Somehow Clara had fallen asleep. She was able to get a good three hours before she was woken by the sound of smashing glass. Clara sat up quickly and took off down the stairs. "Damn." She heard Sam swear.
"What happened!" Clara came around the corner out of breath and her fists up.
"Wooh!" Sam said ducking one of her punches. He could tell she wasn't fully awake yet. Clara had thrown a punch and she didn't even know why. "Calm down." He threw his hands up with a laugh. "Just me." he said.
"Sam?" She sighed. "What the hell are you doing?" She asked rubbing her face.
"I was trying to make coffee. I dropped a mug and you ran in ready for a fight." he laughed as he bent over to pick up some of the glass.
"Oh... sorry." She sighed. "You know you shouldn't be moving around to much." She said as she started to help him. "Your stitches won't stay." She said.
"I think I'll be fine." Sam rolled his eyes. "Did you get any sleep last night?" Sam asked as he threw his handful of glass away.
"Yeah I got some sleep." Clara shrugged as she did the same.
"Did Dean come back at all?" Sam asked.
"Yeah he did. The sun was just coming up but at least he got back here in one piece. Your brother is smart but man can he be dumb." Clara shook her head.
"And why is that?" Dean's voice came from behind Clara and she turned not expecting him to be there.
"Well for starters you storm out in the middle of the night and then you drove back here drunk." She sighed.
"Yeah don't you have somewhere to be?" Dean asked walking past her and grabbing a beer from the fridge.
"What?" Clara asked. Why was he so rude all of a sudden. "Don't you think you've had enough?" Clara sighed. He was already drunk he didn't need anymore.
"I said don't you have somewhere to be?" He asked.
"Am I supposed to be somewhere?" Clara asked looking at Sam who just sighed with a shrug. "And don't you think it's a little early for that?" She pointed at the beer he had started to drink quickly.
"Well not that I should have to explain myself to you... but I figure the world is ending why not enjoy life." Dean shrugged as he leaned on the counter.
"What has gotten into you?" She asked. "Why are you so... bitter?" She asked.
"I'm not bitter. I just can't think of a reason you are still here. I mean last night you couldn't wait to leave." He smiled rudely at her.
"What are you talking about?" Clara asked crossing her arms over her chest.
"Well you seemed more then happy to ditch Sam and me for Special Agent Derek Morgan." Dean's attitude got very cocky. Like he was implying something.
"You were listening to my conversation?" Clara asked quickly getting very irritated with Dean's attitude.
"Oh yeah I heard it all." Dean said rolling his eyes. "I'm sure he really misses you." Dean said taking another drink.
"He was talking about everyone back at the BAU." Clara tried to keep her cool. "It's Penelope's birthday in a few days and he just said it would mean a lot to her and the rest of the team if I went and seen them." Clara said.
"Oh really?" Dean laughed. "How convenient. You know I knew you were a good liar I just didn't think you would lie to us... or me for that matter." Dean rolled his eyes as he started to walk out of the kitchen.
"You think I'm lying?" Clara laughed. She looked over to Sam who just shook his head and tried to go back to what he was doing. "And why on earth would I lie about that?" She asked following Dean into the living room where he picked up a bottle of scotch.
"I don't know. Maybe so you and Derek could spend sometime together without anyone interrupting you." Dean didn't even look at Clara. To be honest he was still a bit drunk and he started drinking again. His continuous was telling him to shut up but he just kept running his big mouth.
"What the hell are you talking about?" Clara was so confused. "Wait..." She paused. "Are you suggesting that Derek and I... are having an affair?" She asked with a little laugh. When Dean said nothing she sighed. "Oh my god your serious." She shook her head.
Dean could see it. The way she looked at him. She was beyond hurt not. She just looked at him for a minute and looked away. He watched her pace the room for a minute as her anger boiled over. She stopped over at the table and shook her head.
"I'm going to give you one chance, and one chance only to take that back." She shook her head.
"Or what? You'll storm out? Well it wouldn't be the first time would it?" Dean laughed. He already knew he would be kicking himself for this later. He really needed to stop drinking. Clara turned around quickly with big angry eyes.
"You can be a real jerk you." She sighed.
"Yeah and you can be a very good liar but not this time." Dean just kept poking.
"And when do you suggest I had this affair with Derek?" Clara asked putting her hands on her hips which meant she was so pissed. Dean rolled his eyes trying to walk away. "No seriously? Was it between the time we were fighting off those witnesses? Or during the two weeks I spent captive in the Reapers basement?" Clara asked raising her eyebrows with a angry smile. "Or you know your right we were sleeping together a few weeks ago when Alistair had you pinned to a wall! And while you were in the hospital half dead.. again, I left your side to be with him!" She nodded after she finished yelling.
