The Doctor watched helplessly as Jaime, inside the booth, stopped moving. "Rose!" The blonde stared in horror at what she just saw the teen do. "Rose!" The Doctor snapped and she looked at him, obviously upset. "I need my Sonic, it's over there." He pointed across the room.
Rose nodded and went to fetch it. As soon as the Doctor was given it he began to melt the ice. John was doing the same thing with his own Sonic. "Doctor, it's gone off!" Wilf said, sounding emotional. He looked up to see that the Nuclear Bolt had turned off, making the whole thing safe.
John was the first one out of the ice and he ran to the booth, opening the door. "Oh, now it opens!" John scoffed and went to pull the teen out of the booth. "Don't touch her," the Doctor warned. "She's an Omni-Psychic with the ability to regenerate Telekinetically. But she's also human. She'll be full of radiation." From what he could see she had several patches of radiation sores.
The Time Lord was finally able to kick away the ice and hurried to the teenager. "I don't think she's breathing." Wilf stated as the Doctor pulled her out of the booth, her pale face mixed with blood and sores. "Thank you for your opinion, now kindly shut up!" John snapped at the old man. "John!" The Doctor warned. "It's okay. He reminds me of Donna and my own Daughter." Wilf replied. John smiled happily at this despite the situation.
The Doctor turned his attention back to Jaime. She was completely still and it really didn't look like she was breathing. But he had to check. The first thing he did was pull a tissue from his pocket using it to wipe the partially dried blood from her face and around her nose. The radiation had stopped the bleeding. Secondly, he put his ear to her nose, only there was nothing to hear, or feel. Thirdly, he pulled out a stethoscope from his jacket pocket, put the ends in his ears and put the listening piece to her chest. He frowned and John noticed it. "Well?" He worried, making the Doctor look at him. He couldn't hear a heartbeat so he shook his head.
John wiped his eyes and Rose gathered him in a hug. They were both upset but the Doctor was even more upset. He didn't want to believe his foster-daughter was dead. The last thing he did was scan her with the Sonic and then exclaimed happily when he got a signal. "What?" John asked. "She's still got life signs," the Doctor answered and Rose cheered. "They're very faint though."
The Time Lord gathered the teenager up in his arms. "We need to get her back to the TARDIS, quick." He said and began to make his way out of the gate room. Rose followed behind, unsure about the whole radiation thing. "Lets go, Wilf." John put his arm around Wilf's shoulders but he noticed the old man was looking at something. "What's that?" He asked and when he followed Wilf's gaze the Half-Time Lord scowled.
Standing on the other side of the room was Ood Sigma. "We will sing to her," Sigma spoke up. "The Universe will sing the Omni to her sleep. This story is ending, but the story never ends." "Eh? What does it mean, John? Where's that singing come from?" "Story never ends?" John muttered until his eyes widened. "Oh! Of course! Come on, Wilf."
He pulled along the very confused man who felt like family. "But I don't understand," Wilf puffed along. "What was that thing? And what did it mean?" "That was an Ood," John replied, following Rose and the Doctor. "That's an Ood?" Wilf said. "The Doctor mentioned them earlier." "Yes. He and Donna rescued them from a life of slavery." "That's my Donna!" He whooped. John smiled. "And if we're lucky there may be a chance she'll regenerate." "Who?" "Jaime of course!" Wilf frowned. "But she's human isn't she?" "Yes. It's complicated."
Once they were in the TARDIS the Doctor gently laid Jaime down on the grating and passed the Sonic to Rose. "Keep scanning her and check for life signs," he told the blonde. "I'm going to get Wilf back home." He rushed to the console and pulled the lever, taking the TARDIS into the Vortex. J.D crouched opposite Rose and sighed sadly. "Do you think there's a chance she'll regenerate?" He asked.
Rose and the Doctor looked at each other, then at Wilf who was looking and probably feeling guilty over what happened. "It's okay. We saw an Ood in that room we were in." He said. "What?" Rose exclaimed while the Doctor shook his head. "I don't know. There's a very slim chance, especially now. And even if she could it might still go wrong." Once again J.D sighed.
Once the TARDIS landed, Wilf and the Doctor exited the ship to find Sylvia standing on the Noble house doorstep with a smile on her face. "Oh, she's smiling," the Doctor grimaced. "As if today wasn't bad enough. Anyway, we'll let you know how we'll get on. With the way things are going it might be bad news." Wilf was still confused. "What do you mean? How can she regenerate? I thought she was human?" "It's very complicated." The Doctor replied. "It all goes back to when she was three in another universe. But she can also regenerate Telekinetically." Sylvia was giving him the shivers. "Right, we'll be off then." The Doctor said, going back to the TARDIS. "Bye, Doctor." Wilf said, saluting the Time Lord.
