It's been an incredible journey.

I'm not exactly sure yet, but the sequel will probably be called Amnesia.

You guys are really going to hate me after this. And that's ok with me. I love you guys.

Chapter 66

*9 Years Later*

The two lay side by side, watching the trains roll by. Their two children were off causing trouble with the other children of Dauntless and they had nothing to do for the rest of the day. Well, they could've thought of a lot of things to do, but they just wanted to spend some peaceful time together.

"Can you believe it?" The woman began. "Fourteen years ago I went from pathetic initiate to Dauntless prodigy. No one could believe that I managed to snare the legendary Four; the mysterious Dauntless trainer that was ranked first in his initiate class and never showed any interest in, although asked several times, being a leader, and also turned down every girl that ever came his way. Everyone wondered how I, the short, unattractive Stiff, managed to capture his undivided attention."

"Snare? Capture?" The man supposedly named after a number chuckled. "Perhaps it's the other way around Tris."

"I don't think so Tobias." Tris said laughing.

"You're probably right Tris." Tobias replied with a laugh of his own.

"I'm always right." His wife said playfully. "Ok, maybe not always, but most of the time."

Tobias smiled and laced his fingers through hers. "All of the things we went through are unbelievable; don't you agree? It's amazing we managed to survive all of it."

"And the outcome of all of it was two beautiful and amazing children. How could we manage to end up so lucky?"

"Let's see: several jealous initiates, Lauren, Tesa and Eric kidnapping us and nearly killing you, the scare at the initiation finale, the bomb, Bella, Bella again, Xander." Tobias paused for a moment. "The worst part is that I'm probably forgetting things since there are so many. It's bad that we've been through so many things that usually only appear in peoples nightmares. And we survived it. We're so lucky I'm pretty sure we're immortal."

"I wouldn't be too sure about that." A low gruff voice suggested.

The couple looked up in shock. Before they had a chance to reply, multiple masked figures seized them. Three of them grabbed Tris and hauled her away from her husband. She kicked and thrashed but she couldn't break herself free. The people holding her were too strong.

Meanwhile, Tobias was facing struggles of his own. He was being held by two of the masked people. Tobias probably would have been able to overpower them easily, if it weren't for the gun that was currently being pointed at his wife.

"Come with us now, willingly." The man, presumably the leader, demanded. "If you don't, I'll shoot her."

This was Tobias' dilemma. He didn't want to leave his wife. He didn't want her to have to take care of their children by herself. Who knew if he would ever comeback?

But if he didn't go with the attackers, Tris would die, and their children would be orphans. He couldn't-wouldn't-let that happen. Tris meant too much to him and their children. Tobias wouldn't be able to bear it if he knew his wife was dead because of him. If he ever did come back, how would he be able to explain that to his children?

His choice was simple. He would go with them and leave his family behind. The hardest thing he ever had to do was this. Yet, it was also the easiest.

"I'll go with you." Tobias announced, surrendering after a long minute of silence.

"Tobias, no!" Tris screamed. "Don't go with them!"

How could he not go with them? That is what he wanted to ask his wife. Her life was on the line and she was telling him to try and fight. He was about to voice his thoughts aloud, but the leader beat him to it.

"Shut up bitch!" He barked. Quick as lightning, his gun-occupied hand whipped out and connected with the side of Tris' head. She crumpled to the ground, her captors not prepared for the sudden deadweight.

"You bastard!" Tobias screeched. "I said that I'd go with you!"

"I didn't kill her." The man said casually. "I was going to have to do that anyways. We can't have her trying to come after us now can we?" He took his original place stationed in front of Tobias. The gun was now tucked into the waistband of his jeans. "Don't worry. You'll see her again. Some day."

"Then why are you taking me?" Tobias demanded. "What's the point if you're just going to send me back here?"

"There is a plan Tobias Eaton. Oh yes, I know exactly who you are. I've done a fair amount of research on you and your family the last few years." This statement both startled and frightened Tobias. His family was being watched, and he never had a clue. "You are a vital part of that plan Tobias. Soon you will understand what we're doing. This could change everything."

"At least let me leave a note. I can hide it somewhere no one else will find." Tobias pleaded. "I just don't want them to think that I'm dead."

The man looked to his followers. Most of them gave a hesitant nod. The leader was then handed a notebook. It's a pretty random object to have on you, but they needed to write their down information somewhere. All of them had taken to carrying a pen and paper at all times. It has proven very useful more than once.

The strangers circled Tobias and then released him. The leader threw him a page torn from the notebook and a writing utensil. Tobias eyed them uneasily, unsure of what they were up to. Very rarely has this Dauntless prodigy ever felt so trapped. His fear of tight spaces was starting to creep into his mind. It seemed like these people were starting to close in on him.

Silently, Tobias scribbled down a few words on the piece of paper. It was a short message, but he knew that the person who found it would know it was him. That's all that mattered.

"Where do you intend on putting that?" He was asked.

Still surrounded, Tobias led them to a lone tree near the train tracks. There was a hole in it. His daughter, who almost always looked in it in hope of seeing a birds nest, would find it. Hopefully she was alone when she did. He knew that Carter would be reluctant to show anyone the last known piece of her father. The bond between the two was strong, and she wouldn't want anyone sharing that bond.

"Who is going to be smart enough to look in there?"

"My daughter." Tobias told them. "This is our special place. I can guarantee you that she will find it, even if it's by accident."

The leader seemed to stand a little bit taller at the mention of Tobias' daughter, which was kind of frightening to the father of the ten-year-old.

When they finally got onto a train and set off towards their destination, Tobias leaned his head back. He allowed himself one last look at the Dauntless compound; one last look at his home. Tobias shut his eyes and silently scolded himself for leaving his family.

-Page Break-

The hardest part of this whole ordeal was explaining what had happened. Tris herself knew very little, for she was unconscious most of the time. It was especially hard to tell the kids. Their father hadn't been distant, like quite a few of the parents in Dauntless. He had been with them for everything. Scrapped knees, bad dreams and all. It took a long time for them to finally come to terms with the hole he had left behind.

Carter did end up finding the note. It gave her comfort that her father would trust her with this information. No one, not even her brother, with whom she was very close, knew about the note. It was hard for her to keep this a secret. Part of her wanted to scream out that Tobias would be coming back to them. She couldn't though. Every day, when he didn't come home, would just turn into a disappointment for more than just her.

Tobias didn't know that he actually did not leave his family behind completely. A few weeks after Tris woke up next to the train tracks by herself with a large bump on her head, she started to feel sick. Once she completely registered the symptoms, she knew exactly what it meant. The only person she told was her best friend.

It was hard at first for Tris. She had to raise two kids on her own already. Even though she had the full support of her friends, three kids was going to be impossible.

It all changed when he was born. The child was a carbon copy of the father that he would never know. There was no mistaking who fathered this boy. Tobias James Eaton is an odd name for a child of Dauntless; but his mother got the pleasure of knowing the secret behind it. She figured that her friends would soon put the pieces together.

You'd think that it would that it would bring nothing but pain for a mother to look into her baby's eyes and see his missing, possibly dead father. It was bittersweet for Tris though. She felt a small ache when she looked at Tobias, TJ for short, but it was a good ache. An ache that reminded Tris of all the good memories she had with her husband.

There were two things that kept Tris going.

The first, of course, was her kids.

The second was the fact that she knew that she'd see Tobias again. If not in life, than in death.

And that was ok with her.
