Hey guys!

SO I FINALLY UPDATED!

I hope none of you guys are too annoyed at me but I updated and I'm feeling so happy right now.

I still don't know where I'm going with this and that's why I haven't updated. I need some ideas on where to go with my plot so if you guys have any then I'm all ears.

I have a few ideas but not many and there isn't really a lot of complexity to them. I need an antagonist, or numerous antagonists so I'd really appreciate any input I can get.

If you haven't checked it out, I've just updated 'Shyness is NOT ALLOWED IN YOUR VOCABULARY ' and my other story 'Another go, this time as witches' if you guys want to read them. I'd recommend them if you like strong Hina fanfics or if you just want something to read to pass the time.

BOREDOM WILL BE THE END OF US ALL!

I've also got some oneshots and I know I'm blabbing but you know, what can you do?

Anyway, I won't leave you guys hanging for a long time I hope so…Enjoy the story!

Kurenai was coming over so they had all agreed to be on best behaviour; it wouldn't do to get into an argument tonight. No one wanted that, especially when they had already been lectured this week by both her and Tsunade. They really didn't have the energy that it took to argue with Kurenai, although they somehow managed to force some whenever she decided it was time for a lecture on how to live their life.

They knew Kurenai only wanted what was best for them. Hell, she had told them just that over a million times, but sometimes what you need and what you want are two very different things. At least that is what society has been telling people for generations. Maybe if the found the Achilles Heel; maybe if they found a weakness in which they could grab a hold of and manipulate, then maybe they wouldn't be living the life they were.

But looking for a weakness, and finding that particular weakness are also two very different things…So for now they would settle for how they were currently living their lives.

Hinata said she was going for a swim and then walked away after promising to be back within the hour. Ino and Tenten followed her lead, deciding to get some training done while Sakura stayed inside and made dinner.

She didn't feel like making anything extravagant so she decided on a simple lasagne for tea. Once she'd prepared everything and put it into the oven, she went up to her bedroom and changed into some comfier clothing. She passed Hinata on the way, who had evidently just gotten out of the water due to the fact she was dripping wet.

"Hey" Hinata said as she saw Sakura.

"Hey" Sakura replied. A long conversation wasn't needed. They'd been living with each other since the day they were born. They had all developed a bond through their powers, and through their friendship.

They were constantly on the same wavelength, knew what each other was thinking the majority of the time without even speaking any words.

Hinata smiled at her and headed towards her bedroom. She got a shower, dressed and then walked out onto her balcony. From there she had the perfect view of the seemingly infinite garden they owned. She expanded her gaze slightly and focused on her lake that she could see in the distance.

How she longed to go for another swim, but she knew she couldn't. Kurenai would be at their house soon and she liked everyone present. There was just something about the water that calmed Hinata down. When she was surrounded by it, she felt invincible. Like she could take on the world.

And then she'd get out of the water; all her worries would suddenly materialise again and she would be reminded of all of the problems in her life. Some would think she had gotten dealt a rather good hand, but Hinata would have to disagree with those people.

Hinata walked back into her room and took a deep breath. Her dolphins were calling to her from downstairs and she told them she would be there soon. It would be better to get her negativity out now, where there was no one to witness her pain, as sappy and cliché as that sounded.

She decided to put on a smile for Kurenai though and headed down to the kitchen to take the dinner Sakura had prepared out of the oven.

It wasn't long after they'd all gotten back inside that Kurenai turned up with a bright smile on her face. "Girls!"

"Hi, Kurenai." Ino answered, slightly suspicious of Kurenai's abnormally cheerful mood. "What's up?" She asked.

Kurenai sat down at the table and looked at each of them before speaking. "I'm just so proud of you four. You really are getting along well with the new boy and I just want to say how happy I am."

"Okay," Tenten said, "we didn't really do anything. Just talked to them and stuff." She told her before bringing her fork to her mouth swallowing a bite of food.

"Exactly." Kurenai stated between a mouthfull. "You actually talked to them, which is more than I can say you've done to the other students. Such promising friendships are brewing and I couldn't be happier for all of you."

Tenten frowned but decided to keep quiet. So they had talked to the boys a few times. All they ever talked about was the project, and Tenten was fine with that. Knowing less meant that there was less chance to actually like the boys, inevitably leading to friendship, which was something Tenten knew they needed to avoid. The only reason she didn't say anything was because she knew it would lead to the same argument that had been going on for years, and she didn't feel the need to deal with anything like that tonight.

Unfortunately, Sakura didn't feel the same need.

"There is no friendship, and there never will be. I'm sorry, Kurenai, but you know we can't get close to anyone. We're destined to spend our lives alone and we're okay with that." She said.

