Have you ever had a moment in your life where you know you shouldn't be doing something, but you go ahead and do it anyway? You do it because it's dangerous, edgy, it pumps adrenaline through your veins like a drug, and it's just so damn intoxicating that you can't get enough of it? That's what it felt like to be with Paul. Even with the possibility of our relationship ending badly, I couldn't stay away from him. He made me feel so alive! He just...he just made me feel very happy.
But being with Paul is one of the riskiest things I've ever done. If the pack finds out, who knows what could happen. It's an even bigger deal now that I know he imprinted on someone. I know I should be happy that the imprint bond was on a friend level, and I knew that if I over think this, I will become insecure. What if Rachel wakes up one day and realizes she's meant to be with Paul? What would happen then?
Paul said that there was no chance that she would ever leave her family for someone who couldn't leave the reservation, but then again with everything that's happened, it's not impossible.
Without warning, a pillow smacked me across the face.
"What the hell, Leah!" I shrieked, pushing my hair away from my face.
"Oh, I'm sorry, Swan," Leah apologizes sarcastically. "I was only trying to get your attention for the past ten minutes!"
I smiled at her and sighed. "Sorry, my mind's just scattered."
Leah swung the pillow across my face again. "Oh I know what's on your mind, Swan." She smirked at me.
Another good thing that came out of this was Leah. She and I are becoming good friends. We're basically like sisters now. She's been putting her ass on the line just to help me out.
"Hey, I can't he-" Another pillow smacked my face. "honestly, Leah! Fuck off!"
Leah held up her phone to my face. In her Notes App, it read:
Shut up, dumbass! Seth's home and he can hear you.
I stared up at her with wide eyes. God, I forgot about Seth. If he thinks something's up, he'll no doubt snoop around and then tattle-tale on us. That would be the end of Paul and I.
I took out my cell phone and went to the Notes App. I types out a message and held it up:
Damn you werewolves and your hearing!
Leah laughed.
It's a gift and a curse.
I grinned at her, typing on my phone again. It was then when the door opened and we saw Seth's face appear. He looked at us for a second before letting himself inside. Seth's the cutest little kid in the pack. He looks like he's fourteen, but in reality he's in his late teens.
"What do you want, Seth?" Leah asked.
"It got really quiet in here, and I was hoping you didn't kill Bella." He joked.
"Nah, I'm too lazy to clean up that mess and hide her body."
I shot her a dirty stare, and she smiled.
Seth took a seat on Leah's bed, giving no sign of departing. "So what are you guys talking about?"
Oh. So Seth came up to spy.
"Just talking about girl stuff." I said.
Seth snorted. "Leah talking about girl stuff? Hah."
Leah slapped his arm. "You fucker, I can be girly whenever I want to!"
"Leah, when's the last time you put on a dress, heels, or even wore makeup?" Seth challenged.
"Hey, you don't need all that stuff to be girly." I interjected.
"Oh yeah, Seth," Leah chortled. "let me just put on mascara and my highest high heels then turn into a big wolf!"
I sat back, suppressing my laughter. "She has a point. Hell, I even hate putting all that fucking shit on and I don't even turn into a wolf."
Seth stared at me, bug-eyed and surprised. "Did you just cuss?"
Leah beamed with pride. "Hell yeah you did, little brother. Out baby Bella's all grown up." Leah teased, wiping away a fake tear.
"I can swear whenever the fuck I want to." I provided.
Seth stayed quiet for a moment, his eyes wandering from me to Leah. "Well," He finally said. "I also came up here to tell you that Ma and Charlie said dinner's ready."
Seth stared at us suspiciously before walking out. Leah typed on her phone.
That was too close.
I nodded, heaving as sigh of relief. Leah and I stood up, walking downstairs and into the dining room.
Sue wanted us to eat dinner together, as a family. Sometime next year, they're going to get married. To be honest, I'm actually looking forward to it. I've always wanted a family. Since Leah and I started getting along, it made me even more excited.
Not only will Charlie be happy, but I feel like I will be too. She's a great mother figure. She's always had that motherly side that my mom's never had. I do love my mom, don't get me wrong, but she acted more like a friend rather than a mother.
I took a seat next to Leah, Seth was sitting across from us, Sue and Charlie sat on either ends of the table. The dinner was nice, the food was great like always.
"So Bella, how's school going?" Sue asked.
