#32 - Shy

Yu-Gi-Oh doesn't belong to me, but to Kazuki Takahashi.

Mai Kujaku, the new teacher of first-year class B at Domino High, heard about the new student almost immediately after accepting her job post. How could she not?

"I heard it's a boy, and he got kicked out of Rintama High!"

"Ooh, Rintama High is so rough! If he got kicked out of there..."

"Nah, don't get your hopes up, my boyfriend goes to Rintama, and he's told me about the new kid. He's just some wimp. He probably got kicked out for being so pathetic."

"...Oh."

The rumors spread about the new boy weren't the nicest, and the new teacher found herself warming up to the boy considerably before they had even met. Though she had been informed of his background, as had the other teachers.

He was a quiet boy known as Sennen Yami, and the true reason he'd been transferred to Domino halfway through the school year was due to some rather odd incidents occurring around him. Several students and even a few teachers had been severely injured, and one student seemed on the brink of insanity. The school, negligent as it was, decided that something had to be done, but couldn't be bothered to carry out a full investigation. Instead, they'd picked out a link between the victims - Yami - and decided to see if by kicking him out, the incidents would stop. To Mai, it was ridiculous.

Yami started Domino High the next day. He had hair that was blonde at the front, spiked up black with magenta tips at the back, sharp purple eyes that reminded her of her own, and a black leather shirt was slightly visible under the compulsory white blouse he was wearing as a part of his school uniform, along with a choker.

Some of the girls seemed interested at first, but quickly lost their curiosity as he ignored them, sitting at the back of the class with a deck of cards.

"...I thought he was going to be cooler..."

"Told you he was pathetic."

'Poor kid,' she couldn't help but think sympathetically. 'His first day, and he's already being judged. I hope he makes some friends soon...'

Her eyes drifted to a group of kids at the opposite side of the classroom; Jounouchi Katsuya, Mazaki Anzu, Honda Hiroto, and Mutou Yuugi. The four were inseparable, and the thought made the teacher smile. Perhaps she could help Yami make some friends...

After asking him politely to move to the table of four, she watched to see what would happen. They seemed eager to speak to him, successfully getting him to talk, and even gaining his interest after discovering a common interest in games.

She was surprised to see a small blush on the new boy's face. He was sat across from Yuugi and Anzu, and Anzu was also blushing.

'Maybe he'll end up with more than just friends here. Perhaps a girlfriend, too...'

Needless to say, Mai was very surprised to see just how completely wrong her assumption was at the end of the period. Most of the class had already left, and only Yami and his new friends remained.

"Yuugi-Kun? C-can I talk to you for a second?"

His other friends left the room, leaving the two boys the only students left in the room.

"What's wrong, Yami-Kun?" He asked curiously, and Yami fidgeted a little, blushing again.

Finally, Mai understood.

"Umm... Are you doing anything this weekend? I heard there's a new arcade opening on Sunday..." He blushed brighter before stammering. "I-if you want to, that is!"

"Umm..." Yuugi appeared thoughtful, and Mai took the chance to leave the classroom. She felt she shouldn't intrude on the moment.

"Good luck, Yami-Kun..." She found herself whispering as she closed the door.

...Noooope. You don't get to know what Yuugi says back. XD

Shy!Yami is so adorable! Cool!Yami is so overrated, it's so much cuter when he's a shy nerdy kid with hidden anger issues. x3 Thanks to Scaehime, samaurai, ChangeOfHe4rt, xfallenangel13x, Great and a for reviewing!