"You do seem to have a lot of free time." Dean added.
"oh.. my.. god." Clara said in the middle of a breath rushing her hands through her hair. She couldn't believe what she was hearing. In the kitchen Sam couldn't believe what he was hearing.
"And you know, it probably started while Sam and I were on the road."
"Stop it." Clara warned. She knew Dean was having a hard time dealing with everything that was going on but if he continued she wouldn't be able to be around him.
"No." Dean shook his head. "I bet it happened by accident the first time. You were working late one night. I know damn well how you and those other agents put in long hours."
"Stop." Clara shook her head.
"But after you started you couldn't stop. But then I went to hell and you needed to get away." He said in a mocking tone.
"Come on Dean." Sam sighed in the kitchen. Sam knew what he was doing. He was pushing her away like he did to anyone who got just a bit to close. He had good reason to but not like this. Not to Clara. He was begging Dean to just stop now.
"And when I got back you thought you could have the best of both worlds right?" he laughed taking another drink. "Spend some time with me then run back to him. The only reason you went after the damn Reaper was because you thought he was going to hurt your precious boyfriend!" Dean raised his voice and watched as Clara didn't even move. She was barely blinking. Dean started to laugh. "I bet you love him." he said narrowing his eyes and then he heard her gasp quietly as her eyes started to get glossy.
Clara had no idea what to say to that. Dean was way over the line and she knew he had no proof. She even thought he was just trying to get rid of her. She just stared at him for a minute. Dean didn't wipe that stupid smirk off his face and Clara was pissed. So she did what she thought would hurt Dean the most. Seeing as he wanted to play that game.
Dean watched as Clara slowly walked up to him and just smiled. He knew she was thinking and he was ready for the punch he knew she was going to throw. He took a deep breath and before he needed to hold it he felt her take the bottle of scotch from him. Then she quickly headed for the door.
Sam could hear nothing but once Clara walked past the kitchen and headed for the door Sam stepped out to see what Clara was gonna do. Dean followed her once she reached the door. He stood just outside and when she stopped in the yard and looked around he began to worry.
Clara was looking around for the one thing Dean always cared for the most. His baby. She smiled when she saw the Impala just sitting off to the side, and parked oddly. Dean was drunk when he parked so she rushed over quickly.
"What are you doing?" Dean called out as he tried to stop her. "Clara." He ordered.
Clara smiled as she took a good hold of the bottle. She took a deep breath knowing what she was about to do was kind of wrong but she was so mad her judgment was clouded. She could hear Dean calling but she ignored him. She pulled her arm back as she got near the car. And with one strong throw she sent that bottle of scotch through the damn windshield.
The glass shattered and the bottle went through a hole. The glass stayed in tacked but there was a very large hole in the middle. She took a few short breaths and walked backwards a bit just looking at her work. She already felt guilty but she didn't care. She turned around and saw the pure rage in Dean's face.
She was just a few feet from him but she saw how much he hated her in that moment. She smiled and started walking toward him. She could see Sam in the door way with his mouth open and shock in his eyes. As she got closer to Dean he reached out for her arm but she pulled it away quickly.
"I'm sorry.. was that uncalled for?" She asked in a sweet tone pointing to his baby. The tone of her voice made Dean see very clear that the only thing that was uncalled for was his behaviour. She shook her head at him and walked back into the house.
Clara rushed past Sam and headed upstairs to grab her things. She needed to leave, now. She threw what little clothes she had into her bag and she could hear the footsteps coming up the stairs. "Dean stop." Sam ordered from the bottom of the stairs. Clara felt bad he was always left on the outside or middle. She sighed as she heard both them come up the stairs. "Dean seriously. What has gotten in to you."
"Get off of me Sam!" Dean demanded. Clara heard a bit fo struggle and knew Dean had pushed Sam against the wall next to her door. The picture frames on the walls almost fell off the hinges. Clara turned to grab the last of her stuff and when she turned Dean was standing in the doorway. He looked angry as all hell. "What the hell!" He yelled at Clara. She ignored him. "What is the matter with you! Who throws a perfectly good bottle of scotch through someone's windshield! Are you insane!" He yelled walking in quickly.
Clara could see him getting closer and she grabbed her bag and headed for the door trying to avoid Dean. She didn't even look at him. She tried to get around him but he grabbed her arm and pulled her back and she took a few steps back with an annoyed sighed. Again she tried to walk around him and Dean just pushed her back again.