Back in the TARDIS the Doctor took them back into the Vortex. "Doctor!" Rose's voice was panicked and he looked up from the console. "I'm not getting a signal anymore." The blonde said. "She's dead."
It was dark. Everything was dark. Everywhere was dark. Was this really what death was like? Just the darkness? Not even any variety! She really didn't expect it to be like this, the feeling of being disembodied in darkness felt really weird, like she was floating or perhaps swimming. Maybe it was dark matter? Hold on! What was dark matter? Did somebody discover it in the future? Never mind, she thought as she shook her non-existent head. How odd! What happened to the whole pearly gates thing? All clouds and a fella...whatshisname...waiting? Or was that just in the movies and cartoons? On the plus side she wasn't in pain anymore. Hurray! On the downside she was dead and she really hadn't meant to upset everyone.
*Omni!* A voice suddenly called. *Omni!* The voice gave off feelings of dread and fear and she knew who it was. Far in the distance she could see a golden light. Bad Wolf. *Omni!* The voice...it...called again. *Oh, what do you want?* Jaime groaned in annoyance. *Can't you leave me to be dead in peace?* *You're not dead, Omni.* Came the reply from Bad Wolf and Jaime snorted sarcastically. *Clearly I am!* Came the reply. *Why do you think it's so dark here? This is death and I am dead.* *No, you're really not.* Bad Wolf contradicted. *You're just in a transition between life and death.* *What? What do you mean?* She asked, confused. On, why did it have to be so cryptic all the time! *Just listen!* Bad Wolf told her and she did.
"She's not dead," she heard John shout. "I can still feel her, in here!" "She is," Rose argued back. "I'm not getting a signal." "Then you must be doing it wrong." John growled in reply. There was a buzzing sound that could only come from the Sonic Screwdriver. "I'm sorry," she then heard the Doctor speak. "She is." There was a shout of annoyance and she felt sorry for him. "Then why can I still feel her?" John demanded. Silence, then: "That's odd," the Doctor said. "Hold on." The Screwdriver buzzed again. "What are you doing buzzing me for?" John exclaimed.
She sighed. *Told you. I'm dead.* She said and felt annoyance and frustration from Bad Wolf. *Weren't you even listening? You are connected to The Other. And he can still feel you.* She was still confused so Bad Wolf explained further. *If you were dead then that connection should have broken. He can still feel you so you must be still alive.* She frowned...or she thought she did. It was hard to tell in all this darkness.
*But I don't understand. Either I am, or I'm not. I know the radiation killed me. I felt it do so.* The feeling of dread and fear greatly intensified but she stood steady despite wanting to run away. *Even after what I told you, you still insist you're dead.* Suddenly Bad Wolf embraced her, the golden light bright and warm. *You will live, Omni!* She grunted. *What are you doing? Why are you doing this?* *We All-Powerful have got to look out for each other, right?* Bad Wolf replied and it felt like it was grinning. She suddenly felt a painful jolt where her chest should be. *Owww!* she cried. *You still have a lot to do, Omni.* Bad Wolf told her. *Live!* Everything brightened and the darkness dissipated.
John pushed the Doctor's hand away, annoyed. "Stop buzzing me!" He said but the Time Lord's brows were furrowed. "This is impossible!" He said. "Your connection with her should have broken." "Well that's what I've been telling you. She's still alive." "But she isn't," the Doctor contradicted. "There's no pulse, no heartbeat, no signs of life. She's dead."
They heard a faint groan and they all looked down at Jaime who appeared to have a slight frowny-grimace on her face. "What?" The Doctor exclaimed. "But she was..." The teen groaned again, this time a little louder. Rose gasped. "Doctor, look!" She pointed. The radiation sores were all disappearing very quickly. "Blimey!" John breathed. "Oh, Rassilon! Rapid regeneration healing. It's started!" The Doctor said and pulled Rose and John away from the girl.
As she came back from the dark, Jaime could hear the chatter from the Doctors and Rose, felt an enquiring from the TARDIS and pain. A lot of pain. She groaned because her body ached a lot and she thought she was free from it. Then she realised she should be dead because that amount of radiation should have killed her, being human and all...
