeated that to myself, I was alright.

We made up a plan on our way. I would knock on the door. Christina would let me in. I'd leave the door open slightly, just enough so that it's not noticeable. When her guard was down I'd grab a lamp and hit her over the head with it.

Bella stayed hidden in a doorway so that Christina wouldn't notice her. Christina looked surprised to see me. I guess that I haven't been out much lately.

At the moment, Christina was holding Grayson. Her son wasn't the target and I didn't want him getting hurt so I knew that I couldn't strike now. Carter was sleeping in a carrier and I found myself staring at her.

Christina noticed my staring and shifted uncomfortably. "I'm sorry Marlene." She said. "I wasn't thinking. I can put Carter and Grayson in the bedroom."

"No!" I said a little too loudly. "No. It's fine."

Christina was looking at me with an odd gaze, as if she suspected what I was there for. Regardless of what I had said, she put Carter and Grayson in another room. I took the time to grab the lamp.

"So what did you-" Her words were cut off by me hitting her in the head. She immediately fell to the floor.

I stood there, not moving. Shock rippled through me. Had I really just done that? Had I stooped so low that I would steal my friend's baby just because I wanted one? I couldn't go through with this.

"Marlene?" I almost didn't hear Bella. "Is it done?"

I didn't answer her. Instead, I just stood there, bloody lamp in hand, still appalled at what I had just done.

"Good job." Bella said of my handiwork. "Where is Carter?"

I set down the lamp. "I can't go through with this." I whispered.

"Pardon?" Bella asked.

"I can't do it." I said louder. "Just because I want a child doesn't mean it's alright to steal my friend's."

Bella looked ready to slap me. Or murder. Or both. Her right eye was twitching and it was creeping me out. "Look Blondie." She said very angrily. "What kind of friends would have a child when they knew that you couldn't?"

"She was already pregnant!" I retorted.

Bella brushed off my response. "Tris didn't even want Carter. You'd be doing her a favor by taking Carter. C'mon. You can't back out now."

"Yes I can."

I heard her walking up behind me. Too bad I couldn't hear her raising the lamp.

Immediately after my shift, I went to Christina's to pick up my daughter. The door was open when I got there so I was a bit nervous. Had Christina left and just forgot to close the door? Or was something seriously wrong. Well, I guess that I'll find out.

"Christina?" I called out hesitantly while gently pushing the door open. I couldn't believe what I saw. Both Marlene and Christina were on the floor, blood trickling from gashes on their heads. A baby was crying in the bedroom and I could tell that it was Grayson. What confused me is that both of the babies weren't crying. If one was, surely the other would be too.

I momentarily left Christina and Marlene to go get my child. I looked in the bedroom and saw Grayson in his carrier, screaming at the top of his lungs. No other baby was in sight. I felt my pulse quicken.

Where was my daughter?

I rushed back into the living room. Marlene was starting to get up. What was she doing in Christina's apartment?

"Marlene, are you alright?"

She looked up at me confused, her hand cupping her forehead.

"Tris?" She gasped. Her breathing was heavy. "You've got to stop her."

"Stop who?" I asked. "Marlene, where's Carter?"

"Bella." She nearly whispered.

"What? Bella's here?" I almost shouted.

"She wanted to get revenge." She revealed. "On you and Tobias. I don't know where she's taking Carter. You have to hurry."

I was beginning to panic. Bella had my daughter. No one knew where she was.

"Marlene, you have to wake up Christina." I instructed. "I'll send someone over here and you're going to explain exactly what happened. I need to go find my daughter."

-Bella P.O.V-

Thank God it wasn't that long of a walk from Dauntless to my destination. Carter wouldn't stop crying. She was a little pain in the ass. She was lucky that I knew how to restrain myself. Otherwise, she'd be sitting in the middle of nowhere crying to no one.

I found my bag that I had left near a lonely tree. Inside of it were clothes you'd normally find a factionless person wearing. I quickly changed and stuffed my normal clothes back in it.

Unfortunately, just factionless clothes wouldn't actually make me look factionless. It would just make me badly dress. I messed up my hair then rubbed some dirt on my face. I also rubbed some dirt on Carter so her clothes wouldn't look new.

After ditching the carrier, I began my walk to Carter's new home.

I walked up to the house and knocked on the door. And couple probably in their late forties opened the door.

"Yes?" the woman asked.

"Hi," I said, making my voice sound strained. "I'm in trouble."

The couple ushered me inside, closing the door behind them.

"How can we help you?" the man asked.

"My parents are factionless, as am I. They told me you would help."

"Who are your parents?" The woman asked.

"They'd rather not have me say. They don't like asking for help." I said.

"Alright. We understand." The man said, looking from his wife to me.

"This is my daughter." I lied. "She's four weeks old. Her name is Carter."

"She's beautiful." The woman said, gazing into the infants eyes, obviously mesmerized. "She kind of looks like my daughter when she was a baby."

"Well, I was wondering if you could take care of her." Both looked taken aback. Before they could deny, I deepened the lie. "Her father is a horrible man. If he knew about her, he'd hurt her. Maybe even kill her."

As I said this, I knew that I had won them over. The perfect hiding spot for Carter was now in effect.

"Of course we'll keep her." The woman assured me.

As I got up to leave, I turned to look back, as if it pained me to leave the little brat.

"Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Prior."

Well? How was it? AND TODAY IS MY BIRTHDAY! NOW I'M SIXTEEN AND I GOT MY LICENSE! WOOHOO. I LOVE YOU GUYS!
