The dreaded beep of the alarm tore May from her dreams with a disgruntled groan.

"Oh God, sleep" she complained, rolling on her back away from the mind numbingly annoying drone.

Normally she wasn't too bad with mornings but today was definitely an exception. Why? Because a certain yellow pokemon was determined to wake her every half hour at the slightest rustle of a leaf. She understood that he was scared of being captured but a girl needed sleep.

Slapping her hand against the alarm she glared at nothing ahead of her.

"I wanna sleep" she grumbled as her covers were pulled from her body a chill running through her. Freezing she had a dreaded feeling that her mother was behind her...

"Pikka"

A heavy sigh of relief passed through her dry lips.

"Pikachu, I'm cold."

"Pikka, pi"

"What"

"Pik-"

"You know what, I wouldn't understand anyway" mumbling curses under her breath May forced herself to sit in bed, her arms taking the majority of her weight.

"Pikka" turning to regard the pokemon in hopes it would shed some light on what he wanted she saw he was pointing towards the alarm looking confused.

"That's my alarm" she supplied, thinking that would clear the confusion. Of course it didn't, he just tilted his head softly to further emphasise his puzzlement. "It beeps to wake me up" she explained further, his bemused expression lessening slightly. "You don't have it in your world?" She guessed, receiving a subtle nod.

Sighing she forced herself to her feet trudging to her wardrobe and sifting through her clothes.

"Thought so" was all she mumbled glancing over to Pikachu who'd leapt onto the bed pulling the covers up. Over the weekend he'd seen her straightening out her covers and had taken to doing it himself. "Pikachu, stay here. I've gotta get dressed, I'll bring you some berries before I do" she told him trying to gauge any response. But all she received was a:

"Pikka"

"I'll see you in a minute."

Closing the door behind her Pikachu dropped onto the bed lying back and staring up at the white ceiling. What he wouldn't do to be able to relax in this world. Closing his eyes he tried to picture his mother, but it was an impossible act. How could he picture someone he never saw? He had though the human girl was his mother at first.

He had tried picturing a larger version of himself, but all that succeeded in doing was make him feel nauseous. A large version of himself as his mother just seemed, for lack of a better word, creepy.

Shuddering at the memory he closed his eyes breathing a heavy sigh of tiredness and impatience mingling together.

Downstairs May was grabbing some berries from the open window in the kitchen. Wincing as thorns from her mother's rose bush prickled her wrist. Biting her lips she grabbed a handful of the blue berries she forced herself not to squeeze on the small fruit.

"Bloody berries, why can't you grow somewhere else? Like by the living room couch." She curses a few more times, finally managing to grab onto the largest berries.

Smirking at beating the tree she didn't care that she's broken a few of them. The majority were fine.

Running back up the stairs she quietened down as she reached the top, it was still early and her mother was probably just waking up. Her father had left before dawn, he always did. Why? She didn't know, he refused to tell her what his job was. 'Wait till you're older' he'd always chime. It was like his personal mantra.

Pushing open her bedroom door she stared at Pikachu momentarily. Mildly bemused as to why he was stretched out on his back she didn't try and ask. How would she get the answer?

"Pikachu, I got you some berries. They're a little crushed but they're still good. I gotta go get in the shower and dressed for school. You're coming with me don't forget." She reminded as she handed over the food to his awaiting hand. Seeming to understand he nodded his head, watching as she left the room in a hurry. Only just remembering to close the door.

Climbing out of the shower however long later she stepped back into the room, rubbing a towel through her hair. Blindly walking she relied on her memory of the bedroom's layout to navigate herself towards the bed.

"So, Pikachu, did you enjoy your breakfast?" She asked, just for the sake of sound.

"Pikka" he answered making her smile softly.

"Good" glancing up she could see small dots of blue around his yellow mouth.

"Pikka" as she was about to answer to whatever he was saying another voice cut her off before she started.

"May! Aren't you gone?"

"Max, what're you doing, go back to bed." She shouted back

"No, what're you doing?" He asked pushing the door handle down. It took a few seconds for her to take in what was about to happen. And she threw herself off her bed, slamming the door shut as soon as the wood inched open a few inches. "May! What the hell?! You nearly hit me!" Thinking quickly to try and come up with a lie, she answered hesitantly.

"I'm getting dressed"

"O-oh" Max answered with a stutter. Breathing a silent sigh of relief she stood up slowly.

"C-come back in a w-while Max, I'll be ready soon"

"Good, cos mum said she'd take us to school if you were ready on time."

"I'm always ready on time." She snapped, huffing at the insult.

"Yeah, and I fail all my tests." He replied, and May could see him in her mind's eye rolling his.

"Shut up Max, you're irritating."

"Oh, I'm so hurt" he feigned hurt, his voice full of mocking. Ragging the door open she glared down at her brother, noting that he had his eyes screwed shut.

