He looks like Emmett Carver from Gracepoint, yet sounds like Alec Hardy from Broadchurch.
Ever since ending up in this universe Jaime continued to wonder if there was a version of David Tennant here. And to her surprise there was. Unfortunately he wasn't an actor and nor did he go by the name 'Tennant'. She found him completely by accident after opening a Fire Portal. The other end led her to Dundee, Scotland in the year 2016 of the 21st Century. More precisely, Dundee University. He was a Professor there. Professor David McDonald MBE and he was a lecturer.
So staying as hidden as possible Jaime snuck into the lecture hall, staying at the back. From what she could tell from where she stood Professor McDonald had a stubbly looking beard with flat looking ginger-brown hair. His accent was considerably more Scottish than David Tennant. Perhaps this version of David came from Glasgow instead of... Oh! And when Professor McDonald began his lecture Jaime couldn't believe what she was actually hearing. Not only did he lecture on Quantum Physics/Mechanics, but he also lectured on Temporal Physics. And that was Time Travel. TIME TRAVEL! Bloody Time Travel! Surely this couldn't be a coincidence. A man that looks like the Doctor lecturing on Time Travel. And when she looked around the lecture hall she noticed it was jam packed. Clearly he was the most popular lecturer in Dundee University. Every student was hanging onto his words, obviously enthralled by the idea of Time Travel.
Jaime really needed to know more to understand what was going on. So she stayed. Stayed for three whole hours, getting bored or just getting distracted by everyone's emotions and feelings. There were two students in front of her who decided to play tonsil hockey and she could feel their emotions change as they continued. And she found it very annoying, not to mention distracting, so she Telekinetically slapped them apart and they yelped, looking around with wide eyes. Professor McDonald halted for a moment, looking up at the people who had disturbed him, before continuing with his lecture. The two students she'd stopped from kissing were now quietly talking to each other until they decided to just listen to their lecturer.
Once the whole of the lecture ended the students left the hall. Making sure that no student was dawdling Jaime silently walked down the steps towards the Professor. He was busy sorting his work out and he didn't see her, mainly because she was hiding behind her Perception filter. From up close he even had the same brown eyes, same nose, same ears. He was definitely this universe's David Tennant. But when Jaime moved even closer to him he suddenly looked up with wide eyes. "Who's there?" He asked, shouting. She quickly put her hands over her mouth. Perhaps that hadn't been the best idea. Looking suspiciously at the seats and the entrance the Professor returned to his work, sorting out his notes.
The teenager wondered briefly if he had an office. Didn't most lecturers have an office? If he had an office and he went there, then maybe she could figure him out even more. The wait felt like forever but the Professor picked up his work and began to leave the lecture hall. Jaime hovered behind him, following like a creepy ghost. But an idea soon came to mind and she waited until he exited the hall before fully revealing herself. The chameleon clothes adjusted to their surroundings, turning into what a 21st Century student would wear. "Well that's handy!" She said, looking down at the jeans, smart looking jacket and t-shirt.
Jaime now ran out of the hall and followed the Professor down the corridor. The College day was still in full swing and the students were either stood in the corridor chatting or rushing to the next lesson. She took a deep breath and discreetly swiped her hand. This caused Professor McDonald to trip up and up and spill his stuff on the floor. "Oh my god!" Jaime rushed to him. "Are you okay Sir? Let me help you!" "No, no. It's okay." He replied gruffly, picking up his books. "No, really. I'd like to help." Jaime pushed, voice echoing. The Professor blinked and grunted. "Fine."
They both gathered up books, notes and student work and then they continued up the corridor. "I haven't seen you around here before! Are you new?" He asked. Jaime grimaced at the question. She had no idea how the College system worked. "Uhh, yeah. Late starter but I'm trying to catch up. "University of York?" He suddenly enquired. "Swansea University? University of Sunderland?" He was asking what University she went to previously but why was it different cities? "Uhh...it's the one in Sunderland. Why do you ask?" He raised a brow, looking at her. "It's your accent. It alternates from North-East to Yorkshire to Welsh." Really? She hadn't even noticed that. In fact how was that even possible? "I moved around a lot." So very true. "What's your name?" He asked next. Oh no! What was she going to tell him? "Katie." She replied. "Katie Smith." Smith? Where did that come from? "Well, Katie Smith. Welcome to Dundee University." He said to her in a strong Scottish brogue and she grinned. He even spoke like David Tennant. What was she thinking! He WAS David Tennant.
They reached his office which had his name on the door: Professor David McDonald MBE. Entering it his office looked like any other office a lecturer would have. Placing the books and the work on the desk Jaime looked around, eyes wandering over everything. "I heard that you lecture on Temporal Physics. Isn't that the idea of Time Travel?" The Professor grinned at her. "Aye, indeed it is," he said. "Ever since I was a wee nipper. I've always been fascinated by the idea of Time Travel. Some people may see it as fantasy or something that happens in the movies. But it exists."
Her eyes fell on a photo hanging on the wall and she gasped in surprise. Professor McDonald heard her and followed her gaze, and smiled. She couldn't believe it. In the photo was the Third Doctor stood beside David with grins on their faces. The professor walked over to it. "Ah, the amazing Doctor Smith. When we met he said I reminded him of someone. He saved my life from the Ghosts that turned out to be metal men, then we talked and then he proceeded to show me his travel machine. A Time And Relative Dimension In Space he called it. Smaller on the outside yet transdimensional on the inside." He wasn't quite sure why he was telling this young student about his friend's time travel machine, though it seemed the right thing. "He took me to the future as well as the past and made me promise not to tell anyone what I saw." He smiled. "Makes me wonder what he's up to these days. And judging by the way you gasped I take it you too have seen him before..."
There was a cold breeze in the office. "Did I leave that door open again?" He turned to the girl but she had disappeared and the door was closed. Okay...he found that very odd...or perhaps she was just light on her feet.
