Watch dog, noun
A person or group of persons who acts as a guardian against theft or illegal practices or waste.
An individual who sees behind the curtain and is prepared to step forward when the need arises.
Jordi laughed at the definition on his phone, he thought it was funny that Aiden considered himself a 'Watch Dog'. He got a strange look from the lady sitting next to him on the train, but the hell did he care what others thought of him? Especially not random people on trains judging him for laughing. Well, whatever the case, the lady was getting off at the next stop, so it's not like he cared. He knew because he had been given access to the CtOS from his good friend Aiden. Before Aiden, he didn't really have any friends, he just took contracts and jobs from whoever needed something done, whether it be a convoy stopped, a body disposed of, or even someone killed. Now he even had a few friends; Clara, T-Bone, and of course, Aiden. He sighed, his entire life had been changed by Aiden this past year. But, truth be told, he was glad it had changed, he'd actually been kind of lonely before.
He had been out of town for the past month working an international job; he had been hired by a very eccentric billionaire to capture and bring to him all of his old high school classmates who had bullied him. Turns out most of them had become businessmen in famous corporations, one was even a CEO of one of the corporations, it turned out. Making them disappear without a trace wasn't easy, which is what had taken him so long. Once he had brought them back to the billionaire's mansion, well, he wasn't sure what the billionaire did with them, and quite frankly, he didn't want to know, since it was pretty obvious that he was insane. He left as soon as he could, Jordi could be a bit crazy at times, but that billionaire was a total psycho.
But now he was back in Chicago. Ah, wonderful Chicago, he thought to himself as he looked out the train window and at the skyline. Surely things would go back to normal now that he was back here. Well, his life wasn't exactly normal, but it would certainly more normal than it had been the past month.
"Millenium Park Station, next stop." The voice on the intercom said.
This was Jordi's stop. He wanted to take a bit of a walk around the park before heading back to his apartment. Besides, it'd give him a chance to use the Profiler on his phone, he loved reading the interesting facts about people that always came up. He had other hacks, but he didn't particularly need them. No, he was in the business for far too many years for them to be of any use to him. So he just used the Profiler, to read a bit into people's lives.
He got off the train and headed down the stairs and towards the park. He wondered if he should call his friends, let them know he was back in town. Nah, he thought. I'll tell 'em later.
Aiden was uploading the data he had taken from Ms. Frost to his server when he got a text from Desmond. "Milen park 1hr mke sre Abstergo agents dosnt come close to me gtg" Huh, Aiden thought. Desmond seemed to be in a bit of a hurry, it seemed. Aiden still thought it was crazy that any Abstergo agents would find Desmond in the park, but then he thought back to what he told him the day before, that it doesn't hurt to be too careful. He figured Desmond was right, it never hurt to be too careful, he thought as he got onto a train headed towards the park.
Once Aiden got to the park, he began looking around for Desmond. He wasn't that hard to find, his pure white hoodie with red trim stood out against the bright green grass of the Great Lawn that he was sitting on. Well, Aiden thought, he sure didn't seem to be in any hurry. Aiden walked over to him and sat down.
"Hey." Desmond said without looking up.
"Hey yourself. So, you gonna have your meeting with your old friend today?"
"Yep."
"Cool." Aiden said, nodding awkwardly, noting how quiet Desmond seemed. "You okay, man?" He asked, concerned about Desmond.
"Yeah, just a bit nervous."
"Okay, fair enough. I would be too."
"I don't mean to be rude, but do you think you could get started looking around, making sure there aren't any Abstergo agents or anything like that around?"
"Oh, yeah, sure. 'Course." Aiden said, quickly getting up. "I'll go do that now."
And with that, he left Desmond to go check around the park.
But as he was walking away, he thought of the girl he had met the day before, Rebecca. She said she was in town meeting with someone from her work, but she didn't know who. An old friend. Could Desmond be meeting her? It was certainly a possibility. With that thought, he left Desmond.
Rebecca was walking around the park, looking around, enjoying the sculptures and the cool breeze blowing through her hair. She was also keeping an eye out for any of her friends, since she still didn't know who had called her all the way down here. As she was walking around, she noticed Aiden, with his face mask pulled up, looking at his phone.
"Hey!" She said to him as she walked up. Aiden looked up at her from his phone.
"Oh, hey! Fancy seeing you here."
"Yeah, to be honest, I didn't think I would see you again."
"And yet, here I am." Aiden said with a flourish. "But I'm actually helping someone with something right now, so I can't talk. Maybe later? I'll still be in the park a bit afterwards, probably."
"Oh, okay, sure thing. I've got to meet an old friend anyway." Rebecca said, a tiny bit disappointed. She liked Aiden, he was a lot cooler than the media made him out to be.
"Alright then, see you around!" Aiden said, jogging off in the direction of the Plaza.
Rebecca watched him for a moment before walking off.
Desmond was still sitting on the grass, keeping an eye out for his old friend, Rebecca. It'd been nearly a year since he had seen her in person. He had looked her up, of course, made sure she was still alive. It was surprisingly easy to find her, she was so good of hacker that she didn't leave a trace, so she didn't need to use false identities on anything. Desmond realized that he now knew two top-notch hackers. It seemed like everyone could hack these days. Whatever the case, it would be good to see her again.
