"So guess what, Des?"
"What, Rebecca?"
"I'm in the system now." Rebecca said with a tone in her voice that said that she was pretty proud.
"No way, really?" Desmond asked her, excited that now they had CtOS access.
"Hell yeah, I'm transferring the data to your phone now, so you can hack stuff and crap like that."
They probably could have asked Aiden to get into the network for them, but the cops and DedSec already knew that Aiden was in the system, so they needed to make another breach in the system, so that it would take longer for DedSec and the like to realize what was going on. Of course, they probably already knew by now, but hey, it didn't hurt to be safe.
"So yeah, I've got some more stuff to do, you can screw around with that while I do some research on these guys."
"Sounds good, I bet I'll have loads of fun with this…"
"The app is called CtOS by the way. And hey, try not to kill anyone, will you? We are still Assassins, remember? Follow the Creed and all that stuff."
"Oh, yeah, don't worry, I haven't forgotten."
Desmond looked at the caller ID on his phone before answering.
"Hey m-"
"Listen Desmond this is very important I don't have a lot of time DedSec has a fleet of drones and they're after me so I'm going to have to disappear for a bit to shake these things I'm sorry but I left everything back at my apartment just break in I deactivated the alarms sorry I really have to go I'll talk to you when I can"
And then Aiden hung up, before Desmond could say anything.
"The hell…" Desmond said, looking at his phone in bewilderment.
DedSec has a fleet of drones? How was that possible? What did they do, just steal them from the government or something? Actually, that was probably how they got them, knowing the power they had.
But why were they after Aiden? Maybe they knew Desmond was working with him, and therefore wanted him out of the picture? But if that was the case, then why didn't they just come after Desmond instead?
At that moment, Desmond heard what sounded like a jet engine behind him. The people that were on the streets all starting screaming and panicking. Desmond didn't have to turn around to figure out what was behind him, but he turned around anyway.
There it was, floating right in the middle of the street, pointed at Desmond, who was standing on the sidewalk looking at it, as people fled from it around him. A drone. Aiden wasn't lying, DedSec actually did have drones. Well, or at least one.
"DESMOND MILES. THIS IS YOUR THIRD WARNING, IF YOU CHOOSE TO CALL OFF PEARCE WE WILL NOT KILL YOU OR HIM. BUT IF YOU CONTINUE YOUR ACTIONS WE WILL KILL BOTH OF YOU. YOU HAVE ONE MINUTE. IF YOU RUN WE WILL KILL YOU AND PEARCE."
"Well, shit. Alright, give me a minute!" Desmond said, looking around to see if there was anywhere he could run. But if he did run, they would kill Pearce, and he couldn't let him die… This was quite the situation he had found himself in.
"FORTY-FIVE SECONDS."
But what if they didn't have Pearce…? What if they were just bluffing? But then again, they did have drones, and it kind of seemed unlikely that Aiden had evaded them, as good as he was at hiding. Buuut, Desmond had only gotten that warning call from Pierce a few minutes before the drone appeared. Were drones that fast?
"THIRTY SECONDS."
Wait! I've got hacks now! He thought to himself. Was the drone connected to the CtOS? It seemed unlikely, but he didn't have a lot of options here. Desmond brought up the app Rebecca installed and brought up the wheel of hacks that were currently available to him.
"FIFTEEN SECONDS."
Scrolling through the wheel he came across one hack that caught his attention: DRONE_02_CONTROL.
Well, if there was any hack that would stop the drone that was now counting down from ten, this was it.
"FIVE. FOUR. THR-"
Desmond closed his eyes and pressed the button on his phone that hacked the drone just as it was about to kill him.
Well, he thought, I'm not dead, so it must have worked.
Desmond opened his eyes and looked at the drone, floating there and looking menacing, but no longer counting down.
"Oh my god it actually worked." he said to himself, staring at the drone.
"It worked! Yeah!" he pumped his fist in the air as he laughed, still alive.
He walked over to the drone and looked right into the camera.
"Whatchu gonna do now, DedSec? Looks like I've got your drone, doesn't it? Shouldn't have had it connected to the city's grid, anyone could just take it if they wanted to." Desmond said in his most sarcastic tone of voice.
Desmond looked at his phone and realized an interface had come up. It looked like a controller, with two joysticks and buttons, labeled with aim, fire, switch weapon, and cloak. There was also a view from the drone in the middle of the controller.
Well, having the thing floating in the middle of the street probably wasn't the best of ideas, so Desmond used the camera to guide it to the top of the building he was next to and land it on the roof. He powered it off and decided he would find a better place for it, since DedSec could probably find some way to get it back.
Desmond was leaving the street as he heard sirens nearby. Lots of sirens. Well, at least they wouldn't be able to catch him.
Desmond picked the lock on Aiden's apartment door and went inside. It looked pretty much how it had when he first went there, to discuss an arrangement with Aiden. He found Aiden's desk and sat down. There was nothing on it except for a flash drive, so he plugged it into the computer and turned it on.
"Scanning retinal image, please remain still." the computer said and surprised Desmond.
But, he remained still and the computer scanned his eye and logged him in. Aiden must have given him access-wait, but how had he gotten his retinal scan? Eh, whatever. Questions for another time, Desmond decided.
He opened up the flash drive and began looking at the files.
"The hell…"
They had recently taken complete control of a satellite, only allowing themselves to access it…?
"What do they need a satellite for…?" Desmond said to himself, diving deeper into the files...
