It was October, and in Domino, it was already snowing. And the snow remained as a thick blanket beneath their feet, without having melted even though it had been a week since the first snowfall. In fact, the nights were still filled with snow constantly, and it was becoming a common daytime occurrence, too. Even the pond at the Domino Park had frozen over, and Yuugi Mutou and two of his best friends, Atem and Mana Kanika, were amongst those making the most of it.
"Race you to the other side!" Mana yelled to the other two as she pointed to the tree at the opposite end of the frozen pond, just by the edge of the ice. After making sure she had their attention, she grinned. "Three, two, one... Race start!"
Yuugi and Atem watched in amusement as she took off on her ice-skates.
"...When do we tell her we're not racing?" Yuugi asked, making Atem smirk as he watched his sister laughing and cheering halfway across, assuming she was winning.
"She'll figure it out. Or not." His smirk deepened. "For now, let's just let her have her fun."
Mana didn't notice that she'd been tricked until she reached the 'finish line', panting as she held onto the tree and whooping victoriously. "Woooo! Ha, I actually won for once-" She froze as she turned around, seeing her friend and brother sniggering, having not moved at all. "...Wait a second! HEY! You tricked me!"
The eyes of both boys widened in surprise when she began skating rapidly back across the ice, heading straight for them.
"Oh, shit, run!" Atem practically screamed, tearing across in another direction. Without thinking, Yuugi instinctively reached over and grabbed his hand, both skating in sync as they attempted to escape. Mana growled, giving up.
"You win this time..." She grumbled with a pout. "But you'd better watch your backs..."
Yuugi gulped, and Atem rolled his eyes. "Pfft, relax, Aibou. What's the worst she could do?"
"Famous last words..." He mumbled, before noticing their still-joined hands. Atem followed his gaze, and both tried to disguise blushes, quickly letting go. "Umm, so..." Yuugi avoided his gaze in embarrassment, seeing Mana shoot him a thumbs up and a wink in the distance. The truth was, Yuugi had been crushing on Atem for a while now, and the only other person who knew was his crush's sister. Mana was a very mischievous girl and wherever she went, mayhem would usually follow. However, keeping secrets was one thing she could be trusted with; she would never betray her friends' loyalty like that, meaning she was the ideal person to admit his crush to, despite how much she teased him about it.
He glared at her, waving his hand in dismissal, and she shrugged, eyes glittering in mirth.
Yuugi didn't like the look of that. She was up to something, he could feel it.
"-bou? Hey, Aibou!"
"Hmm?" Said boy turned around upon realizing his fried had been trying to get his attention. Atem glared playfully, feigning a hurt expression.
"Well, you took your time! I just wanted to know if you wanted to come over on Saturday to watch a movie." He ducked his head after saying this, seeming rather embarrassed.
"Sure!" Yuugi smiled. "What movie are we watching?"
Atem grinned. "We're watching Ana to Yuki no Joou, I think. Mana's idea, she thought it was fitting because of the weather." The youngest laughed.
"That sounds about right. Yeah, no problem! I'll ask grandpa when I get home, but I'm sure he'll say yes."
"Great!" Atem's grin widened in relief. There was silence for a moment, and the boy's expression slowly changed to a thoughtful frown. "Umm... Can we make it a sleepover?" After a second he quickly added. "That was Mana's idea, too!"
Yuugi nodded, rolling his eyes. "Yup, okay, I've got no problems with that, thanks for letting me know in advance so I know to get my stuff." Atem looked relieved.
"I think she wants to steal you from me," he joked, gesturing to his sister, who was currently skating with her boyfriend Marik and throwing snowballs at unsuspecting passers-by. They were a nightmare whenever they teamed up, and Atem wasn't sure he wanted them to be together. "Maybe she wants to to be her best friend instead of mine, she's always asking for you to come over." Even though he was only joking, it still caused Yuugi to snigger for an entirely different reason; he knew the real reason.
"Pfft, probably," he laughed. "So, have you seen Ana to Yuki no Joou before?"
"Yeah, Mana's obsessed with that movie," he confirmed. "She made me watch it with her, it's okay, I guess."
"Liar!" a female voice yelled from across the pond. "We've watched it three time now, and just the other night I heard you singing 'Ari No Mama De' in the shower in five different languages! You're obsessed!"
Atem, to Yuugi's surprise, blushed in embarrassment, yelling at his sister. "MANA! What the hell?!"
Marik howled with laugher, and Mana smiled cheekily. "What? I'm only telling him the truth! You listen to that song nonstop when you think no-one's around!"
"Why you..!"
Yuugi laughed, patting him on the shoulder as Mana and Marik skated away. "Relax, that's sorta cute, actually," He teased, causing another blush. Yuugi leaned forwards, getting close to Atem's face to tease him some more, only to yelp as something cold collided with the back of his head and caused him to topple forwards, his lips colliding with Atem's. Both let out a squeak of surprise, but did nothing to pull away.
"Umm... So I take it you like me, too?" Atem asked shyly as they parted, and Yuugi gave an equally shy nod.
"Umm... Yeah..."
"Well, I threw that at you to get revenge for the race thing, but I guess this works too. You two were taking your time!" Mana chirped, watching her boyfriend throw another snowball at a white-haired boy who proceeded to chase Marik mercilessly.
"W-what?! You knew along?!" Atem yelped.
Yuugi laughed, taking his hand and dragging away the one he loved. "Yup, now move it, Elsa."
"...Hey! Aibou, stop teasing me!"
After a bit of research, I found out that the Japanese version of Frozen is called 'Ana to Yuki no Joou', so that's what they were referring to, if that wasn't obvious from the disclaimer. 'Ari no Mama de' is the Japanese version of 'Let It Go', and am I the only one who thinks that Yami singing Let It Go when he thinks he's alone in the house would be absolutely adorable? I've actually done that several times before, singing the full song multi-language when doing the dishes, and listening to the serbian version while I was in the shower. Ah, being alone in the house is fun. I originally had no idea I was going to incorporate that into the oneshot, the main idea was Mana throwing a snowball at them while they were ice skating and them ending up in a compromising position, but I really like the path this took. It contrasts nicely with the dark and tragic theme of the previous one in this collection.
Regarding that, I wasn't surprised that there were a few of you who weren't too sure about the last one, I sort of expected it, not everyone likes that sort of theme. Still, I was shocked that nobody really seemed to think it was written badly, and that a lot of you even said it was written well! I actually didn't think it flowed, but that could be due to constant rereading of certain part, I dunno. Still, thanks everyone, you're all so awesome and sweet! x3
By the way, I've come up with another idea for a story, so I've decided that I'll just pick my favorite later and start it once I finish high school since I'll have plenty more time then. One month to go! XD
Thanks to all my reviewers, and a shoutout to everyone who reviewed the last chapter (Not bothering with underlining, it takes too long); Sliferesque, Chaos Twin of Destruction, YugiohFreak19, Fragments of Imagination, samaurai, Scaehime, Lunagale, Envytastic, TheCrystalEevee, Invader-Techno, Dark-Wiccan-Goddess and yamikage!
