Dean hadn't uttered a word to Sam since they left the airport. One minute they were almost dragged into a glowing hole, then they were on a plane flying over the town they just escaped. No answers came to mind and Dean had nothing to say. He just focused on driving. He was fighting with every fibre of his being not to think about what had just happened.
"Dean..." Sam finally spoke up.
"Don't say anything." Dean warned not even looking over to his side.
Sam wanted so bad to say he was sorry but, no amount of apologies would fix what he had broken. He was quiet for hours just replaying everything in his mind. "Please I.."
"Sam." Dean cut him off with a short bark. "Just don't." He sighed still staring at the dark highway. The more Sam pushed the more angry Dean got. He didn't want to be mad at Sam, and the truth is he was more mad at everything else than his brother but it didn't seem to matter.
Dean had just watched the light in Clara's eyes go out. He did nothing to stop her from dying and he should have protected her better. In all sense there was nothing he could do. Her arms were sliced and blood was pouring out, Sam at exercised Lilith from her, and he hadn't stopped. Sam had drained Clara of her entire life force. She wasn't going to heal herself, there was no way she could. Dean kept hoping it would be like the last time where Cas would show up and she would be fine but it wasn't.
Her eyes had closed, her heart had stopped and there was no way she was getting her breath back. The way she lay on the ground, she just looked so broken. Dean took a deep breath as he gripped the steering wheel tightly to stop him from thinking about it. He couldn't. They had bigger problems to deal with and his heart was already broken, no need to dwell on it. Clara was dead, she wasn't coming back to him and Sam had betrayed him.
This is a short chapter but it's meant to be like a bridge between the characters. Just to kind of illustrate how hurt Dean is and how guilty Sam is. Please tell me what you think should happen I am kind of running out of ideas for now but later on I have so many! So please review! :)
