Chapter 8: Surprise

In the past….

Nessie's POV

It was now the early March 2005. I have already been here for nearly two months. I couldn't believe how fast time was going by. A lot has definitely happened in the past two months.

Watching my mother and father interact with each other is very interesting. My father has been trying to avoid my mother ever since Tyler nearly crushed her with his van and my father was inexplicably able to save my mom from certain death. Because of said incident my mother now knows something is different about my father. It has been extremely hard to not say that he is a vampire that is severely attracted to your blood. Yeah, that would go over really well. Although after yesterday's encounter with Jacob at La Push beach I think that she might suspect something. Jacob's stories about the "cold ones" seem to have sparked an odd curiosity in her.

I love hanging out with my human mother. She is definitely the very best friend that I ever had. Never thought that I'd say that about my mother.

"Carlie" Bella said.

"Yes Bella?" I said.

"Here" she said as she tossed me the keys to her truck.

"What are the keys for?" I asked.

"Isn't today your first doctor's appointment?" she asked.

"Yeah it is, but don't you need your car?" I asked.

"No I'm not planning on doing anything today, so you can use it" she said.

"Okay thanks" I said.

I quickly got ready, ate breakfast , and then left. I couldn't wait to get to my appointment, it was exciting. I was also anxious to find out how the baby was developing. I wondered if it was a boy or a girl. I've been thinking of a lot of different names, but I hadn't quite decided on one. For a boy I'm thinking of Carlisle Edward or Jacob Jr. Carlisle Edward seemed to be winning out over Jacob Jr mainly because of it's refrence to two men that I love so much. I sighed, I really really missed my family and I'd do anything to see them again. I missed them so much that it hurt. Often times I wonder if time travelling was really the best solution to my problem. I love my family so much. I wished that I could go back and find a way to fix things with them. But the chances of that happening are extremely low.

I soon found myself in front of the hospital.

When I went to check in they told me that my doctor had called in sick and that I'd have a new one, at least for this time.

I waited and waited for what felt like a long time until my name was finally called. They weighed me and did all the other usual things that happen at doctors appointments.

My heart stopped and then broke into a full on sprint when my grandfather walked in. I couldn't believe that he was right here in front of me. Of course there was nothing different about him physically. The only difference is that he wouldn't recognize me.

"Carlie?" he said looking at me in concern.

I quickly snapped out of it.

"Um sorry sir?" I said.

"I'm Dr. Cullen, you're Carlie?" he asked.

"Yes" I said.

"So it says here that you're pregnant. How far along are you?" he asked.

"Three months" I said.

"Okay, I'm going to do an ultrasound to see how the baby is developing" he said.

"Okay" I said.

I jumped a little at the cold gel that he put on my stomach. I wasn't expecting that at all. Then he got the machine ready and an image appeared on the screen.

He stared at the screen for a long time. It was much to long and I was starting to get really nervous that something was wrong.

"Is everything okay?" I was afraid to ask but I needed to know.

"Well Carlie there is two babies in there. You're expecting twins" he said.

Shock was the only emotion that I could register.

"Twins?" I asked just to make sure that I heard correctly.

"Yes. It looks like you are having identical twin boys" he said.

"Are they okay?" I asked.

"Yes, they're okay. Everything looks normal. I'm going to prescribe you some prenatal vitamins, and I'm going to give you a list of things that you should eat to make sure that your babies develop normally" he said.

"Okay, thanks Dr. Cullen" I said.

Twins. I couldn't believe that I was having twin boys. My Carlisle Edward and Jacob Jr. My two baby boys. The thought made me smile.

Future Jacob's POV

I had closed my eyes for the trip as I felt the world disappear and then reappear around me. I didn't like the feeling of time travel at all. It wasn't until I was sure that we were done travelling that I opened my eyes.

I looked around and saw Carlisle, and Bella but no Edward. That was weird.

"It worked" Bella said.

"Yes it did, but did we make it into the correct time? Also, where is Edward?" Carlisle asked.

We called out for Edward over and over again but we didn't see him or hear him anywhere. I was starting to get a bad feeling about this.

I found a newspaper which had the date of March 6th 2005.

"Um Carlisle, it looks like we are in the right time" I said as I showed him and Bella the newspaper.

Carlisle didn't seem to be paying much attention to what I was saying though.

"Carlisle are you okay?" Bella asked.

"No, the oddest thing just happened. I had a memory of Nessie only at the time I didn't know it was Nessie, she was Carlie" he said.

"What was the memory?" I asked.

"Let's see. I was in charge of her doctor's appointment because the other one had called in sick. I did an ultrasound on her and she was pregnant with identical twins" he said.

"Twins!" Bella and I shouted at the same time.

"Yes, twin boys. But then later on that same day she got into a car accident and miscarried one of them, which only left her with Carlisle Edward" he said.

"What was the date?" I asked desperately

"March 6th 2005" he said.

"That's today!" I said.

"We are still on time to prevent the accident from happening. I know exactly when and where it is going to happen because I was the one that treated her injuries" he said.

"Where?" I asked.

Then Carlisle's eyes widened as another memory and I assumed another memory came to him.

"and I know what happened to Edward" he said.

"What?" Bella asked nervously.

"He's in Chicago but in the year 1918"
