How Demyx Met Zexion
Demyx groaned as he got back his latest reading exam and stared at the huge red number in the right hand corner. Saix was going to kill him for failing, again, he couldn't even remember the last time he had gotten a score higher than a D on these tests. He knew it was his fault, he just had so much trouble understanding what he was reading, especially with books, he just couldn't remember what he read very well.
Put him in front of some music and he sang like a bird, throw him in the water and he swam like a fish. Give him a book and he'd be as useless as a sloth, he hit his head on his desk as he groaned aloud again, earning a whack from his classmate next to him.
Class seemed to pass by quickly after that, it was like time loved his misery and couldn't wait to see him get in trouble with Saix. Demyx reluctantly made his way home, following behind his younger twin brothers who were chatting happily. When they finally got to the house, Demyx figured it'd be a while till Saix got home, he could probably get rid of the test before then.
Of course luck was not on his side, as they entered the house he saw Saix had just arrived back as well, coming down the stairs from changing into something more comfortable. Saix caught Demyx's eyes before heading for his office, Demyx grudgingly followed after, knowing he wasn't going to like this.
As they reached the office, Demyx slouched into the chair across from Saix as the man sat at his desk. He held a hand out silently and Demyx reluctantly gave him his test. Demyx looked at the floor, trying to look as regretful as possible with his score. He heard Saix sigh and knew his brother was disappointed.
"Demyx..." Saix began.
Demyx stopped him, "I know...I'm sorry! I really did try!"
"Did you read any of the assigned passages?"
"Of course I did! I just don't understand any of them..." Demyx grumbled.
Saix sighed, "I'll talk to your teacher...for now you are grounded from the pool and music."
"That's not fair!" Demyx argued.
Saix stared at him, "If you don't do well then you need a little incentive. If you pass your next test with better then a C you can have it all back."
Demyx knew not to argue with Saix, "Yes sir..."
Demyx grumbled as he made his way to his room, he hated this class so much. He threw his bag onto his bed and flopped down on it. He glanced at his desk where the books for his next test sat, mocking him. He got up and grabbed the books before sitting on his bed and he looked at the cover.
He hated the fact that this next section was a mix of plays and musicals. The two plays they were looking at were: I Want to be Your Canary and Loveless. The musical was actually an opera and was titled: The Dream Oath: Maria and Draco. Musicals and Operas were more up his alley, but he still wasn't good with them.
He began to leaf through the first play and then the second and then the opera, though he knew he wasn't really understanding the content. He just couldn't concentrate on the words and he couldn't stop his mind from drifting. He sighed before laying back on his bed and closing his eyes. He hated the class and the reading, all he wanted to do was take music classes, but he wasn't allowed to do that.
As Demyx stared across his room at his fish tank he began to doze off and it wasn't long till he fell into a deep sleep. Demyx awoke the next morning, surprised that he had slept through dinner. Glancing at the time he jumped out of bed and quickly got changed before running downstairs for a quick breakfast.
He ran out of the house after his brothers who had already left. He was gasping as he finally reached his classroom, having run non-stop to make it in time. He moved into the class and avoided looking at his teacher, knowing that if they had a quiz today he would fail.
The class passed in pure boredom, luckily for Demyx there was no quiz. As the bell rang signaling the end of class, Demyx hurriedly packed up so he could leave. As he began heading for the door the call of his name from his teacher stopped him. Demyx sighed before turning back to his teacher and walking to the desk.
"Demyx," His teacher began, "Your brother contacted me this morning about finding someone to help you with this class."
Demyx just stood there, listening and not speaking because he felt he'd get in trouble. He did notice as he looked around slightly bored that one of his classmates was still present. Demyx glanced at the silver-haired youth in interest before rolling his eyes, noting the boy was ignoring the blonde in favor of a book.
"I asked Zexion here to help you study," The teacher stated, nodding at the silver-haired boy.
Demyx glanced at the boy again, "I really don't need to help..."
The teacher raised an eyebrow, "Your brother and I seem to think differently, now you both have a free period I believe, so get going."
Demyx looked ready to argue but a stern look stopped him and he turned to the door, seeing Zexion had moved at some point and was waiting at the door for him. Demyx grudgingly went to meet the boy, following him out of the room and in the direction of the library. The boy remained silent and didn't even look at Demyx, his attention still glued on his book.
When they reached the library they moved to a corner and Zexion set his stuff down, pulling out his bookmark and closing his book. Demyx threw his bag on the table and plopped in the seat across from Zexion, the silver-haired boy frowning at Demyx's actions. Zexion sat down, and looked at Demyx, as if he was examining the boy.
Demyx just stared back, un-amused and hating that look. Demyx bit back a growl as he watched the silver-haired boy. Demyx hit the table startling the other boy, and receiving a warning from the librarian and a disapproving look from the boy.
"Why do you keep looking at me like that?" Demyx snapped, ignoring the librarian.
Zexion blinked, "Like what?"
"Like I'm some specimen you're trying to figure out."
Zexion raised an eyebrow, "Wow aren't you so full of yourself, I was merely trying to figure out how to help an idiot like you."
"Hey!"
"Be quiet!" The librarian hissed from nearby.
Demyx huffed and stared at Zexion who was still giving him that look. Zexion just started looking through the books, and Demyx joined him grudgingly. He watched as Zexion pointed out the annotations on the side, explaining what things meant, and the little notes before and in between chapters.
They spent hours going over the books, and when they finished and departed, Demyx continued to read them when he got home. Zexion had given him homework to help him study and each sheet he did showed himself new about the story he hadn't realized the last time he read it. To say the least, Demyx's brothers were quiet surprised as they saw their little musician studying.
A few hours of study turned into days as they prepared for the exams. Demyx began looking forward to the study sessions. He unconsciously began worrying about how he looked or trying to impress Zexion, not that it did him much good. The boy hardly seemed to notice him at all, it disappointed Demyx greatly.
That day they sat outside in the courtyard, it being nice, and so that Zexion could ask Demyx questions of the scripts. Demyx sat at the lunch table, Zexion across from him, looking over the books with a carefully trained eye.
Zexion asked him to begin reciting from memory what he could of the Opera and Demyx tried his best. As he got to the part where Maria is singing of her beloved before her marriage he is able to recite it word for word. The scene being one that reminded the blonde of his growing affection for Zexion.
Demyx glanced up as he neared the end and as his eyes met Zexion's he stumbled over the words. Zexion's bright Aqua eyes stared into Demyx's and he felt like they were peering into his very soul. Demyx felt his face heat up, but couldn't look away from the other boy. He finally pulled his gaze away as Zexion stood up, embarrassed with how he had acted.
"I think you're ready for tomorrows test, just get a good night's sleep and have a good breakfast," Zexion stated simply.
"Right...thanks for your help..." Demyx responded, feeling down.
Zexion paused as he glanced back at Demyx, "Once this test is done we'll start on the next one, you still need major improvements."
Demyx's head jolted up as he watched Zexion walk off, his face heating up as he realized what the boy had said. He may have a chance with the guy, he quickly gathered his stuff and headed home, eager to pass the test with flying colors.
~End~
Finally this got done! Jeez Demyx is a butt with these kind of things...