Kurenai shook her head in disbelief. "I don't believe a word you're saying, and I know you don't either."

"We have to believe that." Hinata answered with a hint of desperation in her voice. "If we don't then we'll keep deteriorating until there is nothing left of us."

"With the way things are going, you're on the right track." Kurenai said.

She looked at the girls in front of her and sighed loudly. "We all face obstacles in life. Some bare bigger burdens then others, but there is a way; there must be. Your parents found it and you four can to."

"Our parents had their parents to guide them, and so on. We have no one who knows of the life we live. How are we to live amongst people, form relationships and expect no harm to come? We can't. It's not possible." Hinata told her.

"It is." Kurenai insisted.

Sakura sighed and looked over her half eaten meal. "Can we just drop it for now? We have enough on our plate without adding to it. Our wrists are hurting again and I haven't got a clue what it means this time."

"Okay" Kurenai agreed. She didn't mention the wrists; there was nothing she could do about that matter apart from do what she always did. Pray that everything would turn out right in the end. A cliché happily ever after if you would. Honestly any outcome would be better than the lives these girls were planning on living.

Dinner went fairly smoothly after that and Kurenai left with a promise to visit again soon. She probably thought that the girls didn't notice the engagement ring on her finger, but they did and they were happy for her.

Most likely she didn't mention it to them for the sheer fact that she felt like she was rubbing her love life into their faces. They respected Kurenai for her compassion, but they truly wished her the best in whatever life she lived, despite the miniscule trig of envy they occasionally got when watching how she and Asuma were together.

"She's persistant. I'll give her that." Ino muttered as she shut the door behind Kurenai.

"Perhaps too persistant." Hinata said. "I don't see why she must always insist on bringing up that subject regardless of how many times we shoot it down."

"She's trying her best." Tenten defended. "If I were in her shoes I'd probably do the same."

Sakura shook her head and blew out a large breath of air. "But you're not. None of us are and it's not healthy to dwell on what can't be."

"Hmm" Tenten agreed but didn't think that a real answer would do her thoughts any justice. "Well…It's getting late. I think I'll go for a walk or something."

"Yeah," Hinata said, "I think I'll go for another swim. Relief the stress and all."

Ino and Sakura went outside as well and they all went their separate ways after saying a few brief goodnights.

Sasuke groaned as he slammed the alarm on his bedside table to shut it up. He walked to his wardrobe, pulled on a shirt and some jeans, and then headed downstairs for breakfast. "HEY TEME!" And then Sasuke proceeded to almost have a heart attack.

"Dope? What the hell are you doing here?" He asked in a pained voice. It was too early in the morning to deal with idiots, especially when those idiots went by the name of Naruto.

"I wanted to talk…About Hinata." Naruto said.

Sasuke looked over at the boy he secretly considered a brother and for once saw a serious expression on the blonde's face.

"What about her?" He asked in a cautious tone. Sasuke knew Naruto wasn't one for serious talks, so he was slightly apprehensive of what the blonde had to say.

"I can't get her out of my head." Naruto confessed. "I keep thinking about her voice, her beautiful hair, the way she felt in my arms-"

Naruto was about to continue but he was cut off by Sasuke. "Wait, back up. The way she felt in your arms? She was in your arms? How the hell did that happen?" He asked as he lowered his now fully awake body down onto a chair across from Naruto.

Said boy laughed uneasily before scratching the back of his head. Something he did when he was nervous, Sasuke noted. "Did I say that outloud?" He asked, evidently stalling what was the inevitable in Sasuke's opinion.

Sasuke nodded and gestured for Naruto to continue. "Well, you see, we were both sitting in this huge chair she has," Naruto saw Sasuke's raised eyebrow and decided to elaborate, "I sat beside her and wouldn't move when she told me to. I think she knew I'd just follow her if she moved because she didn't really protest as much as I expected."

"And?"

"And then we worked on the project for a while before I fell asleep. When I woke up I had her in a death grip and she was asleep, so I'm assuming I that I wouldn't let her go and eventually she gave up trying to get out of my grip and fell asleep." Naruto finished with a wistful look on his face and Sasuke thought about mentioning the fact that the dope looked like an idiot.

He scratched that thought; Naruto always looked like an idiot, despite what expression he had on his face. Sasuke looked at Naruto and could tell whatever he felt was more than purely infatuation, although it was definitely also that.

Then he processed what Naruto had said. He'd held Hinata in his arms, they'd fallen asleep together and Naruto had obviously had a 'moment' with Hinata. Knowing this, Sasuke felt slightly jealous of the dope. He wished that Sakura would fall asleep in his arms. He wished that he could wake up beside her and watch her as she slept…

…And then he snapped out of whatever daze he had been in. That was the thing about wishing; all of the faith in the world couldn't make someone like you if they didn't want to.