"You can't just leave." He laughed. "We have work to do and you have a windshield to fix." He shook his head. Clara looked at him and his eyes were red and he was very unsteady. She had never seen Dean so drunk. Clara shook her head and walked around him but he grabbed her arm but wouldn't let go this time.
"Let go." Clara ordered. His grip only getting tighter. Dean had never been abusive and Clara knew he wouldn't hit her unless she asked for it but right now she could see how angry he was. She took a deep breath and tried pulling away.
"Hey!" Sam finally yelled getting Dean to let go and turn his way. Dean didn't even have a chance to defend himself. Sam punched his brother and he fell back out cold. Clara just stared at Sam who shook his hand in pain. "Jerk." He shook his head. "Are you okay?" he looked to Clara and could see the pain and anger in her big eyes.
"Yes." she nodded as she looked down at Dean on the floor.
"You should get going." Sam sighed reaching out for Clara's hand.
"You don't got a speech either?" She asked and Sam shook his head.
"I heard everything... I understand." he smiled and Clara took Sam's and he walked her down the stairs. "Bobby will understand too." Sam smiled at her when they got to the door. "You go, be with your friends. They sure as hell deserve to see you." Sam sighed and Clara felt so guilty.
"What about-"
"Don't worry about it." Sam stopped her. "He'll be pissed but he'll have to deal with it when he comes to." Sam shook his head again. "Tell Penelope I say hi." Sam winked as he pulled Clara into a hug. That's when Clara's eyes started to sting. Sam was so selfless sometimes and it was times like this that made Clara see how much she meant to him. She squeezed him tightly and placed a soft kiss on his cheek.
"You be careful okay?" She asked tapping the side of his face lightly with her hand.
"Duh." Sam laughed a bit.
"Bye Sammy." She sighed.
"Bye." Sam sighed as well as he watched his friend get in her car and take off. The dirt flying everywhere made him realize it was going to be a while before she came back. He shut the door slowly and walked into the living room to find Bobby sitting at his desk with a drink in his hand. "Bobby..." Sam started.
"I heard." Bobby sighed. "She'll be back." Bobby nodded toward Sam.
"You think?" Sam asked.
"I don't know... just seems like something to say." Bobby shrugged. "When Dean comes to you guys up for a job?"
"Yeah I bet that will set him straight... killing something."
Clara's drive back to Virginia was quiet and painful. She tried not to cry but the things Dean had said made her feel awful. How could he not trust her? He was obviously very drunk but still that was no excuse for all that. Sure Clara may have over reacted by breaking Baby's windshield but she was mad.
When Clara finally got back she wondered if her apartment was still around. She had sent a few checks to the landlord to keep it open for her and she hoped he did. When she pulled up and walked up the stairs she smiled when her key still worked. As she walked in it was left exactly how she left it... trashed.
She hadn't really been back here since Dean had died and there was broken glass and wood everywhere. She sighed throwing her bag into her room and decided to clean everything up. She spent the rest of the day sweeping, moping, and just cleaning everything.
It had taken her 20 hours to get back here and another 5 to clean everything. The sun had started to raise and Penelope's birthday was tomorrow. Clara sighed and tried to get some sleep. Laying in that bed made her think about all the nights she would come home and find one of the boys sitting on the couch waiting for her. She tossed and turned and every time she turned to find an empty side of the bed it only made her mad.
Clara only managed a few hours of sleep before she sat up and caught a glimpse of herself in the mirror. "Jesus." She said. She barely recognized herself. Her hair was a mess and an awful black and brown mess, her eyes were red and puffy, and she looked dead. First thing Clara had to do before she let her friends see her was fix herself.
She found a hair dresser that would fix the mess she had on her head. After about two hours she looked normal again. Her hair was now a light brown and sat just below her shoulders. She got some food inter her stomach and managed to get some more sleep before her phone started ringing.
She was half asleep when she answered hit. "Yeah?" She asked in a groggy tone.
"You in town yet?" Derek's voice made Clara sigh.
"Yeah for about a day now." Clara rubbed her face and sat up. "Why what's up?"
"Nothing I just called to make sure you were alright." He said.
"Why wouldn't I be?" She asked as she dragged herself out of bed.
"I don't know." Derek sighed. "Look we are landing in like an hour and then I'm taking Garcia out for dinner everyone is gonna be at her place around 8, she has no idea." Derek sounded happy.
"Great. I'll see you later then." She smiled pushing her hair out of her face as Clara headed to the kitchen to put a pot of coffee on. Once Derek hung up Clara still held her phone in her hands. She wondered if she should call Sam or Bobby. But she decided to just get some space from them, especially Dean.