"It's going good. I have another year left then I'm done." I explained, eating another spoonful of rice.
"Are you still thinking of moving away once you're done?" She queried.
I looked at Leah and Charlie, the only two people who knew about Paul. They stared back at me expectingly, but what could I say?
"Um, yeah," I lied. "that's the plan. But I was also thinking of sticking around."
Her face broke out into a huge smile. "That would be nice! I know everyone would miss you, dear."
"Some more than others." Charlie mumbled, stuffing green beans into his mouth. Leah and I glared at him.
Sue cocked her head. "Why do you say that?"
Charlie smirked. He's loving this more than Leah is! I think this is the first thing he's had on me in years. This ole fool will play with this little secret as long as possible. I'll get him for this.
"Oh nothing, sweetie." He continued to smile smugly down at his half-empty plate of food.
"So what ever happened to that Joe guy you were talking to at school?" Seth inquired, proceeding to drink water.
Wow, what is this, 20 questions? Everyone's on to me.
"I don't talk to him much anymore." I shrugged. Can these people please shut up now? Charlie snorted. I fought the urge to throw my fork at him.
"Oh, why?" Jesus, Seth, shut up!
At this point, all eyes were on me. Leah looked confused, Charlie still had that smug smile on, and Sue was just trying to follow along.
"We're better off as friends." I murmured.
"That's a real shame, Bella." Seth said, but there was something in his tone that made me suspect him of something, although I don't know what.
"You'll find someone, dear." Sue smiled reassuringly. "After all that's happened, I think a boy would be good for you."
I could feel my cheek going red. I was both nervous and anxious about this conversation.
"Hey, did you guys tell her that you have a date for the wedding?" Leah stepped in, and I mentally praised her.
If Sue could smile even more than she was now, she'd break.
For the rest of the evening, that's all we talked about; the wedding. Charlie and Sue planned to get married during the summer. The beach was their preferred location, a few meters away from the water so the waves don't come crashing on them. Charlie was probably more excited than Sue about the wedding.
I hope one day, someone would be able to look at me like I'm the biggest diamond they've ever seen. A part of me wishes that it would be Paul, after seeing his sensitive side. I'm falling for him, that much was clear.
Leah and I excused ourselves from the dinner table and retreated to her bedroom. I let my body collapse down onto her bed, screaming into the pillow.
"Well that was fun." Leah commented. "Why didn't you tell me there was another guy? If I knew about this, I would have said that you went out with him rather than Paul."
I widened my eyes - she mentioned his name!
"Oh calm your rolls, Seth went to patrol and I made sure there were no other wolves around."
I breathed out deeply. "There is no other guy. I made him up because Jake and Seth saw a text message from Paul one night, so I panicked."
"Well now we know why Seth's poking around." She muttered, sitting on her chair.
"Makes sense." I agreed.
"Maybe you should cool it down with Paul for a week or so." She suggested.
I contemplated that idea. It would be a good way to get everyone off my back. "Yeah, that would be a good id-"
My cell phone went off, notifying me of a text message. It was from Paul. It said:
Meet me at my place in ten.
Leah must have saw, because she squealed. "Dear me, Bella!"
I looked at her helplessly. "D'you think you can-"
"You don't even have to say it." She grinned, jumping up from her seat and walking over to her dresser. "Get naked." She ordered, throwing me a shirt and a skirt. "Now put them on. It will hide your smell so no one will be able to track you. They will think you're me."
I threw the clothes on and hugged her. "Thank you."
"What are sisters for?" She stated.
"You know," I said. "you really should let people see this side of you."
After I get dress in her stuff. I hug her. "Thank you so much" I smile at her after I pull always. "You know you really should let people see this side of you."
She rolled her eyes. "Nah, then people will actually like me."
We both giggled at that, but I sympathized her.
I walked out the back door of my house and made my way to Paul's. Once I was there, I stood idly in his backyard. His kitchen light was on, and I could see him drinking something. He then moved out of sight, only to open his door.
"Are you going to stalk me or are you gonna come in?" He called out to me.
I walked into his house and jumped in his arms. There was no way I could bear being away from him for a week. Being in his arms made me realize something; yes, I was falling for him. But I fell a long time ago. Now I've crashed, I've burned, I'm in his arms and he's holding me.
I'm in love with him. And it scared the shit out of me.