"You." Desmond heard from behind him. "You died. But you're not dead."
"Funny how things work out sometimes, isn't it?"
"But how did you-"
"Not die? I'm not quite sure, to be honest with you."
There was a moment of silence before Desmond spoke again.
"Have a seat, I'll tell you the story." Desmond said, patting the grass next to him. As Rebecca said down, he began to tell her what had happened after the incident with the device in the Temple, when he was supposed to have died but didn't.
"Wow." Rebecca said, her eyes unfocusing as she stared into the distance.
"Yeah, it's some pretty crazy stuff."
"You bet it is."
Rebecca's eyes snapped back into focus as she realized something. "Hey, aren't you worried about Abstergo tracking you? I mean, surely they must be after you."
"Oh, right. I hired that vigilante, Aiden Pearce, to keep an eye out for any Abstergo agents while we talked."
"Really? I ran into him yesterday! And saw him today; he said he was on a job, I'm guessing that would be the one you hired him for?"
"You would be correct. And you ran into him yesterday?" Rebecca nodded. "Huh, small world. Or city. Whatever."
"Sure is."
There was another moment of silence.
"So, are we just gonna sit here watching some dude bounce a soccer ball around or are you gonna tell me why you called me here?"
"I called you here," Desmond paused. "because I need the best hacker I know to hack Dedsec for me."
"Dedsec!? Are you joking? Desmond, do you know what they're capable of?" Rebecca nearly shouted at Desmond.
Desmond thought back to the incident on the Willis Tower the previous day.
"Yes, I do know what they're capable of."
"Then why do you want me to hack them? What do you need stolen?"
"They have an Apple. And it's corrupted them, they're not 'cyber-warriors' or whatever anymore, the Apple has taken over their minds. I'm not gonna lie, I want the Apple, but I also want to save them."
Rebecca just looked at him for a few moments before looking away. Desmond looked back at her. "Do you have an answer?"
"I'm thinking." Rebecca snapped at him.
About a minute passed before she spoke again.
"Alright, I'll help you."
Desmond smiled.
"Thank you, Rebec-"
"But only if you tell me one thing."
Desmond raised his eyebrows and turned to look at her. "Tell you what?"
"What do you want the Apple for? You said you wanted it for a reason other than to save them."
Desmond looked down at the grass before looking back up at her.
"I need to use it to find my father."
Aiden was walking down a path when a notification popped up saying that someone was an Abstergo employee. Huh, Desmond was right, there were Abstergo agents here, he thought. And she was heading in the direction of Desmond. He hacked her phone and began to go through her files. It seemed she had a fiancé. He called her, hoping she would answer. She did.
"Hello?"
"Yes, is this Ms. Austin who I am speaking to?"
"Yes, that's me…"
"Well, your fiancé was shot a few minutes ago, he's being taken to Weiss Memorial Hospital as we speak."
"Oh my god! Is he okay?!"
"Well, his condition is currently stable, but he needs to be taken to surgery right away. I'd advise getting here as soon as possible"
"Okay, thank you! Please let him know I'm on my way!"
"No problem, ma'am."
She hung up before looking over in Desmond's direction, then running off. Well, that was one problem solved. He just hoped there weren't any more agents here, he thought, hacking a camera as he did.
"Aiden! Hey!"
Aiden turned around as he heard the voice.
"Jordi! You're back!"
"You betcha! Funny us running into each other, isn't it?" Jordi crossed his arms and smiled at Aiden.
"Uh, yeah, it is. Hey listen, I'm kind of doing a job right now, I know you just got back, but do you think you could help me out with it?"
"Oh, sure, what the hell, why not? I haven't helped you out with anything in awhile, it'd be good to show you how it's done." Jordi said, still grinning.
Aiden rolled his eyes at Jordi. "Anyway, I need you to check people and make sure that there aren't any Abstergo employees in the park. I can't tell you why, I just need you to."
"Alright, sure thing." Jordi said, a bit confused. But a lot of things that Aiden did confused him. The man didn't have the best of pasts, and didn't like getting too deep into it.
But then, Aiden got a call from Desmond. He held up a finger to signal for Jordi to wait, then he answered his phone.
"Hey, the meeting's over, you can call it a day."
"Alright then. Everything go well with your friend?"
"Yeah, really well. She said she knows you, actually."
Aiden paused. So he was right about Rebecca. "Rebecca? I thought it might be her, she mentioned a meeting with an old friend."
"Well, you were right. I gotta go, I'll talk to you later."
"Okay, talk to you then."
Desmond hung up the phone.
"Well, it looks like you get out of helping me today." Aiden said to Jordi.
"Oh, lovely. I'll just head home, then."
"You do that, Jordi."
Jordi walked off, leaving Aiden standing there for a minute. Him and Jordi were friends, but sometimes he didn't really understand their friendship. Aiden turned to look back at Jordi, but he wasn't there anymore. I should probably get going too, Aiden thought, before leaving. He was glad Desmond's meeting went well.
