Aiden got up from his desk and stretched a bit, he had just finished installing his phone's new processor. Now all he had to do was find a safe place that was close to Abstergo's headquarters so he could access their database and see what they had to say about Desmond and this 'Apple of Eden' that he was talking about. He thought about looking through the files he stole from Abstergo to see if they had anything about it. Or, he could try to find out who that Matt was that apparently hacked his phone earlier. Well, both were pretty important, he thought. He decided to flip a coin, heads he read up on the Apple, tails he tried to track Matt. So he threw the coin up in the air, and when it hit the table it did something interesting, something Aiden had never seen before. It landed on its side.
"Huh, how about that…" Aiden said to himself.
He decided to have a snack and read about the Apple of Eden, for no reason other than it was the first thing he thought of. As he was getting a Snickers, he realized he wouldn't be able to track Matt anyway, since his phone was still doing firmware updates from the processor. He grabbed the folder labeled 'Pieces of Eden' and sat down. He figured it probably would have info on the Apple, since they both had Eden in them.
It was a massive folder, there had to be several hundred pages in it. As Aiden took a bite of his Snickers and opened the folder, he realized he would probably be there for a long while. Well, thought, looking at the first page, at least it would probably be interesting.
Desmond looked out across Chicago from atop the Willis Tower's roof, or the Sears Tower, as most Chicagoans still called it. How had he gotten here? Why was he still alive? And why was he still trying to get revenge on Abstergo? He didn't know about the first two questions, but he did know about the third one. Once he managed to get ahold of Dedsec's Apple of Eden, he would be able to walk straight into Abstergo and get the answers he wanted.
"Desmond Miles?"
Desmond flinched at his voice being said, and turned to face the man who said it. He looked to be in his early twenties, and he had blonde hair and dark blue eyes that were bloodshot.
"Can I help you?" Desmond asked suspiciously.
The man's eyes seemed to pulse, and then suddenly got brighter as a faint golden glow emanated from around him. Desmond immediately recognized the effects of an Apple, and stepped back from him as he pulled out a gun.
"This is your first warning, back off." The man said, pointing the gun at Desmond. Desmond's training kicked in and he attempted to grab the gun from him. The man swung his gun around and used his other arm to grab for the arm that Desmond was swinging. Desmond went for a kick at his legs, and the man jumped back, barely avoiding having his legs swept out from under him. Desmond jumped forward and punched him in the face. The man flinched as a reaction, and shot his gun several times randomly. None of the shots hit Desmond, and as his attacked was disorientated he grabbed the gun and shot his leg. Naturally, the man collapsed, but he managed to remain half-standing as he held onto the railing of the deck.
"Now, you're going to tell me why you attacked me, and what you meant by it was my first warning." Desmond said, putting the gun to the man's head.
"Dedsec would prefer to keep their Apple." The man said. His eyes glowed golden, and the gun was knocked from Desmond's hand. The man's bullet wound instantly healed, and he stood up.
"Goodbye Desmond, don't make us have to give you a second warning."
And with that, he jumped off the building.
"NO!" Desmond shouted, running to the edge. He looked over as the man fell to his death.
Dedsec had just killed a civilian in order to send Desmond a message to back off. Who knows what they would do if he tried to steal the Apple or meet up with Rebecca like he had planned? He couldn't risk another confrontation like that. What if there were people around next time? What if they used machine guns? Desmond stopped his thoughts for a moment. He couldn't start thinking like that, if he gave up then he would never get the answers he needed, he would never be able to know how he survived, he would never get the Apple.
He got back into the elevator, but just as he was about to hit the button to go down, he decided against it. That would be the most obvious route, and there were likely already people waiting at the bottom since surely the guy had hit the ground by now. He got out of the elevator and went into the stairs. One-hundred and seven floors, he thought to himself. At least he wouldn't have to deal with people at the bottom of the elevator, and if there were any on the stairs he could tell them he was on a different floor of the building at the time.
Aiden had just finished reading about the Apple and other Pieces of Eden from the Abstergo files. Wow, he thought. That was some pretty insane stuff. He was finding it all hard to believe. Well, he knew one thing for sure. Desmond had gotten himself involved in some pretty dark stuff, this battle between Templars and Assassins had been going on since the beginning of humanity after all. Aiden could only imagine how many had died over these pieces, to each try to control the world, but in different ways. And now he was involved in this fight to! Well, Aiden would do his best to stay out of it, he would just do what Desmond wanted him to and he would go back to his normal life. Well, normal being a relative term.