True, he'd seen Sakura looking at him from time to time, but there was a difference between looking and wanting, longing…Sakura was always so hard to read; he never knew what he was seeing whenever he looked into those bright green eyes.

"Hey, teme?"

"What?"

"Do you think we're getting anywhere with them?" Naruto asked. He didn't need to specify who 'they' were - Sasuke knew. "I mean, they talk to us, but all we every talk about is the project."

Sasuke thought about Naruto's question for a while. "It's a starting point." He finally said. "Everyone has to have a starting point and to be honest I thought it would be harder to get to the point we're at already. If we keep things progressing at this pace then there's no way our plan won't work."

Naruto considered what Sasuke had said and he seemed to relax slightly, he muscles no as tense and the line above his brow no longer furrowed.

Sasuke decided that he'd have a quick breakfast today, seeing as Naruto had used a lot of his time up, so he poured himself a bowl of cereal. After a long debate, he decided to pour Naruto one as well. Normally he'd make the dope get his own, but after the listening to the dope pour his heart out he felt like the least he could do was get the blond some cereal.

They sat in silence for a while after that. For once Naruto didn't feel the need to fill it with ideal chatter either, so Sasuke walked out his front door that morning feeling less annoyed than he thought he would be in Naruto's company.

"Hey, Sasuke?" Naruto asked as they were about to head to Neji's house.

Sasuke turned and raised an eyebrow at Naruto, insinuating that the blond should continue with whatever he wanted to say.

"Can we keep that talk between the two of us?" Naruto scratched his head and once again adopted the nervous demeanour he'd had in Sasuke's house. "It's not that I don't trust Shikamaru and Neji – I do – but I just feel kinda vulnerable wearing my heart on my sleeve, you know?"

The raven haired boy grunted to show he knew where Naruto was coming from, "I won't tell them." Sasuke assured Naruto, the sincerity in his tone hard to miss.

Naruto knew Sasuke wouldn't go back on his word. Despite all of their arguments and insults towards each other, Naruto trusted Sasuke with his live, and vice versa.

"Why did it take you guys so long?" Neji asked as they walked over to where he was waiting. "Even Shikamaru got here before you two."

Naruto shrugged and Sasuke made a none comprehensible sound before getting into the car.

Shikamaru actually looked wide awake for once, which, if they were to admit it, made Sasuke and Naruto feel slightly unnerved. Of course, they would never admit that in their lifetime and so tried their hardest not to ogle Shikamaru throughout the drive.

Eventually Naruto's curiosity got the best of him and he couldn't resist a comment. "You're awake." He stated.

"Yep"

"Like, really awake. Not the half asleep zombie that you usually are."

"First time for everything." Shikamaru replied.

Naruto scrutinised Shikamaru from across the car. "You're acting weird."

Shikamaru turned his head slightly in Naruto's direction and smirked slightly. "You always act weird, but I never complain."

…We wait a moment…"Hey!"

"And finally the idiot registers." Neji muttered from his seat behind the wheel.

Sasuke, who occupied the passenger seat, smirked at Neji's comment, which the other two didn't catch.

Naruto, for all he was worth, couldn't think of something that would offend Shikamaru. He'd call him lazy, but that's never worked before. So, instead of using up precious brain cells trying to think of a response, Naruto simply leaned back in his seat, intent on glaring daggers at Shikamaru for the duration of the journey.

What did you guys think?

Did you like it? Dislike it? Leave me a review; you know we all love a good review.

They make me smile and ultimately just brighten up my day.

Like I said before I've updated my other stories and I would love if you guys took a look at them and let me know what you think.

Like I also said before, I need some ideas for where this story is going. Some people have suggested give the guys some powers and I kind of have an idea for that, but mostly I just need ideas for antagonists and so on and so forth.

I know this one is slightly shorter but I think I've kept you all hanging long enough and I hope this chapter won't be that big a disappointment. It's been a while since I've wrote anything on this story so my writing style may have changed slightly, although if that's the case I hope it has changed for the better and not the other way around.

There wasn't any interaction between the boys and the girls in this chapter, which some of you might be slight sad about, but like I said it has been a while since I've wrote anything and I need to re-read this fanfic again so that I can get a lot of the facts right. To be honest, this chapter didn't really have any important points in it but everything has some sort of significance so just bear with me and I'll try to get you a better one next update.

Thank all of you lovely people who actually take the time to read my stories and who have been patiently waiting my updates. I know what it's like to wait for someone to update and it sometimes can be frustratingly long.

Anyway, thanks again!

See ya later alligators