So Clara went on with her day and when night slowly fell she started to get ready. She decided this would be one of the days she could dress up. She knew Penelope would think it was sweet. So Clara found a dark blue dress in the back of her closet and she pulled it on. She loosely curled her hair and added some make up. It was almost 7:30 and Clara sighed at her reflection. She didn't look like the hunter she had worked so hard to become. She looked just like everyone one else. Then she saw her arm. There were small bruises from Dean's grip just appearing and it was very clear it was a hand. She shrugged and just decided to roll with what she had. Not like it was a big deal anyways. At least that's how she was going to treat this. The pieces of her heart breaking every time she thought about what Dean said, she chose to ignore and push away.
Clara came to the door and could hear people talking. She was guessing Derek hadn't told anyone she as coming so she took a deep breath. She slowly reached out and knocked lightly. "Who is it!" Clara smiled at the sound of JJ's voice.
"Well it's not Garcia..." Clara sighed and everyone got quiet again.
"What?" She heard a few voices asked.
"Come on you guys don't make me stand out here alone." She knocked again.
Clara did not have to wait long before the door swung open. She was greeted with many surprised faces. JJ was who she saw first. "oh my god!" She nearly screamed as she jumped and pulled Clara inside and slammed the door. "Clara!" JJ quickly hugged Clara.
"Hi." Clara said as she looked around.
"What are you doing here?" Reid came forward quickly and hugged Clara.
"Well um... Derek he said..." Clara looked at everyone as they smiled at her. "I missed you guys." She said feeling her eyes burn again. She took a deep breath and when she looked over at Hocth she nearly started to cry. He was actually smiling!
"Penelope is gonna freak." JJ smiled.
"Yeah speaking of which... why aren't you all out with her?" Clara asked as they all seemed to form a little circle around her. She felt weird that it was Penelope's birthday and they were all so focused on her. Then everyone was quiet.
"Morgan just thought it would be easier this way..." Reid said as everyone looked down.
"Wow." Clara smiled. "I've been here five seconds and your already lying." She laughed taking a glass of wine Rossi had handed her. "Seriously what is going on?" She asked.
"We should ask you that." JJ said and Clara sighed.
"I know... I'm so sorry... I meant to come back but I just..."
"Had things to take care of." Reid sighed with a shake of the head. "And yet you won't tell us." He pointed out.
"Oh I know you are all so mad and trust me I deserve it but come on... I'm here right?" She asked with a sigh. "I promise I'll tell you all about why I had to leave but can we just focus on Penelope first?" Clara asked.
"I just can't believe it." JJ smiled. "She may scream... you know she hasn't stopped talking about you for like ever."
"Me? I've only been gone for like two months..." Clara said.
"Well two months is a long time for her." JJ said. "Plus when you left she wouldn't stop talking about Sam." JJ rolled her eyes.
"Really?" Clara couldn't help but laugh.
"Yeah you know she actually-" JJ was cut of by the sound of laughter from the hall. "Shh." She ordered everyone as she headed to the front of the room. Clara smiled and before she moved she found herself in the back next to Hotch who was looking at her.
"what?" Clara whispered with a small smile as she took a drink of her wine.
"Nothing. Just good you're here." He smiled. "But we need to talk after." He said.
"Uh oh am I in trouble already?" She asked nudging him a bit.
The door opened quickly and Penelope jumped when everyone yelled surprise. She had a big smile on her face as she went around to hug everyone. The first think Clara noticed when she walked in that Morgan quickly let go of her hand and threw his hands in his pockets. Was he really holding Garcia's hand? A small smile creeped on her face when Clara saw it.
Clara could see that Penelope was slowly getting close and not yet noticed her. Clara quickly downed all she had in her wine glass and straighten her back. "And you'll never guess who I found." Derek said and Penelope turned her back from everyone and looked at Morgan. He smiled down at her and Clara assumed he was talking about her. She took a few steps forward and put on her best smile. "And trust me when I say it was a pain in the ass to get her here." Derek smiled at Clara from in front of Penelope.
My heart was pounding as I saw teh smile Derek flashed me. "Oh come on Derek... I ain't that hard to get." I spoke up and Penelope turned so fast. It was like she recognized my voice within seconds. The pure shock on her face only made me smile. "Hi." I said.
"Oh my god! Clara!" Penelope almost screamed as she rushed toward me and hugged me tightly for a while. The team laughed and some of the other guests just seemed confused. I chose to ignore everyone but Garcia. "What are you doing here!"
"Well come on! It's your birthday. I had to be here." I smiled and I could see the tears in her eyes. "Oh don't do that. Cause if you cry then I'll cry, then Spencer will and we won't ever stop." Clara laughed.