When she shifted, white hot pain shot through her stomach and she whimpered, hazel eyes flashing open. She wanted to remain lying on the floor of the TARDIS but something was forcing her to get up, so she did. Slowly and painfully, enough to make her groan. And if that wasn't enough the pins and needles had returned. Only they were everywhere and it was a thousand times worse...and it HURT! "Oww, oww, owww!" Jaime croaked, jumping from foot to foot and shaking her hands to ease the irritation.
Only then did she notice an orangey-gold glow and she stopped with a shocked gasp, heart skipping a beat as she stared at her left hand with wide eyes. It was glowing with that orangey-gold regeneration energy that was supposed to come from Time Lords. "Huh?" She sounded so confused. When she looked at her right hand she saw the same thing. Just what was going on?
"Jaime." She heard someone call her name. "Jaime!" She looked at John, her face pale and eyes wide. "What's happening?" She croaked and J.D smiled grimly. He was going to have to tell her. "You're regenerating," John explained. "It's not Telekinetic regeneration either, it's a Time Lord regeneration." He sensed her confusion. "But I'm not a Time Lord." Jaime croaked. "Yes, I know that, you're human. Completely human. But...you're going to regenerate and...you might change." Jaime gasped. "You might not, we don't know because this is a first...a complete first. There's never been a regenerating human before and it has every possibility of going wrong."
White hot pain shot through her stomach again and she cried out of pain, doubling over. John looked at the Doctor, feeling helpless. "Can I touch her?" He asked. The Doctor nodded. "She'll have absorbed all the radiation at this point."
Turning back to Jaime, the Half-Time Lord helped her back to her full height and put his hands on the sides of her face. She was crying, the tears streaming down her cheeks and he smiled sadly. She was hurting and he knew what that was like when it came to regenerating. "You're going to have to be brave now, darling." He told the teen, wiping the tears off her cheeks and getting a little emotional himself. "My brilliant, brave and amazing Jaime MacInarah. I love you!" And then he ducked down and kissed her, sensing surprise from her.
The regeneration energy had reached her neck. "John!" The Time Lord warned and he quickly stepped back before the Doctor could pull him back. Jaime grimaced painfully and looked at the other three. "But...I...don't want...to go!" She sobbed and then she was totally engulfed by orangey-gold regeneration energy and it was so bright they had to look away.
Jaime felt her arms spread out as the explosive regeneration began, causing fires and knocking down a coral column or two. It felt hot and prickly and very discomforting, not to mention it felt like her body was melting, along with her insides. It felt really weird and scary and she screamed until all that weirdness passed. The orangey-gold energy dissipated and Jaime stumbled back with a gasp, looking around in confusion.
"Blimey, what a mess!" The Doctor stated as he, John and Rose came out from their hiding place. But it was the female standing on the flight deck that caught their attention. She looked to be in her early to mid twenties and she appeared to be taller, around 5ft 8in. Her hair was slightly longer and raven black coloured, her eyes were deep dark brown and her skin was naturally pale.
"Jaime?" J.D questioned and she looked at him. "Aye? Tha's my name," she replied. "It's a wee messy 'round here. Hell of a head rush tha' was!" Her eyes widened and then she laughed. "I'm Scots!" She exclaimed. "I've gan Scots. I've gan and turned Scots!" They were all staring at her. "Wha'?" "That's not the only thing that's changed." Rose stated.
Suddenly the TARDIS jerked roughly and they all tumbled to the floor. "Man the controls!" The Doctor shouted, jumping back to his feet and rushing to the console. John followed him. "Rose, a bit of help here." The Doctor shouted. "Coming." Rose ran to the console and followed the Doctor's instructions.
Jaime pulled herself to her feet, a grin on her face. "Och, I cannae believe this. I'm Scots. And it's awesome." She continued. "All the best people are Scots...like Billy Connolly, Chris Hoy, Andy Murray, Robert Carlyle...David Tennant." She said this last name with a grin. "But I'm forgettin' something. Wha' did I forget? Wha' was it?" Her eyes widened when she realised something. "Nae! Nae way! I'm not just Scots...I'm...a...GLASWEGIAN!" The Doctors and Rose looked over at Jaime in disbelief. "I'm a Glasgow gal!"
There was another rough jerk of the TARDIS and it almost knocked Jaime off her feet. "Wha's ganning on? Wha's happening?" She shouted. "We're crashing," the Doctor replied. "You might want to help us." "Fan-dabby-dozy!" Jaime uttered and ran to the console, pressing something even before the Doctor could tell her to. She felt surprise wash off all three of them and she grinned. "Tha's right, I'm an Omni-Psychic!"