"Don't be a child Max, I'm dressed. Besides, you're irritating. You love to annoy me."

"Of course I do." He answered honestly cracking his eye open slightly.

Thankfully for May his eyes were focused solely on her face, unfortunately though, they strayed inside the bedroom. Landing on her bed, which still seated the pokemon.

"Where'd you get the toy May?" He asked, tilting his head in confusion as he stared at the apparent stuffed animal. Snapping her head around, she caught sight of Pikachu frozen in his spot.

"Uh, uh?" She tried

"Ash got it for you didn't he?" He asked, smirking, confident he was right.

"Uh, uh...yeah" she answered weakly, glad Pikachu wasn't moving, he seemed to be smart enough to understand that movement of any kind would cause a lot of screaming and possibly some motionless bodies on the floor.

"Aw, did he take you on a date?" He mocked, receiving a glare from the girl.

"Shut up Max, I'm not the one taking kids on dates" a cruel smirk plastered itself to her face at seeing the horror cross his face.

"We're just friends!" He screeched, his face reddening to the point where he resembled a tomato.

"Of course Max, anyway, come back later I've got to finish getting ready." Closing the door she breathed a heavy sigh of relief. "Thank God" she breathed slouching against the wooden door. "I love you right now" she told Pikachu who shook himself out of his petrified state.

"Pikka" he answered pushing off from the bed and wandering around the room. "Pikachu?" He asked pointing towards the closed window

"What? Do you want some fresh air?" He nodded standing beneath the closed window. Sighing she cracked the window open slightly, letting the early morning breeze waft in.

Pikachu dropped to the floor, breathing in the mildly warm air. Turning her head from the pokemon she finished getting herself ready. Ignoring the pokemon's small sounds of enjoyment. How clean air could do that was beyond her.

Keeping an eye on her bag, settled by her bed, she tried to decide how much she'd have to empty it to accommodate him.

Grabbing it she tipped it upside down, pouring everything out and letting them land on the covers.

"I don't need math, English, I need science. Pikachu, come over here" she called, motioning the small creature over. "Here, get in the bag. I need to try and fit things around you." He tilted his head in confusion staring at the girl bemused as to what she was suggesting.

"Pikka?"

"I'm not going to trap you or anything, just climb in and I'll pack my things around you." He shook his head, staring at May as though she's grown a second head.

"Pikachu?" He questioned, shaking his head all the same.

"Come on, I'm not going to hurt you. I promise." Pushing himself up he waddled over, still staring at her perplexed. Reaching down May lifted the baby, placing him on the bed. "Here" widening the bag open she lowered it for him to climb in. Staring up at May he climbed inside sitting on the material keeping his arms in. More than a little confused as to what was happening.

Not saying anything she started to place the few things she'd need in her bag, resting her book behind his back as a makeshift chair back.

"If I place food in here are you going to eat it?" She asked, just registering that she'd have to eat at school. He nodded. "Ok, I'm going to have to beg for some dinner money." Running a hand through her hair she turned towards the door, hearing footsteps outside.

"Max?!"

"No, it's mum"

"Oh, mum, I need dinner money"

"I thought you were having a few pieces of fruit?"

"Yeah that too" turning to Pikachu she whispered "that's for you."

"Honestly May, what happened to you eating healthy?"

"I'm still doing that mum"

"You're not if you're having two dinners." Cursing under her breath she covered Pikachu with her pyjama shirt, pulling open the door just enough to be visible.

"Mum, honestly, I'm not having a big dinner. Besides today I'm going to be walking in the woods with Ash. I need a big dinner."

"You're spending a lot of time with Ash lately, you're not keeping something from me are you?"

"No mum!" She gasped, shocked that she'd even imply that.

"Alright, alright, don't get defensive. It just makes you look like you're hiding something."

"Mum, stop it. Can I just have some money for dinner?"

"I'll give you five pounds." She agreed, walking off a smirk playing on her lips.

"You are so lucky I'm bringing you fruit" she whispered closing the door. Rolling her eyes as her shirt popped up more one of Pikachu's black tipped ears poked out.

"Pikka"

"Don't, pikka me. I'm bringing you food and because of you my mum thinks I'm doing a fad diet. I had to lie to her and tell her I wanted to be healthier. I haven't eaten chocolate for two days." The small yellow thing didn't look the least bit bothered by that. "You don't understand what that's like. Try not eating for two days"

He still looked more bothered by sitting in a bag with a shirt on his head. Pulling the shirt from his head she dropped it onto the bed. Stuffing the rest of her school equipment into her bag she flipped the bag lid, lifting the heavy thing and swinging it as softly as she could around her shoulder.

She may have been annoyed but she wasn't about to hurt him.

"Come on then. Let's go to school. And no sound in the car. I'm not dealing with Max and mum together."
