Angela smiled warmly at Chas as he picked listlessly at his diner food. Conversation was proving difficult.

For all she knew any conversation between the two of them could be difficult, the fact was she'd never spoken to Chas in normal circumstances, she had no idea what he was like bar the occasional snippets Constantine had given her. Added to the fact he was a potential threat and he viewed her as an interrogator and awkward was hardly the word for it.

As it was, it was hard concentrating on Chas in this public space; once or twice she'd thought he was lying only to realise she was picking up a stray emotion from someone nearby. By focusing on him she managed to block out most of the white noise but if someone in the vicinity felt something unusually strong it could still break through.

None of this fazed Angela though; she was a cop after all. She could fake nice. Besides which, whether she knew Chas or not he'd played a significant part in saving her life. She couldn't help but feel warmth towards him. He looked a picture too; cute, young, dishevelled clothing, feathered wings.. She was new to this business but she couldn't imagine a demon looking like Chas did, John however disagreed.

Still, that was what she was here to find out.

'So, John tells me you broke into his apartment.'

'Yeah? You're a cop right, I'm right in thinking breaking and entering requires some actual breaking? Can you get arrested for, 'entering'?'

'Did you do it with his consent?'

Chas looked startled for a moment. 'Can you prove I didn't?'

Angela smiled again. Her purpose here was to find out if Chas was lying and so far no lies she could discern. The way he acted corresponded to the feelings she sensed from him, she wasn't sensing any ill intention or deception. She also wasn't mentioning John for a while; she was only just learning to separate emotions in people and the mere mention of John caused too much in Chas for her to take.

Truth be told, you're probably contributing some of that confusion yourself.

She started to ask another question when she was suddenly hit by a passing wave of shock. Across the room she noticed a young girl crying loudly; seeing she was on a cell phone Angela could only assume she was fighting with someone. She exhaled slowly as she relaxed her tensed muscles, the only person in the room to react to the girls cry with anything other than a curious glance. She turned back to Chas whose eyes were fixed on the girl, and whom she now saw was wincing as though he'd received a sudden shock to the system.

Perhaps not the only one then.

'Chas, are you okay?'

'What? Yeah I'm fine,' he tore his gaze away and smiled at her vaguely. It didn't take psychic abilities to see he was disturbed by something, though they continued telling her nonetheless.

'Chas, can you.. Did you sense that?'

He smiled for a second longer and then it slipped. 'That and everything else in here. I'd ask to go somewhere quieter but I'm afraid John'll jump out and kill me if I do.'

'Why didn't you say something?'

'John. Jumping. Killing. I thought I just said that.'

She stared at him and he shrugged tiredly.

'Didn't seem that important. I don't think he would take it well anyway, he's hardly Mr. Sharing, you know?'

Angela smirked, and Chas looked at her with more focus than he'd seemed to possess before.

'And I know you know.'

Her smile faded. In probing Chas she'd let her defences down. Not smart.

'It seems to be stronger in people I know, or people I knew before this happened.'

'You mean John.'

'And you. Now you've done the psychic wall thing, this is the quietest it's been all day', he gestured around the crowded diner with a small smile.

Angela raised an eyebrow in surprise.

'You think you know me?'

'No. I don't know you Angela, you don't know me either. But I helped save your life, and you saw me die a few minutes later. That's enough.'

He sat back and his eyes lost some of their intensity. He suddenly looked very young. 'Sorry, sometimes it feels like it's these things talking not me,' he flared his wings as he spoke. 'You can see these things right? Otherwise I just looked completely crazy then'

'Yeah, I can see them.'

I can see the angel I'm talking to in downtown LA while I wait to report back my psychic findings to his exorcist mentor. Talk about crazy.

A/N: To keep you ticking over! I apologise for my totally abysmal knowledge of Angela and her powers.