"Hey." Spencer laughed.
"You know it's true." I winked over at him and he just smiled. "Oh it's so good to see you." I smiled at Penelope who hugged me again.
Most of the night was spent catching up with most of the team. I asked Hotch how Haley and Jack were and he said that Jack was the smartest in his class. I asked JJ how Henry and Will were and she went on and on about them for a good two hours. I asked Rossi about any new wives he could have acquired and he laughed at me. Spencer filled me in on literally every book he had read since I left. Morgan told me about cases they worked and every now and again when Penelope wasn't around I would catch him looking for her. And Penelope went one for a good three hours about everything in her life.
I barely spoke all night and I was fine with it. I wanted to hear about everything I had missed and it made me feel normal again for a night. My glass of wine was never empty thanks to Rossi and all in all it was a really good night. It made me forget about everything that was going on and what had just happened. I had felt my phone go off a few times but I kept it on silent and didn't even look at it.
As the night slowly came to an end and people started to go home I had been caught up on everyone except I knew there was something someone wasn't telling me. I wanted to go talk to Penelope but instead I felt Aaron's hand on my shoulder.
"Outside." He said and I sighed. He said goodbye to everyone and when I went to follow him Penelope almost threw a fit.
"Wait Clara come on you can't leave yet."
"Don't worry I'll be right back. Hey could you fill this up for me?" I asked Morgan and handed him my glass. I hadn't been able to hold much of a conversation with him all night. I let him talk but I could barley look at him. Every time I did it made me feel so guilty. I sighed when I noticed Hotch was going all the way outside. "Alright what did I do now?" I asked as I tried to adjust to the chilly air.
"Why are you here?" he asked with a sigh. I just looked at him confused. "We both know there is a better place you should be." He said.
"What are you talking about?" I asked.
"Oh come on. I may be retired but I'm still in the loop when it comes to Hunters." He shook his head.
"Hotch I really don't wanna talk about that..." I sighed.
"Clara I spoke to Bobby. He told me everything you and the Winchesters have been battling. The whole apocalypse..." Aaron asked. "Unless you stopped it?"
"No.. sorry." Clara shrugged. "It's a bit more complicated then that. It's not like there is just a button switching the end of times off. There are seals, angels, and so many demons." Clara rubbed her head and ran a hand through her hair. "Like I've never seen so many demons in my life..." She sighed.
"So this is really happening then..." Hotch sighed. "The more seals broken the closer we are to the world just being at it's end?" He shook his head.
"Yes but don't worry.. the boys are doing what they can to stop it. And they will I guarantee it." I said trying to reassure him.
"and yet the best demon hunter this generation has to offer is here pretending like she is perfectly fine when her mind is so preoccupied." Aaron shook his head and for the first time I saw something I thought I never would. SSA Hotchner looked concerned and worried about me.
"You think I'm the best?" I laughed and he rolled his eyes. "No seriously it's gonna be okay. You shouldn't worry about it. Plus why are you talking to Bobby! You have a son stay away from hunters." I poked his shoulder and he shook his head. "Aaron don't worry about it okay. Sam and Dean have it all handled." I sighed and he just looked down at me.
"Fine." He sighed. "But when you get your mind right and your back to saving the earth and you need anything you call. You got it?" Hotch said.
"Really?" I asked with a sad smile.
"Yes." Hotch nodded as he put a hand on my shoulder. "You really should get back." He smiled.
"Yeah." I sighed trying not to look at him. Then Aaron surprised me again he actually reached out and hugged me. It was a quick one and then he was gone but it still felt nice.
I stood outside for a little it just trying to get my head right. I was out there for so long that everyone else had started to leave. I said goodbye to Reid, JJ and Rossi saying I would see them again but who knows if that was true. They all looked so happy and it made me happy for about ten minutes before I heard Morgan's voice.
"Hey Pen wants you to come back up." He said from the door. I sighed and turned his way.
"I'm coming." I fake smiled and we both headed up the stairs quietly.
"Alright I want the whole story and don't even think about skipping anything!" Penelope said as soon as I walked back into her apartment. She handed me a very full glass of wine and made me sit on a stool in the kitchen while her and Derek stood on the other side of the counter looking at me.
"What are you talking about?" I asked taking a drink.
"Oh you know what I'm talking about! I never got the chance to ask you how you and Dean ended up before you took off." Penelope winked and I shifted in my spot quickly looking down.
I cleared my throat. "How about we talk about you two." I said looking up at them.
"What about us?" Penelope asked.
I laughed a bit taking a drink and waited for them both to start taking a drink. "How long you been sleeping together?"
