I'm proud of myself guys. I updated both of my stories in one day.
Chapter 57
"I'm going to take Carter to the apartment." I told Tobias. "You go and tell the initiates that they have the day off and then meet us back there."
Tobias smiled at me then kissed me on the lips. He also planted his lips on the top of Carter's head. "I'll see you at home."
I laughed at how happy he was. I understood, for I felt the same way. Due to the drastic change in his mood, the initiates will probably think that the world is ending. I like it when he's like this; though after a while it gets quite annoying.
Instead of going immediately to my apartment I made a quick stop at Christina's. She was a great friend during the whole time that Carter was missing. She'd kill me if I didn't tell her Carter was back right away.
Carter was awake and looked a little confused. Understandable, considering that she hasn't seen me in four months. My parents were the only adults that she was around. It would probably take a few days for her to be comfortable around Tobias and me.
I knocked on Christina's door. It opened almost instantaneously.
"Hey Tris." Will greeted. "Are you loo- is that Carter?!"
I was about to respond when Christina's voice sounded from inside. "Carter?" She suddenly appeared next to Will. "Oh my God! It is Carter!" Christina took Carter from my arms and began to gush over her. She was probably almost as relieved as I was. It took a while to convince Christina that Carter's disappearance wasn't her fault. "Where was she?"
"It seems that Bella forgot about visiting day. She brought Carter to my parents. It's likely that she assumed that my parents cut ties with me since I was a transfer. Bella didn't think that I'd ever see my parents again." I explained. I didn't know this for sure, but I'd say that it was a pretty safe bet.
"That's actually pretty logical if you think about it." Will said, nodding slightly. Christina and I just stared at him. Well, I stared and Christina whacked him on the back of the head.
"Don't give Bella any credit you idiot!" She said angrily.
"Ok jeez! Sorry!" Will said, putting his hands up innocently.
"It's alright Will," I chuckled. "Can I have my daughter back? I need to meet Four at home." I asked while stretching out my arms.
Once I had her, I said goodbye to my friends and headed home. I hoped that Tobias hadn't beaten me there because if he had, there was no doubt in my mind that he was freaking out.
We met up at the same time. I was just reaching for my key when I looked up and saw him walking towards me. A smile was plastered on his face. Something I have seen in a long time.
"I need to hold my daughter." He stated happily. "I've been withdrawn from her for too long." I chuckled and handed her over. After unlocking the door and stepping inside, I heard Tobias' distressed groan.
"Of course!" he exclaims in a whisper. "Once I start to hold her, she goes and falls asleep!"
"Well put her to bed before she wakes up and starts crying." I told him. He looked at me with longing. He did not want to put her to bed. It was the first time he has held her since we got her back. Reluctantly, he brought her into the nursery.
As soon as he came out, his lips were on mine. The kiss was passionate and fast and amazing. It had been so long since we've been together like this. So long since we have been this electric. Tobias scooped me up and carried me into the bedroom, our lips only separating so that I could take off his shirt. His hands ran up and down my body and my fingers skimmed his well-built chest. His lips moved to my neck.
"Let's have another," he whispered, so quiet I could barely hear him.
But I did hear him. I put my hand on his chest so that his lips wouldn't be able to distract me.
"What?" I asked in disbelief.
He stared at me, looking shocked that I had stopped him.
"I said that we should have another."
"Now?" I exclaimed.
"Yes!" he said. "You said that we could have another baby!"
I held his gaze for a while before responding. "I know that I said that, but we just had a baby a few months ago! Can we adjust to being parents of one before we jump right into two?"
"We'll wait until she's one. Then we're having another baby." He stated.
"Is that so?" I asked with a large amount of sass. "So this time it's going to be your body that is infiltrated by a growing fetus that needs to feed off of you for 36-40 weeks? I didn't realize it worked that way with the second child."
Tobias' eyes softened and he lowered himself onto the bed next to me. "Please Tris. I really love you and all I want to do is make more beautiful children with you. I never thought that I could love anything like I love you and Carter. I want to love more people like that."
I sighed heavily. "We'll see Tobias. The pregnancy with Carter was really tough on me. I went through a lot of stress. I thought that I lost Carter too many times. You should understand why I'm so hesitant to go through that again."
Tobias kissed my temple. "I understand. Maybe we can wait a little longer than a year." He said with a smirk.
"Oh can we? Thank you so much!" I said sarcastically. I rolled on top of him. "Now let's finish what we started."
Page Break
I woke up to Carter's cries. "Will you go get that?" I muttered to Tobias. Yes, I could have gotten up but I really didn't want to.
I heard a muffled response and the bed shifted, signaling that Tobias was getting up. It was about ten minutes before Tobias came back in, our wailing baby in his arms.
"I think that she wants you." He said. We transferred her over to me and I began to softly rock her. Almost immediately her cries ceased and there was only a soft whimpering.
"That's right," I cooed. "You just wanted your mom, right sweet girl?"
"Sometimes I hate you. A lot." Tobias said.
I laughed quietly so that I wouldn't disturb my now peaceful daughter. "Sometimes a child just wants their mother. Don't feel bad. She's still a daddy's girl."
After he had lain back down he said, "Not at night she isn't." After a pause he added, "I'm insinuating that you should be the one to get her when she cries during the night."
I stood up, still rocking. "Yeah, not a chance Tobias. She's yours too."
Carter was still awake, though her eyes were half-closed and a bit disoriented. "Your dad is so funny isn't he?" I asked, even though I knew that I wouldn't get a response. "Now, go back to sleep and be nice to your father. He can be a little awkward at times so you have to give him a break."
"I can hear you! You know that right?" Tobias called.
I smiled. "Exactly my point. Now, when are you going to start talking back? I feel a little weird talking to you because you can't keep up a conversation."
Carter was now asleep. That was the trick with her. Talking calmed her down. Obviously I was the only one who had figured that out since Tobias can never get her to go back to sleep.
"I'll see you in the morning Carter. You haven't played with Grayson in a long time. I'm sure that he missed you."
"Today," Tobias barked at the initiates. "You will be facing some of your worst fears. This is the mental part of initiation and the part that sets the transfers even with the Dauntlessborn. This part can make you or break you. Nothing can prepare you for it. You just need to find your way out. No one can help you."
There were a few nervous murmurs among the initiates. They were cut off by a knock and then the door opening.
"Hey Six?" Christina poked her head in the room. "Carter is being pretty fussy."
Tobias nodded as if to say I got this. As I walked towards Christina, I heard whispers. All of them asking who Carter was.
I took my red-faced daughter and reentered the room.
"This is Carter!" I announced. "She is my daughter. Yes, I have a daughter. Any questions?"
"Who's the father?" someone called out.
"I wasn't being serious when I asked if there was any questions." I told them. Tobias and I still didn't want them knowing that we were together.
"She probably doesn't even know." A boy snickered.
"Probably. What a slut!"
"Whore."
"Who'd want to sleep with her?"
"Shut up, all of you!" I was surprised to find that it was Serena, one of the Amity transfers, who was now speaking. "It's none of our business. We don't need to know who Carter's father is. Just get off of Six's back."
I nodded in thanks.
During that whole mess, Carter had managed to calm down.
Like I said, she loves it when people are talking.
How was it? Love you guys!
